Jump rope. It was a commonly used aerobic exercise, and yet Riley was not a fan of it. It had something to do with certain parts of the female anatomy being uncooperative during a jump.. not to mention she wasn't wearing her sports bra during Floresctival. Ah well. She jumped, regardless - though there wasn't much oomph to it.

Just as Cain was beginning to grow confident in his ability, that he might just win this challenge... The rope came up in an arch above him, but he leapt too soon, and as his foot came down, he got tangled in the rope and fell forward.

CRASH!

"... Oww..." Groan.

Epic fail was epic.

Still, the more she jumped, the more she began to get into the rhythm of the movement. Exercise was exercise, after all. Still, even as she began jumping faster, she was wary to make sure no one was watching too fervently. Teenagers could be so .. hormonal, at times.

Was it really a surprise that Riley was getting good at this? It was just another exercise, after all - and she had the stamina to keep herself going without really having to think about it for several hours. Thankfully, she doubted this would go on that long, but neither would she be tripping up anytime soon.

Though, her dress was not very conducive to the quick flicks of the rope..

And sure enough, Rileys dress would be her downfall. It got caught on the rope, and stopped it from turning. She didn't seem too put out, simply because it meant the game was over, and she wouldn't have to bounce anymore. Her shoulders and back were starting to ache..

Have you ever heard of love at first sight? That's what had happened to Rhythm. He had been minding his own business, skulking at the edge of the festival... thing, hoping to grab something to eat or possibly find someone to play with, and he'd seen HIM. For a long moment he had just stood there, staring at the boil with the friendly grin and the guitar, wishing that he could get closer.

Then he realized it was easy to get closer. He just had to follow the boil--and follow and follow until the boil had no other choice but to keep him! Which was what Rhythm was doing right now. Or he had been. The boil of his dreams had raced off, and the hazmutt had planned on following him when he saw the pit of dirt. There were shiny things in that pit, he could almost see some of them peeking through. Maybe if he got a shiny thing for the boil, the boil would love him back!

Pretending that he actually belonged to someone (well, he was working on it!! Give a mutt a break!) he jumped into the box of dull dirt and started digging as fast and as deep as he could. His love and instantaneous devotion overwhelming--or it would have been if the boil in question even had a clue.

Israfel didn't really own a dog. Actually he was sure he was but there was a bit of a snag.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
He couldn't see the dog. Now Israfel had tried a few things. Coloring fur. Bells. Feeding it the glowing stuff they served as supposed 'Hell-O'. Nothing made his dog show up. The hardest part was when you had an invisible dog, and they got out with other invisible dogs...well things go crazy. "Is this your dog?" "Well I dunno, mine is names so-and so." "Did your invisible dog just leave an invisible turd on my lawn?" "Possibly, but I can't see anything." "Did I just step in an invisible turd?" "Nope, definitely not my invisible dog...."

Messy. And invisible.

Still, the leash helped but soon enough, the pooch that could not be seen vanished from Israfel's view. His face turned to a mask of horror as his eyes scanned from the only thing that might give his pup away, the leash.Running around the gym like a head less bird, (so undignified), Israfel found one end of the leash outside a hole. Looking at the hole it was deep, and every so often, a cloud of dirt would come up. Was..Did his dog-
"....Boy? Is that you?" A bark from the hole and an echo. In a cloud of dirt spewing up came the leash and possibly his minipet. Reaching out, something wet his his hand and licked it. The thump thump thump of a tail wagging. Yup. His dog. Blue eyes narrowed as Israfel let out a heavy sigh. ".......I wonder if you like scaring me."

The dog just kept wagging it's tail, a small thumping on the ground while kicking up tiny puffs of earth.

Ah my jack! ah my jack, YAY!

The little florejox's short tail went on highspeed, meaning his whole body waggled in excitement. Ruska flailed and went on a mini rampage of happiness in the gym, digging through everything he could to get the best things he could find.

There was this! With it's leather and it's holes! Oh my it was so cool!

But this! With it's fuzziness and exposed bones!

AH MY JACK! THIS! THIS WAS IT!

He tackled his prize and trotted off to Rikki, proud of what he'd caught for his favoritest grim reaper.

The festival had been a great place for Poke to find out more about minipets and how to take care of them, not to mention to find herself some of her own. It was hard not to; she only had to take a few steps, and chances are she would find a minipet or someplace offering a chance to win some. The scarfari was also a great place to catch a few.

For now though, her latest addiction had been a small tuff of fluff which had recently grown into a foxfire. It was a small minipet, able to sit in her hand comfortably and look adorable in the process. If she wasn’t mistaken, she was sure she had seen something similar at the haunted house, except this one didn’t want to kill her with cuteness.

Still, she had to be careful with it since it wasn’t fully grown, and prone to run away when she wasn’t looking. But it was a lot of fun to play with. When she wasn’t fighting pink pets with table flipping abilities, breaking her bones by punching rock tables, or getting pelted with fish, she took time in playing with the small foxfire. Right now she was talking the critter for a walk, trying not to giggle at watching the thing trying to keep up.

The dragon ghoul then found herself walking towards Sleuth’s gym, and as she looked over she noticed there were a few others with their own dog minis playing various games. It seemed the gym leader’s minipet was holding a few events for the other minipets to have fun at.

As she stood there watching them, she noticed her own foxfire pup scamper in front of her, nearly tripping over its own feet in it’s eagerness to run over to the game area

“I guess you wanna play, huh?” Poke said out loud with a smirk, and quickly followed the pet before it could get hurt. “Ahh, careful!” she called out when she thought it was going to go and play with the Sleuth’s hound, but it turned away and went over to a large patch of dirt and began to dig furiously. Squatting next to her foxfire, she watched it continue to dig away, it’s little paws scratching at the earth in a blade of white, and eventually begin to uncover another white object.

“Aha!, looks like you found yourself a bone” she said while her pet began to try and pull it out of the ground. It was doing it’s best to move the object, growling and yipping but it didn’t seem to want to budge. The foxfire then sat on the ground, looking up at poke with pleading eyes. It was obvious what he wanted her to do.

Okay, okay….” She leaned over and with a quick pull, yanked the bone out of the earth. “Here you go” she handed the bone over, and the minipet was happy again barking and wagging its tail at its newfound prize. But it didn’t stop there; pretty soon the foxfire was sniffing at the ground, and he ran off to find himself something else, with poke tagging along to keep watch.
Wondering what he had found this time, she hurried up to find him digging at another patch of dirt, and waited until he had finished and pulled out some sort of minipet treat. The foxfire didn’t waste time though, gobbling it up and then running off to find some more.

Pretty soon, the foxfire had succeeded in digging up 3 more holes, each containing either a treat or another bone to play with. After his third hole, the minipet seemed to grow tired. It yawned, walking back over to poke and settled down in front of her for a nap.

“Well, at least you had fun” It had been fun for her too, watching it run around the area and dig up holes, looking adorable as it did.

The Woehound was feeling rather downtrodden, lumbering in slowly as he raised his head to gaze around in a patient manner.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

The Woehound saw Hound, his back end moving slowly until his whole tail was wagging, and everything in his manner just seemed so... slow.

Marosa wasn't that far behind him, giving a slight grin at his dog and then a pat on the head, fingers digging in and giving the Woehound a light head massage.

The Woehound gave a doggy grin to Hound, sitting down for a moment and hind leg tapping the ground until Marosa stopped. He glanced over to the deep box of dirt and sand, standing up and padding over to it at his own pace before shaking his fur out and then deciding to dig in just to see what he could find. He got about chest deep before giving a deep bark, pulling out what looked to be an old rag-doll of someone's, an old toy or some likeness thereof.

Marosa took it with a grimaced smile, holding it by two fingers. "Uh... thanks, laddie." It dripped with slobber. The Woehound's whole back end shook with happiness; he couldn't tell that Marosa was disgusted by the doll. All he saw was happiness from his owner.

The Woehound went back to digging, this time ending up all the way in the hole and barking once more, letting out a loud whine.

Apparently he'd gotten stuck.

Shaking his head in dismay, Marosa pocketed the rag-doll and walked over, kneeling down to extend a hand to his dog. The Woehound put his paw on Marosa's hand, and Marosa gripped it, slowly pulling his dog out as the dog propelled forward with his hind legs, almost resembling flippers on the sand with how he was trying to walk up with Marosa's help.

"Well, ye shouldn'ae have done that." Marosa chucked. "Dig yerself into a hole. Tch." The dog gave him a woofy grin, and Marosa had to laugh, roughing up the Woehound's already mussed up hair in a good manner, then handing him the rag-doll to hold with his muzzle.

The Woehound was proud of his find; it was evident with his nonstop tail wagging, sending sand to either side of both their bodies.

How many times had Vero come into Sleuth’s gym? There was the time he tried to lift weights and failed, only to see Herryk come in and squash the competition flat. Then there was the minipet race, wherein his asteroid belt was so wooed by Ulmuka’s Aurora that he barely made one-fourth of the track before it was all over. And then there was the time when Vero had tried (for some reason) to once more lift the weights, failing as quickly as he had the first time. Most recently, the spirit had participated in the jump rope contest – that is, if you counted participating as “failed to jump over the rope once”.

So in all, that made . . . four failed tries in Sleuth’s gym of physical prowess. Four in a row. What would the superiors say if they knew? Vero could not lie if asked specifically about it, but a lie of omission, hum . . . Yes, he would simply not mention how many times it took him to get a badge – all the superiors would care about is the fact that he did, no?

Sigh. He felt like such a twig-limbed weakling every time he stepped in. Probably because he looked the part.

There was another event going on apparently, as Vero spotted several visitors and students in the middle of various tasks or games – all of which had a distinct canine feel to it. No surprise, given who the leader of the gym was. Vero, however, was not an avid dog lover, or a fanatic of all things furry for that matter, and Astro wasn’t quite doggish enough to make the cut, he thought; the minipet could probably pass as a goat, nothing more. And it wasn’t as if Vero had thought to bring his minies over for the festival either, so he was hitting a dead end. Perhaps the badge would be beyond him . . .

And then the spirit blinked as something softly radiated orange. By his foot. Out of the ground. Was that a . . . tiny pumpkin? It “blipped” several times before floating upwards, a small, semi-translucent body attached to it.

User Image

“Hummm. What’s this?”

The creature was a minipet, Vero identified, but what kind it did not know off the bat. White as a table cloth, it (he? she?) was no longer than half of the spirit’s arm and half of that length as tall, with curious holes for eyes. While it had no legs, the minipet’s bottom rustled as if a wind was always beneath it. The creature floated effortlessly higher until it was in Vero’s natural line of sight and barked.

“Er . . . hello?” Vero greeted it, eyeing the red collar about its neck. “Where is your owner?”

The creature cocked its head as if confused, then happily yipped again as it flew around Vero’s head several times, its odd nose poking gently at Vero’s cloak. It apparently was intrigued by the smell of fish he permeated, and the minipet’s “tail” wagged excitedly as if it thought he had more of those things to feed it.

Vero didn’t know what the thing was, but “ghostling” was the bluntest title he could give it; only later would he realize that true name of the minipet species. Was the simpler “ghost dog”. “If you have no owner, little ghostling, we would like to play a game with you,” Vero told it, assuming the continued tail-wagging was a good sign. “If you help us find objects in the sandbox, we will reward you with treats.” There were still several biscuits in Vero’s coat pockets from his first time in the gym, courtesy of Herryk’s forethought.

Previously owned or not, the minipet knew what a “treat” meant. The funny big-bug wanted to play for treats? AWESOME. The ghost dog’s nose glowed bright and blipped on and off several times in an excited fashion.

Vero beckoned the ghostling. “Follow us.” The sandbox was not far from them, and several of the other pairs of students and minipets were already beginning to dig. Still, the box was quite large and surprisingly deep, so even though they were not first, there were quite a few virgin areas to try out. Who knew what Sleuth or Hound, or any of the leader’s other pets, had hidden there?

Jack, he didn’t know what to do with dogs. Now what was the term people used to send their canid companions out? Er . . . “Fetch?” Vero experimented tentatively.

With a third happy yip, the ghost dog buried itself into the sand . . . without so much as disturbing its contents. Vero blinked, wishing he had the capacity to do so. The usefulness of complete intangibility were almost limitless: no longer being obstructed by immovable objects, no longer having to take the long route to get somewhere, no longer having to fastidiously clean himself if all he had to do was just fade out briefly, the dust and grime sliding off as easily as water . . .

So jealous. So jealous.

This is the first time Minnie and her spectral pup, Cerberus, came in to Sleuth's Gym. "Wow, this place is sure is awesome...". Then, Minnie challanged Sleuth. But sadly, Minnie didn't win, and the bored Minnie decided to play dig with Cerberus.

"Since i'm bored... Lets play a digging game, shall we?" says Minnie while pointing into a sand box. Cerberus wags his tail, and its eyes shining brightly. Then, Cerberus charged off to the sand box. "Wait boy! That box seems--". Before Minnie can finish her words, Cerberus just jumped off into the sand box, and dissapeared. "Pretty deep." says Minnie finishing her words.

Then, Minnie dashed off to the sand box, and see into it, if there's any sign of her spectral pup. "Cerberus boy, are you there?". Suddenly, she heard a 'woof'. Then, Cerberus pops out from the box. "Ah, there you are!", Minnie says then pets Cerberus, and Cerberus wags his tail in joy. Minnie looked at Cerberus mouth, "Boy, what's that in your mouth? Spit it out.". Cerberus spitted it out. "Oh. Its just a piece of old paper.".

Minnie has an idea. What if, the sand box is filled with loot? "Cerberus, go dig boy!". Cerberus jumps into the sand box, and digs as fast as he can (which is pretty much fast). Cloud of sands poofs up, making Minnie cough. "*cough, cough* Boy, slow down a bit!". But Cerberus didn't slow down at all. Not even a bit. After digging for a mere 15 minutes, Cerberus made a pretty huge hole. Then, he pops out on top of the sand box again. "Find anything?". Sadly, Cerberus just sit there and the lights in his eyes is getting darker. "Well, lets just sit here for a few minutes, hoping something awesome will happen".

exclaim PLAYTIME OVER!

It must have been Rhythm's lucky day because as he dug so passionately he managed to uncover something quite shiny. It was one of Sleuth's Gym badges, surely that would earn him the love he so desired?

Israfel's invisible dog had also had some success it seemed for with the tiny puffs of earth and the kick, kick, kick of the dog also came a tiny tinkling noise as one of Sleuth's Gym Badges was uncovered.

Ruska in his wild searching managed to come across a tiny spider that clung to his nose and stared at him wide eyed.

Poke meanwhile probably noticed that as her foxfire settled down in her lap a little spider was curled up for a nap ontop of the foxfire.

Meanwhile as Marosa pulled out his hairy woe-hound and gave the minipet a good natured tousling another of Sleuth's Gym Badges fell with a clink from among the mop of hair.

Fetch it seemed was indeed the correct word Vero, but can you get the stray Ghost Dog to come back and hand over the shiny gym badge he's found?
