The third time Gale shot at the creature nearest to him, he could feel his heart pounding erratically in his chest. Not from fear, but from the adrenaline rush that holding the gun gave him. He supposed he was probably demented somehow, that there was a disconnect in his brain where that fear should be, but whatever it was, he was concentrating more on blasting the crap out of the things gradually getting closer to them.
This is so messed up, Gale thought, holding the gun up once more and pulling the trigger.
Bang.

Luckily (or maybe it was unluckily for Gale, his second shot ricocheted off of the creature's leg with a sickening crunch. It didn't do much damage, and it most definitely didn't stop the...whatever it was, from advancing closer, lurching with a moan and a shriek towards where Gale was standing. He glared at it, determined to get rid of the damned thing, and held up the gun, squeezing one eye shut as he pulled the trigger a final time. This time the shot just sort of bounced off the hand of the thing, and Gale let out a string of swear words probably not appropriate for a fifteen year old.
"This totally bites."

((Shot 1: Hit, 6 damage Shot 2: MISS Shot 3: Hit, 5 damage)) He smiled an honest to god smiled as she found the will to laugh. Sure they probably shouldn't be laughing or joking but it was keeping his mind focused off of the fact the things were doing things that things didn't normally do. Damn things.
"We'll probably have to reload soon, if we can at all." He hadn't seen any large crates to bust open to find ammo in. Or fruit. He never understood the aspect of some video games. Bust open random s**t, find ammo. Too bad reality wasn't the same. "Don't worry, before we get eaten alive I'll be sure to give you one intense make out session. Until then, I vote we fight like hell and don't give them an opening."
BANG
He looked at her and not his target. But the sound of something hit meat reached his ears. He hoped that was a good shot. If he was going to flirt at least let him look cool sometimes. "Our first mission and I feel like we're half way to ********." How many rounds did he have left? Releasing the magazine he checked. One shot. That...wasn't promising.

Humor kept her from losing her mind. What with damn things and shooting them. Her arms couldn't help but shake a bit. Her shoulders were starting to get sore from recoil and her aim hadn't been exactly the best to begin with. It was hit or miss, to be exact. When she hit she hit good though!
"Oh man, no kidding..." she paused, watching Marcus as he checked the magazine in his gun, before attempting to mimic the same action...with a log of struggle and some swearing. She frowned before popping it back in.
"Well, I'm down to my last shot. Hopefully everybody has this covered or we might have to make out sooner rather than later." Cass laughed again, the grin coming back to her face before she took aim and pulled the trigger.
BANG
Hey! She'd hit it again! Cass pumped one fist excitedly, the grin getting even wider. "******** yeah! That's three shots now!" It wasn't really the best track record, but her pride in managing that would make it hard for someone to try and put her down for it.
Or for it to actually effect her.

Madison had to choke back a shriek when their original target burst into a hideous tangle of teeth and tongue and oh my god kill it. Tension seared through her muscles, and her hands shook even as Caelius dispatched the abomination.
These were ten times worse than the monster in the nail salon. A hundred times. And there were more of them...
But they had weapons, damnit. They'd stopped the first one, hadn't they? They could stop these, too. Not just stop them - eliminate them. Eradicate them. Bring them to extinction.
She took a deep breath and lifted her still-trembling hands, trying to take aim. But her hands were shaking too hard, and even as she pulled the trigger she was sure the shot was going to go wide... but then the monster she was aiming at flinched a bit.
Had she done that? It hadn't been much of a hit at all, but... it was better than nothing. If, in fact, it hadn't just been a fluke...

"Calm down, calm down," she chanted, under her breath, trying to focus. If she couldn't calm down, then she wouldn't have a chance of hitting - of stopping - the abominations.
She didn't want to think about what would happen if they couldn't stop their advance.
She took aim again, still whispering. "Calm down, calm down, calm down-" The sound of the gun going off, the recoil, startled her anew - but the monster she'd been aiming at hissed, and she saw a chunk of flesh fly off. A solid ******** off, you b*****d," she hissed, satisfied.

Thus emboldened, Madison swung to target another creature, firing the gun before she'd settled entirely into firing stance... and her cockiness cost her, the bullet missing absolutely everything. She let out a frustrated breath that hissed between her clenched teeth.

It seemed overconfidence was as bad as fear? Madison shook her head and tried to renew her focus. It was hard, even when the fear had ebbed somewhat. The movements of the abominations combined with the constant gunfire were extremely distracting.
She took a deep breath, aimed once more - taking a bit more care in her targeting - and fired. This time the monster she'd aimed at stumbled. She'd aimed for the knee, and hit it, slowing its advance somewhat.
Hah.
But there was no time to celebrate. Not now. She shrank back into the line of humans, hands still clenched around her gun.

When Caitlyn complimented her shot, Hanna smirked wider. She liked feeling smart and talented -- who didn't? But Hanna could have a bit of an ego about it, and Caitlyn's words were just nourishment for her concept of self. So far when it came to shooting the strange creatures, Hanna wasn't doing half bad. Beside her, Scarlett seemed to be having a bit more trouble.
"They can't all be winners, ease up on yourself," Hanna said lightly to Scarlett. "We're shooting... things, not animals. I don't know. What sort of preparation could we possibly have for this?" Golden eyes flashed to Davey, the one with the dogtags. Still, it wouldn't help the girl to get down on herself. For whatever reason, Hanna had drawn close to the white-haired one at the start. She had no intention of changing that now.
Something screeched like a banshee in the distance. Hanna whipped in a tight circle and fired off an impulsive shot, missing entirely. "Or uh... don't fire blindly like a complete moron either -- they are getting close, aren't they?" Hanna backed up toward Scott. "Don't just stand there then. Fire that off, will you?" Maybe he would do better than her.
...she sort of hoped not.

Scott’s skin crawled. Any relief he felt over seeing the creature finally succumb to their bullets was severely tempered by the gruesome display of its death. The thought that these were the things that were crawling around in the shadows tightened his grip on his gun and sent his mind reeling back to his nice, safe, boring desk at the insurance agency. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying his hardest to imagine the stacks of papers. The humorless Dilbert-a-day calendar. When he tried to picture the cute secretary who sat across for him, all he could see was that unfathomable monster, pretty smile and flirtatious eyes turning into gnashing teeth dripping with blood.
Eyes sprung open at the sound of the shrieks. His heart sank as those shuffling forms slinked out of doorways, dragging themselves through the sand from all sides. His mouth fell open, searching for words, but finding them drowned out by voices and gunshots.
Ah, there it was. Fear. A pure, reactionary instinct to survive. Pulse pounding, sweat breaking out across his forehead, symptoms of adrenaline coursing through his veins. All of it so distinctly unpleasant. Scott’s brow furrowed, trying to comprehend the strange things, but only finding himself further confounded every time a leg or arm twitched at an unnatural angle. He couldn’t wrap his head around them, and there was nothing Scott hated more than something he couldn’t understand.
“Real impressive, sunshine.” As he fell back against Scarlett and Hanna to form a tightly-knit triangle, he wasn’t all that shocked to see one of Nowicki’s bullets produce a tremendous spray of blood. But her slip of the tongue and Scarlett’s two off-target shots darkened him a bit. “Remind me to give you a hearty congratulations when we’re not in danger of being flayed or eaten or clawed or… or…” His voice trailed off as he attempted to figure out what kind of grisly acts the beasts were capable of, finding himself popping off an unfocused shot that only grazed one of the shuddering horrors. He narrowed his eyes, hoping at the very least they couldn’t disembowel.

“I am firing,” Scott said through clenched teeth, watching as another poor shot did little to slow one of the creatures shambling towards them. Though his latest could probably be upgraded to mediocre, it still paled in comparison to the likes of Caitlyn’s and Hanna’s, two very talented… teenage girls. His rational mind assured him that he should be more concerned with overcoming the encroaching horde than with proving himself to a group of what were essentially complete strangers. Having just been called Cho, however, he couldn’t shake an inexplicable need to be seen as more than just “okay.”
If Hanna didn’t watch it, she was probably going to give the poor guy a complex.
“Failure is just an opportunity to learn what you’re doing wrong,” he said half to Scarlett and half to himself, sounding less like words of encouragement and more like a measured observation. “Though I think self-improvement should take a backseat to not being torn limb from limb, at the moment.” He frowned, grimly adding dismemberment to the list of possibilities.

Bix was slightly thankful the monster had exploded when it did. The disgusting death distracted everyone from the fact that he'd sort of just told David off. The relief lasted less than a second when the MONSTER HORDE appeared.
Bix almost screamed but he was slightly charged up from his rant and his scream of fear turned into an "AHHHH!!" like Rambo or something. He swung his gun out in front of him and fired.
FINALLY. FINALLY. The closest one was hit with the slug. Maybe bad aim didn't matter when there were so many! Or maybe he worked better all charged up with anger and backed into a corner. Either way it worked for him just fine!

It was like something out of a horror flick, or a horror survival video game. Candace nearly dropped her gun at the sight of the woman-thing becoming an abomination. It disgusted her to her very core; it was one thing to see these kinds of creatures in games and movies and television, but that was where they were believed to be fantasy...it was an entirely different matter to see these things in real life where they were real and very much in her face. Before she could even unlock her safety, however, the abomination had faded into mist. "...Is that all?" No way. It couldn't be.
Her skin rose in goosebumps and a small tremble shuddered down her spine at the shrieks. What were those?!
Candace unlocked the safety and aimed for the first thing she saw..
Ha! She hit one!

Candace grinned. She hit one! On the first try! Now for the next! She was feeling a bit cocky as she aimed for a different...creature thing...
BANG!
That one hit it right in its throat! Nice! Maybe she was finally getting the hang of this gun thing. But something wasn't right about this..a gun didn't feel comfortable in her hand. What she wouldn't give for the dagger she'd had in her hand before. Candace wanted to get up close and personal.

Tika had given Before a smile at his encouragement but not much more then that. She was still focused on the thing that had dissolved into mucky goop. Gross... Though that didn't last long. More things were up and coming toward them yet again.
Tika rose her gun and aimed.
Her aim was completely off though. Oh s**t! That wasn't good! ((Missed))
