Ren reached the guard post about the same time as the wolves were leaving. They flowed around her and headed off. One of the guards tossed her a key, and she used it to unlock the weights on her arms and legs. Boy, did she feel like she was about to float away once they were gone! She headed to the kitchen and told one of the cooks to make her a salad with as many fruits and nuts as they could find. She needed the slow-acting sugar.

"Oh hey Ren, you made it just in time." Astrayl found himself in the kitchen looking at his young apprentice. He then looked at the cooks who looked more like muscle men. "Hey I need you guys to make a three course meal for her. Have plenty of meat for proteins and the carbs might not be a bad idea either." Astrayl then looked back at Ren. "Come on. The heads of the four houses are meeting along with the elders. It is only right that my apprentice sits by my side to learn what the politics are like." He turned around and walked out of the kitchen and towards the main hall.
The main hall was built to form a more eastern style as was the entire clan. They believed in a simpler outlook as more time could be spent training rather then working on such complicated buildings that westerns liked so much. Inside were the fours heads of the houses. Lord Domiko of the Grizzly bear estate, Lady Mikki of the Polar bear estate, Lord Kaiser of the River Bear estate, and finally the two heads of the Black bear estate, Astrayl's parents, Lord Zetsu and Lady Sakura. The heads of the houses sat on the sides of the room whle the three elders sat in the back. There were seats at the front for Astrayl and then another seat next to him for his apprentice.
The house heads greeted him with a simple bow. His father got up and gave Astrayl a big "bear" hug like he always did. Zetsu, his father, was a affectionate man who loved his son but was one of the best warriors in the bear clan. He was stubborn too which only fit the rest of his physique. Unlike Astrayl, who kept a slim look, his father had bulging muscles that made it look like his chest was trying to rip out of any shirt he wore. Then his mother who was delighted to see him came up for a hug as well. Even though there was some affection, Astrayl could feel the dark aura behind it. His mother was still angry about the recent events with the Dragon clan. Hopefully the news of their marriage would calm her down.
After the formalities Astray sat at the top of with his apprentice. "Alright lets get this meeting started." The everyone else agreed. "First topic, I would like to inform you all that Ren here is my new apprentice." The house heads already guessed that from where she sat but it was still a surprise. Lord Kaiser then spoke, "does she carry a healthy body to hold in the spirits?" Astrayl nodded to this question. "Yes very much more then her mother actually. On our way here I had her go through the weight training. She finished at 2000lb." The heads were shocked. Astrayl smiled, "This girl is very much like her mother and I, a prodigy, a person born to fight. I feel that her growth will continue even when she takes my position." He smiled at her as waitresses soon came in with food for everybody. "On to the next topic."

Ren sat beside Astrayl at the meeting, listening closely to the issues being discussed. She blushed a little at her cousin's assessment of her and the estate heads' shock, glad she'd returned her mask to it's place over her face when they'd returned because it hid the color in her cheeks.

As they began to eat a bit, Astrayl continued. "The next topic is about the recent issues with the Drayce family. I was at fault for calling their apprentice to a meeting between whisperers and I acknowledge that." Everybody in the room agreed and some of them even sighed. This was a usual thing for Astrayl. He has caused problems like these in the past that almost sent their clan to war with others. Luckily he also solved those same problems soon afterwords. The elder of resources spoke before Astrayl could continue, "Astrayl, everyone in here knows what you are like. Selfish, quick-tempered- and sometimes quick to jump the gun. We all know what you have done now tell us what you have done to solve the issue." All the lords looked from the elder to Astrayl expecting to hear an answer.
"I am to marry the Dragon Whisperer." Astrayl smiled as the rest of the lords and elders went into shock. This was big news for quite a lot of reason. This marriage was the first marriage in history between two whisperers, none the less the Bear and Dragon whisperers. It would mean a treaty between the two clans and shared power. Also, this was Astrayl, the man who said he never wanted to marry or have anything to do with kids. Lord Domiko was trying to comprehend what Astrayl just said. Lord Mikki was in the same boat except he still had a shocked look on his face. Astrayl's mother was trying to convince her husband that this wasn't a good dream but real-life. The elders were talking to Lord Kaiser, trying to convince him they it was all their idea. Astrayl just smiled at the chaos he created.

Cruel dark clouds loom just above the bow and the torrential rains begin to fall Lightning and thunder hack up the sky with blazing blades As dragons fight to win the night
Dɼagaɲa Єadgyσ Dɼaycє Dragana's lips quirked upward at Marnie's half-serious joke. Her aunt was quite likely to do such a thing, though if she went too far, Dragana had no qualms about setting dragon spirits on her to keep her within the borders of Drayce lands. "I haven't been invited to one before. The Wolf clan holds one once a year, I believe, and is generally open to those within their territory. Outsiders are usually invited by clan members, though we are to be special guests of Shira personally. I can only assume she has something she wishes to share with the other Whisperers and their apprentices."She folded her hands in her lap and gazed at Marnie, a more serious look in her eye. "Now, what of your questions about the spirits?"Dragana wasn't nearly as well versed in the spirit lore of the other clans as she was in that of dragons, but she wanted to hear the questions still.

"Oh...okay." Marnie fiddled with her invitation as she pondered her questions.
"Well...I wonder about the size of the other spirits..so far I haven't seen a spirit from the other clans that's more than the size of it's regular animal counter part...although obviously there are no 'normal' dragon counterparts, I see a difference between the sizes of our spirits and theirs. "
"It also seems, that communication between the other whisperers and their spirits is different - or at least it looks different. Like, the howls of Shira's wolves, we could hear those, but they didn't speak - or at least not so I could hear.
The Bears so far seem rather quiet as well - in comparison to dragon spirits I mean...is it just that we can't hear other spirits voices?? " The last prospect kind of worried Marnie, she didn't like the idea of not being able to speak to spirits, even if they weren't from her own clan. You could see them...she figured communication would be extremely important. Though it would totally explain half the stories about people driven crazy by ghosts... and it would certainly be an effective tool for bothering a neighboring clan's future whisperer prospects should they be afraid of large and or dangerous animals.

Dɼagaɲa Єadgyσ Dɼaycє Dragana nodded, remembering when she'd asked the almost exact same question to her master. He'd only slapped her for "being an impertinent little slut" rather than admitting his ignorance. "From my experience, the size of a dragon spirit will vary depending on how powerful it is and how old it is. The most powerful dragon spirits would be the deep ocean ones, and I've heard legends of one that encircles the entire world through the ocean." She tapped the side of her cheek in thought, then added, "I'm not certain I could speak on the other clans' spirits. I haven't ever battled with one of them, so there's been no need for any of us to summon our most powerful allies. I would assume they vary just like our dragons do, but I haven't really confirmed it. It's a bit rude to simply ask the other Whisperers to divulge their secrets. I wouldn't tell them much about the dragon spirits if they asked, after all."She looked over at the dragons that had returned and were cavorting in the air, nipping at each others' tails and pulling on the manes of those who had them. "I have never heard any of the other spirits speak either, though I've watched them communicate with their Whisperers. The Ram Whisperer once confided in me that the dragons sound as if they're communicating in whistles and screeches, though to us it sounds like words."Dragana beckoned one of the larger dragons to her and held out her arm. It immediately sped over and looped itself around her arm, looking a bit like a very large snake with legs. "Can you understand the other clans' spirit animals?"The dragon shook its head. :No. I think the older ones might, since they've had time to learn their languages, but I can't. Did you want me to learn, Mistress?:"No, my darling, I was simply curious. Thank you, you can go back to your games."The dragon uncoiled from around her arm and took off, returning to the others. Dragana looked back to her apprentice and raised one eyebrow. "Does that answer your question?"

"Enough," " Marnie nodded once affirmatively. " It's interesting though isn't it? With enough time I suppose anyone could learn another language, just by listening to it. I think I shall make it a goal to try and speak with a different spirit one day. Not that I would ever be disloyal to my clan of course. ... But it would be nice to get rid of some ....restrictions." Marnie tried to phrase it so she wouldn't sound traitorous. But she really would love to be able to speak to all the spirits. She practically bubbled over at the prospect; though she didn't realize it. Was it really any wonder her parents watched or planned her every move? Excitement was not an appropriate display for a Drayce.
"Do you think the great dragon spirits would teach us? I bet we could convince them learning the language would be advantageous....but then again they must have had their reasons for not having passed the knowledge along already. " Marnie contemplated a moment then shrugged, she figured they couldn't very well complain if she learned on her own, and she could certainly think of a couple reasons why it was safer for some of the previous whisperers to have never learned.
She too turned to watch the dragons play and smiled quietly as they displayed seamless and effortless series of acrobatics. Out of nowhere she asked "Was there to be any bad weather off the coast tonight? I feel ... Cold." she said the word as if she were uncertain that it was the right descriptor but could think of no other. She still smiled and watched the sky but her eyes were serious. Green and calm.

By the time everyone had regained their composure, Astrayl was laying at the front playing with a small circular piece of metal. "Are you guys quite done yet?" The fastest to regain their composure was Lord Domiko, he basically slapped himself to try and find out if what Astrayl said was a dream or not. Soon the Grizzly leader spoke, "Astrayl if what you say is true, how did the Drayce Whisperer react?" Astrayl smiled and sat back up. "Well she seemed to be all for it. Really why shouldn't we be. It isn't a known secret that we produce the strongest warriors in the land. One small part of our army could take out a kingdom. Also, we can be a bit secretive, she may or may not want insight into how things are run around here. She probably doesn't even know that the Whisperer only makes up about three-fourths of the authority, while you guys make up the rest. Well now that I have a apprentice, Ren has a say now too." He smiled at her then went back to the lords. Astrayl's father regained himself then spoke in his usual stern tone. "Astrayl, no one here is more happy to here that you have been engage then your mother and I. But what is the whisperer like. We don't want to marry you off to some girl who just wants your power. We want her to be able to stand on her own two feet." Then Lord Sakura, Astrayl's mother spoke as well. "I know, why don't you allow us to meet with your fiance and her family? This will allow to get a first glance on what she is like." Astrayl knew she was going to suggest this plan, it only seemed logical really. Astrayl smiled at his mother. "I have talked to Dragana about this matter. She says she will come by in a few weeks once she has taken care of some business at home." His mother seemed some what pleased but not entirely convinced.
After a couple more hours of talking and arguing about other matters, Astrayl decided to end the meeting. "We will come back in one month. Everyone..." All the clan leaders stood, along with Astrayl and the elders. Astrayl then started to speak. "May we live long, but if we are to choose battle, then let our deaths be glorious and righteous. We as warriors must be strong, vigilant, and above all righteous." With that Astrayl bowed to them and they returned by bowing as shouting. "For the strength of the Bear!" With that they all left except Astrayl, Ren, Lady Sakura, and Lord Zetsu.
Zetsu walked up to Astrayl and gave him a big hug while crying tears of joy. "You are engaged, I don't even have to meet her to approve." He grabbed his son by the shoulders and looked at him. "I am just glad this has happened and that I may have grandchildren." Astrayl just sighed as his father finished. Then his mother came up to him and instead of open arms she raised one hand up and to the side. "Astrayl, my son, you are a..." Then she slapped him across the face with enough force to send him through the wall of the room and into the courtyard. "Fool!" She stepped out and walked over to her son. "I want you to marry a girl as much as your father, but who said it had to be another whisperer. I will not approve till I meet her." She started to walk away with Lord Zetsu close behind. Then she stopped and made one more glance toward her son. "If she is not here within three days to come meet your father and I, then I will not approve of this marriage. Thus, it will not happen and you will marry a girl I myself choose. Understand?" Astrayl would have spoken but found that if he did he would lose to his mother no matter what. She was more stubborn then anyone he knew, also three times as deadly seeing as how she is the bear clan's top weapon master. "Yes mother, I understand."

Ren winced as Astrayl was sent through the wall by her aunt's slap. After Lady Sakura and Lord Zetsu had left, she climbed through the hole in the wall that Astrayl's passage had made and offered him a hand up, hiding a smile. "You okay, cuz?" she asked.

Astrayl sighed after his parents left then noticed Ren coming to his aid. "Thanks Ren, there is only so much I can take from your aunt." He took the girls hand and hoisted himself to his feet. "Well looks like this might create complications." He started to walk towards the kitchen. "Come on Ren. Time for a small lecture while we eat." When they got there, the chefs had already prepared a full course for the two of them. "Your aunt is the head of the household, you know that much. When you take over there are a couple things you should know about each of the lords and also the elders." Astrayl sat down while expecting Ren to sit across from him. "Ok first is your Aunt and Uncle. Lady Sakura is the head of the household. Like every other women I know, including yourself, she is stubborn and strong willed. The fact that she is one of the clan's deadliest warriors does not make her any easier to handle. When she was talking about three days, she meant it." Astrayl was trying to go over scenarios in his head where he could convince Dragana to visit if only for a day.
"On to your Uncle, my father Lord Zetsu. He is my mother's one weakness. The two of them fell in love on the field of battle. Ever since then, my mother acts frail when ever he makes a request." Astrayl started to cut into the fried goose that was placed in front of him. "Now this doesn't mean he himself is easy to handle. Currently, the only person in the clan who is stronger then him is me. I will admit that if we fought, I would have to go all out just to beat him." After he told her about his father, Astrayl continued to explain about every other lord and their weaknesses and what kind of ideas they had.
During the entire conversation, Astrayl had eaten three grilled geese, two whole cooked chickens, five whole fish, a small piece of whale meat, and four cooked lambs. "Now that last people you should know about are the elders. The only thing I can really tell you is to never trust them." With that Astrayl finished, thanked the chef, then got up. "Alright now that the boring part is over lets go spar."

Ren listened quietly while Astrayl talked. Once again, she had to hide a smile. It wasn't like she hadn't known all this information already, seeing as her mother was the Whisperer Astrayl had needed to defeat in order to take the position. She'd told her much of this. When Astrayl stood, Ren followed, nodding.

Astrayl and Ren are a lot alike, something Astrayl could already tell because like him, Ren isn't very good at hiding things. 'Well the information I told her may or may not be relevant in the future. Who knows? Maybe she already knows everything I just told her, her mother was of course the whisperer before me.' He sighed as he walked onto the training ground then started to chant. "Those who represent strength, discipline, integrity, and the pure spirit to fight till you every inch of the body is broken, I summon you!" The spirit energy around him started to accumulate. Even now it could be visible to anyone with even the tiniest spirit sense. In another person's eyes they would see Astrayl surrounded by a vortex of energy. "I call upon one of the old!" Soon a small and feeble looking bear spirit appeared in front of Astrayl. It was sitting on its bottom with a jug of alcohol in one hand while wearing a tie around hi head. His face was red and he looked like he could barely stay conscious. The bear spirit then spoke. "You *hic* rang... hehehehehe do do di do." It stood up and started to fumble a bit back and forth. Astrayl bowed in the spirits presence then stood back up. "Bear spirit of the drunken fist style, you are one of the oldest so I take it you speak in the other tongues as well." The spirit opened one eye at Astrayl and smiled then laughed. "Yeah I do, I speak Ram, Wolf, even Dragon. Back when I was *hic* young it was necessity. Why? *hic* do you need me to relay a message?" The spirit smiled and Astrayl returned it with his own smile. "Yes I need you to go tell the Dragon Whisperer everything that happened a couple moments ago. Especially the parts about my mother and how she wants to meet Dragana in three days." The spirit nodded then took a swig of his jug. "You *hic* got it. I will *hic* be right back." Soon the bear spirit disappeared in a flash leaving for the Dragon territory.
"Alright Ren, now to start your training." Astrayl lifted one hand then put his other to his back. "Let's go basic for now. I want you to fight as if you are trying to kill me. For I shall do the same." With that Astrayl disappeared and then appeared behind Ren with his hand raised in a chop motion. 'Will she be smart and dodge or head strong and block?" To Astrayl, this was a chance to see where she is at in martial arts.

Ren sensed the blow and dodged by simply twisting to the side. She grabbed Astrayl's wrist in one hand and puled downward, pressing up on his elbow with the other, meaning to flip him.((Drunken fist?! Lol!!!! Isn't that a Naruto reference?))
