Guru Von Saxophone Sax player here... All of the saxes. Yeah, I know I kick a**. Words Of Wisdom From Bagel... Yay! Mee too! Except soprano, I can't stand the sound that makes. Probably because the only soprano I've heard played is by Kenny G. .:shudders:. I dun like him... He is a disgrace to sax players... He gets to paid to play the instrument out the side of his mouth! We must reatliate! .:cough:. Ok, I'm done... Now Go Forth And Share Them...

*bows to the bassoon in acknowledgment of awesomeness* Has to be one of my favorite instruments, and definitely under-recognized. But then, what low reed isn't?
mrgreen Bass clarinet, reporting for duty!

sl1120 i play bass clarinet. it's a pain to march with. this is my first year and the only time we've marched this year i got a bloody lip. my reed was pink for about 2 weeks. I would DIE to march with my bass...the bloody lip would be worn and played on with joy, most certainly...I hate soprano beyond belief, and playing it is always a task I avoid. Truth be told, TOUCHING it is something I avoid. At most costs. *sigh* If I could've done MB any other way, I would have.

Words Of Wisdom From Bagel... I got a bloddy lip during band season. The result of a water bottle plus a bass drum mallet. {Not my idea, mind you.} Couldn't play my tenor sax for a few days, and then I played with a numb lip. xd Now Go Forth And Share Them...

Base Clari. Marched with style. Note: When marching with Base clarinet, use a neck strap and play it like a sax, it's your best bet.

I have a large amount of respect and appreciation for bassoon players after trying(and failing) to play it. You guys must have thumbs of steel or something... xp I think bassoon is probably THE hardest instrument to play...

And I can march with my bass clarinet and no neck strap just fine. Since I am section leader, I make my section not wear neck straps, and I make them march with the istrument perpendicular to the ground, when playing them. And when they are not, they have them parallel to the side-lines. It's really not that hard to get used to. Not to mention that it makes it much, much easier to do visuals. And bloody lip? That's never happend to me before.

You should have seen the Bari Sax He's shorter than it, and he had to march with it ^.^ Or the Sousa... Oh god, I almost got knocked over by him. No bloody lip, but one dry mouth and tennis arm. Arg. xp

That's never happend to me before. I can't march with it because my director won't let me. Plain and simple. Our school owns eight Yamaha YCL-621 II basses, and with the wood, and $4,986 price tag, there's no way she's letting them outside. Even in the hands of her most capable and beloved bassliner . Makes me depressive, it does.
