Gabriel's eyes frowned even further now, his expression full of concern. Seeing no danger but still sensing a problem, he sheathed his knife and walked over to Nico, sitting next to her on the bed. He tried to read her expression to figure out what exactly she was talking about. Her face gave no answer.
He finally asked. "'Personal'?" he said softly. "What do you mean? What happened??"

She was seething with anger. She was in pain. She felt survivors guilt. She felt guilt for pulling that trigger. She felt conflicted. But she should fess up since he was her roommate, her team mate, and her friend. "I wasn't just being hypothetical upstairs Gabriel. There was a reason you found me in the state I was at the base." She said quietly, finally turning her gaze to rest upon him. The infinite conflictions within herself was rather apparent, closing her eyes against the tears that she could feel rising within her throat. No. She shouldn't cry anymore. It wouldn't be what he wanted.

Gabriel couldn't believe what he'd heard. His eyes widened, his expression changing from concern to complete and utter shock. "You...You were serious?" he stuttered. "I had no idea they could actually CLONE people!... Oh my God, that's... that's unforgivable! His fists clenched in anger, his gaze drifted to the floor in front of them. "I had no idea.... Yeah, I guess asking if you were alright was a really dumb question... I had no idea." His gaze returned to Nico. He looked her square in the eyes. They were big; she was on the verge of crying.
"I am so sorry."

Nico clenched her hands into fists, swallowing down the urge to cry. No... instead it was filled with her seething anger, shaking her head slightly. "It's alright. You had no idea. I appreciate the concern. However, don't lose any sleep on it. I'll be fine. I've gotten over him being dead once. I can do it again." Her brows knitted together as her eyes opened, staring down at her fists.
"Work is a distraction and the goal of killing those...." She paused, taking a deep breath. Being angry wasn't going to solve it. Her expression relaxed and she seemed more normal, turning her gaze to him. "Hey, what do you know about the Minoru's? Anything? It's alright if you don't." If she had told him that much about herself, she may as well let him know the whole thing. Everyone else did. Hell, Amaya hated and blamed her for it.

Gabriel's eyes never broke away from Nico. As she relaxed, so did he. But even as she relaxed, the sadness in her voice wasn't so convincing. He clung to every word she spoke. He wanted to be an aid he could.
"The Minoru's? You mean the Minoru family?" he said, frowning his lips. "Hmm... The name sounds familiar. I can't remember anything I might've known about them though..

His response caused a small laugh to rise from her throat. Ah well then... her suspicions had been right. He knew nothing. "Yeah, my family. There's a reason Amaya hates me so. My parents work for Dreamer's Industries. Dad's a publisher, mom's a doctor. My little brother Alden's power was this small dragon he named Kaoru. They shared a telepathic bond." She started, looking down to her hands again.
She pushed herself up from the bed, feeling a little restless mostly due to discomfort. "Alden seemed to become ill and he was sent away to this special hospital my parents told me. It didn't take long for me to hear he was dead. Furious, I dug into the matter since I refused to believe this was a truth. It was. My parents had lied, and now I knew why. I ran from home and thats when I became the hacker known as Sister Grimm."
Pacing around, she slowed as she walked past her desk, folding her arms over her chest as her dark eyes fell upon him. "When we were at that base, I found out who authorized the research and cloning of my brother and why. He apparently was injected with this gene or something to give him powers after he was born. I was apparently given mine at conception. I don't want to know whether it was via invitro or something else. For him though, he was the first to survive. And the one who signed off on all this was my mom. Sacrificing up her children for the sake of their ******** power trip." She began to pace in agitation again, the anger and bitterness clear in her voice. "And that's my family. Thats who we're ultimately after, or at least I am. They are rather close to the top of those in charge, so I'll get to take them down on the way." She came to a stop and leaned back against her desk, not seeming like a leader at all then. Just a tired girl who had familial issues. Vulnerable.

Gabriel's eyebrows rose higher and higher on his forehead the longer Nico told him the story. It was almost unbelievable. So she really has serious reasons for being here, he thought.
"That's crazy," he said, watching her walk over to the desk. "I can't believe Dreamers would go to such insane lengths! How can they do that?! He got up, feeling a bit fired up in the process. "I mean, toying with people's lives like that...." He looked down at the floor again.
"I can't say that I can relate to your exact situation," he started, hesitant. "...But I kind of know what it's like for family to betray you. My dad left me and my family when I was just a kid. Mom could barely handle my sister and I by herself. So when I was old enough, I helped out every way I could. But this city... He turned his head toward the blank, white wall of the room, imagining the cold city they were working to destroy. Cold, dark, and unforgiving. "The city isn't exactly kind to kind, hardworking people like my mother and sister. I've had to fight for everything we had."
He walked closer to Nico, leaning to the side and placing a hand on the desk. "That's why I'm here. This is the best way I can think of to protect my family, to provide for them." He paused for a moment, then looked at her again, chancing a small grin. "We'll do it,"he said. "We'll take the whole thing down together."

"Peoples lives are merely pawns. If the end justifies the means, they'll do it." Nico spoke softly, falling quiet as she listened to him. It was one thing to read a file about someone, it was another thing to listen them tell you about themselves. She imagined the city with him, remembering her large home that was there. No, that was no home anymore. It would never be home again. "No, it isn't." She murmured, brushing her bangs from her face.
Raising her eyes up to him as he drew close, she smiled softly at what he told her, finding herself reaching up a hand to brush away a few bangs. She suddenly moved forward and hugged him tightly, touching her forehead to his chest since she wasn't quite tall enough to put her chin over his shoulder. "I'll tear the whole god damn company down. We have to protect what matters most to us." She said softly, closing her eyes, not pulling away instantly. She lingered, not really understanding why she had done what she had done, but.... it was certainly calming. It felt as if the colder parts of her could be warmed.

Gabriel stood there, wide-eyed at what had happened. He couldn't believe what happening. His arms lay at his sides for a moment, frozen in place. "U-Uuuh.... he stuttered, too taken aback to respond at first. She felt warm against him, her head pressed up against his chest. He could almost feel her heartbeat.
After the shock had worn off, he embraced her back, holding her close with both arms. "We definitely will," he said in a firm, soft voice, close to her ear. He nodded his head slightly in confirmation. "Definitely."

As she felt his arms around her, heard his voice in her ear, she felt a few tears roll down her cheeks. She wanted to just cry right there, but she couldn't let herself do that. His initial reaction did bring a smile to her lips, holding herself a little closer against him. You never really appreciated getting a hug until it had been too long since it had happened. Or when you just... really... no, wanted one.
"I'll rain hell on you if you don't." She teased, shutting her eyes tight against a couple more tears, You are an idiot Nico Minoru. It took another few moments before she finally pulled away a bit, turning her head away from him so he couldn't see the tears. Wiping them away with her hand, she still hadn't pulled fully away, sort of feeling calmer. She certainly wasn't as.... volatile as earlier.

Gabriel stood there, enjoying the moment. For him, this specific moment in time would be hard to describe in the future. It seemed as though everything around him had faded away, and there was nothing in the room except Nico and himself. He felt a strange warmth, a strange assurance in that point in time than at any other point in his life. He felt as if everything was going to be alright. In fact, everything already WAS alright, he simply had to keep fighting as he was, with the team he was fighting it with.
He chuckled softly at her remark, but it slowly faded away as he saw tears begin to roll down her cheek. Frowning slightly, he put his hand to her face and softly wiped them away with his thumb. Her skin was soft; it almost felt too delicate to touch.

Nico was caught a bit off-guard as she saw his hand draw close, but then she felt him brush away her tears. Blushing, she turned her head back to face him, tentatively bringing up a hand to rest on his. His hands felt callouse from working, but she didn't mind. Her cheek probably felt warm to him from her blushing, finding herself moving forward to kiss his cheek softly. Ah! Why had she done that?!
Stepping back, she lowered her gaze for a brief moment, finding a logical conclusion. He was the one person she felt closest to here. Clearing her throat, she started to move for the door, tilting her head a little as she tried to hide her embarrassment. "hey um... Did you want anything from the kitchen? I was just going to make some tea. I mean, you can still join me if you want to. Up to you." She babbled in the slightest, suddenly tying her hair up into a ponytail on one side of the back of her neck.

Gabriel froze for even longer as he felt Nico's soft lips touch his cheek. He knew in his mind that they were warm, but compared to his skin they seemed almost cold to the touch.Is this really happening?? he thought. It did not seem possible. And then, they were gone. She had stepped back slightly. For a moment, he doubted that the kiss had happened at all. Part of him doubted. But of course, he knew. He knew and was glad.
As she stepped back, he took a step back as well, flustered. He watched her as she made for the door, adjusting her hair. "Um, sure! I'll be down in a minute," he said, scratching the back of his head and smiling at her. He needed some time to clear his head a bit.

Nico turned to look at him and nodded once, giggling to see him flustered. Yet there was a hint of embarrassment lingering in her eyes, unlocking the door and closing it softly behind herself. She took all of two steps before she leaned against the wall, touching her lips lightly. Jesus, they had just met the day before. Is there something wrong with me? She couldn't help but wonder, basking in the moment that had passed before she headed down the hall to the kitchen.
A couple of night shift guards were there, giving them a faint wave. Filling the pot with water, she turned on the stove and heated up the water. Meanwhile, she grabbed two cups, some sugar and two tea bags. Black currant, a personal favorite. Placing her hands in her pockets, she allowed her mind to roll over what had just occurred, an almost giddy sort of glint in her eyes.

Once Gabriel was sure that Nico had gone and heard the door firmly click, he swiftly turned around and walked to the side of his bed. He simply stood there for a moment, staring off into nothing, thinking of all that had surpassed. He replayed it over and over again in his mind: his entrance, their conversation, the hug they shared, the kiss he had accepted. The more he pondered it, the wider the smile on his face got. He enjoyed these memories in silence. Once he snapped himself out of it, he ran his fingers through his hair multiple times, trying to gather himself. Can't believe this is actually going on! he thought. He stood there for another moment in the quiet. Then, remembering the tea, made his way for the door, quickly straightening his outfit and running his hand through his hair one more time before opening the door and entering the hall.
He walked swiftly, the wide smile still on his face. As he made it to the entranceway to the kitchen, he saw Nico and froze in place at the doorway. He simply watched her, leaning on the side of the entranceway. Who knew watching someone prepare tea could be so interesting? After a few seconds, he stepped into the kitchen, stepping on the ground heavily to make his presence known.
