I'm getting braces soon, but I don't know what will happen. I play flute, so I dunno. My friend had braces while playing Clarinet, I didn't know how that affected her.

It's much harder to play with braces on brass (particularly higher brass like trumpet) than woodwinds, from what I've seen, since we get our vibration from lips layed over teeth, not from the reed

Eh; you'll just have to get use to them. *nods* I've had mine on for a little over a year, I believe, and it really hasn't impacted my playing at all. it probably helped more than screwed me over. :]

I got braces in April. It takes about a week or so but you'll get used to it. I play the tuba so I know. But remember your painkillers.

I had braces my freshman year in high school and i had to lower my reed size i believe. but after a few weeks you get use to it. I had marching band practice the day i had mine put on and my BD made me pull out my instrument and play too. It was horrible cuz i didn't get a chance to get use to my braces yet. Then it's hard learning a brass instrument cuz i started Spokane Thunder that same year and you really have to play with your embuchure alittle to see how u can play. Then you get them off and then you kinda have to relearn a little. But other than that I learned alittle with braces.

Playing with my braces was okay...I actually learned how to play the clarinet a little after I had just got my braces on...But now, I got them off!!!...It feels weird though...Whenever I play, I feel like I'm missing something in my mouth...(duh!)...I feel like I don't have control of my airstream too...It's just freaky...

When I got my braces on in December of '06, I couldn't play at all. That lasted for about 5 weeks or so for me, but it's okay because I got out of playing in our Christmas Concert for that year. xd Actually, I didn't play in our Christmas concert this year either because I decided to get smart and got my hand crushed under this giant, 2 ton moving door in gym class a week before hand.... It's a long story stare sweatdrop redface

it all depends on the instrument...if you play trumpet or the low brass instruments yeah i'm sure it will be annoying and it will hurt(my friend plays trumpet and when he got braces god did he suck! and it hurt him...he still can't play as good as he used to) if you play clarinet or oboe or something like me than it probley won't effect you much...might take some getting use to though(have braces and play clarinet) xd

My two fellow french horns played with braces for two years, and it didn't really bother them. But they say it's better playing without them than with them. But then you have one of our trumpets, who lost a lot of his high range after getting them removed . . .
