It's Just beneath the skin...

Ichi had actually already noticed Kiko's hair before hand and how it was naturally the grayish silver color that it looked like now; but he never said anything; mainly because he didn't see any reason to; it was just hair so its not like he was going to make a comment about it; it was the same as anyone else's hair; just a different color. As Ichi and Kiko sat there on the boat; the boat slowly made its way to the Land of fire; before landing in the docks. "K-kiko.... w-were here" He said before shaking her gently for a moment before. Standing up and looking out the window of the boat; ready to leave and enter the Forest to the land of fire.

User Image"Mm? Mmnn." The response was sleepy, and half-awake. Kiko's eyes opened, and she blinked, readjusting. "Here already...? What a drag...maybe I'll sleep some more later, whenever we go where you need to go..." She prodded San awake, and gathered up the blankets she had, before moving to step off the boat with Ichi.

Voices filled Seika's head, they weren't really familiar to her. This seemed to coax Seika into the process of waking up. She slowly opened her eyes to inspect her current location, and why her head suddenly felt like it was tied to a ton of bricks. There was a small light that she could see, it got brighter and brighter until there was an image. Then the voices got louder..? Seika strained to fully open her eyes, but it seemed to make her head feel- Wait a second.

Was that Shuniji's shiny backside?

Seika's eyes shot open all the way, recovering a grimace as she cocked her head upwards, investigating her surroundings. However, she found herself face to face with a small kid licking a rather large lollipop. The kid stared at her with big eyes as he intently licked at his rainbow colored treat. Feeling mildly creeped out by the kids strange behavior, Seika pursed her lip and rolled her eyes. She decided to bring her attention back over to Shuniji and lightly tapped his back. Maybe he could shed a little light on her, find out where they were and why everything smelt like ocean and not fried Ichite-ru corpse. "Hey, Sh-....." Seika felt something sticky being slapped onto the side of her head. It was the same lollipop that kid had, Now it was stuck to her hair.

Seika barked angrily and flailed her legs and arms around, forgetting she was still being carried. The kid put on the most innocent looking face and retreated behind his mother, who was unaware that he did anything at all. But Seika knew. That kid was pure evil and she wanted to poke his stupid eyes out with the stick end of the lollipop.

Shuniji jerked forward when Seika’s spontaneous failing resulted in his getting kneed in the stomach. He dropped Seika and her scythe fell to the paved road with a clatter.

The duo was currently standing in a long line near the edge of a small town. The smell of salt and iron revealed that they were, in fact, waiting in line to board a ferry.

Shuniji glared at the fallen Seika, though the expression lost its impact when placed beside a rarer occurrence. Shuniji was wearing a shirt—an honest-to-God shirt. It wasn’t even bedazzled or anything. It was a blue, long-sleeved turtleneck with a zipper down the front.

In the crook of his arm, the one that had been holding the scythe, he was carrying a large bag full of fabric. He pulled some out and tossed it at Seika.

“Nice to see you’re still on this plane of existence, though I was planning on selling your organs to this guy I met on the side of the road if you’d died. Here, I got us some winter clothes for when we get to the Land of Snow. I also got a cool snow globe at this awesome antique store I found. I would’ve bought another one, but I ran out of money. Did your dad finally cut you off or something?”

Shuniji looked up from his rambling when the line started to move as the ferry’s boarding took place. He’d been without someone to talk to for hours, considering he’d been reluctant to start up a conversation with that creepy child with the lollipop; though after seeing Seika’s hair, Shuniji deemed him to be a pretty all-right kid.

“Are you coming or what? I’m not carrying you anymore.” Shuniji was already cutting several other passengers in line while waving tickets in the crew members’ faces.

Completely ignoring the organs comment, Seika scowled when he tossed her the clothing. She was confused and quite angry looking. It's not that she wasn't grateful or anything.... Seika was about to comment on how expensive Shuniji's clothes looked until..."YOU WHAT?! HOW?! NO REALLY, HOW COULD YOU SPEND ALL OF MY MONEY?!" She snapped with a fierce look in her eyes. There was nothing that irked her more than having no money. She would have impaled him with whatever was convenient, but he was already heading off onto the fairy. "H-hey wait a second! Where are we going and why?!" Seika whimpered as she gathered her things and followed after him. Never mind the fact that he could have let her freeze and die out in the cold, and that he could have pissed away her money on something irrelevant to his conquest.

For now Seika seemed to have forgotten about the rainbow lollipop stuck to her hair. There were way more important matters, like; Why did Shuniji have to go and spend all of her money on CLOTHES, Where were they going, and what happened to Ichite-ru?

Shuniji rolled his eyes and made to drag Seika near the edge of the ferry, out of the way of the crowd that pushed onto the ship.

"I kind of don't want to freeze to death out in the Land of Snow because I'm not wearing a shirt. Consider it part of your body guarding duties." He crossed his arms and pouted. "Also, people kept staring at me. Normally I'd like that, but the way they only stared at my chest made me feel like a girl."

There was a beat of silence.

"Also, it'd probably be bad if someone actually knew what that thing did," Shuniji added as an afterthought.

Now that it was the perfect moment for a change in conversation, Shuniji slapped his open palm with his fist. "Oh yeah, that's right! Speaking of, we're headed to the Land of Snow, as I mentioned. I got a message from Lord Otokage about our next mission. You were unconscious or not in the loop or something, but you can probably guess what it's about."

He leaned around Seika in an attempt to make eye contact. "This time it's an ice fisherman, apparently. I'm gonna go ahead and assume that's gonna mean this'll be an easy assignment, though because I said that out loud, it'll probably be a huge ordeal..." He pursed his lips, perturbed by the thought.

"Anyway," He sighed and leaned against the railing again, "At least we're headed somewhere cool. I've had enough of the desert." He hissed maliciously.

It was a miracle Seika was still making an effort to listen to Shuniji after he took her wallet and spent all of her money. She gently ran her fingers through the sticky part of her hair as she listened to Shuniji. Obviously she managed to pry the lollipop out of her hair, now she was just grooming herself.

"I'm pretty sure we'll get lost there as well." Seika grumbled with a scowl, then spat out a small puddle of water in her hand. "Though at least you're smart enough to waste my money on something useful and fashion savvy." Seika reasoned with a small approving nod, then splashed the water onto the sticky section of her hair and combed it out. "I'm still mad at you though." She added before noticing something....small on the side of Shuniji's pants. It was pink and- Oh dear. "There's a pink lollipop stuck to your pants..." Giggled Seika as she continued to comb her hair with one hand, revealing a smile as she pointed it out with her free hand. It seems the little kid liked tapping more than one target.

User Image Kazin broke through the trees and jumped to the ground. He spotted the docks and walked toward them. He found the nearest dock hand, that looked available. Kazin walked up to him and nodded his head in greeting.

"Hello sir. Do you have a boat going to the land of water? If so, what are some of the rates?" Kazin asked the man, while trying to sound a little more mature than he usually did. He needed to get there to enter the exams as soon as possible.

Kazin at this point was a little nervous. He didn't really know what lie ahead, but was still pretty confident in himself either way. He didn't know much about the village hidden in the mist, as he hadn't really been to the land of water. His family had been to almost all of the villages, but not the villages hidden in the water, or sound. He wasn't sure what to expect from these ninja, so he just tried to brace himself for the worst. Also, he had no idea which villages had sent their own ninja for the exams. Kazin hoped that the Head branch wouldn't send anybody, but seriously doubted it due to the recent attack.

As soon as the dock hand showed him to a boat, he ushered for Yuzuki to follow. He paid the captain the necessary funds for himself and Yuzuki to have different cabin if possible, then walked aboard. Kazin waited patiently for the boat to depart, and watched the waves rock the boat gently. He didn't mind the waves, as he had traveled on them before, while his family moved around.

I'm one Nightmare...
~*Yuzuki*~

Yuzuki walked slightly behind Kazin as he reached the dock, she looked around at the boats as she went, she had actually never been this way before, she had no need so it was somewhat interesting to see how all this worked. She inhaled the sea breeze and then frown somewhat. She got thristy just taking in the salt water. She puffed herself up as much as she could, odd looks were coming her way and there was probably some sailors superstitions dancing through the heads of the crew. She was actually surprised by Kazin and his ability to mask his emotions as he was, he was doing well concidering that he just lost people he had a bond with. Yuzuki was fumbling with her wallet when Kazin took out the money and paid for her. She frown a little, that wasn't neccessary, she could afford it. In the mean time, she followed Kazin onto the ship as she was ushered in. She couldn't help but give him suspicious looks behind his back, his sudden generiousity either meant that he was looking for something in return or he was up to something. Yuzuki looked at the boat and wasn't sure what to think.

When Yuzuki boarded the boat, she walked beside Kazin, her hand poked out of her cloak and held out the payment for Kazin, if there was one thing that she hated, it was to be indebted to another. She sighed and looked out at the water infront of her, standing beside Kazin as she assumed that this was the best view... and she didn't trust alot of these sailors. Most of these men didn't look like they saw a woman for some time, and they seemed more interested in the length of her hair more than anything else. She sighed darkly, she hoped this was going to be an easy going travel.
"Why... are you being so generous all of a sudden? I thought that you hated me?" Yuzuki asked, trying to understand his angle and why he was treating her this way. She felt awkwards about it, and didn't know how to react. She continued to look ahead. The sea breeze made the bottom of her cloak dance around, creating some light snapping sounds. "Nervous?"

User Image Kazin looked at her, and took the money. He shrugged, and turned his gaze back upon the sea. It's waves were beautiful, yet dangerous. Kazin completely understood the wrath of the waters, and appreciated it fully. He waited a few seconds before answering Yuzuki.

Whatever floats your boat. Kazin choked back laughter for a second, and then preceded to snort. But seriously, its just understanding, not generosity. I was left some wealth before my family was killed, so I didn't mind covering the fee. I don't usually have alternative motives, and this was no exception. I was just paying it so you could eat. All I wanted to do was help you get to the finals. How stupid would it be that you couldn't afford the boat ride for the exams. Kazin's face turned serious and turned back towards the sea. His eyes were once again locked into the ocean, as it seemed a light glaze covered them as his gaze seemed to be in a constant battle with the ocean.

Yuzuki groaned and rolled her eyes at Kazin's joke, oh boy this might be a long, long journey if she was going to have to listen to puns and such the whole way. She fell silent and listened to Kazin as he went on and explained to her why he did what he did. She looked ahead at the waters, the same one that he was looking at. Some might have thought the scenery was romantic, something that would draw two people closer together... but Yuzuki wasn't all that interested in getting close to anyone. "Regardless... thanks for the offer." Yuzuki fell silent again, an awkward tension seemed to build up between them. What was she suppose to say to him now? She wouldn't appologize for the words she spoke before, for she saw them true and something that needed to be said, she didn't know how to start a conversation with someone who was so opposite of her that their dreams were bound to clash one day. Why bother building ties that were only going to be severed by either the razors edge of conflict or by death itself? Silence could be gold, silence could say things that words couldn't describe, and at the same time, silence could be so suspenceful that it could drive one to the literal brink of insanity. It was just like the darkness, she supposed, it comforted her, but it wasn't the tastes of anyone. Oh well.

"Hey Kazin, don't get yourself taken out too soon. I'll be waiting for you at the top." Yuzuki said, breaking the silence, at the same adding some boosting to invoke some competition between them. She wouldn't say that she wanted to face him the most, there maybe more there that would be the ones that made her feel some excitment in battle. People who thought like she did that could push her to her brink with violence so intense it boardered on the beautiful. It was hard to say what would await her at the end of this boatride, but maybe it would be something glorious and exciting.

User Image Kazin's gaze didn't break for awhile. Although he usually gave in to such remarks, his mind was in other places. The sun was quickly approaching the horizon. The clouds were being accentuated by the suns rays, giving a brilliant background to the sky. As Kazin watched the waves roll, his mind seemed equally turbulent as his recent thought had caught up with him. A deep sigh released itself without Kazin noticing.

Kazin gave a short meaningless chuckle before responding"Well, we'll just see how things play out. It's getting late, we should probably head to our cabins soon. Kazin finally averted his gaze from the water, and looked at Yuzuki. "Also, you might want to lock and trap your door for the night."

Kazin looked around then headed towards his cabin. He pocket the money in his wallet, and then headed inside. He closed his door then securely locked it. He set up a few traps that would only be triggered if the door was forced open on the outside. The room was smaller, which made Kazin a little nervous, but he was too tired to care. He lay down and quickly went to sleep. The rocking waves helped him enter a deep sleep. Kazin slept till morning.

"Careful now, people might start to think that you have feelings for me or something." Yuzuki mused with a smirk as she leaned back to watch Kazin leave, though, he was probably right, she took her leave in his departure. Woe be tide those who decided to try something with Yuzuki, still not in the best mood and more than a little grouchy from her lack of sleep it would end up being a rather painful and grim reminder that a girl now a days wasn't exactly weak and helpless. Whatever. For once, she took Kazin's words to heart and locked the door behind her, she rigged up some wire and some basic traps wherever there was an opening for someone to get into. The room was nice, small but still rather nice. There was a little closet shower not far from the bunks complete with toilet and a small sink. Yuzuki undid her cloak and sat down on the bed. She took her Demon claws off and rubbed the stiffness out of her shoulders. She looked outside through the window and watched the sky and the water for a little while. Yuzuki sat quietly alone for a while, too tired to sleep and too excited to be tired. It was something that she never thought she'd experience, but here it was. Normally she had a tight leash around her emotions. Such things got in the way of judgement when on a mission, so she did her best to make sure they didn't surface. Eventually, fatigue came to claim the girl. She rested her head on the pillow and staired up at the ceiling for a while, placing a kunai within a quick arms reach incase something did happen. Salty Sea dogs and all.

User Image Kazin woke up after a night of restful sleep. He disarmed his trap, and made sure all of his equipment was there before leaving the cabin. As soon as he walked out onto the deck, he stretched and took in a deep breath. He enjoyed the ocean, and the air always seemed fresh. Kazin walked to bow of the ship and looked out. As he squinted, he could see land along the horizon. Kazin once again leaned up against the side of the boat. He waited awhile for Yuzuki to get up. As he waited in anticipation, his eyes fell to the waves.

Kazin listened to the sound of the ocean. The sound of seagulls, and the crashing of waves, put Kazin into a light trance. His eyes seemed to bob along with the motion of the waves. He felt great, and well rested. His dreams had caused him to toss a little in his sleep, but nothing that had hindered his rest. If he had not been staring into the blue depths, Kazin would be almost shaking with excitement.

I'm one Nightmare...
~*Yuzuki*~

About an hour after Kazin got up and went to the front, Yuzuki pulled herself from the depths of the ship, she looked even more exhausted then when she went to sleep. She still hadn't shook those earily morning sleepies yet and was stumbling around a little bit with the ship, getting use to her water legs this earily in the morning was a no go for the Kounichi. To make matters even more complicated for her, she was wearing heels that gave sharp tapping sounds as they crossed the deck. Yuzuki's hand broke through the cloak and raised to her mouth to cover the yawn that was still covered by the mask that she wore, which was behind the high neck of her cloak. It was obviously a drilled in politeness that she aquired a long time ago. She walked up along side Kazin and mumbled something along the lines of 'good morning'. Her eyes were starting to close again and she was fighting to stay awake. Yuzuki wondered how much longer it would be till they got to the Village Hidden in the mists. Yuzuki started to wake up more and more as the time ticked by. The wind that picked up off the ocean was actually helping, she originally thought that she might be going overboard after she closed her eyes a few minutes too long. That was the problem when one got a good nights sleep after a week or so of poor sleeping habits, the body wanted to spend more time asleep to make up for such things. It was the reason she hated going to missions one after another, she couldn't give her body time to recover and when she did fall asleep she could sleep for days straight.

Yuzuki was now awake enough to make some conversation, she looked over at Kazin with a quirked eyebrow. "How on earth do you stay so chipper, even this earily in the morning? Its mind boggling."
Then again, there was no shifts to take when you were at home. Yuzuki had to sleep light and literally with one eye open on her solo missions when they required travel. it was pain in the a**, but it was necessary. Yuzuki brough her hand up and rubbed her eye with the heel of her palm, mindful of the five blades on her fingers that she was sporting. She twisted her neck to one side and then the other. A series of soft pops and cracks echoed in her neck. The drop from the Shukaku had made her neck stiff in the mornings. She was assured that her whiplash was taken care off but it would still be an injury that would come back on her every now and again. Feh, pain in the a**. Oh well, better a stiff neck in the morning than pushing up daisies at the local graveyard. Yuzuki squinted into the distance. "How much farther do you think we have till the Village Hidden in the Mists?"
