Nathan stared after Alex but snapped out of his thoughts once he placed the pack on his face, grimacing nad inhaling sharply. "Ah--...I'm fine...and what're you talking about, he seems...charming..." He winced a bit more but gave kitty a small smile.
"It looks like you've gotten things better than ever around here..." He noted, looking aorund the best he could.
Jess merely smiled when Alex came out, her blue eyes looking him up and down, blushing, then looking away to get herself back to work.
He fascinated her sometimes...though there was time to disect and analyze later...for now she had to finish alphabatizing books...

"I have. Still a lot to recover from, but we're doing rather well. Funny how a robbery can give you publicity sometimes."
Alex popped in for a few seconds to hand Kitty the book Sam had brought her. He treated it as if it were just another book, but in Kitty's hands, it could have been a fallen bird.
"Did you know," she said, taking the old tome onto her lap, "that this is a family heirloom? And it's practically irreplaceable."
Meanwhile, Alex came to the cash register, but stood looking at Jess.
"What was that look for?" he asked, worried that he'd done something wrong.

Nathan glued his eyes to the worn out book. "Really?" He asked. He hadn't known that. If anything it made him feel worse for what she had gone through. "I'm...I'm sorry.." He couldn't say that enough it seemed, to satisfy his new found guilty conscience.
Jess cocked an eyebrown and smiled, merely shrugging as she returned to her latter, climbign up a prong or too to stretch awkwardly to get to the top shelf of one of the older shelves on the side of the shop. "What look?" She smirked over her shoulder, her shirt riding up a bit as she leaned forward with some difficulty to make sure the books were wll in order, while balancing a small stacko f un alphabatized ones at the same time. "I'm just...looking..." She glanced back again and smiled real big, a small blush on her face. "...You're a good guy Alex..." She added, turning back around to work. "I just cant figure out how a girl like me got a good guy like you..." She sighed, furrowing her brow as she reached again.

"You're not the one who took it," she said, laughing just a bit from how awkward she felt. Maybe she shouldn't have said how priceless it was.
"But... you didn't use all of your money to get this back, right? You still have something to live on?"
Because his well-being was worth so much more than some old book. Even if it had been her mother's before she got the shop, Kitty felt like Sam gave away too much for it all at once.
Alex smirked. How could she not know?
"Because. You threw a shoe at me, and were crying, and then I discovered that you have a brain behind all those looks."
He was teasing, of course. Jess didn't look like a ditz, but sometimes her outfits distracted from what she really was.

Samson shrugged a bit, tilting hsi head up hoping that would help the pain a bit. "..." He furrowed his brow and sighed, looking up at the ceiling before he spoke. "What I'm wearing now...as well as a backpack of items and a pair of jeans...this is all I own to my name..." He swallowed a bit, not looking at her. "...It's my way of starting over...." He glanced to her a bit, a little embarassed.
Jess smiled to herself, trying to keep working despite blushing so much. "Well then I must remember to through more things at you..." She said softly, loving that someone looked at her that way. He thought she was beautiful, wich many men claimed over and over trying to sleep with her when they were out and inebriated. Though no man had ever expressed their intrest in her farther than her looks... It was nice, knowing that her worth in the world was more than a nice set of legs and a plentiful rack...

Kitty nearly dropped her book in the shock she felt at all that. Nothing? He had nothing... and for a book?
"Sam," she started, looking frantically from the cover to his eyes. "Sam, you've got to take this back. Sell it, get your living back! Please!" Kitty tried forcing the book into his grasp. If he felt guilty for having it stolen, she felt guilty for even having it back.
"I'm guessing that would be my punishment for knocking his block off." But Alex was standing there, smiling like an idiot from his counter space. She was so... beautiful. So very Jess, with the way she reached up to shelves and blushed. But that's when he realized he should have been helping her instead of watching, so he made his way to her side in a flash.
"Here, you'll fall like that... one hand on the ladder. I'll take the pile."

Samson smiled distantly nad held up his hand. "No...Nah Its fine..." He chuckled a little. "I've been living the life of a criminal since I was a teenager Kitty...I dont think now after someone gave me a conscience...." He removed the pack and gave her a playful wink. "That I could actually use any of that money to live the life I thought I wanted...I'd be a miserable, rich, lonely old man..." He sighed with a shrug, putting the iceback pack on.
"Please Kitty...take it....." He looked at her seriously. "I'm fine...I'm...staying with an old friend. One of my only ones.....He's an older gentleman, raised me in a way...even if I never really listened to him..." He smiled and shook his head. "I'll be working for him for awhile until I get myself steady again...I've gotta dig up my old identity...cover my tracks..." He furrowed his brow, knowing there was so much he wanted to tell Kitty, so much he wanted to open up about...but he knew better....They weren't there just yet...
Jess smiled down at him, knowing she could handle it though handed it over anyways, even if just to have him near. "Thanks..." She smiled, coming down a prong or two so she could peck his lips sweetly. She pulled back, keeping eye conact with him for a moment, as if talking with her eyes. Though after just a bit, she blinked, blushed and made her way back up, taking the book from the top of Alex's pile.

Kitty was hardly sure of what to make of any of this. He seemed so downtrodden, so genuinely miserable. What could she do?
"Sam, just.. make sure that if you need anything... food, a place to sleep for the night, anything, just come back here, alright?" She seemed like she wanted to cry, but held back. There had been enough tears over the past few weeks, over both him and the shop. "Please? You said you care very much about me, and even after all we've been through, I care about you, too."
Alex didn't know what she wasn't saying. Women! Why couldn't they be straight-forward instead of hiding everything behind blushes and looks?
But just as her shirt rode up a bit and he was about to land a kiss on her stomach, a customer came in, and he had to play the part of aloof store worker.

Samson put down the pack again and gave her a genuine but confused smile. "...You do?" He asked, puzzled. "Kitty I know you have a big heart but you can even forgive me?" He laughed a little, mostly out of disbelief. He had never expected anyone to forgive him with his big act of kindness... He just wanted to make their lives better then dissappear once they seemed ok again...
Jess could sense him pulling in close to her, though jumped a bit at th sound of the door opening. She was slightly annoyed someone was interupting their little moment, though knew she was still on the clock. She climbed down the latter and took the books from him in case they were getting heavy. "Hey...you wanna grab dinner tonight?" She asked with a warm smile, waiting to hear his reply before approaching the customer.

"I think I can after a few more bagels and hugs." Kitty's hand went out to the pack of ice and placed it back on his face. It was becoming quite swollen, and though Alex hadn't hit him there many times, she was impressed he could leave such a mark.
"Maybe a kiss or two, once you can move a muscle without wincing."
Kitty did have a big heart, but she could also hold a grudge for a long time. It was never fierce or bitter, but just a little weight she carried around that never seemed to go away.
Alex wanted a kiss or two of his own. If only Jess could have a break soon and if only Kitty and the creep weren't in the back room...
"Of course," he said, as causally as he could. "What time?"

Samson just smiled awkwardly, not used to anyone caring about him in the least bit. It wasa strange new sensation...
"Eh I've been delt A LOT worse...." He reassured with a chuckle as he held it a bit more firmly. It would most likely be a bit purple by the next day or so. He hated black eyes. They were hard to conceal when you were in a hurry and oculdnt have people see them...
Jess bit her lip in thought. "Well I'll just have to see when Kitty lets me off..." She turned a bit, noticing the one customer just idly scanning the books boredly. "She may even let me off early since it is rather slow today...and she may want some time with Samson too...." She glanced back at him and shrugged, not really liking that but knew Kitty could see somehting good in him...

"Sadly, I'll believe that." Kitty eased herself back into her chair. She wanted to feel deeply sorry for him, and yet she couldn't help but feel he had deserved everything so far. He deserved the black eyes and the beating, even though she'd stopped it. But now, things were going to get better, and she would be the one responsible for that.
"When will you start working? So I know when we can see each other, if you'd like."
"Yeah, they've been all hush hush in that room for awhile now," Alex pointed out. "Hope everything's alright."
But life had taught him that if everything wasn't alright, women either threw a fit or took everything silently. He hoped Kitty was the kind to throw a fit, even if she was a sweet young woman.

Samson sat up a bit. "You....still want to see me?" He asked with a quizical brow. "I mean...like we were?" He furrowed his brow, not sure if he deserved that or not.
Jess frowned and sighed, thinking a moment. She agreed. She made a dead line towards the back room and knocked before poking her head in. "Everything alright in here?" She asked, looking at Kitty directly.

"Well, not with Nathan," she said, her voice laced with soft laughter. "But yeah, with you. I think--"
But Jess came in right at that moment and cut off her words. She looked at her friend, Jess looked at her, and somehow Kitty managed to say, "Everything's fine."
She even added a smile.
Alex, though, had tried to stop Jess from just barging in. That was his style of doing things, but off she had gone to ask the question they'd all been wondering. And from what he heard, nothing was wrong.
But of course it was all wrong. Kitty was just being nice.

Jess gave her friend a look but took her word for it. "Well hey...Its like a ghost town in here...would you mind if I took a long lunch or something? I wanted to spend some time with Alex, and I was supposed to pick up my books for this semesters classes before 7...." She looked over at Samson and scowled a bit.
"Then again....I can always just get them tomorrow...." She wasnt too keen on leaving her friend with this man. How could they be sure Samson was his real name either? It was all too shady for her...
