"Ugh, no, Ki Du..." She pulled the puppy away from her shoes, frowning at the small dent in them now. It could have been worse, sure, but she didn't want the dog to think it was okay. "Here, chew on Rory's toes..." She set the dog near the boy's feet, grinning up at him.

As Ki Du headed for Rory's feet, the boy quickly stuck a large stick in the dog's mouth. "Chew on tha', boy." He set Ki Du down on the ground, looping the leash around his wrist. Ki Du gnawed away on the stick, making playful growls.
Rory looked back at Lee, smiling a bit. "Your mum looked kinda upset. Did Ki Du pee on her?"

"Nope, he just hopped on her." Lee shrugged, sitting back and looking at the pool water idly. "I think he knew she was trying to make me agree to that whole 'dating other people' thing." Of course, she knew he didn't, but it was fun to think he was that smart.

"Gods, is your mum on tha' now, too?" Rory grumbled. "I wish I ne'er knew Lydia." He looked out at the water, glaring at it as if it had some how been at fault. "You know, you'd think your mum wouldnae want t' gae upsettin' us since I offered t' help wi' her horse business." He looked back at Lee. "I think she honestly considers it my fault tha' Lydia raped me, like I wanted tha' t' happen."

Lee's expression softened as she sighed, not really knowing what to do about that. "Maybe she just wants you to think that. She wants you to think she hates you." Lee looked to the boy, shaking her head a bit. "She doesn't, though. I mean, she did, but not so much anymore. She'd never've let you stay here if she did." There was no way she'd have let Faolan step foot into her house, let alone sleep over for a week.

"Maybe," Rory said, shrugging. "I think later I might talk wi' her some more about th' horses. Might be nice t' gae ridin' fae awhile. Always makes me feel better." He looked out toward the stables. "Wish Kettle were here."

Lee sighed a bit, though not loud enough for Rory to hear, and she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "We can go home, if you want. I mean, I'd understand if you don't wanna stay here."

"It's only another day or two," Rory said, shaking his head. He looked over at Lee. "You should ask your da to hae dinner wi' you. Just you two gaen somewheres. He'd prolly appreciate it. I can talk wi' your mum about th' horses an' all while you're out."
Ki Du sat up suddenly, looking off. Squirrel! He bounded around, tugging at his leash and wanting Boy to let go. Squirrel! Squirrel! Wait, birds! Birds! The puppy ran back and forth, each time letting out a small wuff as he reached the end of his leash. He strained at it, whining and staring at the flock of pigeons.

Lee bit her lip and smiled, nodding a bit. "Okay. Just hope my mom doesn't convince you to leave me." She was only laugh joking. "I guess I should take a shower..." Lee shrugged, not really wanting to leave Rory. Standing and fidgetting for a second, Lee looked at her hands as she asked, "You're not really okay with meeting my friends now, are you? I mean, that's okay. I wouldn't be either." She would understand if he never wanted to meet another outsider girl again. Honestly, she wasn't sure if she wanted him to, either.

"Nae, I'll meet 'em," Rory said, looking down at Ki Du. "It wonnae hurt none t' know 'em an' be there when you tell 'em you're gettin' married."

Smiling at him with appreciation, Lee bent down to kiss him. "You'll at least be able to meet some nice girls while you're here." The girl was fairly confident her friends didn't plan to rape the boy. Shrugging, she decided she couldn't really pat Ki Du goodbye when he was busy running around like a freak, instead just heading back inside, up to her room to shower.
Mrs. Katan passed by her daughter, stepping outside once again to resume passing the time by sitting and doing nothing. She frowned at the sight of Ki Du, and decided to sit a few feet away, out of the puppy's reach. "How are you, Rory?" Her question was laced with slight amusement, though it was unclear whether or not it was genuine.

"I'm alreet," Rory said, not looking up at the woman. "I mean, I'm better than I wis earlier. I ain't too sure I'll e'er really get o'er what Lydia did t' me." He looked back at her. "Is it alreet if I ride one o' your horses later?"

The woman shrugged, glancing over at the boy, hoping he didn't notice her slight frown. "I suppose." She figured she didn't have to tell him to stay out of her workers' way. She sat in silence for a while, trying to relax but finding it was nearly impossible with Rory and his dog so close. "Are you planning to talk to my husband about what happened?"

Rory nodded. "I think it might help some t' talk wi' another man about it. Me own da ain't here an' you an' Mr. Katan are sorta like parents t' me now." He looked at the ground, shame still clear in his expression. "I figure he'll lay th' blame at me feet like you did, too, but I feel strange an' I want t' talk about it, but not wi' you or Lee. It's too weird t' talk wi' a woman about it."

Mrs. Katan was like a mother to him now? Oh, that stung. But she didn't say anything, though she didn't know why she kept quiet. What a perfect opportunity to crush him further! Perhaps it was because she needed to build him up a bit before she could crush him again. "Come now, Rory, I don't blame you entirely. You were just a bit of a fool." There. She was making him feel better, right? "It might help you to know that young ladies usually have romance on their mind when talking to charming young men. I imagine Lydia assumed you knew why she was interested in you. You assumed Lydia just wanted to be friends. So you both misunderstood and now everyone's miserable." Rory was certainly an awfully strange boy, not recognizing when a girl likes him. "If it helps, there wasn't a single smart move made by anyone involved. That includes Lee."
