Gidget's eyes begin to well with tears. She can empathise with his story. Her parents had died in a terrible accident several years ago. She had been living with her brother until two months ago. If there had been a way to save her parents, like Mr. Ray was talking about, she would have given her left arm for it. She looks at Tansy with loving and amazed eyes, "You'd be a real angel then Tansy. Watching over people when they are in trouble."

Annie imagined all the pain her father still carried with him from the loss of her mother, still years after, but death was a part of life. Frowning she said, "Sir, guys, death is what makes life precious, if people could just cheat death again and again..."
She shook her head, her long brown curls following the movement. "Death is a beautiful thing, like life is. Without shadows there will be no life. Mr. Ray, you are proposing a tremendous thing... and I don't think it is a tremendously good thing."
She hated sounding so negative or dark, but the idea of bringing life back terrified her, and she had grown up believing in reincarnation. Bringing those who are not meant to live back to life would upset the balence of well something, no doubt.

Charles shakes his head, "You misunderstand me Ms. Soulsmith. I am not suggesting that we make people immortal. I agree that death is very much a natural part of life. I am speaking of sudden deaths. Events that steal those we hold dear away from us. There is little that can be done about disease and old age for the time being, but what if the words "fatal" and "accident" never had to be combined again?"

"I still don't agree with it," snapped Annie. "Anyhow, you don't seem like the type of man to just propose such deeds out of the kindness of your heart. What is in it for you if Tansy did have such power and used it to bring people back from 'accidents'?" She knew she was being too bold, but she didn't care at this point.

Gidget gawks at Annie in disbelief. She can't believe that her friend would be so against the idea of saving peoples lives, and question the man who wants to make it happen. She balls her hands into fists and says, "Why are you questioning him? He just wants to save people from the pain of losing the people they love. Why does he have to-"
Charles raises a hand, causing Gidget to pause abruptly. "It's alright Gidget, she has every right to ask questions. What I am suggesting is no simple task." He turns his attention back to Annie and explains calmly, "All I would get from accomplishing this dream is a nobel prize and my name in the history books. But those things pale in comparrison to the satisfaction of saving so many lives that could have be snuffed from this world too soon. Police officers gunned down in the line of duty, sudden infant death syndrome, or parents killed by the ignorance of a single drunk driver. If attended to soon enough, these could become things of the past. I don't want fame or glory Ms. Soulsmith. Awards are a perk that I could take or leave. I just want to end needless suffering in this world."
At the mention of parents being killed by a drunk driver, Gidget huffs and wipes the tears from her eyes. She looks down at the floor of the car, not wanting anyone to see her crying.

Annie took a deep breath, "My mother died when I was one from food poisoning. It isn't that I don't know what loss does to a person, I didn't grow up with a mom and my dad was devestated from the loss... and still is. I just think that sometimes an "accident" is just a part of fate. Changing fate is a dangerous thing. And if anyone should recieve their names in history books and a nobel prize from doing what you propose is Tansy."

Charles smiles, "I couldn't agree with you more. I've been awarded more times that I care. Tansy should receive the credit for providing the research necessary to harness her gift. As far as changing fate goes..." Charles looks outside the window and then turns back to the group, "That discussion will have to wait for the dinner table. We have arrived at our destination."
The driver opens the door and Charles steps out of the vehicle. They stand before a lavish resteraunt called "International Cuisine." Charles takes them in and shows them to his private party room. The room is lined with mahogany and illuminated by cool lighting. The waiters show everyone to their seats and hand them menus. Charles orders his usual Asian cuisine and wine. He smiles broadly and says, "Give them whatever they like. They are my guests here tonight."

Annie looks up at the waiter and asks brightly, "Do you have that Japanese puffer fish stuff that 1 in 80 is poisonous? I'd like some sushi of that... and rare filet mignon, and a basket of croissants and the Classic Cheese Soufflé, and a glass of mineral water."
She smiled largely daring, Charles to challenge her order, and she shrugged, "I get really hungry after my art class is over."

Charles shakes his head and raises a hand dismissively at Annie. He smiles and says to everyone, "Please indulge yourselves. The chefs are more than willing to accept a challenge. I must say Ms. Soulsmith, not many people would be willing to take the risk of eating Fugu. You are quite the bold one."

"Especially considering the fact my mother died from food poisoning, right?" Annie said propping her elbows on the table. "I have never had the chance to try Fugu before, I'm curious how it tastes."

Garret sat, and glanced gratefully at Charles, while scanning the menu. "There are many expensive things on this menu. I Really appreciate this, sir." Garret chuckled at Ann's challenging attitude. He didn't say anything for Ann's sake.
He then turned to the waiter. "I'll get a steak. With mushrooms, onions, and roasted red peppers, medium rare. And as a side, some mashed potatoes and gravy. Smother it in gravy. Just go crazy. Oh, and ill have a some rooot beer. Two large cups." He looked at Anne, with a smile. Garret knew what she wanted us to do. "Oh! I almost forgot the seafood salad."

Annie smiled largely at Garret, pleased that he had picked up on her plan. Her theory is that having to put up with Charles warranted the most expensive items on the menu. She tapped her fingers on the table and addressed Charles, "Mr. Ray, I understand why you are approaching Tansy, but what purpose do you have on treating the rest of us to dinner?"

Charles playfully smirks at Annie, "Does everyone need an ulterior motive when doing something nice for people. The only motive I have to having everyone along is to make her comfortable. I am not clueless to how strange it is to be approached by a billionaire to discuss a personal issue. I am sure Ms. Hinzard was just a bit uncomfortable with the fact that I knew her name when she did not know who I was. The truth is, someone rising from their own grave does not stay quiet for long. Being that I own the building that you all inhabit, word got around to me. I figured she be most comfortable speaking to me with her friends present. Isn't that right Ms. Hinzard?"

Tansy sat without a word and listened to everything around her. They both had points. And at first, she was given to agree with Annie. Death was part of life. And 'freak accidents', in her mind, were never accidents but things of fate. For Tansy strongnly believed that everything in life had a propose. And once that was done, so was their lives. Although she too, had lost both of her parents at a young age, she wouldn't ahve wished for them to be alive this day. True she had lived a hard life, but she wouldn't be the person she was if she hadn't. None of them would have if they people they had lost where still here today. Death built character. and without character, people were bland.
But at the same time... Mr. Ray was right. It would be a great thing for people to have mroe time with thoses they loved, and were taken so quickly from them. Childern who never got to know their parents. Parents who lost a child. The time would only seem sweeter after death's grip had once shadowed them. But at the same time. She wished for no one to go through what she had.
She had yet to tell the others, although the had asked. All she told them was that she didn't remember. But it was a lie. She had seen something. Darkness. The sort that sends chills down ones spine. And haunted her dreams everynight. It was not something most people could go through and come out well. She shivered as she though about how she had wandered through nothingness, wondering what had happened to her and how she had gotten there as she slowly slipped into madness.
She shook her head as the waiter turned to her and cleared their throat. "Oh. Just a cup of clam chowder for me please."

Gidget had pepped up quite a bit since entering the resteraunt. She had never been inside such a lavish establishment before. It absolutely amazes her that such a place can exist inside of their own city.
When the waiter approaches her she beams at him and says, "I'd like a big glass of Pepsi, a grilled chicken sandwich about this big, onion rings, and a big slice of cheesecake with strawberries!"
As the tet a' tet between Annie and Charles continues, Gidget begins to resent her new friend. Her young biased mind can't wrap itself around the idea of bringing someone back from the dead as a bad thing. Why is Annie doing most of the talking anyway? Mr. Ray is interested in Tansy, and is being nice enough to treat everyone to a fancy dinner. These thoughts are soon overpowered by Gidget's curiosity. How could it be possible? Chemicals, nano machines, or perhaps new medical procedures?
