As a medic, Kio had access to the heart rates and other vital information of his fellow soldiers. Sullivan's were off the charts. He turned, and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. He VISR became clear once more. "It's ok." He whispered, letting the radio sent it quietly to her. "I've got a plan." He said, then gently pulled her behind a larger tree.
"I've got this." Kio told her, pulling out one of the Covenant Plasma Grenades. He'd picked it up off a dead grunt after his not so great pod landing. "I'm going to sneak behind the big one, stick it too him, and the grunts should panic. Then, they'll be easy picking." He said, a grin on his face. "I'm going to need you to keep their attention. Sound good to you?"

Private Sullivan, Wren 'Hunter' > ERR.UEG_1707.TIMESTAMP ANOMALY >> Unknown Alien Construct; FOREST
The touch against her shoulder was a bit of a surprise in her current state and Hunter turned her head almost too quickly to face the Corporal, her green eyes widened with panic, but his words were reassuring and comforting. Hunter was able to force herself to calm down just enough to listen carefully and think properly about what he was telling her; she needed to cause some kind of distraction. But what? She supposed that she could be distracting when the time called for it, but never was she used to do such a thing against hostile forces, much less alien hostile forces. Her palms became sweaty. Hunter stared on at the group not far from them and felt her hands weaken against her shotgun as the ape-like creature let out another growling sound, this time far more threatening. The grunts seemed to keep their distance from him as they mingled about the forest.
"...Like what?"
Hunter's eyes once again turned to her superior with innocent questioning. He must have had some idea as for how she would go about distracting the grunts and, if not, well, then that would suck.

Kio paused for a second. "Well.. Distraction usually means... shooting at them." He said, pointing to her gun. "In this case, just make them concentrate on you.. And don't die." His VISR was black, "Wait for my signal." He told her, then moved away. He kept low, carefully watching to make sure he moved only when they weren't looking and distracted. Within a few moments, he'd gone completely around them, to where they were between him and the Private. In his left hand, he held to grenade, in his right was an M7.
"Now."

"But I-"
Having no time to object, Hunter bit her bottom lip, gripped her shotgun tightly against her chest, and moved closer through the thick brush of bushes and dirt. As she inched herself closer to their position she made a note to herself to keep an eye on the big guy. With his height and obvious strength she would be snapped in half in seconds without any time to contemplate on her pitifully short life. The grunts proved hardly a threat and, as she waited for the signal, Hunter felt her adrenaline shoot up. In that instant she heard the ODST over her com and suddenly popped up and out of the bushes like a wack-a-mole.
"Hey! Ugly!"
Her voice elevated through the quiet and over the chatting of the grunts, followed by a loud whistle to further their attention towards her and only her. The ape creature was the first to react and he did so with another one of his brutish noises. The grunts seemed confused in all aspects and, without really putting any thought into it, raised their plasma pistols at the ready and began to shoot sloppily. At the first hostile movement Hunter moved. Against the bark of a large tree she took refuge until the shooting came to a sudden stop. She took this pause to let out an agonizing yell of pain, giving the group a moment of brief triumph. Alive and well she listened as the big guy ordered one of the grunts to check it out and it seemed hours before the sluggish and nervous creature came trudging around the corner. Hunter could hear the shaking of his pistol against his small hands and she realized how silly he was, how silly she was. With the courage that she didn't know she had, Hunter came tumbling out into the open in a ball and, before the grunt knew what had hit him, she collided the butt of her shotgun into head then proceeded to send a shell through the center of his disheveled face.
At this the ape yelled with a ferocity that normally would have sent her fleeing back to where she'd come, but not now. Oh no. Hunter let off another shell into the arm of a grunt that had obviously followed behind his companion, then knocked him to the ground with her the bottom of her left boot. Now all she had to do was keep this up until the ODST stuck the brute with one of the plasma grenade.

"Good girl." Kio said to himself as he quietly moved behind the Brute. He flicked the button on the grenade, feeling the adhesiveness beginning to start. He put two rounds into the back of the ape creatures knee, sending it too the ground, then tagged the back of its skull with the grenade. As Kio moved by the shocked Covenant, he sent three rounds into the third and final grunt. Kio turned triumphantly as the large creature pointed his strange weapon at the ODST. Before it could pull the trigger, it's head and upper torso exploded into a fine mist of tissue and blood. It fell to the ground with a simple plop. The battle was over.

The explosion from the alien grenade surprised Hunter, causing her nerves to move her back a few steps as blood and some tissue splattered against the tip of her boots. She looked down, lifting the shoe up a few inches to examine it, then wiped the remnants of what had once been a wall of sheer brutal force against the wet grass. When she had finished cleaning off her shoe she looked up at her companion, a cocky smile forming on her face. It was odd, but this event seemed just what Hunter needed to loosen her up again and put her back into her childish and playful mood. Quickly she removed her helmet, a sigh of relief escaping her lips. She'd been wanting to get that thing off her head for a while now. Hunter released her short, brown hair from its cage and pushed her side bang from her face as she reached her hand out to the ODST, gesturing for a shake. It would appear that she'd be hangin' around him for a while and she decided she should at least introduce herself properly.
"Name's Hunter."

Kio watched as she removed her helmet and took the opportunity to examine his new found friend. She was green, that's for sure. Newbies are always a little scared until their first real fight, and he could tell she was finally a true soldier. His hands moved to either side of his helmet, and after the release of a few locks, his own helmet came off. For the first time in a few days, his head received a gust of real air, not the conditioned gas his helmet used. He noticed the cooling feel of perspiration on his forehead.
"Kio Liengod." He responded, taking her hand in his, preforming the age old custom of a handshake. "Nice job." He told her, a smile on his face. The bodies around them didn't phase him. He'd been a 'rine for two years, and had already seen this. He ejected the clip from his M7 and loaded more rounds into it. He then put the full clip back into his gun. His first and second encounter with the enemy on this construct had been a successful.
Hopefully, he could keep this up.

"Heh...Thanks."
Hunter moved her right hand to the back of her head, rubbing her throbbing temple lightly. She knew he knew that she had been panicking earlier; anyone could clearly tell that she hadn't been in a calm state of mind. It was no way for a soldier to act and she couldn't help but feel embarrassed. She knew it wasn't a sin to feel like she had felt, but she needed to train herself better so that she would not succumb to such anxiety in the future. Averting her eyes to the corpses behind Kio, Hunter felt sick in her stomach. It wasn't like she had never seen a dead body before, but she was still getting used to it all and making adjustments.
Hunter turned her head away from the grim sight and walked a few paces ahead of the ODST and stopped, her back to him. She closed her eyes and took in a cool breeze that swept past her face and allowed her arms to hang loosely at her sides. Feeling refreshed and calm, Hunter turned her head halfway around to make eye contact with Kio.
"So...Where to now, Corporal?"

Lance Corporal Desmund Cain ERR.UEG_1707.TIMESTAMP ANOMALY Unknown Alien Construct
The familiar ring of a plasma grenade rang through the rocks around Desmund. He ducked quickly, and looked all around him, trying to get a bearing on the direction of the explosion. Where there's an explosion, there's a fight. Where there's a fight, there's friendlies.
He finally decided where the explosion had come from. He began a brisk jog in that general direction. He hung his M7 on his right shoulder, and let it swing back and forth as he strode.
Desmund had been separated from his comrades after they hit land. He decided to take a higher route to cover his squad mates, and got separated by a group of Kig-Yar.
As Desmund rounded a large rocky outcropping, he realized the cause of the explosion. A marine and an ODST stood over a group of mangled Unggoy and half of a strange creature he had never seen before.
Desmund drug his feet, making sure that the soldiers knew he was approaching.
"Lance Corporal Desmund Cain." Desmund announced, as he came to a stop twenty feet behind the ODST. He saw the rank of Lance Corporal on his arm. He pulled up a salute. The ODST's go through way more hell than any marine ever does, so they deserve respect.

The sound of a new voice at the scene pulled Hunter's attention away from the mangled bodies, her eyes immediately locking on to the form of one of their own. Quick to show her own respect, Hunter's right hand went up to salute her superior and remained their as she followed through with an introduction of her own.
"Private Wren Hunter Sullivan, sir."
Easing her right hand down, Hunter allowed it to grab hold of the back end of her shotgun to help support the weight of the weapon. Hunter felt her spirits rise. Now that they had a new addition to their little squad she felt far more relaxed and secure; an ODST and now Corporal Cain. The atmosphere suddenly became more inviting and not-so hostile as it had been earlier. For the first time in hours, Hunter could breath easy, but she made sure not to let down her guard; that grenade could have alerted a number of hostiles of their current location. These thoughts passed through her mind as she held her shotgun, gripping it ever so tightly.

Before Kio could answer, he was alarmed by the sound of footsteps. He pointed his M7 at the Marine for a moment before putting the muzzle down. He was relieved to have another man on their small team. He placed his helmet back into his head, a small click was heard as it locked into place. He returned the salute.
"Lance Corporal Kio Liengod." He responded, then looked back to Sullivan. "Cut the sir. Those are only for NCO's and officers. And most of them will tell you to cut it out." He laughed a bit, remembering when he would call everything that took a breathe sir. "I'm going to check the COM's." He told them, then opened the channel.
"This is Lance Corporal Kio Liengod, ODST Medic, is anyone in the general area, over?"

Hunter had begun strapping her shotgun to her back when she heard Kio's comment. She blushed, realizing that she had been addressing anyone higher in rank than she was as 'sir', or 'ma'am' ever since she enlisted; perhaps she was trying too hard to gain their approval? Whatever it was, having the ODST catch that and point it out so bluntly caused her some embarrassment, but his own laughing eased her feelings and she even began to laugh a bit as well. When she'd finished, Hunter plopped her helmet back over her head with a fake smile, dreading having the thing on again, but knowing that she needed to listen into her com for any incoming signals.

"Sorry. I know the hell you ODST's go through. It's venerable." Desmund said, as he listened to his COM. Static for the moment.
He looked around through the trees. Nothing moved. The rustle of leaves and the slow creaking of branches were the only sounds that penetrated the stillness of the air. Light filtered down through the canopy of leaves, and just below ankle-height grass wavered in the light breeze.
"Regardless, we need to get moving. If I heard that explosion from as far off as I was, then I can guarantee you that someone hostile heard it too. I'm probably just telling you what you already know, though." Desmund said, as he turned back to his newly gained squadmates.

Kumar, Whitney // E-5 > UNSC Iron Sunrise >> Really confused.
After seeing that it was a rock that looked like a person standing still from a distance, Whitney felt kinda stupid. She was confused as to why her helmet told her to go this way, maybe it glitched. She took off her helmet and smashed it against a tree. She then picked it up and put it back on. Amazingly, it worked, the helmet seemed to be functioning properly now. She looked back as Formoe shouted for a medic. She ran over to him, and wondered what the hell was going on. "Rookie, you okay?" She stood over him, a little confused as to why he would be hurt. She decided to try the COM again.
"This is Sergeant Kumar, anyone close by? We need a medic asap!"

It was during Corporal Cain's speech that Hunter began to get something; a voice, although a bit fuzzy, could be heard over her com. She pressed her right hand against the side of her helmet where her ear would be and listened intently. Despite the bad reception, Hunter was able to make out a female voice, a rank and a name, and the word medic. Quickly she replied despite whether or not her other two companions picked up the message.
"Sergeant Kumar, this is Private Sullivan. What are your coordinates?"
