Rory settled one arm around her waist, scooting closer behind her. He tapped the horse's ribs again and set it into a gallop around the corral. His arm tightening around Lee's waist was pretty much all the indication she got before the horse suddenly lept up, all four legs leaving the ground. As it landed, Rory tugged the reins a bit, giving it silent commands. Kettle stopped full and started to do a dance.

Lee'd figured the tightening of the waist was just him getting closer and was in no way prepared for the leap. Her hands bunching up and covering her eyes, she let out a small yelp before the horse landed safely on the ground. Covering her mouth, her shoulders tensed up as the horse started dancing, and she looked back at Rory for a moment, her face full of excitement and joy, though obviously still scared out of her mind of falling off. While it was truly very impressive, she was sure Rory was trying to kill her.

Rory caught the look in her eyes and signaled to the horse to fall back into an easy trot. "Sorry, Lee." His cheeks reddened a bit and he looked down. Tapping his heels against Kettle's side again, he got the horse to go back to the fence. "Here w' are, safe an' sound." He slid off and held his hands up to help her down.

Her hands trembling slightly, she reached down and let herself fall into Rory's arms, though quickly shoved him a bit, half laughing and half shaking. "Ugh. You're terrible." She shook her head, covering her the wide grin on her mouth with her still unsteady hands. "You wanted to kill me, eh?"

"N-nae! I wis just bein' stupid an' tryin' t' show off," Rory said, looking down and feeling even more embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I shouldnae done tha'." He hitched Kettle back to the fence and climbed over it. "I gotta gae get me boots on. Kettle can keep you company." He hurried back off to the stables.

Calming down, Lee just cocked her head and giggled a bit at Rory's misfortune. Her aim hadn't been to make him feel bad, but that didn't mean he wasn't cute when he was embarrassed. Before she could tell him she wasn't serious, he was off toward the stables, and she was left alone with Kettle. Hesitantly, she reached out to the horse, hoping to pet it's side without it biting her hand off.

Kettle snorted a little and looked at the girl, allowing her to pet him. After a moment Rory came back out wearing black leather work boots and a padded leather jacket zipped up over his t-shirt. He climbed back over the fence easily and unhitched Kettle then swung up onto the horse. "Alreet, Lee, you cannae gae wi' me on this now. You can sit on th' fence t' watch, though. If'n you get thirsty or want a snack, Da's got a small fridge in his office. Just gae ask him fae somethin'."
He reined the horse around and galloped off, taking Kettle through the open gate to herd up the horses he would be working with. It took nearly an hour before he returned, moving Kettle about to keep the group of three horses together as he brought them back to the corral. A waiting stable hand closed the gate as Rory brought the horses through. He trotted Kettle back over and slid off, then hitched him to the fence before heading back to the other horses, lasso in hand.

A deep blush formed on her cheeks when she saw how different Rory looked in his work clothes, biting her nails a bit. Lee's sat on the fence, nodding to Rory before he took off, not quite realizing how long it would take. She'd avoid going to the office without Rory, just because she didn't want to make a fool of herself in front of his father. Kicking her feet and shifting her weight dozens of times, her thirst began to grow. She refused to get up and get anything, though, in case Rory came back while she was gone. As another ten minutes went by, her throat felt more dry, and the next ten minutes certainly didn't get better. Sighing as she saw Rory heading back in, she felt terrible that just as he was returning she would be leaving, but she had to get a drink. Sliding off the fence, her legs wobbled a bit at first from sitting for so long, but she soon hurried along the way they'd come, spotting what she assumed was the office and stuck her head inside. "Hello..." she timidly greeted whoever might be inside before stepping in.

Rory's father looked up from reading the newspaper and smiled, remembering seeing the girl when Rory first came up. "Got tired o' waitin' on him t' return wi' th' horses, did you?"

Lee smiled back at the man, fidgeting as she walked father inside, clearly nervous around the man. "Just thirsty is all... Rory said I could get a drink here?"

"Oh, aye," the man chuckled and gestured to the small fridge. "Help yourself, lass."

Lee smiled again and nodded quickly, scurrying over to the fridge and bending down to open it. She mentally debated which she should choose between water and soda, eventually opting for the water for the sake of staying fit. Twisting off the cap, she chugged about a fourth of it immediately and took a breath before chugging more. Patting at her mouth, she looked over to Rory's father with a slight blush, patting at her mouth with the back of her hand. Holding up the water, she uttered a quick "Thanks..." and took another, much smaller drink.

"Take a couple o' bottles wi' you, lass," Rory's father chuckled. "Th' boy's likely t' be thirsty by now, too." He went back to reading the paper, propping one foot up on the desk.

Lee nodded, opening the fridge again and pulling out two more bottles before turning around and heading for the door. Lee waved to Rory's father before closing the door, even though it was likely he didn't see her. Heading back to where she'd been sitting before, she set the two unopened bottles beside the teddy bear next to the fence and hopped back on, taking another sip.

Rory hadn't even noticed she was gone, having been busy breaking in one of the yearlings he'd brought up. He was still wrestling it for dominance when she returned, clinging to it's back expertly as it bucked and reared to throw him off.
