They happen to all be Japanese (I remember because Masanobu Ando, who happens to be hawt is in it). Violence is not the only thing to the movie. Read a review, it happens to have a lot to do with politics.

A law is made to regulate the number of kids in Japan, the BR act. Random classes are chosen once a year to compete in the Battle Royale. They're left on an island to kill each other in a time frame of 3 days or they all die. Only one student is allowed to live at the end of the 3 days or...they all die. So, if your class was chosen to be in this year's Battle Royale, there is barely any chance you will survive.

My uncle had a copy that we borrowed. People that liked Kill Bill might want to note that the girl that played Gogo is in Battle Royale. There's not just asploding though, there's stabbing and shooting and throwing selves off high places and poison and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Gogo is fun and psycho. She's cool. ^.~

Saw an earlier film of that the director of Battle Royal, Fukasaku Kinji, had made that pretty much made him. It was good and interesting and you can see some of the same elements as in Battle Royale like a bunch of text and stuff that pops up everytime someone dies. XD It was interesting though.
