Ura blinked at Lin. "New people at Haven?" he asked. "And you're curious about them and haven't asked any questions?"

Kaito nodded thoughtfully. "I've noticed that you're not asking as many questions as usual as of late," he commented, sounding a little puzzled. "Something happen? Someone bite your head off?"

Lin rolled her eyes, was she really that bad as a child? Actually that was probably a stupid question to ask even if it was just in her head.

"Kaito... do you remember how untackful some of my questions were as a kid? I don't have age or a cute face to hide behind anymore."

Honestly some of the questions she asked made her cringe, it was perhaps the only downfall of remembering everything from when she was a child.

"Anyways, not that asking them would be helpful, Aerin isn't very social and Caranthir dances around any subject he doesn't wish to answer. Not to mention I doubt Caranthir would know how is it Aerin has hair like fire or why she has freckles... and it's a rude question to ask."

Kaito looked at Ura. "I didn't think any of the questions lacked tact," he commented. "Did you?"

Ura shook his head. "If you want to know the answer to something, you'll never learn it unless you ask the question," he pointed out - one of Shiro's favourite sayings. "Really, why is it rude to ask questions?"

"It's prying...." Lin replied.

Honestly she had no problems with questions, but asking personal questions especially around people who were as old as those two wasn't something she was willing to do.

"It's not questions in general Ura, it's the nature of the question. I don't want to accidentally pry into something I shouldn't, and yes it can be rude to ask that. It sounds a bit insulting when someone my age asks a person why their hair is like fire, especially when she's the only elf known to have hair that colour."

How could she explain to the two of them exactly how awkward it was to ask something that use to be so simple when she was a child. Like height or why a person talked the way they did, or something equally blunt. It was fine because she didn't know any better, now it was as if suggesting they were different, in a not so good way.

"Like it seems an innocent enough question. She could come from over seas for all anyone knows, or maybe it's true it's because she's fought so many dragons, but that's prying into her own past, and you don't need a lot of questions to know that there is something about her past. Whatever it is, it has driven her hard, making her agenda very personal. At least it would have to be seeing as she chose not to have true sleep for the past few centuries."

Lin did admit she did want to ask, but for someone unsocial as Aerin.. that might not be easy.

"At any rate the point is, any question about a person themself you have to be careful. Besides... before asking the question to the person, you need to be able to. Timaeus is right... Aerin can be scary... it's like dealing with Aragost all over again. Caranthir is easier but he dances around the question."

Ura frowned. "I don't understand," he said quietly. "If she's the only elf like that, then wouldn't it be natural that people would question it? And if she doesn't want to answer, I'm sure she just wouldn't. That doesn't mean you can't ask. Honestly, Lin, I'm sure people are asking themselves what's happened to you. You used to ask so many questions ... but sometimes it's as if you're a different person. What happened to the curious kid we used to play with?"

From the look on Kaito's face, it seemed as though that was a question that he had also been wanting to ask Lin for a while as well.

"Earendil's got to be at least sixty years old by now," he said softly. "But he still asks questions just like you used to. And even if this woman's agenda is personal and secret, by asking about her appearance you're not really asking for her to reveal any secrets, are you? And same for the other guy. Caranthir, right? If he doesn't want to answer you, he won't - but that doesn't mean you can't ask."

"At least, that's what Ulani always says," Ura conceded.

"It's just awkward alright?"

Honestly Lin didn't know what was the big deal, it was true what they had said, but she would ask on her own time. Honestly, they hadn't seen her when she was at the Eastland, it was amazing she got to see the city at all with the conversations she kept getting into.

"Asking questions about people specifically just has become awkward. It doesn't mean I stop thinking about it, I just am more careful about it."

She didn't want to be like a certain someone she knew. She just wanted to be pragmatic, was that such a problem?

"Do you realize they've been speaking English to you and you're still using that funny language?" Senka interrupted though her eyes were still closed.

"It's not funny, learn it."

Kaito winced, but Ura just shrugged. "Whatever you say." He didn't want to get into an argument.

Kaito chuckled at Senka's comment. "I guess once you start speaking a language with someone in a full conversation, it's just natural that you would keep using it. I've done that a time or two."

He glanced back over at Earendil and Shiro. "Though I'm wondering now if someone should say something," he murmured. "At this rate, they'll be at it all day until Shiro's making as many maps as Earendil."

It sort of reminded Lin of a particular weaponmaker.... now he was an interesting fellow.

"Though it's kind tempting to see how long they can go on," Lin murmured in a bit better mood now that the two dropped the subject.
"At least be kind enough to stop them before we miss lunch," Senka pouted, giving the two a look.
"You and food...."

Though she did realize quite good amount of time had passed.

"How long have you two been standing here?"

The two nekos exchanged glances, and Ura turned back to Lin and shrugged. "Few hours," he guessed. "We haven't really been paying attention. You were off with Sir Valdemar, and Shiro and Earendil are still as into their talk as they were at the beginning ... and you know Shiro won't stop with his questions until he knows everything he wants to know ..."

Kaito nodded. "So we really have no idea," he agreed. "It could be near lunch, but it might not be. Can't trust our stomachs, obviously the time we arrived and the time we're used to aren't the same yet. Though I'll admit, I'm hungry," he grinned.

"And I don't know if Earendil has gotten into the habit of missing meals since he started this," Lin murmured thoughtfully, "We should see if it's close to lunch then... I don't think we ate much at breakfast. Probably should poke them to remind them we're all still here."

Out of the corner of her eye she saw Senka crouching down, with her butt wiggling humourously up in the air. Her position was directed at the two men talking.

"I said poke, not pounce."

The men were further away, but Senka was not on the ground so she could make a good glide to where they were.... though Lin didn't trust her not to knock anything over.

Ura rolled his eyes at Senka and muttered, "Kitten," under his breath, then headed over to Shiro and Earendil and tapped both of them on the shoulders. "Don't suppose you can tell us if it's lunch time yet," he grinned at them cattily.

Shiro blinked and turned to Earendil, smiling ruefully. "Yes ... the time difference and all, I'm hungry too," he admitted. "I hadn't realized it until now. Is it time for lunch?"

The prince chuckled. "Aye, it's time," he agreed. "I always lose track of the time when I get into something. Come on then, and then this afternoon we can prepare for our trip and hopefully by tomorrow morning be ready to leave."

Senka stuck her tongue out at Ura as he passed, she had heard that! She was a cat after all her hearing was just as good as (if not better in her opinion than) any neko's.

Lin sighed as she picked up her cat, even without the size Senka did seem like a kitten at times.

"That sounds good," Lin told the two as she cradled the cat to keep her out of trouble.

Lunch passed quickly. The afternoon was spent preparing for the journey, and even Earendil was too busy to spend any time in his study, besides gathering the necessary maps that they would be taking with them. Regan was put to bed early, and Tinuviel and Aranel retired early as well, though Earendil spent a bit longer talking with Lin and Sir Valdemar about the route. Even the three nekos went to bed early - but with the difference in time between the two worlds, that was to be expected.

Early in the morning, before the sun was even up, those who were going on the trip were already awake, had eaten breakfast, and led out to the stables where they would receive the horses that they would ride on their trip.

"Have you been on a long horseback ride before?" Earendil asked Lin as they all tied on their packs into the saddlebags and prepared to mount.

"Yes," Lin replied as she made sure everything was secure, she even had a bag just for Senka to ride in so she wouldn't bother anyone or the horse for that matter, "It was a long while ago though."

Even though she knew it didn't seem that too long ago since she went with her father and the others. Though this was going to be far more enjoyable, she didn't enjoy hunting down slavers even though she felt the deserved it.

Earendil nodded and moved to give Lin a leg up onto her horse, seeing as the horse had been bred for size, and she was so small. "I hope you're ready for some blisters," he smiled ruefully. "Unless you grew callouses that haven't yet gone away. Second day will be the worst, but by the time we leave Uncle Gion's, you should be fine for more travel. Just letting you know so that you don't feel as if you're the only one. Shiro and Kaito and Ura I'm sure will be going through much the same thing."
