Haha. While I'd appreciate the training, I very much hope I never have to pilot an AT. Not my cup of caf, if you know what I mean.

Tahnk was doing his very best to make a good first impression of his new CO. Although by no means was he a kiss a**, he knew it was important to show the ability to be friendly and cooperative.
And although he tried not to show it, he was itching to see that hangar, with all it's beautiful steel birds.

"Oh no, we won't be driving those horrid walkers," Xaver assured him, stepping into the main lift, and keying the button for the main hangar, sending the pair shooting downward. "I meant the craft that ferry them to the surface. The Captain wants all pilots to be certified to fly all spacecraft. Besides, I don't think we'll be needing any of the walkers, what with our depleted armed forces..."

Oh, that's a relief.

The normally short ride on the lift seemed unnaturally long today.

Though, it seems such a shame to let firepower like that go to waste. Oh well, I suppose that's non of my concern.

Tanhk did bring up a good point though. All of those AT-ATs and AT-STs were heavily armed, far more so than an XG-1. If someone could find a way to scrap them for parts, and hardwire their guns to the XG-1s, Bombers, or Assault Shuttles...

Xaver shivered. That was a lot of firepower. A full power blast from an AT-AT Cannon could annihalate an entire bulding the size of a planetary shield generator, or so he remembered reading back at the Academy. They were certainly be more than enough to handle any shielded starfighter.

The only problem was the power requirements. But that wasn't his concern.

In no time the lift ended, opening up to reveal the massive hangar bay. Ships filled it's cavernous hold, with repair crews and personnel running around everywhere. At one corner Xaver spotted the open door, leading to the training room. Leading the way, Xaver led the Kel-Dor over to this door on the other side, and took a seat at the table, waiting for the class to begin.

((Hooking those guns up to starfighters is almost certainly a no go... mounting them in the flank trenches and slaving them to the other guns however would be quite possible. Maybe we'd actually have something to shoot down starfighters with that way.))

The door opened with a hiss and a naval lieutenant clad in a simple civilian cut tunic of the sort that screamed Alderaanian fashion stepped into the room and glanced around at the thirty odd pilots sitting in the room. He smiled faintly as he stepped up to the podium in the center of the room.

"Alright, the captain has ordered me to teach all you folks how to fly our most powerful starfighter. The GAT-12h Skipray Blastboat. For those of you unfamiliar with this craft, its a miniaturized capital ship with a crew of five. It has turbolasers, a concussion missile launcher, a proton torpedo launcher, and ion cannons. For those of you who are fighter jocks you'll be a little let down in terms of its maneuverability but I think you'll enjoy the dramatic increase in firepower that the ship affords its crew."

A holographic display lit up in the front of the room and an image of the ship's cockpit lit up the room, "Now... how to fly this demon..."

Mynock Two sat in the hangar bay beside the Stormtrooper Transport that'd be their shuttle to the Modular Conveyor. As he sat there a second man approached wearing the insignia of a naval lieutenant and the uniform of ship's nurse. "Lieutenant Lor Datan reporting."

Mynock Two nodded, "Lets get this show on the road." The boarding hatch for the transport hissed open and he climbed in.

The Tibana coolant was quickly replaced back into the Hyperdrive, allowing for a slightly greater range. However, without the proper parts, the best the ship could do was limp along through hyperspace.
Hal growled irritably, crammed into one of any number of maintenance hatches fiddling with wires. Currently he was attempting to automate some of the systems to drop crew strain down, though engineering was still straining as it was.
He got jolted for the umpteenth time to day and cursed, getting more irritable by the second.
"Aam nae gettin' paid enaw fur thes."

"Considering we're not getting paid at all, I agree." Captain Pala's voice echoed down the maintenance shaft. "How's it going, Chief?"

"Slaw." He grumbled as he worked. "We're still limited tae a quarter ay uir lightyear range wi' th' drife, we're runnin' behin' oan maintenance, an' thes nebula is playin' heel wi' uir scanner equipment, slowin' doon uir ability tae fin' an' fix problems."

"At least we're alive. Just hold her together. You'll figure a way round these troubles, same as always." Captain Pala shrugged, "Geez, you complain no matter the problem. I'm headed up to the bridge, you need anything just call." With that the Twi'lek turned and headed for the turbolift.

"Buck ye, huir." Was the surly engineer's only reply to the Captain's statement about his complaints.
He focused back on his work, now starting to get creative with electrical tape.

The training session was a long one.
The instructor was making sure that they new every single bell and whistle in the rig. From the 2.0 hyperdrive, to the twin laser cannons, to a small spot-weld under the sensor operators chair.
The Skipray was indeed no large vessel and by no means was it maneuverable, but the instructor was right about the ship's pure offensive power making up for that. It was looking like the blastboat really was a capital ship smashed into a 5-man package.
Tahnk was liking this ship and that made him eager. He raised his hand with a question, thanking his breather for hiding the excitement in his voice.

Sir, will we be doing any hands-on training?

The instructor smiled, "Of course, I've got a busy twenty-four hours ahead. I'll be taking you out in groups of four in the Skipray, each of you will get forty-five minutes at each position onboard to familiar yourselves with the vessel. It's not much but its all the time we have. We don't have a Blastboat simulator, but one of the AT-AT simulators has been reprogrammed to function as one."

Ranlee slept fitfully in the chair aboard the bludgeon for an hour while the other spacetroopers finished their assignments, being first in her class in zero-g operations had its benefits, chief among them being able to have time to relax after a job is completed. However the crackle of the com woke her from here slumber.

"Gundark two, I'm finished though I'm not sure this crest is big enough to keep a trigger happy rebel from blasting at us."

It sounded as if there was some soft laughter in the control room. "Roger two, we didn't have enough paint for anything bigger."

L.T. leaned back and closed his eyes, "The captain wants you to train those bikini troopers, and when the order cam through it sounded like she was pretty serious."

"I know," Ranlee answered. "I guess I'll get to it once you land this bucket."

"Gundark two here, we're in." The com crackled for a moment as L.T. turned the shuttle toward the hangar. A moment later they were down and Ranlee stepped out into the hangar bay.

"I guess I better get to it then, no rest for the wicked." Ranlee sighed as she looked around the bay for the femtroopers. She spun on L.T. as he started down the ramp, "Not so fast, I'll need you for this."

L.T. just sighed, "I'm never going to get a good sleep again am I?"

Xaver was satisfied. 45 minutes at each of the stations sounded easy, especially since most of them were gunners. The hardest part would be piloting the ship, since that was where most of the scanners and sensitive equipment would be, far more than on the XG-1.

In all, he was looking forward to it.

Darkness faded into a dull grey then to red as light filtered through closed eyelids. Sound went from blissful silence to a dull roar as the world around Cassandra roused her from sleep. Blinking her eyes at the bright lights and lulling her head from side to side to take in what scenery she could through her fuzzy haze. Filled beds to either side of her and a plastic tube stuck to her arm told her that she had been found and brought to the med bay before she had succumbed from her injuries. People move just out side of her field of view and stair at her bandaged hand as she wondered why her depth perception was off when she tried grabbing for a passing med tech.

"Alright, Mynock Squadron is going first... grab your gear and meet me in hangar bay one. Everyone else, your times are posted in the briefing room." The Instructor smiled as he stepped down from the podium and started heading toward the door.
