The softness of Anolani's voice and mien once again dulled the edge of Rose's discomfort. She still didn't exactly feel calm, but this was... a nice chaser to the shock of her awakening.

And then the woman displayed in no uncertain terms exactly how protective she could be... either that, or the degree of auditory seclusion to which she was accustomed. Rose, too, had hardened her gaze to one of steel the moment it was intimated that she might betray the Cabal and whipped her head towards the perpetrator, but nothing she had planned to say came close to Anolani's soft-spoken promise. It put Rose in an awkward position, because her senses actually could pick up on what was being said fairly clearly, despite eves-dropping being the subject of disfavor. Despite that, a small, predatory smile appeared on Rose's face. It always got a pleased growl out of her throat to watch one person assert dominance over another, especially if the former was someone she recognized as a personal superior.

Taking comfort in Anolani's manner, Rose kindly nodded at the other girl as she came over. "To answer you, I don't... want to betray the Cabal. Never. I was... upset, was all."

It took every ounce of control that Jennifer possessed to keep from hurting the woman--Anolani-- as she wrapped her arms around her neck. Throwing her would have been nice; she knew several very painful ones that she could have pulled off from that position. She could have gone the simpler route and simply broken the woman's arm. Anolani's breath stirred a loose, floating curl of red gold as she whispered into Jennifer's ear, and she thought about just breaking her nose. CRUNCH.

She knew that tone of voice; he was telling her to get herself under control. She didn't care. She was shaking with anger. I'm going to burn this b***h into a lump of charcoal.

No. She dies. Screaming. I am not going to put up with this s**t.

F**k the job.

I'll kill them too.

Who said I was using magic?

<... Listen to yourself. Honestly.>

He had a point and she knew it. Damn him. Even if she could take Anolani, who would probably be defended by her little friend, everyone else would be on her in a second. Less than. So she held still, though she continued to tremble with rage, and waited for the woman to step back. A few moments later, she did.

Jenny spun on her, hazel eyes suddenly much more green than brown, and her lips peeled back from her teeth in a silent snarl. She was-- at the very least-- going to punch the woman. In the face. See how pretty those exotic features were when decorated with a vivid black eye.

Surprisingly, it was the teenager that snapped her out of it a bit. She blinked and looked at Rose, her hackles going up again a bit at the sight of the smug little smile on the younger girl's face. "That wasn't," she said, her tone a low, "What I asked. I said it sounded like you wanted to kill them. Like you hated them. Passionately. Clearly you don't plan to betray them, or you wouldn't be here. They do their research. Thus my curiosity. It's strange to be loyal to someone you hate."

Slowly, she turned back to Anolani, smiling a small, cold smile. "I'm pretty new at this," she said evenly, though that rage was still bubbling underneath, "So I'm not sure how I would actually hold up in a fight against any of you. However, if you touch me again, I'm going to break your right arm. Every bone in it. Maybe you'll hurt me as well; as I said, I'm not familiar enough with the logistics to judge. But your right arm will get broken." It wasn't a threat; it was a statement. She meant every word of it, too. "Now. Did you say something about breakfast?"

<... You are. Such. A charmer. Good God, WHY did I end up with YOU?!>

SHUT IT.

"It's not as strange as you think," Victor said lazily from across the room. "Obeying someone you hate. Ever heard of Abaddon?" He yawned and went back to chewing a fingernail.

Anolani's eye twitched. Good God, did EVERYBODY have an eavesdropping habit? It's okay. At least we're learning about who the curious ones are right now. I haven't said anything that could make people curious. She sat back down and listened to the response threat.

"Duly noted about the arm." This was quite the angry girl. Anger issues much?. At least she had a little bit control - that was good. "As for food, it's in that room," she pointed. "Once you grabbed some, we can chat some more."

Rose found herself quelling a snarl at Jennifer's reaction. Somewhere in the back of her head, it occurred to her that it was likely not a good idea to develop rivalries between the few women onboard this early, but that took second place to defending Anolani against an upstart, however unlikely it may have been that Anolani needed such defense.

"I'm loyal because they provide a home, and safety, and members of my own species. They anger me for reasons that are my own." She regretted the words the instant they left her mouth, but it couldn't exactly be uncommon for a member of the Cabal to disagree with some of their policies, right? It was... still an unpleasant position.

Jenny shot a half-annoyed, half curious look at Victor. "No, I--"

Then Anolani spoke, indicating where the food was. This woman certainly was a cool customer, Jennifer silently admitted with a certain grudging respect. She wished that she was capable of holding onto her temper that way...

As somebody else apparently did. Jenny looked over at Rose, who was obviously upset, defensive, and regretting her words moments after they left her mouth. Jennifer found herself smiling-- a small smile, but a genuine one nonetheless. Seeing actual emotion in those big doe's eyes--even if it was all negative emotion-- was a relief, somehow. She quickly wiped it off her face; she didn't want the girl to think that she was laughing at her. "Of course it is, девочка; as I said, I was simply curious." Holding up one finger in a silent, 'Wait a moment' gesture, she walked into the room that Anolani had indicated to check out the food.

Anolani nodded as she watched Jennifer walk out to get food. "She's a charmer," she said sarcastically. She said it lightly to show that she was only kidding around, and that she meant no harm to the other girl. Well, other than the threat.

Her smile soften as she looked over at Rose. "Everybody has something that they dislike about Cabal. It's the same everywhere, I suspect." She returned to playing with the werefox's hair. She's got such pretty hair.

As they waited for Jenny to return, Anolani wondered about her first impression. Very temperamental. But she has control. Hates being threatened, something that I can understand. I'd have reacted the same. She could respect Jenny; it was just a matter of whether they could look past the threats they just gave each other. That was a rather bad introduction on all our parts. Perhaps the two could be friends. It'd take a while probably, but Anolani wouldn't mind having Jenny as a friend. I guess we'll see how she reacts.

Less than a minute later, Jennifer came back, her plate divided into surgically neat portions of food. Eggs and two strips of bacon for protein, lots of fresh fruit (a few slices of pineapple, several strawberries, and a banana), and some yogurt. A plain glass of water was gripped in her other hand. She'd built a soldier's breakfast, completely balanced, and had done so on a completely unconscious level. She sat down next to Anolani, making sure to move slowly and give the other woman plenty of space, and started eating. Her bites were just as neat as the plate. "So," she said after a few chunks of pineapple, "You're an elementalist. What's your focus?" Her tone was pointedly polite, but there was definite interest in it, as well.

Morgan downed the remainder of his bottle to hide a grin. Nothing in this world so beautiful as women fighting for dominance. Nothing.

Anolani watched Jennifer eat carefully. "I'm not at all sure that you're comfortable around me." Like that wasn't obvious enough. "Even if I were to tell you about myself, I'm not all that sure you'd do the same for me. Perhaps the threats we traded will prevent any honesty from occurring..." She half-grimaced at the thought. "Still, I'd like to move past that and try to be honest. Working together would benefit us all."

She gave a half smile. "I am best with water. Wind and earth are evenly matched. I'm terrible with fire. What about you?"

She wanted to drink some more coffee, but she sadly realized that she'd run out. Oh well. I wonder if Rose would mind me stealing a bit of her apple juice.

Jennifer snorted inelegantly. "I'm not comfortable around you. I want to punch you in the face. That should be incredibly obvious. However, we're stuck together on a ship. A big ship, but a ship. Finite space and all." She shrugged. "That, and you're the first other elementalist I've met. This whole thing is pretty new. If I can learn from you, I will. My personal feelings about things are completely secondary." She took a few thoughtful nibbles off of the bacon. "I'm best with both fire and wind. Pathetic with earth, and even more pathetic with water." She grimaced at the very thought and poked irritably at her glass before grabbing it and taking a sip. In addition, she was working on lightning, and wanted that to be her main focus, but she wasn't sure that she wanted to tell Anolani that.

Alden? Do you think she's lying? ... Silence. Was he honestly not speaking to her? How ridiculous was that? Anyway, she didn't think the other woman was lying. What purpose could it serve? Besides which, she vaguely remembered Victor saying something about her focus being water.

Johnstone chose this moment to return. It had been an unusually long time since he had gone down to get the food; as a matter of fact, he had gotten side-tracked looking for another restroom and had spent much longer than he had intended to wandering around, not even bothering to read the signs. Just get a feel for the nearer sections of the ship, figure out where things were one door at a time. Then he had gone back for breakfast, just as Jennifer had left.

Now he entered the room, one hand balancing a well-stocked plate of food with drink balanced on top, the other busy absent-mindedly twirling a pen between his fingers. He had seen that there was someone else in the food replicator's room, but he hadn't assumed she would be here.

"I miss anything?" he inquired, leaning against the doorway and pocketing the pen in order to begin breakfasting.

Right. Straight-up asking probably wouldn't do a lot of good, but I'll watch her.

Look at the build. She's fit. Probably a brawler or something, although that doesn't really qualify you for this, so...

Right. Soldiers we are, but soldiers we were not always.

Anolani nodded. "Interesting. Our focuses are the complete opposite." I'm not a fan of fire. Wind would be a good element to work on together. "I know a bit of hand-to-hand combat, but I'm not very good with it. How about you?" She turned to give a smile to Rose. "Speaking of hand-to-hand combat, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me out later with some training? I'd greatly appreciate it." She knew the werefox was a physical fighter. I really don't want to have rely on my second talent if I am ever without my elementalism.

She wondered whether it'd be best to tell the girls about her second specialty. She was a master at poisons and it amplified the deadliness of her water manipulation. In fact, because of the training hell she'd gone through, her blood was toxic. S'what I get for gaining total immunization. Meh. I doubt either of them are ever going to draw blood from me. If they do, I can just tell them then.

"I'm alright," Jenny replied absently, taking a slow, thoughtful bite out of a strawberry, "Some martial arts." She was more than alright; she was spectacular at hand to hand, and her marksmanship was just as good. Potential Shadowmen were expected to be the best or get the hell out. She wanted to keep that as a trump card if she could, though. ... Speaking of which, where the hell are my guns? That was an unpleasant thought. Jennifer was very attached to her guns. More to the point, she needed them if she was going to keep up with these magic users; her own magic wasn't up to par as of right then, and she knew it.

Pushing that thought away, she looked at the werefox girl with interested eyes. Was Rose a physical combatant, then? Maybe all were-people were; she wasn't exactly familiar with the subject. She had to take a large bite of scrambled eggs to keep herself from asking what styles the younger girl preferred.

Feeling very interested, if slightly out of place, Rose listened to the other two women chat about their elements. Neither was interested in letting out the whole truth, it seemed, although it was good to know that they complemented one another, despite compliments being out of the question for the moment. It was odd that Jenny would say she was only "alright" with martial tactics; it was clear from her physique that she was athletic for one reason or another, and it was rare to take up a sporting hobby and not apply that strength to something combat-worthy.

"I fight with steel claws on my hands and feet," she answered calmly, ignoring Johnstone, who appeared not to have chosen a target for his leech-like question, "which means that capoeira is more effective for me than it would be for other people. Other than that, I mostly use what works." Her focus fell through the floor in front of her for a moment, and then she smiled lightly. "Werebeasts aren't much for defined forms."
