Thali sighed, and shook her head. "Just to elves." She said. "He didn't know I was one until after got married--so.. Yeah. He's kicked me out a few times." She shrugged, as if she was used to this kind of behavior.

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝Vate began to feel as if his blood was starting to boil. "He kicked you out?" he asked, shocked. He never understood humans, how they can appear to be so friendly and helpful, but when someone different arrives, they're completely rude. ❞

"Yeah." Thali said with a shrug. "You get used to it when you're around it, trust me." She muttered. "Last time he did--I thought for sure I'd be a popsicle by the time he let me back inside. See--it was ice-and snow that time. But I just ended up being sick." She said it lightly, as if it were no big deal. Her eyes told the real story.
A sick elf was serious business--they rarely got sick. When they did--they got it bad.

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝Vate didn't give his input on her marriage, because he knew that Thali can love someone no matter what they do. Taking the book, he said, "I don't understand you sometimes." He opened the class door, and paused so Thali could leave first. "Thank you for your help, I think I can handle the class now." ❞

Thali frowned slightly. "Can't I stay and help?" She pleaded. "I don't have a class for another hour and--" She frowned slightly. "If Ben sees me, he'll just yell at me again." She paused, and looked at her long time friend. "Come on. I know a lot about computers. I could help. Please?"
She didn't mention that she knew Ben was waiting out the door to yell at her.

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝With a small sigh, Vate thought it over. He didn't start class until tomorrow, what time would be wasted? He carefully looked out the door, to find Ben standing at the end of the hall. His arms crossed, he examined a few posters and student art work on the walls, but had an expression to show that he was waiting for Thali.
Vate shut the door. "Okay." he replied, and sat next to Thali. "Teach me some more information about this. . . Computer." ❞

Thali gave a sigh of relief, and leaned against her chair. "Thank you." She breathed. She genuinely looked grateful, she clearly didn't want to be yelled at again. "Oh.. Well, mostly I use the computer to write." Thali said, with a light smile. "I've been writing stories about our adventures when we were younger." She said, with a wistful look, as if she wished they could do that again.
"So, what do you want to know?" She asked. "I've shown you the basics--you want to learn how to play games on it?"

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝"Writing stories?" Vate asked, interested. He knew that Thali liked to write, and she being a teacher rather than an author did surprise him. "Are you going to publish them?" ❞

Thali blushed. "Well, I don't know if they're good enough to be published.." She started. "And I didn't know if you'd like that... Would you like to read some? I have them here, if you like."
She handed him a notebook, neat, though thin and spidery, hand writing filled the pages. "Mostly, they're about us." She said, with another blush. "There's some about Jacen too."

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝Carefully, not wanting the notebook to fall apart, Vate took the notebook from Thali's hands. He flipped the cover, reading the first page. Already he was grinning, being brought back to memories of him, Thali, and Jacen as kids. The three used to get in trouble constantly in Lynwood. When the boys weren't busy pulling pranks on Thali, the three always explored the giant city, finding new ways to get around and things to do. ❞

"Like it?" Thali asked, watching her friend. She moved closer to him, so she could read over his shoulder. She smiled. "I remember that." She said. "You and Jace were teasing me. So I hid in the library. Dad got mad at us, remember?"

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝ Vate nodded. "And you built that fort out of books, hoping that we wouldn't get to you?" he replied. "Your father was quite furious over that. We had to go all over the library to place the books back because of you."❞

Thali frowned at that memory. "I wasn't meaning to get you in trouble." She nudged him with her elbow. "If Dad had let me, I would have helped you." She paused. "Turn the page, it gets better."

Brandy ✖ Jean ❝Vate turned a page, and in the center, was a drawing of all three of them as children. Thali's mother requested the royal artist to draw a picture of Thali and her friends, for memory's sake. Rather than looking stoic like in human portraits, the elves were encouraged to appear happy in drawings. The three, with big-shining eyes, sat together appearing to be the best of friends. Written around the picture, was another story.❞

Thali smiled at him, and looked at the picture. "I remember when Mom had the artist draw that." She said. "I don't think we'd ever sat that long before. We were always causing trouble and running around--" She grinned at him. "You were always chasing me." She said. "That's how you got so good at finding me when I left."
