I got my period the week before I turned 15 (First May last year) I was completely prepared for it. It was only light at first and I had pads in my bag. Then I didn't get my next one for 14 weeks. The next few where regular, then there was one only two weeks after the previous one. That was in September. I got my period back about early March. I think it went on hiatus. I was so glad. No period for all of summer. It was awesome. Although I was sort of worried too. My next three periods only had two weeks between each other. Then this one I'm on now came about a month after the previous one. So it's all good.
I hate pads. When I had the three periods with two weeks gaps it gave me a rash from the rubbing on the inside of my legs. So I tried a tampon one day. I ended up taking it out after about three hours. I don't think I put it in properly. It was still sort of sticking out and I kept having to push it back in. I know I should have taken it out and tried again with another one, but by the time I realised that it was uncomfortable I wasn't at home anymore, so I couldn't put in a new one. I took my mom's pad. I'm going to get mum to buy me some smaller tampons soon.
My second period was an interesting story. It came about 14 weeks after my first ended. I was on a school camp. This one day I had been knocked over and pinched a nerve in my arm and had excess fluid. It was really painful. We had a TV in the room next to where we were sleeping so we were watching it. I fell asleep while watching TV even though my arm was very painful. I woke up in the middle of the night and really needed to pee. But my arm was so sore that I didn't seem to be able to move my whole body (it seems like I'm exaggerating, I know, but I'm not). So I was lieing on the lounge, in the middle of the night for about ten minutes really needed to pee, and having a very sore arm. I think I was crying too, like not crying crying, but eyes watering a fair bit frustrated type crying. Eventually I managed to get up and make my way to the bathroom. I saw a small red spot on my underwear. It was very small but I still knew what it was. I went into the bedroom and rummaged through my bag, while trying not to wake any of my friends, I found the pad and went back to the bathroom and put it on. I wanted to sleep in my bed. But one of my other friends had claimed it, so I went back to the lounge where my pillow and sleeping bag where and fell asleep after a while.
Oh, and by the way, I'm turning 16 in May. I was a late starter with my period, it started the week before I turned 15.

It was during the summer of 07 and I was 12. I woke up and I had really bad cramps. My mother asked me where I had them and I told her in my back. She told me to go check it and I screamed when I saw the blood; (I had cramps and my period for an hour and didnt even think of looking.) I put a pad on and last time I had my period I got FINALLY relaxed enough and used a tampon

I was 13 (I'm 27 now) and I honestly don't remember what happened when I got my period!
I don't use tampons. I don't think they're healthy. I use an alternative, a MoonCup (other brands include the DivaCup, Keeper, and Lady Cup).

I was 9 (now 21). I was watching tv with my family. I went to use the restroom and I saw blood on my underwear. I called my mom in and she said "ohh. you started your period" then my older sister came in. She said "you're becoming a woman!" I started to cry because I was getting old.

I was 11 [now 17], and it was the end of the sixth grade year. Everytime I went to the bathroom I noticed brown spots in my panties. I had no idea what it was, I thought I was leaking bowels or something. I went to a friend's and got really sick. Like, headaches, I couldn't see straight, and I was cramping...only I thought it was my stomach.
I went home and laid down on the couch until I had to pee. When I went..there it was. Blood. Bright red. Luckily, there was ONE pad in the house. My mom wasn't having a period, my sister wasn't old enough so..you know how that goes.
I called my mom and told her I started my period. She stared balling and said, "You're a young woman now!" I was like..WTF?
But I don't have periods now. I'm pregnant. :3

I was in 9th grade. I got bad mood swings and it made it hard to focus on school >_< They were terrible at the beginning because I hadn't learnt to handle them yet. But I was okay and I got good grades so smile
Oh, and at first I thought I had s**t my pants because it was very, very brown x__x I told my mum I kept on leaking poop and at the evening there was one droop of red blood so I was like "Now I'm bleeding too!" and my mother then told me it was probably my period.

I feel so lucky after reading these. I'm 13 1/2 and still haven't had my period yet. Hopefully, I won't get it anytime soon, especially on vacation because I don't want to have to use a tampon right off the bat just to go swimming. Well, I'll be posting here when I do have mine, and thanks to everyone who posted their stories. smile

I was 13 when I started my period. It was actually about 3 days after my sister's birthday which is only 10 days after mine, so here I am, a newly 13-year-old. Now the day before I saw that the discharge had gotton that brown color but I didnt really take a care and just went on with my life. The next night, i went to the restroom and my panties were drenched in blood (how did i not feel that?)
I sort of freaked out, I didnt know what to do. I did get a new pair of panties and my family were all down stairs watching Marry Poppins (dont ask how i remember this) and I was just on the top of the stairs trying to make up what I was going to tell my mother. So I finally picked up my courage and went down stairs and went to my mom and whispered in her ear, "Mom, I think I started my period." She looked at me and huged me (akward) and let me to her bathroom and haned me a pad.
The rest of my family didnt find out about my period until a few months later. *points and laughs at them for their lack of information*

I was 12...I got it on my mom's birthday. I changed my underwear and then I'm like, "Uh....mom?" And I showed her my stained ones and she went "ohhhhhhhhhh." And it was like someone put a spell on her. Her eyes were sparkling and she had the biggest smile. Then she hugged me and started to cry, saying I'm not a girl anymore...and then I'm like, "Mom? Uh, I'm kinda bleeding here,"
Good times, good times.

well I was 12, and in 7th grade, October 18th I think, and in the morning I went pee, and when I wiped there was blood. so I was like "aw, s**t." and I told my mom and she started crying and was like "you're growing up!" xD
I've always been really regular, which is good! I've had it for a little less than a year. I don't like it usually. :[

I was 13 and in the 8th grade.
I started the day after Christmas, I woke up and looked down and low and behold blood. Well I didnt know what to do, I had no clue how to put on pads or where they even were in my moms house.
So i laid in bed awkwardly for 2 hours till she got up and I could tell her.
All and all it wasn't that eventful or embarrassing.
