Another project created, another done and ready. Sitting on the desk, next to a pile of various charges, a small device of similar size lays in wait. Designed to emit a reiatsu signature- in this case his own, it can serve as a decoy. Perhaps not very damaging, but definitely a setup for other attacks. Charles smiles as it would work especially well with the kyakko, a favorite bakudo of his. Still, other designs come to mind, and he begins both design and work on assembly of another system.
"Simple scanning equipment . . . sonic emitter . . . a few sensors- three, yes! Now, some remote control systems . . . " Based on natural harmonics, he begins a system to subtly change things up. Explosions without explosives. At the top of the page for his sketches of both some sort of disk and almost kunai-like spikes is written 'S.H.O.D. & D.A.R.T.'

The SHOD and DART construction proves to be a challenge . . . the primary unit doesn't seem difficult, but calibrating the three input sensors to a single frequency quickly does take a bit of creative wiring. Still, Charles manages to get it done. The DARTs are a bit harder, as he struggled to find a sonic emitter that would vibrate the spike, but not lose effectiveness. A long time of creation later, he finds his desk littered with parts and plans, and a pair of systems. Two disk-like SHOD units, like doubly thick frisbees; eight kunai shaped spikes with an internal set of parts sealed by a seamless piece of metal. To make this all work, Charles ignores his fatigue and keeps working on a wrist-mounted control device. Ten lights with two colors each for indicators, and two buttons. For now, he will simply use a single frequency to power them, and soon he will have to test the range.
Still, before that can happen, he needs a distribution system. The disks are too large for much beyond a simple holster on the back, but the DARTS are different. Using a simple system, Charles creates a leg holster, one that fits on his thighs. Each one holding four DARTS, he has a barrel aimed downward. While slightly awkward, this could be a nice surprise. Sensors set on his hips will serve as triggers, with barrels down his thighs under his clothes. The longer barrel allows for accuracy, and with his visor uplink he can paint targets and spacial orientation can keep track. Yes, this can work out well.

Now upgraded with his sonic disruption system, loaded with explosive charges, and his iaijutsu booster, Charles feels far more prepared than he was before time in this lab. Still, one project gnaws at his mind. As he upgrades his visor to link with a heads up display system for his weapons and perhaps even the systems of the lab, his hands work more or less absently. The idea of his personal project keeps coming up- but no matter how many ways he approaches it, the issue keeps becoming too complex. A few times he even had to backtrack and repair a poor connection on his visor, so distracted is he.
When finally done, Charles puts his visor on, and with a minor click, a heads up display gives basic information on his field of vision. With an absent smile, he deactivates the interface, and then goes on to work with some cloth and minor sensors to create gloves to control his sonic and explosive toys. This is far easier, and done with a minimum of fuss, giving him fingerless gloves that allow for full dexterity while offering an unseen set of controls. Putting them on, and the wrist-mounted control of the sonic weapon, Charles walks around again to ensure he is moving freely. Convinced that his gait is unchanged despite the few devices on his legs, arms, and back, he smiles and considers how to deal with his splintered mind. His idea is annoying as hell for it's status.
Finally, he stops cold, and looks into the camera he knows is there. Only Victoria and Maxi can watch him for now, and he is ready for them to know where he is. Victoria is a curiosity at best, but Maxi has his respect. "Sir, I am going to visit another squad on a personal manner. I promise to return as soon as possible." With that, he smiles and bows in that direction meaning for his Captain, and then walks out of the lab- then the building.

Sitting behind his desk as monitors swirl in and out of his office, Maxi suddenly sits up, launching his right hand out to catch a monitor. The screen is split into five images, each a different view of the SÅkyoku Hill, four normal angles and one showing the condition of the seal and any form of reiatsu within half a mile. The view looked slightly darkened, but dark clouds were visible, so Maxi simply ran his finger along the left side raising the brightness slightly. What bugged him enough to stop the cameras was the fifth image, every few seconds a black film would drift across a corner giving the image a flicker effect, like stop motion filming.
Pulling up a new screen and playing back the loop video for the last 5 minuets to find the biggest black image he could. Maxi stopped the feed and lowered the screen to his desk, where it slide in seamlessly, spreading to cover the entire desk. The image enlarges to match the rest of the picture while maintaining the same quality. Pressing a finger to the desk and outlining the black blob, Maxi cuts the rest of the image away bring a crisper image to light, without revealing anymore details then when it was the size of Maxi's pinky. The screens in front of his desk resume there cycle as if Maxi had never interrupted them in the first place.
A slight trickle of blood escapes the Maxi's ear, flowing around the ear buds he had been filtering the sound threw. Ripping them from his head as the last of the creatures 'voice', if you could call it that, came threw the blood soaked and slightly warped headphones. "Well this won't end well for anyone who heading up there."

Bursting through the doors of the lab, Charles walks through with a slightly haphazard gait. Exhausted and starving from intensive training. To say the least he needs rest, but at the same time an emotional high keeps him moving. Finding a small kitchen, he quickly dives into anything he can throw together and eats so quickly he may not even have tasted his selections. Moving back to his lab, to the place where his reiatsu diffusion experiment is still waiting for refinement, Charles pulls up a chair and frantically puts his thoughts to paper . . . at least until he passes out from exhaustion with a fully belly and a happy smile on his face.

Slowly, blissfully slowly, he begins to wake from his nap. While he does not know how long he has slept, Charles is sure of one thing- he feels ever so much better! Intensive training in squad 5, and the development for what as far as he knows is a new application of kido was more than tiring. More than draining. It was downright exhausting! Perhaps taking a nap was not as accurate as temporarily dying! In any case, he slowly rouses, and rises to stretch languidly with a myriad of pops and cracks as his bones protest the movement. A long, loud cry accompanies his stretch, the typical response to such a pleasant action.
Looking down, Charles reviews his scribbled notes, and smiles as he makes only a few corrections and clarifications. In his stupor, he forgot a few details, but now his body and mind are rested. His notes do not take long to refine, and with a satisfying nod, he puts the book in it's customary place at his back, and he stretches again. Sleeping on the counter, slumped over his book, was not very pleasant or comfortable. Still, he must have been too drained to care. On the benefit, he is still outfitted for the day, and Charles is pleased to find his experimental weapons system and delivery rigs still on him. At his back, his zanpaktou still rests- ready for action. The urge to go and show off his zankido abilities rises, but Charles keeps that quiet. Bad enough that squad 5 has to know of the new abilities. Charles wants this ace to be as quiet as possible for now.
Stopping by the impromptu kitchen for a rice ball and a hearty health drink, Charles wears a perpetual smile. In the mood for some interaction, he casually strolls out of the lab, ready for a bit of duty guarding the portal.

Unlike his exuberant departure, Charles returns in a stoic mood. Despite spending hours and hours at the checkpoint, the most interesting thing was Maxi leaving in a hurry. At least this time he did leave instructions. Entering the building of laboratory five, Charles pauses, and wonders what to do now? He has some authority, he has weapons to test, and the confidence to handle himself. No pressing projects are available to distract him, and his reiatsu rarification project has stalled. Not far off lies a box for Maxi, evidently never picked up. A small smile finds his face as he relives that success in his mind.

"Hello? Is this the right lab? I was told that my reiatsu quick release clasp is in this lab." Walking into the room Zaine looked around, obviously interested in all of the equipment strewn across the lab, "You must be Charles Takena right? It's really a pleasure to meet you, I am Zaine Tsukioma." he said with a bow, when he reassumed his regular posture his attention once more was drawn to the array of interesting gadgets and technology.

So lost in his reverie, Charles didn't hear his guest arrive or enter the room. At the sound of a voice, he freezes, and slowly turns to look and pauses to study the shimigami. Not in a traditional shihaksho, denoting either individuality or rebellion, likely the former given the dark scheme that so mirrors the typical uniform. The fur lining is something a bit out of the ordinary, but given the quirks of his own weapon, he has hardly any room to point. "A fairly attractive man" flits through his mind as he evaluates the new arrival.
Turning to face Zaine, his smirk of past successes transmutes into a more genial smile. Offering a nod in recognition, he likes the feeling of being recognized. "I am indeed Takena, primary third seat of squad 12. So . . . it was you who ordered the quick release? Not a bad idea. It allowed me to create my iaijutsu booster- for which I am grateful." With a slight bow to emphasize the gratitude, Charles moves across the area and finds his work completed and still sitting on the table. Discarding his own note to Maxi, he opens the box and looks over his shoulder at Zaine.
"Would you prefer I install it for you? Doing so will only take a moment, and as you can tell, I like to make the addition flush with a sheath . . . " As his back is turned to the guest, he is able to pat the downturned handle at his right hip idly. Strapped to his bandoleer, the weapon rests comfortably on his back and any addition to the sheath is impossible to see beyond the abnormal length of the weapon.

"Thanks, and glad I managed to help ya out even if I wasn't intending to." he said with a chuckle, "Well sure, here's my zanpakuto." unclasping the belt he brought forth his zanpakuto, the large twinbladed thing was amoung the most uniquely formed for a sealed state in the entire Sereitei, he was known to handle the blade that stood to his own height as if it was a regular katana, and wield it with frightful ability, placing the human length blade on a table he smiled at Charles widely, "I don't know if a Sheath would work for this thing ya know?" he said with a chuckle, indicating the twin blades, one on top and one on bottom that was connected by a simple guardless black hilt.

Charles' smile fades completely as he views the intended weapon for his quick-release. He was under the impression that this was for a sword, not . . . well, whatever the hell this thing is. He doesn't frown at the shimigami, no. He eyes the blade, and realizes that his idea is drastically wrong. The booster is not only wrong for this weapon, attaching any variant is going to be a hassle. "Dear oh dear! This is definitely not what I was expecting. Perhaps you can tell me what you intended? I expected a typical zanpaktou. This is radically different. I can likely adjust the design, but I need to know what you have in mind before I can adjust the design. With something that large, the clasp might prove problematic. How do you carry that thing into battle?!" Not overly concerned with being diplomatic, Charles stares at the weapon and tries to wrap his mind around that thing. His style is caution and defense, this thing is completely opposed to his style!

Zaine's expression fell when he saw the reaction of Charles, "I'll still take the original design! I'm sure I'll find a use for it!" he said sincerely, listening to the man's words carefully he grinned sheepishly, "Well it straps to my back and I usually have to reach behind and unstrap it." He pointed to the latch on the strap that held the zanpakuto when the shinigami was not using it in combat, "I'm really sorry I didn't even think to include the look of my zanpakuto in my request." he muttered.
((I really wanna keep the original one btw, cause I will be reshaping my sealed zanpakuto just so ya know lol))

"Well, it is your commission, and you are free to take it . . . I just wish I knew beforehand what you had in mind. I'll redesign it for your needs, but it would help to know what those needs are." Charles tries to compose himself. Miscommunication is not Zaine's fault, and to be fair he has been quite nice about this. While he prefers to create things in a lab, as colleagues go, this guy isn't so bad. Even moreso, he apologized for the mix up. Again, Charles is forced to admit that he likes this one.
Putting on a faint smile again, he looks over the back-straps and sees what is going on there. "Well, the latch shouldn't need too much adaptation to do what you need it to . . . I just thought to put it on a sheath. Leaving it free-floating on your strap would do the same job . . . here- you can practice on this. It only requires a small burst of reiatsu to trigger the opening mechanism, but must be done precisely to avoid accidental opening. This way you can practice while I fit one for you." Handing Zaine the original device, he races out of the room only to return moments later with a few components and he literally begins to assemble the parts on Zaine. After all, how better to ensure they work than to have them on the customer like a fitting for a shirt?

Smiling happily Zaine took the original commission and pocketed it, "Thanks for being so good about this, once again though my apologies for the misunderstanding about this whole thing." he said with a sheepish chuckle.
Straightening his arms out and allowing Charles to do his work Zaine turned his thoughts back to the wonderous equipment around him.

After a few minutes of miscellanious tinkering, and a few choice curses under his breath, Charles steps back and inspects his work. The clasp still remains the same in operation, only out in the open rather than deceptively hidden. Such is blatant and obvious, and very much not his style of doing things. Nevertheless, it works. In order to take on the additional weight of such a large weapon, he had to double the size of the clasp, but that was hardly a concern. Having worked out the bugs with the prototype now sitting in Zaine's pocket, he has no problem adjusting the design- proven by his iaijutsu booster hidden on Aitourrensa. Strolling around Zaine and looking at sevral angles, he speaks softly. "There . . . had to make a few adjustments for your personal needs- and I can't really hide it like I do with my own version of the device, but that should easily hold your cleavers. Give it a go, let's be sure it's ready before you do anything drastic and depend on them." Charles is absolutely certain that they will work, but given the mistake before he is determined to make this weapon mod work before walking away again.
