Wow... :: awkward pause :: Talk about a profile debate... <.< Perhaps we should just stick to asking for a SPECIFIC general character outline with Name:
Age:
Role: (pirate, scientist, government, army)
Personallity:
Basic description:
Character Development notes: (IE, some notes that explain, based on backstory, what you'd like to see happen to them in the future. I mean, I know that would help ME, but eh. up to you all)

I don't think anyone should worry too much about back story and heritage. I mean... we have characters, on a ship, and stuff's gonna happen and there's going to be some pirates, and explosions... and scientific people going "EUREKA!!" I mean, it's not like we're gonna have a lot of screen time to fit in everyone's history. Mainly just gather info about the character as the story is told. The Ship is the main character here, as far as I can tell ( due to all the info about it) as well as the time period.

But so far, I like the characters. Looks like fun!

Star, that's more of an RP setup...

but if you want... although I think mine is rather clear...

I included as much possible info as i did to give ideas, touch on possible motivations, reasons for becoming a pirate, etc.

This is because if shes one of the more mainstream pirates rather then just a one time extra, chances are she will have to over time explain bits of her past.
To keep people interested in the character. Not right off or all at once, but i can see her standing on the ship with faded background of fires, or something and a "young" version of her running and her saying something like "I'll always be doing this"

First off, I have no problem's with Jad, and you're working him into the story. And being a writer has it's perks with writing for your own character. ^_^... I mainly meant the others.

Yes, I realize I get a little RPish when it comes to organizing stuff, but it gives us a basis we can get more info from later. I start with simple and work upwards. Right now we're getting a bunch of characters we're having to shuffle around to place in the story... and then trying to fit specific back stories in with them... hnya.

Why not get some basic info, place them in a role with regards to the events that HAVE gone on in the past/present, and THEN ask the creator to fill in the blanks to help back the position?

Yes we have pirates, and airship captains but, though I LOVE reading random back stories, (which work well if we are developing a story around a main character(s)) we get a mishmash that may have little to do with the main story we're trying to tell.

I prefer a cohesive flow that can involve the character in all parts of the story, like yes a pirate, but lets work in the back story of the ship into their past: They've lived pillaging the Anachron' for years, but suddenly, an event, like someone tried to stop them and fell overboard, which was an event EVERYONE knew about and can relate to/blame them for. So thus, they are this way.

(which still fits in with the personality. why they got the way they are).

Just my thinking. I have done a lot of RP work, as well as story work, and I know from writing with many people, that sometimes people that COME from many directions can be hard to put in ONE direction to tell a cohesive story. The Profiles just help me, personally, keep track of who we have and how they might be used in the story.

And Lysethiel, don't worry. ^_^ I just made a note based on what I saw go back and forth between people here. I get flack from my fellow writers when I accept profiles that seem 'waaay out there' at times, since I can see how they might fit into future plans. But since only a few people will be writing it, we all gotta have the same mindset to move the characters around in the world.

<.< and I'm sure there's a profile set up already, but sometimes it's good to have a form specific to the story/project. I get all OCD and want to include character details to make them stand out... but sometimes, as I've found out, it can get confusing. Thus I like the idea of having the Anacron' the main character and having characters who are attached to it and have purpose because of it. Fighting for their home and such... I like the setting. It's very interesting. <3

You should have some reason why they're there too.

Brief example:
For Jad, he's there for money and adventure... also to tell stories.

Loooove it! As long as it's practical. Not like "Um... to pick up chicks!"
Now if I actually see that I shall die a little on the inside. x.x

In all honesty i did not expect to cause a stir with my desire to be included in the comic at its end date.

So, since this seems to be such a problem and I feel unwelcome.
Perhaps it would be best that my posts be deleted and shortly there after I am expunged from the guild, since i believe in magick and enjoy the concept of steampunk and magic mingling together.
Such as the magitek armor in final fantasy. But I digress, since i seemed to have caused conflict, as stated, perhaps it would be best if i where removed.

Hey hey hey NONONO! >_< We're just finalizing what works and what may not work for this storyline. It's nothing to do with you, it's with making sure everyone is on the same page so sharing characters is easier.

I actually know little about Steampunk myself, but this is a great place to learn and get to know new people with interesting ideas!

Unfortunately here, we have to be a little picky, because of the nature of the world we're creating for the comic. We need characters that will fit in the crystal era (which to me means shiny things sticking out of rocks, but I digress...) in a flying steamship world. Unique is good, but we gotta think story at times. Discussion about a character is good, it means there's interest there and that we can get more use out of it. I mean, there's been a lot of characters offered up that have had little notice...

So, attention can be good. Just don't beat yourself up about it. We're still getting everything put together on our end too! >_<

I always took crystal era to mean that the power source was some kind of energized gem, rigged into the machinery to provide power, removing certain design constraints normal steam power would have.

For instance, (we'll use Jad's airship for this) the steamy Laughing Eagle's below-deck would be filled with compressed gases, pipes, and a boiler. A crystal Laughing Eagle loses a lot of the tanks and pipes needed to power the rotors, replacing it with a group of gems powering the rotors there is still steam for Jad's 'burst engines' or 'interceptor jets,' a military feature installed to cut off (or in Jad's case, run away from) enemy airships at a startling speed for a short time by releasing the compressed gases. This feature is really only able to be used once, so if Jad doesn't refill the tanks, he will be out of luck when he needs to use them.

I designed the system for use in a steampunk environment, so it's actually very practical for the modified interceptor ship Jad uses, as well as achievable (provided you have a decent lab to produce compressed gases...).

so Crystal Era allows you to do things you normally couldn't do with clockwork and steam, due to space constraints.

Mmm... there are times I just don't know WHAT to think about new themes, but I find it all works out in the end.

As for using crystals... what about the theoretical idea that they can store information.. using them for navigation storage, or like the brain of a computer? As long as there's a method for getting the information in and out.. . it could be a medium. I remember seeing something about that a LOOONG time ago on a show about the supposed 'Crystal Skulls' and how they might be storing information, thus the symbolistic form of a skull.

I know some gems are good for holding/storing and releasing heat and energy and some have other properties ( I collect gems), so... well, depending on how far we're going with USING crystals, there's is much potential. Unless I'm going on a complete opposite tangent, to which I say, 'wow that was fun, now on with the planning!'

But that's me being weird as well. Though methods for containing and harnessing ether are on my mind as well...

you don't need to think about it... I can imagine many such devices myself, but you may want to consult the guildmates to query such matters.

I prefer to think that Jad's ship works, not because he knows how it does, but because he's not changed what the navy invented... just kept it running smoothly.

MM, yes. My query isn't so much 'what can be used', since they mention some things that are going to be in the Crystal age... but how we can use them. Thus I'm already considering how to use such things as aethers and crystals in a fantasy setting. I like to use what I can to make the world stand out more.

Thus my mind tells me we need a character who is constantly inventing new uses for the technology. Wah... summer's almost over already and little has really been done. Least' I only got work to worry about.

I did take a look at some of the profiles, but there's so many in there... time to work with the ones we have.

Since you're here, SPI, is there anyone else that is around Jad, like crew member or friend? Pet? He's as good a starting place as any for the story. Might as well just get it going! ^_^

Actually, Jad is rather alone. his only real friend is a lady in the upper class of Boston, Massachusetts. Her name is Lady Kendris Velana. She's waiting for him to come back...

She gave him that ship.

suffice to say, Jad has to scurry around quite a bit when flying.

Hmm... alone on the ship due to preference because he has trouble finding crew, or just reaaaly particular about people not touching anything that belonged to his girl?

There could be a couple of ways to go with this...

usually because he drives people away with his wild stories, so the former.

Although his room on the ship he is a bit particular about.
