Ahead of them was a large building with minimal lighting. The archers let off a few arrows, aiming for Ray and Callista, but Ray was too fast and the arrows missed. Suddenly, from the rooftops jumped down six dark figures, right in front of the duo with their weapons outstretched. "Halt!" one of the cried out.

The one who had spoken earlier laughed. "We don't want you at the council, and the council doesn't want you either. They sent us to kill you so you could never report back to your precious little family," he said, pointing an accusing finger at Callista.
"Why though?" she asked.
"I don't know and I don't care. We're just here for the money," he said and ran forward with a belestial roar, charging the duo.

Callista felt a surge of warmth go through her as Ray yelled at the people. But then that feeling went away quickly as a blizzard came out of Ray's blade, causing her to become confused and a little cold. "Ray, screw the council. We'll run to Aschella and tell my father. Let's go!" she shouted and twirled around, her weapons ready as she was about to make a mad dash towards the gate.

"I'm fine," she said and checked herself quickly. "What about you?" We'd have to get to the forest within half a days ride to warn my father... she planned thoughtfully.

"Head south-west from the town," Callista said.
Later...
They arrived in the forest of Aschella shortly after sunset and Callista climbed off of Raykine's back quickly and motioned for him to be quiet. She let out a whistle, which sounded much like a birds', and from a tree behind them, another elf appeared. He smiled to her and led them to the town in the middle of the forest.

"Daughter," the old elf said, hugging Callista when he saw her once they were in the large spire.
"Father," she replied, hugging him back. "This is Raykine. A paid bodyguard. We went to see the council and we were ambushed."
"Hmm...let me go check with my wizards," he said and walked out.
"Okay, this is probably the end of the line for our companionship Ray," Callista said, moving closer to him ever so slightly.

She nodded her head understandingly and smiled to him and then laughed. "What a bunch of girls we are," Callista said.
Her father returned swiftly and looked at Ray. "Who are you to help my daughter?" he asked kindly, in an old fashioned elven way.

"It is a pleasure to meet you young one. You may call Sakiim," he said and returned the bow. "Thank you for watching over my daughter. You may take your leave as you wish. I will have one of my guards escort you out if you wish."
Callista looked to Ray and smiled sadly, knowing what her father would say if he refused.

Before Sakiim could reply, Callista jumped forward [literally], and had a huge smile on her face. "Father, please let him stay. He could be a valuable asset to us of course," she said.
Sakiim thought for a moment and then nodded his head. "Because you seem so fond of protecting my daughter, you will stay in the extra room next to hers. Be off! I need to gather people," he said, dismissing them.
Callista smiled to Ray and grabbed his hand, running to her room quickly and shut the door behind them, and slumped against the wooden frame. "Nasqu'a," she muttered under her breath.
