User Image Yes, he did! He was saying more engrish, and seemed to want him to react to it... Hyo would try his best to not disappoint his spirit teacher.

He carefully studied the kind spirit's motions, and listen to the weird words he made. It didn't seem that complicated?
The boy encouraged himself, and when Raai finally showed him that it's his turn, the boy spoke.
"Iuu arr Hyo-Hyo."

Lai listened to the words Hyo spoke. She knew her own name, and that was good, but the way she was saying it was calling Lai by her name. He gave a pleasant "good try" smile, but shook his head. He knew it wasn't her fault, it was his, so he would just have to change it around a bit.

"I am Hyo." He pointed to her. "You are Lai." He pointed to himself. That was the correct way and would help prevent confusion later on. He repeated it twice more, going slow and making sure to say 'I am' when pointing to Hyo and 'you are' when pointing to himself.

I will just have to take things slow and think before I speak. She is parroting me after all.

User Image Oh....that explains what I did wrong...

It seems the kind spirit was expecting him to do some kind of introduction, looking at the fact that the words changed with the name used. Now that he knew that, he'll remember it for the future.

The boy took a deep breath, and tried again. Hopefully this time he'll do it correctly?
"Aii am Hyo." He said, pointing at himself. Then his hand moved, and showed the kind spirit. The boy smiled, and continued. "Iuu arr Raai."
Did I do good? Did I do good? Please make me do good!

For the small second that Mokoyis strayed her gaze, Vashan took the moment to regain his composure, take more deep breaths. He had not been expecting an encounter so soon, and with such a lovely lady, as well. From the color of her skin and hair, he could tell that she was far from the foreigner girl he had fallen in love with so long ago.

He opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by her suggestion. Instead, he cleared his throat and followed with hesitant but smooth carriage to the table.

He took one glance around the ballroom as he walked further into it- a high, vaulted ceiling, with hints of the most brilliant stars peeking through the tops. In the corners, dark flooded in a little bit, giving the whole place a balanced, majestic aura. He had never seen parties like this in Jamaica.

Her question caught him off guard, and he paused for a bit before responding.

"Jamaica," he stated flatly, unsure how to say it without revealing everything that he had kept bottled in, all these years. He pressed a hand to his chest lightly before letting it fall to the side, waiting for her to seat herself before he did the same.

Excellent!

Lai clapped his hands together before nodding vigorously and then reaching out to pat Hyo on the head. That was exactly right, the girl had gotten it. And it was amazing how fast she got things. Not only that, if anyone introduced themselves she could tell them who she was. Okay, that wasn't too hard. What to do now?

The Russian looked around. The hallway had its lights, the chairs, benches, floor, walls, ceiling...Identifying objects! That's what he would do next. Every sentence had to have something in it that was being talked about, right? Plus it would familiarize Hyo with the things used and around him everyday at LOTUS. He removed his hand but kept smiling at the girl as he moved to the light hanging on the wall near them. Lai reached up and pointed to it, his finger away from the glass that was certain to be very hot.

"Light. Lie-tuh." Every syllable of a word would be stressed after he said the word the first time. He half wished he had some paper and pencils right now; that way he could get in a writing lesson as well as a speaking one. Reading and writing were just as important.

User Image Yay, I did good, I did good!
Hyo smiled widely from joy, ready to take even more of that awful engrish into his head. After all, the kind spirit will praise him when he remembers correctly!

Here comes the new word! Hyo got ready, and stared at the kind spirit's lips so that he'll be sure to repeat after him as similarly as possible.
"Raaaaai...tu? Raaitu?"
The spirit was pointing at one of the shiny-shiny things that were all around them. Hyo wondered how did they make fire burn in such unusual containers. This raaitu, which must mean the containers, was something really wonderful.... Mother would love to have one of those at the House, to amaze her guests...

Hm...Hyo did well, but he ended his saying of 'light' on a slightly different sound. The Russian gave him a nod of approval at the try before he repeated the word, putting more emphasis on the 'tuh' sound that came at the end.

"Light. Lie-tuh. Lie-tuh." Not too large of a bump in the road. You can do it Miss Hyo.

He brought his hand closer to the glass, the bulb inside it giving off a strong warmth. Without his gloves Lai's hands had become a bit cold, but no matter, that could be fixed momentarily. In the back of his mind he had noted Thasios had been gone a long while, not that he didn't blame the man who had left covered in wine. Lai just hoped that he would return soon to prove his first lesson as true to Hyo.

"Lie-tuh."

User Image ...did I do wrong?
Hyo observed the kind spirit, as he was repeating the strange word a few more times. The boy concentrated, getting himself ready to try again...

...But then the spirit moved himself closer to the raaitu, as if wanting to touch it.
But he can't do that! What will he do if the kind spirit gets himself burned?! Hyo quickly stood up from the sitting thing, and caught the spirit's hand before he could reach the raaitu.
<"You can't do that!"> He said, with a worried tone, forgetting that the spirit wouldn't understand. <"The fire in your raaitu... raaithu.."> he corrected himself quickly, after what the spirit said before <"...is too hot, if you touch it you'll get burned! The kind spirit can't be burned, please stop!">

Though a thought that just came to his head made him wonder... Can spirits be hurt at all?
Did he just make a complete fool of himself?

Lai wasn't going to touch the glass encasing the bulb, it was far too hot, but the heat drifting over felt good. He was about to put his hand just a bit closer when Hyo grabbed his hand away. The Russian blinked down in surprise at the girl, who had just started going on in his native tongue. Did she think he was actually going to touch it? It appeared so and it also looked as though she had never seen an electric light before. Still, she appeared worried about the thing, so to reassure her Lai dropped his hand down and away from the light.

"I am sorry Miss Hyo." He didn't mean to scare her like that. Lai eased his hand out of Hyo's and reached into his pocket for his gloves. He held them out to her before putting the left one on and smiling to tell the girl he wasn't going to touch the light anymore.

"Gloves. Guh-loves" Not a part of the hallway exactly, but an object to be identified nonetheless. Lai put on his right one and his hands felt a bit warmer now. And there was no worry that Hyo would get afraid of him touching the light anymore.

User Image Oh, he didn't touch it, that's good, that's so good!
Hyo smiled, and politely went back to sit on his place. In the end she didn't know if the kind spirit would get burned or not from touching the raaithu, but at least he wasn't going to try.

And now he put something on his hands. A clothing accessory of some sort, that fitted very neatly around the fingers. Hyo reached his hand, wanting to touch the pretty thing.
"Gyuu...rowes? Gyurowes?" He repeated the name after the spirit. The boy really hoped that he'll manage to remember all those engrish words...

Lai kept his gloved hand out so that Hyo could touch the white cotton object. If you could handle an object, the faster you could learn about it. As the girl tried to pronounce the name of the gloves he gave a smile but a slow shake of his head. No matter though, no one can get it right away and practice makes perfect. Again he let himself speak the syllables of the word slowly and clearly, trying to make every letter count.

"Gloves. Guh-Luh-Oves." There, he made three syllables by going a bit slower. Three may be bigger than two, but in the long run it would help make the word more understandable. Now to see if she could get it. Lai had the patience and time to teach, but he hoped he had the knowledge. Now that he looked back, he couldn't remember how he had first learned verbs, adjectives, and those such things. And how was he to teach words like 'the', 'are', and 'and'? That would be a problem, but he would worry about that when it arose.

Mokoyis took on of the chairs and looked up at the tall man. "Jamaica? It's warm there right? I imagine you find the mountains here cold." She was vaguely aware that the island was near the equator or some such. "I'm from Canada." She volunteered giving the modern name of the country. In actuality she hadn't even checked on the state of her own nation, afraid of what she might find.

She watched the half of a hamburger dancing with a tiny smile. This stranger seemed awfully quiet, but perhaps Estrelas and Lokiari had spoiled her. He was new, and LOTUS could be intimidating. Either that or he just didn't like her if such a thing was possible.

Well, thought Johannes. Didn't know whistling bothered the stranger so much. Or for that matter, anyone. Johannes couldn't help but act like a typical Spaniard for one millisecond and look at the stranger like something of a mix between a glare and a sorry-for-existing-face.

"Thank you for the water", said Johannes kindly. He drank a few sips at first, then some big gulps. It was best to take it slow, step by step. He hoped this might help calm his stomach, if at all.

He tried to look around the room without making himself dizzy at everything that was happening. There was a....thing dancing, Lai and the unicorn sitting together, some other people around that he didn't either notice or hadn't really seen them yet, and....two birds of a feather, to be 'punny.' He wasn't expecting the rest of the night to go as smoothly for himself, however. What's worse than getting drunk?

"Have you been enjoying yourself, sir?" asked Johannes to the stranger. He tried to make some conversation with him, however simple or obvious might seem.

As she sat down, he followed suite, pulling out the chair back and smoothing down his costume before sitting down completely. He lay his hands length wise on the table, fingers drumming softly to his nervousness.

"It's... it's warm, yes. We don't have much a winter," he explained softly, the curves at the end of his mouth indicating that he really would rather not speak about it. "But I haven't been here long. It really only has been a week or so, and I haven't gone outside much."

He quirked a brow as he looked her over- last he heard, Canada was a very diverse nation, and though she seemed to reflect that, there was also a sort of natural elegance that he couldn't see any Canadian taking in his time.

Then again, she could have been from any time.

"I imagine it's very lovely there," he mused aloud, glancing across the ballroom for a second, not finding amusement in the incompletely food item's doings. He brought his eyes back to her and tightened his lips into what looked like a makeshift smile. "I've actually always wanted to go to Canada."

Thought I could be free there, his mind seemed to chime after him.

"Fun, eh? Sounds like that might be worth a shot. I've never been one for stuffy things anyway, so let's get this stuff on the road."

Einar hiccuped softly under his breath, his alcohol tolerance not even slightly touched, but it was fun to pretend you know. He'd done something very similar earlier here at LOTUS with a certain priest, all because he felt like having a bit of fun, and he laughed loudly at the memory. Who cared if no one else was laughing?

"So then what should we do? Dance? Sing? I'm pretty good at destroying things without meaning to."

He had ignored the whole Shee/Wraith comment all together, not wanting to think about the little girl.
