Cale picked up on what Akio had said and glanced over his shoulder at him. He hadn't heard it all, something about 'the good ones are taken' and 'natural genius'. He had figured Akio was eyeing a girl off somewhere, not really knowing Akio well enough.

Akio felt they eyes on his back and giggled. "I think the Ravenclaw boy is looking at me, Kane. Should I go over?" Another giggle.
"No. I think you should mind your own business and stop bother people."
"Why would I do that? I have my rights!" He tapped Kane on the shoulder.
"Yes yes. No. Shush. Remember, you don't like the other houses."
"That can be changed, my friend."

Cale turned his eyes back to his food and half paid attention to the semi-arguing pair. They seem to have a perfect harmony of disagreeing with each other.

Kane started to scribble down notes on his parchment, when he felt a weight on his shoulders. "Akio, really. I know that Liem isn't here, and that Thade... Well never mind that. Get your arm off of me."
"...You always know the worst things to say. For your information, I am completely over Thade. Let the Dark Lord have his way with him, if he must."
"Akio, shut up. You know not to talk about that. Especially here."
"Why? It's not like they can do anything about it."
"Akio," Kane inhaled sharply, "I swear to-"
"Anyway, where's Hana?" He glanced at Cale out of the corner of his eye for no particular reason other than he was quite nice to look at.
"...You know she's getting married. Now shush."

Cale tried to listen in to what was being said as he was curious but they had seemed to start talking all hush hush and it had made it difficult. His attention was drawn away when he felt his arm being nudged.
Looking down he saw his pet with a message sack attached to him and small box inside. Retrieving the box he pet Hephaestion and sent the Snow Tiger cub on it's way.

Kane sighed and got up. As he walked by the tiger cub he gave it a quick pat on the head. "Think about what I said earlier, Akio," was all he said and then he was gone.
"I'll think about it...but that doesn't say much." He laid down on the bench and placed and arm over his eyes. "Now what?" He said mostly to himself.

Cale stood from his seat after a few minutes, he gave Akio a quick glance before walking off. He was not one for liking crowded places when he wasn't putting on 'face'. And he had to see what it was he got somewhere more quiet. He knew he should throw out what he had received but he had kept the ones he received prior because he had a feeling about them.

Akio caught his eye and smirked to himself. If I wasn't so tired, I'd be up for the chase. But for now...I shall sleep. Then a change of thought. No, I shall not sleep. He bounce up and walked over to Cale.
"Hey. Pardon me if I'm bugging you, but I couldn't help but notice your pet. It's quite beautiful. Rare, aren't they?" He gave a sweet smile, knowing that the boy probably didn't really want to talk to him. Or anyone, for that matter.

Cale took a silent breath and turned to face Akio and smiled at him.
"Yes they are rare to find. My grandfather used to raise a few and gave me one for Christmas just before my first year. He's a little different then most. He takes longer to grow."
Cale gave the boy by him a glance over. Some of the things he had heard the girls say about the boy had been true.

Akio smiled and cocked his head. "You're grandfather gave him to you? That's awfully generous. What's his name?"
He followed the boys eyes and continued to smile.

Akio let out a breathy laugh; almost a giggle. "Wise beyond your years, I suppose. You say you've had him for 9 years? Was he still...a kitten when you got him?" He shifted his weight and place his hand on his hip.

Cale gave a weak smile, clutching the box under his arm. "Yes he was. He's grown a little. About 6-7 inches in height."

Akio's smile was fading slowly, as his jaw started to hurt. "That's not normal for it's species, is it? Is that how your grandfather raised them?" He ran a hand through his long hair.

"He was an...odd one out of litter. My grandfather said he would bring great things. I think my father just wanted to get rid of the reject of the litter." Cale said blatantly. He did not have much love for his grandfather and knew the Christmas invites was just an act to pretend he cared.
