Liam's smile grew a little wider and he looked at his cookie. He took another bite out of it as he nodded his answer.

Hannah bit her lip and leaned against the counter. She watched him continually eat the cookies. "I'm glad you still like them." He nodded and just ate the cookie. "Say something."

Liam looked up at her and then mocked her. "Something." He chuckled a bit. "So...what happens now?"

Hannah gave him a look. "That wasn't funny." She stood there and shrugged. "I don't know. But I've wanted to tell you that since I first saw you."

Hannah took his hand and let them to the swing on their back porch. She sat down and patted the one next to her for him to sit. "That's just it. I liked him. At first I didn't love him. He actually cornered me into dating him. He was over here one night, him and I playing poker, and he told me how much he really liked me. So the stakes on the poker game went up. If said if I won he give me all my money back and if he won I'd have to go on one date with him. I was really broke so of course I agreed. So went on our one date. It actually started at breakfast and ended after dinner." She began to move the swing with her legs still planted on the ground.
"Jeremy, made me feel loved. They way my parents never did. And this was around the time my parents split so I want to continue dating him. That's why we were together. As time went on, I came to find how much I loved him. But I always loved you more. I became confused. I wanted you more than anything but I didn't want to lose Jeremy. But there was always this feeling that I would. That the day he left me was soon approaching. I even warned him not to take that drive." Tears formed her eyes at the thought. "Do you remember why he even took that drive? It was because of me. Remember? I told him I never got candles on my cake a few weeks before that. Actually, I told him I never got a cake because the dog at my Aunt and Uncles house ate it. He told me he was going out for a second." More tears ran down her cheeks as she looked up at Liam. "There was a cake in the car when they found him."

This boded well. Adella had finished her first half a mile, acording to the step-counter clipped to her sock, and she had seen neither hide nor hair of Ryan. She suspected this was mostly because she'd changed her route up today. She'd been on the track team at school, and had run a mile every morning since she was fifteen. She turned around. She could make it home without seeing him, she was sure.
The morning was fresh and new around her and she altered her course on the way home in order to swing past Hannah's house. She glanced through the kitchen window where she saw Hannah and Liam eating cookies. Excellent. She hadn't had breakfast yet, and Hannah's cookies were the best.
She smoothed out her hair, and re-wound the scrunchie around it before rining the doorbell. Sure, she was still dressed in her old, beat-up running clothes, and she was a little sweaty, but there was no one in there for her to impress. She stood and patiently waited for someone to answer the door.

Liam placed his arm around her. He had no idea what to say. He held his mouth a gape, wishing, hoping that the right words would come out but he was choking on them. He was speachless. He closed his mouth and just looked at Hannah and wiped away her tears.

Liam held her for a long time. He held her until she stopped crying. When she did, he wiped her tears and she smiled at him. "Sorry. Now I'm a mess." Hannah wiped her face to wipe off any running make up.

Ryan woke up the next morning a little late, as he got up to put on a pot of coffee, his brother Derek tossed him something.
"What's this?" He asked curiously
"I dunno, it came in the mail while you were gone yesterday." Derek replied.
Ryan opened the letter and read it thoroughly, then he read it a second time to make sure he wasn't dreaming. Although the letter was short, there was a lot that was told.
"Wow." Was all he could think of to say.
"I'd bet my right arm it was Adella." Derek knew about his crush on Adella.
"What makes you think it was her?"
"Oh please, she looks at you like you're some kind of god."
Ryan decided that he needed to find out a.s.a.p. He got his cell phone from his nightstand and sent Adella a quick text message, he was really hoping that she had her phone on her.
Dell, it's Ryan, meet me at the park, we need to talk.

Hannah's mom had answered the door. She'd politely told Della that Hannah and Liam were busy at the moment, and that maybe Della should come back later.
"Okay, thanks anyway, Mrs. Taylor. Could you remind Hannah that she agreed to a Girl's Night at my house tonight?"
"Sure thing, Della."
So, Adella headed home. She jumped into the shower. When she got out, there was a text on her phone. From Ryan. who she was extremely nervous about meeting. She numbly texted back On my way, then she yelled out "CAS-SIE!" at the top of her lungs. Her sister came walking in. Adella shoved Ryan's letter at her.
"Oh. My. God."
"I know. Now read this." she showed her the text.
"Oh."
"I know. What do I wear? What do I say? What do I do?"
"Calm down." Cassie tossed some clotes at Adella. "Put these on. When you get there, say hello. After that, you just have to play it by ear. I'm happy for you though, sis. I thought he might never tell you."
"You knew?"
"How could I not. Have you ever seen how he looks at you?"

Fifteen minutes later, Adella was at the park. She wore her nicest jeans, her 'fancy' flip-flops, and one of Cassie's shirts. She could have still been wearing her running clothes for all she cared. She saw Ryan. "Hey..." she said, her hands in her pockets. Her right hand closed tight around Ryan's letter.

Ryan's stomach was doing back flips as Adella walked up to him.
"Hi Della." he responded calmly.
"I see you got my letter, I was afraid you wouldn't recognize the name." he smiled sheepishly.
He took Adella's letter out from his pocket and his face suddenly turned red.
"Were you the one who wrote this?" he stuttered as he spoke.

Della guessed that he might be wondering if she wrote the letter, and she was fully prepared to deny it, or shrug it off, except that when he brought it out she winced. And now she knew he felt the same. So, instead of lying she just nodded her head. She didn't quite trust herself to speak yet.

Ryan didn't realize that he was holding his breath, he exhaled in relief. Now that he knew, he calmed down a bit and could speak complete sentences.
"I'm...glad that you feel the same way, wondering about it was starting to make my hair fall out." He easily pulled out a lock of hair and let it fall to the ground to prove his point.
Just then, he could feel someone watching him and smiling. Thanks Jeremy he thought to himself.
That familiar, relaxed smile returned to his face. He looked at Adella with love in his eyes.
"Don't be so tense, all you need is a pedestal and you'd make a perfect statue." then he added, "The prettiest statue i'd ever see."

Adella smiled. Now that the thought was sinking in, she found she could think straight again. Then he looked at her, with such love, that Adella found her thoughts leaving again. However, this time she was much less 'tense' as Ryan put it. She was glad now that she'd let Cassie help her get ready. What would she do without her when she left home? "I'm starting to think maybe that letter was a good thing."
