I'm going home tomorrow, I'm not sure when I'll be back again, so if you have any questions... I hope Kimyanji would pay this guild a visit. redface

I took Arabic for like, three weeks, 15 days, 4+ hours a day...
And we still didn't learn much. Barely finished the alphabet...

I learned it "kayf haluk," but when I said it that way, my friend said that it was said "halek."

Meh. I learned MSA from a Moroccan, so there's bound to be some differences...

I've heard that Moroccan Arabic is so different. I once saw a comparison of the names of the numbers. It was kind of scary. Though I'm sure MSA is a whole lot more standardized (Well, of course--so it is named) because of TV and newspapers and the internet. However, knowing MSA isn't useful for talking to people.
Heh, it's a lot more complicated than I thought it would be. ^^
Oh, and today I changed my keyboard settings so I could use it to type in Arabic. It's pretty handy. biggrin Now, all I have to do is learn to write. . .

I've forgotten the Arabic alphabet...
But you know what I think is so hard?
Trying to differentiate between 'ayin and 'alif, when they're right next to each other. D:

Yeah, here I'll find an example...
Edit: I suppose the oly example I could find was clock: shaa'aa or ساعة.
It's just crazy to try and spell it, if you don't already know how.

Doppelgaanger Yeah, here I'll find an example... Edit: I suppose the oly example I could find was clock: shaa'aa or ساعة. It's just crazy to try and spell it, if you don't already know how. ا here is mute. It only serves as a vowel. So it would be something like sa-Aah. Alif will always be silent, unless it appears as أ (or ئ, ؤ, ء - I don't know if you've gotten there, so I'm sorry if this is confusing to you). If it lacks that little symbol up there, it's only a vowel. For example, the word أَبِيَاض (white) - it's pronounced "abiyadh", and أ is a consonant while ا is a vowel. That being said, أ and ع sound really different, ع being more guttural. This might help you out. smile

No, that makes sense, and I realize the sound very different, I can pronounce them okay, but we did some weird thing in class where you had to distinguish between them in a word when they were right next to eachother, and it was just really, gonk

It took me a long time to see the difference between د, ض and ظ, for example. xP
