Is swedish easier or harder to learn that Danish then?

Most people say it is easier to learn danish, but the rare few doesn't. The thing with swedish is that it is a combination of so many languages, which might make it a bit easier to learn.
Personally, I think swedish is harder than danish. I have a hard time understanding both the written and spoken parts of swedish.
During the past 4 months, I have spent time with a girl who came from the czech republic. She found swedish easier to learn, than danish.

Isnt that like an Efterskole?

Jeg gik på en efterskole i 2005/2006

Kinda, yeah. Except on a Højskole it's not so much about the classes, but finding yourself and figure out what you want with your life. You grow a lot there and get a lot of great friends and stuff.

ok 3nodding

But I have heard from many people that Swedish is a very hard language as there is no rule for 'a' and 'an', and this affects the whole sentance if you don't know if a word is 'en' or 'ett' because you have to change other words as well sweatdrop Is it the same for Danish?

Actually, it is very much correct. 'I dont speak danish' translates directly.

I'd kinda like to learn Danish myself. If not master it, then at least get familiar with it. I only know four words: jeg-I, deg-you, Danmark-Denmark, and Dansk-Danish. sweatdrop

Does anyone have some sites for Danish? And it would be most appreciated if someone could point me to a pronunciation guide that has sound clips to listen to.

Actually dig* is you and dansk is not capitalized. There are some links in the language learning section. This one is the one I'm familiar with and it has audio clips. Jeg and dig both rhyme with the English word eye. Enjoy! biggrin

*Dig is the objective form, like the German dich and dir forms. Du is nominative. For first person singular, jeg is nominative, and mig is objective.

I find Danish harder than French.

Learning it right now.

However alot of the people say

It is easier than French.

Easier than french!? Huney, Danish is said to be one of the hardest European languages, because a lot of the words only resemble the northern tongue.
French is more alike to the English tongue, which should make it easier to learn.

Danish has unlogical grammar, unlogical pronouncation and very hard pronounciation at that, too. Not to mention, unlike most languages, Danish is kinda monotone and doesn't have a sing-song to it like, say, Norwegian.

It is, however, much easier to learn once you know Norwegian.

But easier than french? Maybe if you have learned french first, but... No, I couldn't imagine it being easier.

Oh, og velkommen til guilden, Ab.
Really, well the people I know are mostly foreign and they say that it is easier than French because they are so used to it. Maybe it just seems easier to them because Danish is used on the radio the TV and the subtitles in movies.

Also they say there are alot of similar words to english in Danish. @_@ I guess that is why.

See? Even the words I thought I knew were incorrect in many ways. xp

Thanks a bunch for the link.

That might be the reason. I hear very often, though, that it's easier to understand the written than the spoken, because Danes have a tendency to snap off endings of words.

There is a s**t load of danish words taken from english and just switched a few letters to make it look Danish.

Pathetic = Patetisk
Location = Lokation (Although the 'a' in the danish is a bit more flat than in the english)

And that's just a few.

selvfølgelig-of course

I would recommend the link above if you have speakers or buy Teach yourself Danish w/CDs.
If you try learning Norwegian along side it, it becomes easier to read and possibly spelling the words right....
before I bought the danish course I would always pronunce my words like Norwegian and know I can pronunce them fine...just need to work on the grammar so Hellsbitch's eyes don't bleed...tak for hjaelpen...with the corrections
