The white snake struggled under his capture. He arched his body upwards, but that only made the buck push more of its body downwards. Using the last of its spirit the deer was willing to take the child down with him. Something Shisei was not willing to let happen. His body tried to readjust itself which only caused the boy’s adversary to begin pushing him along floor. Shisei grunted and groaned has his body slid over rough rocks and gravel. The snake youth felt like he was somehow becoming grated cheese. This continued for a minute until the youth’s body was pressed against the side of the trap. His mind was racing a thousand clicks per second. There had to be some way to turn this around. Some thing to aid him. Something to help. His fingers began to try and dig into the skull of the creature. This only cause it to ram him further into the wooden wall. The snake child let out a loud grunt with the last hit. Its skull was like a battering ram outside of his chest. There was no way he could let some herbivore finish him off. The predatory mind just had to think of what to do.

His fingers scraping into the skull of the beast was no good. The arms began to touch around the floor hoping that the stake had landed over in the area. Fingers made no signs of finding the weapon. “There is something else I can do… there must.” the sly mind thought. Maybe he could somehow pull himself out. Or perhaps break one of the antlers then roll away from that side. While his mind came up with a dozen ideas that did not seem like they would work in the situation his hand finally made a grasp of something. It felt metallic. Was it the girl’s club? No it didn’t have that weight and thickness to it. Regardless the serpent boy tried to pick up the item with his left hand. If it was something pointy then it could be helped. As soon as the armament was lifted off of the ground the sound of sword leaving its sheath could be heard. This noise startled the deer and its eyes leered toward the origin. Gold eyes barely took a glance of the reason. It seemed the large fan did help out after all. It was now spread open showing its golden beauty. Shisei only saw this for a nano second as his body was up and both thumbs jabbed through the eyes of the beast.

Without something blunt to smash the herbivore, Shisei only had one option and that was to go for a soft area. The creature shrieked out and immediately smashed both bodies into the wooden wall. The viper child made sure not to let go though. His right thumb remained in the eye of the animal while his other hand went into the slit in the animals throat and began to squeeze the first organ has palm came across. This time the deer made a frightful gurgle followed by drops of spit and mucus. It slammed the white boy into the wood frame once more. This time Shisei had no choice but to let go. His body slumped down and watched as the deer took a few steps in the opposite direction. It was looking for an escape, but only managed to take a few steps before falling to ground. It never returned to its feet.

Gold eyes watched the deer’s movements till it fell. The twin suns then stared at the golden fan that lay open on the floor, before they came to stare at his hands. Both limbs ivory color were lost to blotches of brick red. It was as if someone painted the serpent’s hands in red. “Such a grotesque color…” the youth muttered to himself. His eyes then glanced over to see Orika’s progress. She seemed to be ok with her prey. Karite had gone missing after his quarry though. For now he’d watch and see if an opening presented itself. It would be either that or follow the reaper to make sure he was ok.

Karite was determined to help bring this deer down. So far anytime it was just him and Kore, Kore seemed to excel. No this time. Pushing his body through the frozen foliage his body brushed past leaves and trees following the white tail in front him like it was golden nector for his body. Moving the deer tripped up and Karite took his chance. Jumping and using a branch he swung forward and jumped on the deer wrapping a arm around its neck. The deer went down hard and with that the hunt was back on. The deer was down and Karite was in the right position to finish the job.
He was going to bring all this meat back to Maya and maybe she would treat her differently. Maybe then she would see he wasn't someone to be shamed of. He was worthy of holding the Tategami name. He was worthy of being Kore's partner.

Kore followed behind Karite the best he could but the deer had hurt his shoulder more then he thought and he was sluggish. Being slung around like that didn't help him in either. Karite was speedy and wasted no time in picking up on a chance to strike against the deer. He was learning quickly and it showed. In how the boy was acting now. That mark though, what did it mean and why did Maya carve it into the boys face? that was irrelevant now. It was time to finish what the had started.

Karite was prepared to take out the deer's life, but unfortunately the deer was not giving up on life so soon. As Karite was about to finish the job the buck bucked sending the boy flying onto the ground, but the deer did not run. It knew its time was coming and now was a time to fight. Karite smiled and bowed at the animal. Paying respects to his opponent and prey. "Fight, please make this worth my while. I will make sure you do not die in vein." Gripping his staff he ready himself as kore rounded the trees and slid to his side. "Kore lets make this fight worth the food it will bring us. Karite's hands gripped the staff he held tighter like someone was trying to pry away his favorite toy. The hairs on his arms stood as they always did right before the first strike. A hunters stance he called it.

Kore ran only to find the deer standing and Karite just standing and now he knew that this was what it came down to. the prey finally grew a pair of testicles and decided it was better to die fighting then to die with the marks in his back side. Sliding next to Karite Kore growled and lowered himself to the ground. That pretty little neck belong to him and he was going to enjoy ripping it out of the deers body. The cubs growl turned into a roar which echoed in the empty forest. It was not one to scare the deer simply to tell it to bring everything he got. All three parties were tired and it was cold. Time was of the essence for them all, but two were walking out of this alive and deer was not one of them.

Batsu scowled deeply as he weaved in and out of the branches of the dreadful forest. Batsu was a fairly tolerant bird. He took things lightly and, as long as Z was safe, didn't overreact often. But this was serious. 'Seriously what kind of bird steals another bird's lunch!?' He thought to himself, increasing his speed in anguish. Mikata had gone a bit overboard with Z sick and had made some rather extravagant food. He could smell the thief but was still unable to see him. 'Whoever it was better expect a wallop when I get my beak on them.' He thought as a vengeful smirk took over his sharp, literally, features. He hated being this deep into the Forest of Sorrows but damn did he want his fish. Oh he would get his alright. Batsu tried to calm down to keep himself from losing his rationality.

Oh how Batsu craved that meal. Z's recovery had given Mikata some time off so there was little chance of it being recreated anytime soon. He wished a quick and painful death upon the thieves for taking advantage of him. He had only left it alone for a few moments to see Z off. He hadn't even given a thought that anyone or thing would dear take his wonderful snack. Him a powerful Hawk eagle going under ninja training? Who would dare? He was soon to find out. He seethed to himself as he flew thinking of multiple ways to rend the vile scum limb from limb. Batsu almost tumbled head over tail as he realized that he had past the scent. He scolded himself for getting distracted from his all important purpose.

He made a quick u-turn around a tree at the realization. The scent of the thief was slightly muted due to him flying through it himself. He wasted no time and focused himself to retrace the scent and his flight line. Paying more attention this time, he began his flight. He crushed any nagging thoughts with a hammer of determination and single mindedness. After about thirty seconds of fast back tracking he saw a ruffle in the bushes. 'Aha!' He thought to himself. He was a bit above a clearing with some marshland and bushes but very few trees to get in the way of his flight. He zoomed in towards the bushes.

Before Batsu was able to catch the villain the scum caught him. Well, passed him anyway. The culprit zoomed out of the bush and for a split second Batsu could see his lunch bag in the b*****d's beak. Then just like that, the thief passed him and soared out of his range of vision. By the time Batsu counteracted his own momentum and turned around the bird was gone. Batsu was not about to let this jerk make a fool out of him this way. He landed on the soft, peaty ground and kept his ears and eyes open. He tried to focus on the bushes in the area the thief had flown off to.

As he concentrated on his senses, Batsu blocked everything not relevant to retrieving his lunch out of his mind. His face contorted oddly in a combination of frustration and concentration. THe bushes the the thief has flown off to were fairly distant from each other so Batsu would be able to see if it tried to move from one of the bushes to the other. He knew if he just dived in their he could get the wrong bush and give the rapscallion a chance to escape without Batsu noticing. That was not an acceptable possibility. He began to make slow progress towards the bushes. He made sure to keep all of them in his vision at the same time as he moved so that the sneaky little b*****d wouldn't be able to slip out of his view.

Batsu had hoped for some sign of movement as he moved forward. He had no such luck. Maybe he was making his advancement to obvious. His claws made a slight squishing sound on the soft ground. Most wouldn't be able to hear it but he was sure a bird could. Flying wouldn't work either as his wings flapping would be even louder than the light squishing of the marsh. He stopped advancing for a moment to listen more carefully. He heard a very slight rustling near the right side of the group of bushes. He eliminated the two on the right as suspects and turned a bit so he was pointed more towards the middle of the group of shrubs that the sound had come from.

Batsu tried to make his steps as gentle as possible for a bird of his size. He did this not only to keep the thief from knowing if or from where he was coming from but also because the sound of his steps was distracting him as well. Batsu was a fairly good walker as far as Hawk-Eagles go. Some birds only walked when necessary but Batsu, being the friend to humans that he was, often walked for the heck of it. Just to see what being more human was like. It was fun but nothing like the freedom of flight. His thoughts almost distracted him from another rustle in the bushes. The movement was coming more from the middle of the arrangement than from the left.

Batsu sped up his approach a bit. His small heart was almost bursting with excitement. He wanted to tear the thief's throat out and do a little jig on his corpse before finishing his lunch. Batsu pushed the thoughts of victory out until he actually had his prey in his beak. He could hear the rustling getting slightly louder as he got closer. He could tell exactly which bush the bird was in and could estimate just about where in said bush he was hiding. With little more thought than of capture, Batsu leaped into the bush and tried to tackle it to the ground.

The deer's shook its head furiously as it howled in pain, the echoing cry like a stake to the heart. The very pain emanated from the animal left no doubt as far as its intelligence was concerned. It knew that with a broken jaw, it was doomed to die, whether now by this girl's metal rod or by starvation later on. Hissing, the deer veered round to reveal its bloodshot coal-black eyes, damaged from internal bleeding from its jaw. The thick liquid trickled out like bloody tears. A hearty stream of red also spurted out of the animal's mouth, showing through stained crimson teeth that splattered out with each huffing breath the animal took. Also huffing from the blow and the prolonged hunt, Orika danced backwards, holding her club in front of her as if wanting the object to protect her from the deer, which was now foaming at the mouth. She could smell the metal in the air from the combined gore spouting from the three deer, although from the corner of her eyes, the girl saw that Karite had led his deer elsewhere and Shisei's was dead in a bloody pool. She scarcely looked back before the animal, in all its understandable rage, charged at her. Its head was lowered and tilted to one side, exposing the sharpest, pointiest of its antlers towards the human who had condemned it to a painful death.

Orika's eyes lit up when she noticed a flaw in the deer's attack. It's eyes were to the side, where it couldn't focus on her except by smell, which only told it that she was in front somewhere. She could use the deer's blind spot to her advantage and finish the beast before it could suffer anymore. As its antlers waved back and forth, the farm girl waited for a moment to jump in and crush its windpipe. It was funny, that she'd just gotten a club and was now wishing for a nice long ranged weapon again. A good throw of the shuriken would have been a lot safer than going tooth and nail against a fully grown buck. Orika watched the deer (whom she'd named Deery) swerve to the far left and jumped in, club swinging down to catch it on its other jaw. However, the deer turned its head back just in time, causing the girl to missed. Orika couldn't jumped back in time and was consequently struck by the deer's wildly swinging antlers. It trapped her in between the spokes, tearing at her dirty sleeve before knocking the girl to the ground.

She could see the hooves right above her head, reading to stomp down and crush her skull. How amusing, that she should be the one with the broken crown instead of her prey. But, nay, it wasn't to end this way. Orika held her club above her head like a staff, with both hands on the ends. The deer's hoof came down on the metal with a loud clang and heavy vibrations that sent the girl's arms into involuntary shivers. Any weaker material would have broken in two. She'd have to thank Shisei for being wise, but that would have to wait until she could ensure she'd be among the living. The girl rolled to the side and landed on her left foot, still holding the club above her head in case the deer was smart enough to turn and attack her there. No? Dumb beast. Orika sprang to her foot and hopped off to one side, noting that the deer had already turned its bloody head her way and thus there's be no way to make a sneak attack; She was simple not fast enough on one foot. She had to fight fire with fire and antlers with force.

The girl scanned the area, looking for anything to use to her advantage. She needed for something to keep the deer's antlers out of the way, someplace with lots of low hanging brambles. "Hey, over here!" Orika yelled, throwing a pebble at the deer's hind as the animal turned round and round, its sight quickly fading with the deterioration of its eyes. So much for a trophy; All that was left was the meat. She lowered her head and dashed off into a nearby thicket, wrapping her cast leg around her good one so as not to slow her down. There was no doubt that the deer possessed the speed to take her down, but it kept running into trees with a sickening CRASH. So, what was supposed to be a 5 second chase through thickly brambled territory turned into at least a 2 minute run. Orika pushed her way through a net of vines and suddenly found herself in an open meadow. She just stared at the unfortunate setting while the deer roared at her from behind. Well, no choice now. If she let it into the meadow, she'd lose it for sure. The girl brandished her club and struck out, aiming right between the deer's eyes, but her attack was stopped just before when the deer dipped its head and bashed its head into her knees.
