Jasna sighed and said, "If you say so. I don't like Michael, excuse me, Burner, because he acts like he's the best at everything. Where's this Cron kid? I'd like to meet a kid who can take Burner off his high horse." ~ Litha laughed inwardly. "I told you, Cron thinks new kids are a waste of space and time. So he'll ignore you for the rest of his existance. He's as big a jerk as Brian and Michael put together." She turned to Kaen. "It's okay for you to aid one of the challengers, but you can't battle in place of someone. One boy got expelled for trying to protect his puny little brother. Anybody can aid. But there are no seconds in these duels. The only limit is that you're not supposed to kill your opponent. Just maim him or her." ~ Jasna smiled wryly when she heard this. Awesome. I get to help Blaze take Burner down. That a*****e will get what he deserves. ~ Burner glared and his fireball glowed stunningly white. Then Burner sighed. "Why don't you have brains, Blaze? You don't even have the brawn to make up for your lack of brains! You will lose. We are evenly matched in fire. I can guarantee that. But I would beat you if fire was banned from this match. And if I recall, as the challenged, I get to set the rules, no? And since the match hasn't officially started because no contact has been made, I can still call new rules. So no fire." The shield and fireball disappeared. "The other elements ONLY. If you use fire, you're disqualified. You can use heat, just not literal fire." Burner took a deep breath and let a freezing wind blow at Blaze. It didn't last very long because Burner was built to burn things, not freeze them. He used different variations of attack using only the other elements, but he got more and more frustrated because nothing managed to really reach Blaze. He almost used fire, but paused. He whispered, "It's your turn."

Kaen smirked as she walked to the exit. "Burner isn't too bad, once you get past his flirting attempts. Believe me. Burner's smart enough to know to back up once he sees me join this fight. I'm not going to be Brian's little pet, ever. Jasna, wanna help me kick an idiot's a**?" ~ Frost reached the edge of the fight and watched as Burner declared the rules. Frost groaned internally. Blaze can barely control his own fire, let alone another element! ~ Rikka walked outside to see the fight start. "Oh!" ~ Blaze scowled as Burner insulted him and declared the rules. "Fine, no fire." He dropped the shield and the fireball. "I may not be as buff as you, Burner, but I'm faster." He crouched near the ground and started to mumble. He drew a symbol on the ground and smirked as the dirt started lifting. Blaze finished the symbol and watched as the earth near Burner was thrown at him. "Eat that!" He didn't realize that Kaen had stepped outside with Jasna and Litha behind her. Kaen walked up to Frost who was staring in disbelief. "Hey, Frost. Any rules these knuckleheads set before I got here?" Frost jumped back, he didn't notice Kaen either. "Yeah... They can't use fire, only the other elements." Kaen frowned as she held up her hand. "Am I exempt from these rules?" Frost shook his head. "Nope, anyone joining has to follow the same rules." Kaen scowled. "Damn, there goes my strongest. Oh, well. I know enough air to kick Brian into a ditch." Frost turned and saw her evil smile. "Don't kill my brother, I'd have a hard time explaining to my mother about why my younger brother was sliced to bits during a duel." Kaen scoffed. "Yeah, yeah. Tell your mom not to worry, I'm just going to rough him up. A lot." She stepped closer and switched to using wind alchemy. She pushed the earth that was flying toward Burner back into it's place. "10% luck, 20% skill, I'm so ready to kick your a**, Brian."

Jasna whispered to Kaen, "I had more of the idea to kick Burner's a**. I agree that Blaze is more of an a*****e, but Burner deserves it more from my point of view. And I'm excellent at water, as you know, so this duel will be over in a few minutes. Litha, care to help?" Litha snorted, "No problem. Michael, you'd better run home for mommy because you're about to be iced." With that, Litha nodded to Jasna and Jasna froze Burner's feet to the floor and Jasna made it rain on Burner, making it impossible for Burner to see or duck out of the way. Jasna turned to Kaen and said apologetically, "Look, as much as I'd like to ice Brian, Burner's just really ticking me off, so I think I'd rather aim at his head than Blaze's." ~ Burner ducked the dirt and caused it to turn around and aim at Blaze's head. But Burner gasped as his feet where cemented to the floor and it began to rain on his head. Damn you Litha! Why are you dragging Jasna in to drown me?! It's not going to benefit you that much if I die from being drowned. Then he remembered Blaze. He was extremely tempted to use fire to melt the ice on his feet but he knew he couldn't without being disqualified. So he tried to use some wind to force the raincloud away so that he could see. But Litha was too good and his vision remained blurred. Using what he knew, he forced vines to form a cocoon around Blaze and sputtered, "Let's see you get out of that!" ~ Litha grimaced and whispered, "Hey, Jasna, you control my cloud and I'll get rid of the vines, okay?" Jasna nodded and Litha told the vines to recede into the ground. Then she regained control of the cloud and smiled. Jasna gave her a sideways glance and Litha immediately knew that they had identical ideas. They let the ice melt and soak Burner's shoes and the cloud disappeared. Burner relaxed for a moment then tensed because he knew what was coming. Litha and Jasna let a hailstorm and a water cyclone beat Burner up. ~ Burner yelped as the huge pieces of hail hit him. He called out, "Fine, Blaze! You win!" and the hail disappeared and the cyclone that was about to make him throw up from being so dizzy vanished. He doggedly said, "Blaze, you're cheap. You didn't win that by yourself! Because of the stupid rules, Litha and Jasna got to beat me up because they're so great at water alchemy. You didn't win that fair and square. I'm challenging you to a duel where nobody can help you and ONLY fire alchemy is allowed. Deal?"

Blaze smirked and opened his mouth to respond, but got a blue fireball thrown at him. He jumped backwards to avoid it, nearly falling over. Kaen scowled angrily. "Oh, Hell no! Brian didn't win, all he did was throw some dirt! Litha and Jasna won. Burner, this just became my fight. Back off." The undercurrent of her threat hung in the air. She turned toward Litha and Jasna. "You two aren't helping. I wanted Burner to win that pathetic tag-team brawl to show Brian he had no chance. You won't interfere in this one." Blaze looked panicked. "Wait! I don't fight girls!" Kaen turned back to him and growled. "Too bad. You pissed me off." Kaen raised her hands and summoned two blue fire-balls. "Here's my rules. No helpers, they'll only get hurt. Use whatever you like, it won't make any differences. I'll be using what I want to kick your a**!" She threw one of the fireballs at Blaze. Blaze dodged and brought back the fire shield. Kaen threw the other fireball, which Blaze blocked. The shield shattered as the fireball collided with it. Blaze dropped to his knees and grabbed at his newly burnt hand. "OW!" Kaen smirked. "Seen the light? Ready to quit the charade and cut the crap?" Blaze stood up and nodded. "Yeah. Guess it's time to knock it off." He raised his arm and threw a fireball at Kaen, who caught the full blast. "OW!!" She fell backwards, but got up just as quickly. "Finally getting serious!" Her smirk grew into a full smile. She seemed happy that Blaze quit going easy on her. "Hit me with your best shot!" Blaze clenched his teeth and threw another fireball, which Kaen dodged. "Come on! No being chicken!" She rushed forward and punched at Blaze. Blaze knocked her fist away and punched her in the stomach. "I'm sorry!" Kaen stumbled backwards, still smiling. "Come on! That can't be your best!" She kicked Blaze square in the chest, pushing him back and knocking the wind out of him. He fell on his knees gasping. "*Koff* That *Ung* wasn't fair..." Kaen put her fists on her sides. "Please, no rules except no help and no restrictions. Burn me, Blaze. Or was I right that you're too chicken to fight a girl for real? If you don't fight back, you'll just lose." She rushed at Blaze, who jumped backwards and swung his leg under Kaen's feet. She fell over, grabbed his leg, pulled him down, and leapt back to her feet. "Stop going easy on me and fight, damn it!" She summoned another fireball and threw it at Blaze. He rolled over and jumped back to his feet. "Sorry, Kaen. I'm not going to hurt you." Kaen scowled. "Then I'll hurt you!" She rushed forward again and punched at him. Blaze grabbed her fist and pulled her toward him, with his other hand he punched her in the face, sending her backwards. "I'm sorry..." Kaen sat up and spit out some blood. "Ow." She rubbed the side of her face and glared at Blaze. "Why do you keep saying sorry? I'm trying to hurt you and you're fighting back. That's nothing to be sorry for." She stood up and took the rubberband out of her hair. "I'm going to get serious. You better too if you want to escape unscathed."

Jasna's eyes glinted. Then she rolled her eyes. "Fine, Kaen..." Litha gasped at Jasna's reaction. "You're just going to let her do this?!" ~ Burner sighed and relaxed. Let her show Blaze up. It sure saves me a hell of a lot of work... ~ Jasna said, "Yeah. I'm challenging the a*****e over there to a duel now." Litha smiled. "Awesome idea. Need my help?" Jasna thought for a moment. "Maybe... But I somehow doubt that. You'll see why... But I'll be fine for a while if I don't win on my own. Gauge the battle and help when you think I need it most." Then she turned and yelled. "Hey, MICHAEL!!! Want to duel ME instead?" ~ Burner heard Jasna yell to him and thought, Damn it! Not again... He sighed. "Fine, Jasna." Jasna got into position and said, "Ladies first, no? How's this? Neither can use our trumps. For me, that's water. For you, that's fire." What he doesn't know is that I'm actually pretty good at fire and wind alchemy. Burner nodded. "Okay. You ready? Cause here it comes!" Burner sent a very basic water spiral to surround Jasna. She easily blew it away using air alchemy. Burner caged Jasna using vines and she nearly panicked. But then she laughed. "Michael, there are so many things you don't know about me. You're going to regret accepting my challenge." She summoned a fireball that was much better than the one that she had summoned earlier. She placed it against the vines and they burst into flame. "I'm better at Fire than you would think right? But my father was a Water Alchemist, as you know. But my grandmother was a Fire alchemist, which you didn't know. And my mother was an expert at Air alchemy. I don't have any traces of Earth alchemy so that's a weakness. But face it. I'm beating you." Then Jasna sent a huge whirlwind at Burner. Burner grunted and tried to withstand it. He made a simple river of ice and the wind slid along the ice back towards Jasna. Jasna was tempted to just melt the ice, but she remembered to use fire. The whirlwind went back at Burner with a huge fury. He gritted his teeth and stood his ground as best he could. Jasna laughed. "You're going down. You may not think you are, but you'll give in soon enough."

Frost watched both fights. "Damn...." ~ Rikka backed against the cafeteria door. "Oh, no..." ~ Brian held up his hands. "No way! I'm not gonna hurt you!" Kaen rolled her eyes. "This is a duel, Brian. Either fight me, or get burned. Your pick." Blaze walked up to her and put out his arm. "Burn me then. I won't hit you again, I was taught not to." Kaen smacked her forehead. "You bloody IDIOT! I want to fight! So get off your high horse and fight me!!" She punched him in the chest. Blaze flinched but didn't try to defend himself. Kaen kept punching him, harder. "Damn. It. Why. Won't. You. FIGHT?!" She spit out each word between each punch, until she punched him in the jaw, pushing him back. "FIGHT ME!" Blaze shook his head. "No." Kaen clenched her fists. "Then you're not worth my time." She turned and started walking back to the cafeteria. Rikka flinched away from the door as Kaen slammed it open. "Don't bother talking to me again, Blaze."

Jasna waited for Burner to say something. He just stood there, looking at her as though she was insane. She rolled her eyes and said, "Look, you want to duel me or not?" Burner grimaced and said, "I can't hurt you. Litha, definitely. You..." Jasna sighed and threw fireballs at Burner's head until one caught his head and his hair caught fire. "See you later!" she called as he began looking for the bathroom hysterically. Jasna ran over to Kaen and said, "You okay? Or just pissed off?"

Kaen started yelling, loud enough for everyone outside to hear. "He's a bloody moron and I never want to see his idiotic face again!!!" She bolted for her room. Rikka stepped inside as Kaen ran. "That was horrible..." ~ Frost winced as Kaen shouted. He shook his head as he walked over to his brother. "Dude... I don't even know what to say." He turned and threw a light stream of water on Burner's hair. "I'm sorry I got angry at you earlier. You walked in at a sensitive time...." He sighed and pat Burner's shoulder. "Good luck." You're going to need it.

Burner looked at Frost warily, "Thanks... I guess." ~ Jasna looked after Kaen with a worried expression on her face. Kaen... It'll be all right. Litha walked over to Jasna and said, "Hey, you okay?" Jasna let out a little laugh and said, "Yeah... I'm okay, but I'm a little worried about Kaen." Litha smiled sadly and whispered, "She'll be okay." Jasna shook her head and turned to Litha. "I think I'm going to go back to my room now. I'll talk to you later, okay?" Litha nodded and Jasna went back to her room. She paused for a moment next to Burner then used the water Frost had provided and turned it to steam. She promptly set Burner's hair on fire again and made an cylindrical hat for him from ice she conjured. ~ Burner tried to put out the flames, but he couldn't reach his hair because the ice was too thick. He melted the ice using some fire, but his hair still smoldered even after the fire had been put out. Damn you... Litha watched Burner as she tried to stifle a giggle.

Blaze sat on the ground and looked down at his hands. "I'm a goddam idiot and deserve to be iced for my stupidity..." Frost sighed and walked back over to his brother. Blaze looked up as Froat put out his hand. "Come on. Up. No sense in moping over a girl that didn't like you." Blaze took his brother's hand and stood up. "Thing is... I think she started to. During the fight, she seemed... happy to be fighting with me. When I refused, it made her angry..." Blaze put his hand to his face. "I completely lost that fight. She could have roasted me at anytime... She, not only held back, but... She called me Blaze... She's been calling me Brian ever since we met. Now I'm just Brian again..." Blaze looked up at Burner, but was feeling too horrible to even laugh. "I still should've taken some damage, all she did was punch me, and bruises fade. A burn would've marked me as a loser..." He sighed and put his hand to his face. "I'm an idiot." Frost smiled and pat his brother on the shoulder. "Congrats, dude. You've finally learned." His brother looked at him oddly. "What the Hell are you talking about?" Frost laughed. "You finally learned how weak you are against others! That you weren't a match for her! Maybe now you'll find a girl who'll actually like you and give you a second look!" Blaze looked glum. "That's not gonna happen. She was the only girl I tried this hard for... Not even Natalie was worth this." Frost cringed when Blaze said the name. "That one was a lying b***h anyways. You never would have known what she was doing..." Blaze smiled sadly at his brother. "Guess I'm still a little a** with too much ego." Frost smirked and smacked the back of his brother's head. "Congrats! You've finally accepted that you can't win them all." Blaze shrugged and smirked. "Meh, I'll probably go back to my egocentric self tomorrow just to annoy the detentioneers." ~ Kaen slammed her door and collapsed on her bed. She felt the energy drain from her system, being replaced with fatigue and a mix of emotions that she really wished she could ignore, but couldn't. She felt anger, fear, sadness, and happiness all mixed in the pit of her stomach. "Why am I feeling this way? Just because another idiot went and pulled a stunt?" She thought about her home. "I was like that once, I guess... I wanted attention, so I made trouble... Now I'm paying for it." She rolled onto her back and searched through her pockets. She pulled out the detention slips and read the dates. "Ugh! One's tonight. The other's for tomorrow..." She sighed and put her arm on her forehead. It felt cold. "Been a long time since I felt cold..." She sighed and closed her eyes, letting her exhaustion take over. ~ Rikka sighed and walked into the cafeteria. People were crowded against the windows, hoping to see another fight. "Blaze got his a** kicked!" "Only because that girl's insane! Did you see that stunt she pulled in Fire?" "OMG! Burner's so cute! I can't believe Jasna's turning him down!" "More for us then, hon. Can you believe that Blaze actually called Burner out though?" "He didn't have the guts!" "I saw the drawing! It's totally true!" Rikka sighed and focused her ice abilities. She sent a frozen blast of air through the crowd. "HOLY s**t!" "OMG! THAT'S COLD!!!" "WHAT THE HELL?!" Rikka took a deep breath. "SHUT UP!!!" The crowd silenced. Rikka pushed away a stray lock of hair. "The fights are over, there's nothing to see. Now move before I do that again."

Jasna saw Rikka ice the bystanders and smiled. She walked over and looked at the crowd. She immediately recognized Burner's ex-girlfriend and walked over to her. "Look, I know you and your crowd thinks that Burner is oh-so-amazing. He's cute. I guess. But you guys, all of you? You need to see past the surface. Learn it well, or I'll make sure you do. And trust me, Rikka's bite is NOTHING compared to mine. So you all had better watch your backs." Jasna turned around and headed to her dorm. She paused for a moment and turned around and made a huge raincloud appear over the group. She also set fire the the grass on the lawn. Chaos reigned and Jasna headed back to her room. She pulled the Detention slips out of her pocket. Damn. Today, tomorrow and the day after. Man, these teachers are STRICT. Three days of detention for mouthing off at another student. What is with them? ~ Litha walked over to Burner and said, "If Jasna is being too much of a b***h for you, I'm still available." Then she turned around and headed off to her room to study. ~ Burner shook his head. He saw the crowd outside the window and walked out. They girls cheered as he walked out. They screamed, "Oh my god! Burner you are sooo hot when you duel!" Burner acknowledged them with a smiled and tried to push past, but there were too many. "Burner, why didn't you just burn Jasna to pieces. You're just SUCH a gentleman." Burner laughed and said, "Just doing what I was raised to." When he really couldn't get through, Burner sighed and said, "Guys? Later okay? I need to get back to my room to study!"

The girls didn't move an inch. If anything they tried to get closer. Rikka sighed and sent another blast of cold air, directing it away from Burner. The group scattered violently. Rikka walked up to Burner. "Follow me for a second." She led the way through the crowd. ~ Kaen woke up and sighed. She'd been dreaming of her home again. "When memories visit you in your dreams, you know you've got too much on your mind..." She sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed. "Soon I'll have to go to class and face whoever wants to talk about that damn duel..." She thought about how she freaked out when Jasna asked if she was ok. "I need to learn to be a little more mellow. Maybe people would quit assuming I'm a homicidal maniac...." She sighed again as she stood up. "I'll skip my next class. They won't miss me." ~ Frost walked his brother past the crowd of Burner fan-girls. A few shot him some dirty looks. A few more got ready to set fire to something. Blaze sighed. "This is going to haunt me for the next few weeks..." A girl turned and yelled at him. "a*****e!!!" Blaze hung his head. "If I'm even that lucky." He shook off his brother and walked to his next class. The teacher was looking down a list of students. She looked up and smiled at Blaze. "Why hello! I wasn't expecting you to come in early. So, tell me, Blaze. How's your day going?" Blaze sighed sadly. "Well..." The teacher put her clipboard down. "What's wrong, Blaze? Did something happen?" Blaze hung his head. The teacher pointed to a desk. "Sit, I wanna know what's up." Blaze started with Kaen. How at first he thought she'd be in awe by a guy who already knew how to summon a fire without runes, then nearly got roasted. How he made the bet with Burner and it backfired. Then he got to the fights. He stopped before he came to Kaen's fight. The teacher smiled sadly at him. "Sounds rough. It seems you won though, right?" Blaze sighed. "Not really... After that fight I fought Kaen... She could have burned me to a cinder at anytime but she resorted to combat rather than alchemical ability..." He put his head on the desk. "I forgot. She found out my real name when she first met me, she'd been calling me Brian for a while. But during the fight... She called me 'Blaze' and I'm not sure if she was starting to like me or just hate me a little less.... I refused to fight her though and she got angry at me. Instead of burning me, she just walked away." The teacher smiled. "Well, I could tell you what you want to hear, I could tell you what I think I'm understanding, or I could say you need to talk to her, without flirting or starting a fight." She tilted her head to the side. "What do you think I should do?" Blaze sighed. "I think there needs to be a fourth option. Can you just bash my head in with a textbook or something?" The teacher patted Blaze's hair. "Still a fluff ball. I'm going to have to say, 'No, I can get thrown in jail for that' and send you off on your journey. But I can help with some advice." Blaze looked up. The teacher smiled brightly. "Instead of your usual approach, and instead of Burner's plan, why don't you just leave her be? Give her some space? Maybe you were smothering her and she didn't like it. I know you don't like being smothered. No flame ever does." Blaze smiled crookedly. "You know, that's a very good description of us both. Flames. She's a poweful, bright, hot blue flame. I'm a weak little red candle light..." He frowned again. "I guess that's the best I have right now. I guess it's time for me to stop being an idiot. Thank for your help, Ms. Demet." She smirked. "I'm not Ms. Demet, My name's Ash. You know that, Blaze." Ash stood up and pat Blaze on the shoulder. "You're a smart kid. You know what to do, I just shed a light on the big picture so that you could see it more clearly." She flicked her fingers and brought up a yellow flame. "See? Just a tiny flame helped you solve the problem. There's no power or heat, just fire. No one's better or worse, just practiced and under-practiced. Now what should an under-practiced fire-user to do?" Blaze smirked. "I'm just going to have to practice my butt off then... You know, it sounds a lot weirder when you can't curse." Ash smirked. "One of my main rules! No breaking it now." She picked up her clipboard and read the list again. She frowned slightly. "Is Kaen spelled K-A-E-N?" Blaze looked up again. "Huh?" Ash turned the clipboard to Blaze. "This her name? She's got this class next."

Jasna set the detention slips down on her desk and got her Earth books. Damn it! I hate Earth... I'd much rather just skip. Can't though. Not unless I want more detention. Jasna sighed and walked to her classroom. The teacher looked up and asked in a snooty tone, "Jasna Prain, right?" Jasna nodded and sat down in the back of the room and waited for the other students to come in. ~ Burner quickly followed Rikka so that he wouldn't get smothered by the girls. One girl with long brown hair and blues eyes followed him. She smiled sweetly and said, "Hi Burner. Remember me? I'm Amelie from Alchemy camp two years ago. I wasn't in any of your groups because I'm a year younger, but I remember you!" Burner frowned then laughed. "Yeah! Amelie Turner! I remember you! I remember that day when you walked up to me and out of nowhere hugged me for giving you my first successful iceball. You were... in Earth though, right?" Amelie nodded and said, "That's me!" She continued to follow Burner and paid no attention to Rikka. Burner turned to Rikka and asked, "Did you want to tell me something?" ~ Litha grabbed her books and ran to Fire class. She saw Burner talking to Amelie and walked over. "Hey, Amelie! We've got Fire now. Mr. Tyone won't want us to be late. You know that 2 seconds late is a week of detention and more than that is a month." Litha tugged Amelie's arm and dragged her to Fire class. Amelie called, "Bye Burner! It was nice to talk to you!" as Litha dragged her away. They managed to arrive just before Mr. Tyone started calling roll. They sat down in the back of the room and listened to the crazy old man.

Rikka shot Litha a grateful look. "Yeah, Burner. I need to talk to you about Blaze and Kaen, not to mention you and Jasna." She blushed a bit, but tugged at a stray lock of hair. "First, I want to know what's up with Kaen and Blaze. Second, what did you do to make Jasna dislike you so much?" ~ Frost sighed. He walked through the halls until he got to Fire Basics. "Ugh... I hate messing with this one..." ~ Kaen paced in her room, trying to find a solution to her problems. "Burner didn't help much, but he tried. I'll keep my end and help him. Jasna's going to get pulled aside for a little 'chat'. I'll warn Rikka against getting herself stuck in my problems, she's got enough to deal with... I'm going to have to ask her to help me with my temper though..." She stopped and sighed. "I'd rather listen to a teacher than listen to my emotions. I'll head to class..."

Burner sighed. "I don't know. Blaze is in 'love' with Kaen. She, of course, hates him. I gave Blaze a bit of... bad advice. So he's furious with me. As for Jasna, I...I don't know. I guess I flirted with her to make Erin jealous. I don't know why I did it; I mean Erin and I broke up a few weeks ago! And... she's mad now." ~ Jasna watched the other kids goof off as they came in. No one she knew was in the class. She sighed and settled down for the most boring class of the day. ~ Litha leaned across the table and whispered to Amelie, "Stay out of my way and out of Burner's. You can join the other girls in his fan club, but he's mine. Got it?" Amelie rolled her eyes and ignored Litha. Litha grabbed Amelie's arm and made vines twist painfully around it. "Got it?" Amelie nodded and Litha was satisfied.
