Ashtoreth smiled slightly at the girl's failed attempts to hold her laughter as she and Kat made their way over to the duo.

"That isn't so hard to do, so I suggest you just tell him to shove it if he starts ranting." She then turned to Ed.

"So shorty, how's life?" She asked, allowing herself to count in a mental victory as she saw the normal spark in Ed's eye replace the sorrow that had dwelled within their depths.

Frowning a bit at Reina, he shrugged. It wasn't a life or death thing. He could forgive her for assuming that something was wrong with him, because, after all, she hadn't actually called him short or anything. Hearing others approach, he spoke to her. "I don't mind taking you to the office. It's okay. As I believe I mentioned, I need to go there anyway. I've got something to do." With that, his ears perked up at hearing himself being called short by the newcomers. Spinning in place, he whirled to face them and glared daggers in their general direction. Golden eyes that were once filled with sadness were now filled with anger. If there was anything he hated in the world it was his height. Thus hating anything having to do with him being short, such as being called shorty or chibi. "I AM NOT SO SMALL I CANNOT BE SEEN! I AM NOT SO TINY YOU COULD MISTAKE ME FOR A SPECK OF DUST!" With that, he clapped his hands and touched the ground, forming a cage of stone to appear around the newcomers. The slats were not large enough for the girls to get out of immediately. He did, however make them weak enough that with enough force and time, the girls could break out of them on his own. Frowning once more at the new comers, breathing hard after his rant, he spun on heal, grabbed Reina's arm and headed off in the direction of the door. He was going to take her to the office now and get out of there. He didn't want to cause any more trouble nor blow anything else up.
~Reina felt him grab her arm and pull her with much force~umm your kinda hurting me ~she said in a small voice. she looked back at the other girls and frowned~was that really nesaccary(sp?)

Ashtoreth sighed before running after the pair, "Ed, I'm going to the office anyway, and I believe that you'll want to be present for the report I have."
Looking at Reina she grinned slightly, "You can come too, it's always better to have someone who can help restrain the walking time bomb if he decides to go off on someone."

"Well, I guess we could wander together sweatdrop . . . I have one question have you heard about the Fullmetal Alchemist?" Riku asked scratching her head.

Yes, I have actually. Supposedly some midget named Ed or something. That creepy dude who WAS Jinni seemed to be very interested in him....

"Hmm-- he sounds like him. The Fullmetal Alchemist, he most be pretty storng or important for a Sin to want to capture. I've been wanting to test the strength of a state alchemist, do you know have any chance know were he is?"Riku asked, thoughtfully. She offered her map of Central to Kat.

Kat took the map and looked at it. "Well, I wish I could help you, but, like I said, I've never been here before, and...." Kat continued to stare blankly at the map. The piece of paper in front of her probably would have been helpful to most people, but all Kat saw was a tangled mass of nothing.
"... I... can't read maps...." she admitted hesitantly.

Riza_Hawkeye_Chuui
Riza suddenly had a feeling this was going to be a very long day, and they'd better get that coffee while they still had the chance...

After opening the door for her he made the mental note that she was probably a bit reluctant about him coming to the break room with her because of the catastrophe that had occured there the last time he had tried to make a beverage. The place wound up in flames and almost destroyed. New furnishings had to be brought in as well as all of the items in the room had to be replaced.

Smiling softly, he took her arm in his as they headed toward the break room. He decided he'd try not to blow the place to bits today if he couldn't figure out how to make coffee again. Maybe she could show him how. Looking toward the floor, he ambled down the hall toward the break room. He was determined that he would not blow the place up! He glanced over at Riza for a moment, wondering what she was thinking. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable by holding onto her arm.

He had so much on his mind today, he was hoping he could concentrate enough to remember whatever she taught him if she agreed to do so.

Frowning to himself, he figured he'd not mention what he had felt unless it was brought up again by her. He looked toward the breakroom

Smiling softly, he took her arm in his as they headed toward the break room.

Riza stared a moment at his arm linked around hers, having forgotten about the strange sensation in the hallways for the time being, and realized she had her shoulders hunched. She quickly relaxed them and resumed her easy pace alongside Roy. It made no sense in her logical mind why she should have been caught off-guard at all by his actions... After all, they had known eachother for years? What was a linked arm and a side-by-side walk down the hall between old friends?

Er...but then why did she feel her cheeks flushing slightly?

She shook her head quickly and took a deep breath as they approached the break room.

Stepping into the breakroom, Riza quickly unlinked her arm from his [they had to keep up the professionalisms in front of junior officers, after all] and cast her eyes around the tables and, seeing it was relatively empty [and therefore not many would be injured if roy decided to attack the appliances again.], she turned to her senior officer and tilted her head.

"You still take it black, right, sir?" she asked, and didn't want for a response because she knew he did. She reached over and turned on the faucet, filling the coffeepot with water and emptying it into the percolator. "Now, Sir," she managed to say without cracking a smile, "watch and learn..."

"Now, Sir," she managed to say without cracking a smile, "watch and learn..."

He steped up beside her, and watched what she was doing. His deep gray eyes were intent upon the subject matter. He did want to learn how to make this liquid. Sure, he could make blazing pillars appear out of thin air, however, he could not make a simple beverage using these objects people called "cookware". Frowning a bit inwardly, he also noted that the room was virtually empty. Watching Riza from behind he noted every move she made when preparing to make coffee.

silently he observed her, a very serious and slightly scary look opon his face. He was determined that he would make a drinkable cup of coffee the following day and surprise her by bringing her in a cup. Yes. That was what he would do! He wanted to prove that he could learn something, even though it had nothing to do with the job he was attempting to do at Central HQ. He figured that he should pick up a few extra skills here and there. Whether it be cooking or sewing. Frowning to himself, he took note. Hmm... one scoop of coffee grounds, not four...

Riza had to bite her tongue to keep from chuckling. She could feel Mustang's eyes burning behind her, watching as she prepared every step of the simple process of brewing a cup of coffee. She still found it endlessly entertaining that he could create fireworks and the effects bullets and other such very complicated things with the use of his alchemy...but he had difficulty making an everyday beverage with a simple appliance...

She glanced over her shoulder at him.

"Look, see, here was where you made your biggest mistake last time," she said frankly. "You only need one little cup of coffee grindings...not four. One per coffeepot you fill with water."

The laugh she had held at bay managed to escape softly.

"That was why last time, the coffee came out so strong that you..."

She laughed again, then covered her mouth with her hand and resumed making the coffee. She closed the coffee filter and pressed the red button on the bottom of the percolator to start the beverage brewing. She paused a moment, and her smile faded. Her gaze became serious, and she took a deep breath, held it a moment, then released it.

Then she turned and cast her mahogany eyes back at Roy.

"Sir," she spoke up quietly, "if I...may...?" He lifted his eyebrows in acknowledgement to the inquiry, and she fidgeted. "Sir...you tensed up in the hallway at the same time I did...like...something had given you an electric shock to the small of your back..." she accused gently, "and I'm rather confident it had nothing to do with that sudden impulsive taking of my arm..."

Dammit, why was she blushing again??

She frowned, and continued, "I've had a wierd feeling all week...have you been feeling it, too?" Her eyes darkened a little. "Like...something was... I don't know...happening... Like something was converging on the city? Like..." She wrung her hands, looking for the word, then lowered her voice so no one else could hear her words. "Like...something was building up and about to descend upon the whole town...?"

His eyes went darker as she spoke of the matter. He moved a bit closer to her so no one would overhear what they were saying. The frown tugged even more at the corners of his thin lips as he began to talk. Sighing deeply, he raised his hand "Perhaps we should take this conversation back to the office, Riz... eh.. Hawkeye-chuui."

He noticed that the coffee was done brewing. Knowing that he was a few inches taller than she, he reached up and easily opened the cabinets which were a few inches out of Riza's reach. He took two of the mugs and then set them down on the countertop. He reached to the pot and began to pour coffee for the both of them. Once he poured the coffee, he grabbed both and then nodded for Riza to follow. His pace was fairly quick and with a purpose on the way back to the office.

Upon returning to the office, he sat the two mugs down on the desks. It was getting a bit dark outside, it appeared that stormy weather was approaching, and approaching quickly. Noting to himself that there were a few candles around the office that they could use if it got any darker out. Taking a deep breath in, he nodded, his deep gray eyes once again going darker. His neutral lips now dove downward into a frown once more. Looking directly in Riza's eyes, he nodded. "Yes. I did feel something strange yesterday. To be honest, that's what has been bugging me for the past few days. I didn't want to bother you and get you involved in it, but it appears now you've felt it too. I'm not completely sure what's going on, but I intend to find out. It's almost like there's a certain electricity in the air. Nothing has been happening really, but it seems like there's an invisible dark cloud falling on the town. I have a feeling we're on the brink of something here."

Riza was a mite taken aback by his slip. He rarely called her by her first name...even outside of work...unless he was terribly distracted or deeply troubled. Riza didn't like how this was shaping up at all...

She nodded quickly. "Of course, Sir," she said softly, and turned to retrieve the coffeepot, which was now filled with rich sepia-black liquid.

"I have a feeling we're on the brink of something here."

She stood before his desk in silence and nodded once, slowly, an acknowledgement to his words, and picked up her mug. She stirred two tiny packets of sugar into it methodically, and spared a glance to his cup, clasped between his thick hands. She would never understand how he could drink his coffee completely black. Ah, but she supposed whatever floated his boat...

She paused swirling the coffee a moment and cast her eyes out the window, nodding again to his assesment.

"The funny thing is, sir..." she began cautiously, setting the mug down without drinking from it, "it...doesn't strike me as an overly sinister electricity..." Her eyes swung to his. "What about you?" she wondered aloud, squinting a little as she leaned on the desk, her hip resting on the edge of it, but not quite in a seated position. "There's almost something...familiar about it..."

Her thoughts trailed off ambiguously, and she took a sip of the coffee and then hissed softly when it burned her tongue.

He contemplated where the source of energy could be coming from. Looking at his reflection in the steaming black liquid that sat before him, he sighed once more. Inhaling a large whiff of coffee aroma. "You're right. It just seems... very *powerful*. It feels almost familiar too, but I may just be imagining that. However, I'm not completely sure." He shrugged a bit. It had been awhile since he had actually been this open with anyone while talking about business matters. He noted that the power had been both waning but getting stronger at the same time. And indeed, there definately was something familiar about it... very familiar.

Riza set the mug down, irritated at it now for having burned her, then pushed away from the desk.

"Sir...permission to speak freely?"

She didn't wait for his answer.

"I think that, regardless of whether or not it feels familiar...it warrants looking into, don't you? As strong as it is...even if you and i are the only ones who have noticed it...i think we shouldn't just sit here and let it be..."

She saluted crisply [it seemed appropriate at the time] and gave Roy a serious look.

"Sir, I believe it may be in the best interests of the whole city to investigate this further..."--she cast her eyes aside for a moment, as if embarrassed and in fear that the walls would laugh at what was to come next from her lips--"even if we have to do it alone. If no one else has sensed this strange feeling, they may...question our motives--and possibly our sanity-- if we explain and ask for reinforcements..."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 29, 2005 3:27 am

He noted the seriousness in her voice and it seemed true what she said. Indeed it was in the city's best interest that they check into this strange phenomenon. He nodded in agreement that they would probably question their sanity if they were to ask for reinforcements.

Thinking further into this matter, he realized that it was most likely not necessary that they have reinforcements. After all, this energy did not feel malicious in any way whatsoever, thus, it most likely would not be a dangerous issue. However, he didn't mention that he had felt a bit of a malicious energy lying underneath the one that seemed so familiar. This whole concept boggled his mind. Frowning at his cup of coffee, he sighed softly. Slumping back into his chair a bit and closing his eyes, he folded his arms across his chest.

"I agree, we should investigate this first thing tomorrow. As for today... " trailing off, he nodded to the stack of papers.

Riza hesitated a moment, licking her lips briefly. Hm...well, he had agreed with her at first... He had admitted it warranted a closer look...even perhaps put forth the effort to organize it...and then he had gone back into delinquent Roy mode.

Typical.

She sighed and leaned over the desk, picked up a pen, and gently listed it toward him.

"Sir, these here in this pile are all just reports from the junior recruits," she told him, picking up the top sheet and waggling it at him. "I already read them all," she went on, sounding pleased with herself for having lighteend his load a little. "They're all...acceptable. Marginal, some of them...but acceptable... Nothing, I'm certain, like the essays you pumped out during your junior days..."

She hesitated when his eyes grew darker and he leaned forward wordlessly to take the paper from her hand. SHe swallowed once--why was he not speaking?--and pointed to a line on the bottom.

"Ah~... All you need to do with this stack is sign them..." she said, "I saved you the trouble of plodding throug the whole lot."

She nodded and straightened to give him a look that hovered somewhere between sly and apprehensive.
