"See you around," Cassidy waved after Ambrose. "Good luck with the fencing thing." She finished up her salad with a final bite of lettuce, and caught the Dude's wink.
What the hell? Guys generally did not wink at her, or make weirdly vague suggestive comments at her. Ever. Unless they were seriously creepy which the Dude was not. Right? Right. So why was he...? Maybe he was seriously creepy and just really good at hiding it. Or maybe he was winking at Emelyn. That had to be it. Please let it be it. Cassidy was too much of a geek to have guys winking at her. She was probably completely misunderstanding the whole deal, anyway. She was stupid like that. She had no idea how to deal with something like this.
Oh, right. Plan B: Flee.
She tried to swallow the panicky lump in her throat. "I, um. I have to get back to work." She rose from the table, grinning as warmly as she could manage to Emelyn and the Dude. "I'll see you around, though."
She scurried off like a frightened rodent, pausing only to drop off her tray.
((Bed time for me, too. I have GOT to get myself into a semi-normal sleep pattern. Thanks for the RP. <3))

EDIT: Well, we'll assume Emelyn didn't see the Dude winking because she was petting Captain Morgan. Yeah ... that's it.))

Lauren ran downstairs as her new clothes made an incredibly loud noise. The chains on her black jeans clanked loudly but that didn't seem to bother her one bit, she actually liked it. Her hair was still wet from her shower but clean and haphazardly brushed. She wore a red mesh shirt with a black tank underneath that made her naturally nearly platinum blonde hair appear whiter than usual. Across the front 'Thorn' was written in permanent marker. She reached downstairs noticing the lower duplex, #9. She wondered if anyone lived there and if they knew they were being observed. She remembered what the doc told her last night and shuddered at the thought. Creepy... Hunger shrugged the fear away and started to walk towards finding food. She had no clue where this cafeteria was but she knew she wanted tons of food and she was definitely going to find it.

Karma had spent the last few days leaving her room as little as possible. She had surfaced once or twice briefly, aware that she had been able to hear someone or someTHING's presense nearby, but had never actually run across anyone. It was just as well...she wasn't sure she -wanted- to run across anyone. The initial shock of arriving here had passed, as had the anger and the tears.
Her meals had been, agreeably enough, brought to her room and left outside of her door. The deliverer was always gone by the time she reached it, though, which didn't do much for the feeling of total islolation. Today they'd left a note with her food stating that she would be meeting with the counselor tomorrow if situation allowed. She hadn't thought she'd be able to open up to a complete stranger, nor that she'd want to, but she was quickly becoming used to the idea. Even eager to hear another voice. It had lifted her spirits enough that she had decided tonight she might actually attempt to venture out of her room and find the cafeteria.
She HADN'T expected to find herself faced with company quite so soon, however. She'd not gotten ten paces out of her room when the sound of someone pounding down the stairs made her freeze in her tracks like a deer in the headlights as she watched the thin blonde girl bound past with a quick glance at her door, seeming to look her over entirely.
"...hi?" she said quietly, offering a cursory wave. The worst she other girl could tell her was to go to hell, after all. She didn't want to seem rude.

Lauren looked over the timid girl with the dark skin sizing her up. She calculated everything about her. Timid, shy, nervous, quiet but seemed well off enough. She seemed a bit older than Lauren... she was guessing 18 or 19 but then again she was horrible at guessing ages. Lauren herself seemed 21 to most people but in reality she was just approaching 17.
She decided to stop a bit for her but not long. Food was definitely needed badly. She crossed her arms and stood tall trying to appear as tough as possible. Her new shoes made her seem to be 6'3'' and she obviously liked appearing that way. "Hey." She replied. "Whatcha' in for?" She asked. Yeah, seemed like the doc had a thing for young girls. This brought the perv theory back to her mind.

Karma blinked, flinched, and then relaxed when it seemed that the other girl was going to approach her amiably, though she was posturing to advertise her dominance. "I'm..." she began, and then just as quickly stopped, remembering the warning she'd recieved on the way over. That she was not to discuss treatment or details with the others. Wow...first line of the conversation and already she was going to look like a faltering idiot.
"Um..." she cleared her throat. "I don't know, really." she lied. At least it was an answer. "My name's Karma." she offered, fashioning her face into what she hoped was a genuine-looking smile. She'd not really seen a mirror as of late, so she wasn't sure if her haggard moods had reflected in her appearance. "Have you...have you been here long?"

"Won't tell huh?" If there was anything she was good at, it was lying. This allowed her to see right through lies. If only she could see the truth behind them. She had noticed a long time ago the movements in people's eyes and body reflected the lies behind their mind. This girl read like a book. "Well, doesn't matter because I don't really give a damn . I've been here since yesterday." She looked at her nails trying to seem uninterested. "Can't tell you why I'm here either ya know. It's all tight lip top secret s**t." She pretended to know why she was here and make herself seem to be important but she knew the clothing was working against her facade. She looked up, "I'm Thorn by the way. Where were you heading? I'm gonna get some food, the stomach is complaining more than I would like it to."

Karma's smile slipped a notch. Well, at least she wasn't pressing the issue about why she was here. Her eyes gave an almost-reflexive flick to either side of them, looking for wherever the cameras had been hidden. She didn't see them, of course, but knew they were there. Heh...hello, paranoia.
"I was headed there myself." she said. "I've....actually, this is the first time I've tried to find it." The smile was now just an awkward uphitch of her mouth as she realized how utterly...well...lame this sounded. Good thing she wasn't out to impress anybody or she would be failing miserably. "Nice to meet you, Thorn."

Lauren looked her over again. Geese, yeah she wanted to be the tough girl but she didn't want to scare the poor thing to death. "well... I have no clue either really. Maybe between our two sorry selves we can find it?" She started rubbing the top of her slightly damp head. The tropical heat was drying it quickly. "Look I'm starving though, let's get something." the mere thought of food set her trained stomach grumbling. She had taught her mind not to think of it most times but it would forget occasionally, especially when she knew it was soon to come. She hoped there was no limit on what she could eat because it had been a couple of days already.

Karma nodded, the smile broadening slightly. "Right. Right, that sounds good." she agreed, starting forward again and keeping her step slow so that Thorn could come along. Her sleeve moved upward slightly, revealing the slightly-raised knot on her arm where the "immunizations" had been administered. Her body hadn't seemed to react very well to them in the beginning and her entire upper arm had swollen and become an angry purple around the area of the needle puncture, but it had, thankfully, abated.
"I have to wonder if they have Pepsi in a place like this." she thought aloud. She'd been dying for a caffiene fix since she'd been taken away from home. "Probably just more apple juice..."

Lauren walked along wanting to be the one in front. Even her slow stride was a fast walk for the small girl she that tagged along. Always one of the problems with her being so tall. "Pepsi? I try to steer clear of caffeine myself." She waved her arm a bit trying to emphasize her scrawniness. "High metabolism so it makes me feel all hyper and jittery. I would be thrilled at any food right now, just as long as it's not poisoned." Her tummy grumbled loud enough for Karma to hear. "Calm down you" Lauren said looking at her stomach. She was kind of curious. "Did that Doc creep stab you too? He told me it was an immunization. I don't believe him but I don't want to fester with some wild tropical disease and die. So it's kind of a mute point." She shrugged. "gave me some freaky weird dreams..." Her head turned down with the memories of last night's nightmares. Why the ******** did her mom have to be there?! God she missed that woman.

"You too?" she asked, rubbing at her upper arm without really thinking about it and wincing. Still ached a bit. "I haven't had a shot in years. I thought maybe I'd gotten a fever from it and that was why I had such weird..." she trailed off and shook her head. "Guess it doesn't matter, you're right."
A bead of sweat slipped down the back of her neck from the island's heat. This was going to take some definite getting used to after she'd gotten herself acclimated to living in a drier climate for the last twelve years. For a moment, she walked in silence, staying a respectable five paces behind Thorn as she went. "Is there anyone else here? Do you know?" she ventured, deciding it was a safe enough question to ask.

Lauren looked at her arm. She hadn't noticed the swelling yet and wondered if it did give her a fever. Still.... those dreams were really ******** up. She shrugged. "No clue really. The Doc was real short with me, James too. Although I like that James guy more than the Doc. The Doc... well he weirds me out. He's good, real good at covering up his lies but still I know somethings up. No one gives s**t like this out for free and he doesn't seem like no saint." She looked down at her clothes implying that was the 's**t' she spoke about. "So, where ya from." She usually avoided this question but she was bored and it seemed the cafe was forever from their duplex with as little as Karma had spoken.
