Bowing respectfully, Kallista made a noise to Follar. Agreeably, the blue stuck out his foot and waved it at Jessmet. Laughing a little, the runner pulled the blue off her shoulder and held him out to the lady before her. "This is Follar and here is your message, m'lady."
Instantly, her tone of voice had gone from casual to respectful. She was well aware how most of blood prefered to be treated. Some blood was better than others but all deserved the respect for any Holding they had. "He eats what I do not and often times what he is not allowed."

Jess winced at the "m'lady" and carefully removed the message from Follar's leg. "Thank you Follar," she said, giving him a quick pat on the head. "I might have a bit of meatroll in my pocket for you, good sir." Jessmet grinned and glanced at Kallista for permission. "I usually carry some for Az."
Az queeped again and nipped Jess' ear. That was his meatroll! The girl giggled. "Now now, be nice, Az," she instructed the little bronze cheerfully. Hopping back up onto the wall, she cocked her head to the side. "Do you make the run to Rias often?"

"You better feed him before he goes searching in your pockets on his own. I saw you at the Rias TurnOver Gather. Follar came across the table that you and your companions were sitting at..."
Kallista never forgot a face. This one was quickly remember as the girl had always seemed to have a smile on her face. Nodding at her comment about running, Kallista felt the urge to be social. "I have taken over for my elder brother, Ceggar. He has gone back to Ista to train at one of the better stations. I am known to be reliable and fast so my father has put me on the longer runs."

Jess giggled and pulled a good chunk of meatroll out of her belt-purse. Breaking it in half, she held a piece out for Follar, hand flat in case he was prone to nipping fingers.
Az swooped down and yoinked the other (and his opinion, larger) bit. He perched on the wall next to his mistress and gobbled it down. Once the majority was eaten, he picked up each spilled crumb delicately, inspecting them before licking his claws clean. Jess rolled her eyes at his behavior. "Brat," she said, amused.
"Oh, was that you at Turnover? There were so many people, I could hardly keep track of those who actually introduced themselves to me." She nodded thoughtfully. "That's neat, about your running. I never really learned anything useful like that..."

"That was Follar and I. I got caught up at Rias Weyr on my return voyage home." She stared at Az and his keeper with hazel eyes full of curiousity. This girl acted different than most of those of the bloodlines. Perhaps, her family was recently established. It mattered not to her.
Follar had gobbled up the meatroll on the extended hand and then sat down as he cleaned his talons-still on Jessmet's hand. Giving a whistle, Kallista shook her head in amusement. "Silly creatures. I had to work hard with him in order to get him to understand my commands. Nothing fancy. Just some whistles and hand signals. There were many at the gather...I normally don't attend. Running keeps me very busy. It is not so much usual as a neccessity...not all can afford the marks to send message by dragon rider. And flits are far and few between. Follar was a payment for a run, so I got lucky."

"I suppose that's why my mother sent a letter for me this way. Our hold doesn't have a watchdragon, or at least he hardly comes by very often. I hope she doesn't want me home right away..." Jess glared at the rolled-up bit of hide, as if she could scare it into holding good news.
Az watched the blue carefully. This little one was no threat, but it still might try to take his food. D:

"I hope it is not bad news. I hate delivering bad news...and taking my marks from it. Sometimes, if it is too bad I refuse payment and pay the StationMaster out my own marks."
Follar chirped most happily at Az and went up to the little blue. Eyes whirling with curiousity, the little blue nosed at the bronze and made a chittering noise.
"I wonder what he says sometimes. He likes to speak to other firelizards. You can only get so much from a blue."

"It shouldn't be bad, I just don't want to leave the Weyr yet." Jessmet shrugged. Even wandering around aimlessly at the Weyr was more interesting than "learning to be a lady" at home.
"My brother has a little green firelizard," she offered. "She's awfully silly, and since the Hatching, she's got an awfully high opinion of herself. Or so my brother says." Jess giggled, watching the bronze and blue inspect each other. "It's pretty clear that they do speak to each other. And they're supposed to understand dragons."
Az trilled and hopped towards Tollar, sniffing carefully at his face and wings.

"Do have to go home so soon? TurnOver was not that long ago... You should at least stay until after the rainy seasons. I heard there would be another clutch soon."
Not that she cared about clutches nor her father. He was loyal to the dragonriders for protecting their hides and station but he ran a strict station and didn't allow for any fancy ideas about impression. Jessmet seemd at ease in the weyr.
"I am sure they do... Follar is just so full of himself for a blue. I bet he would go up and talk to Ariath if given the chance. She would inhale him."
Follar chirped at that comment and sent feelings of being in darkness. Stretching his neck out, the little blye buried his head in the girl's hair at the thought of being eaten.

"I hope not. I like it here," she said simply. "My parents were supposed to come down for Turnover, but I suppose something came up with one of the cotholders." Jessmet shrugged, not particularly bothered by her parents' absence.
Az squeaked and projected the darkness at Jess, who burst into giggles. "I'm sure Ariath wouldn't eat you. Unless she just didn't see you." She winked at Kallista, trying to keep a serious expression on her face. Az squealed and blinked between.
"Whoops." Jess grinned. "He'll be back. Seems he didn't want to be teased."

Follar chirped unhappily and went back to Kallista's shoulder. Mournful that his friend was no gone, the little blue began to search in the runner's pack for something of amusement.
"My father is the StationMaster so he rarely leaves the hall. We offer roof and room for travellers and well as runners. He is one of the most respected StationMasters in southern."
She rubbed Follars head and shushed him out of her pack. Suddenly her stomach gave a slight gurgle of hunger. Grinning, Kallista laughed at herself. "I guess he is feeling my hunger. Would you want to walk with me to the kitchens. I can pay for my food."

It was soon clear that Az hadn't gone very far. When Kallista mentioned food, the little bronze popped back into view and landed on Jessmet's shoulder. The girl rolled her eyes cheerily. "A trip to the kitchens sounds just fine. And you shouldn't need any marks, the cooks have at least snack foods available all the time for the riders and other weyrfolk." She scooted off the wall and brushed the dust from her behind.

Making a trilling noise, Follar flew off of Kallista's shoulder and to his friend. Food was always nice especially the meats that his bonded gave him. Brushing the dirt of her hands, Kallista nodded. "I just need something to tide me over until I get back to the station."

Az made an odd clacking noise at Follar, his thoughts flinging out tinges of hunger.
"And I think Az and Follar agree!" Jess exclaimed, starting to head towards the Weyr proper.

((two tendays or so before Turn Festival.)) It seemed as though every square inch of the magnificent bronze was now gleaming brightly in the oil. Kyira squinted curiously. "Are we finished?"
She wanted to do more. Than minor tail wound was troubling her. If only because there was perhaps something she could do about it, or maybe because it seemed there was nothing she could do about it. She wanted to be sure. She wanted to get a message to the MasterHealer about it. Soon. Kyira did not like waiting much. The sooner the better. Perhaps before Turn.
