Chapter 10
-Asia’s POV-
“Hey Sam,” I said to the purple-haired girl outside my car. My tinted windows were rolled down, allowing the fresh and crisp fall air to spill into the car.
“Hey. We’re going to the mall, right?”
“Where else do we ever want to go?” Jamia asked her, leaning forward in her velvet seat.
She looked to ponder this for a moment. “Umm…”
“Sam, don’t give yourself a brain hemorrhage. Just get into your car and follow us, okay?” I drawled out every syllable like she was retarded.
“Aye aye captain,” she mock saluted and flounced to her car. She started the ignition and waited for us to pull out.
“She really needs to fix her salute. It’s messed up,” Amira commented as I drove us out of the driveway, Sam trailing straight behind us.
“Yeah I agree. So, off to Gerard’s house?” I asked them.
“Hmm, looking forward to it?” Jamia said, raising her eyebrows suggestively.
“Shut up. I’m so not interested.”
“God, you make him sound so unappealing. He’s not that bad looking,” Amira told me, relaxing in her seat.
“Yeah, well I’m still not even remotely interested. I don’t have time for a boyfriend.”
“Okay sure, but one day when Gerard ends up big for his artwork, you’re gonna wish you’d gotten together with him,” Amira said.
“You know, somehow I think you just jinxed Gerard’s future in the arts,” I told her seriously.
“Whatever,” she said, smiling and rolling her eyes.

“Hey Gerard,” I said with a large grin as he slid into my car.
“Wow, nice Porsche,” he said with disbelief.
“Yeah, we love it too. Hey Asia, remind us again why you don’t hang out with Bradley and Veronica and those materialistic assholes?” Jamia asked me.
“You just answered your own question.”
She had to think about what I’d just said momentarily. Finally, realization dawned on her face. “Oh!” she said, proud of herself for getting it.
“Yeah, alright.” We recognized that Matt and Ray were in the other car and Mikey had quietly squirmed in beside Amira and Jamia who had both decided to sit in the back together since Casey left. I put the car in drive and sped off, Sam struggling to keep pace. I slowed down slightly so that she could catch up.
“So, who wants coffee when we get in?” Amira asked.
“ME!” I exclaimed nearly bouncing out of my seat.
“Me too!” Gerard said loudly.
“Me three!” Mikey said this time, saying something out loud for the first time since we met.
“Hmm, I can see we have two more coffee addicts in the car. That’ll be fun to deal with when we get into Starbucks.”
“Remember when we got kicked out?” Amira reminisced.
“Which time?” I asked them.
“Remember when we thought the cashier looked like Johnny Depp and gave him scissors to put in his sleeves?” We all laughed, except for Gerard, who seemed confused. It was a really cute expression on him. Wait, where did that come from?
“Oh come on, I couldn’t help that! I love Edward Scissorhands!” I told him, ignoring my previous thought.
“Hear hear!” Gerard said.
“Aha, here we are!” I said, excited for my coffee.
“Move over! I want my Starbucks!” Jamia screamed, pushing Amira and Mikey out of her way. We can’t suppress our coffee cravings.
“Are you all always like this?” Gerard asked me.
”Well, we all are coffee-obsessors. We can’t live without it. We understand what vampires have to go through because we’re the same with coffee. And chocolate.”
“Well, onward we go!” Amira said, pointing forward and dashing away, arms extended in front of her like a superhero.
