Well to be completely honest, I only heard by word of mouth that they don't work with metal detectors, I've never been through one so I am not 100% positive. I am however, 100% positive that magnets don't work though.

Digi, you don't even realize what a woman goes through with those metal detectors!

...methinks i dont want to know...

LOL, why not?

idk, it just seems to me that if women have more trouble with metal detectors than men, it's probably not because of something obvious like forgetting to take off a belt or take change out of your pocket (the change thing especially, since women tend to carry purses). and when those simple options are ruled out, it seems to me like the reason may not be something i need to familiarize myself with...

Yeah, Mike, sure... wink

Basically speaking - I always beep when going through this metal detector.

Hey, perhaps I'm pure metal then!

I had to go through a metal detector today since we went to visit the Parliament with our law class today. My belt beeped, but I wasn't the only one.

At airports I always take off my belt and boots and coat and jumper just in case they'd beep. Even after this I sometimes beep, like when I visited my friend in England last month, it was my watch (that has never beeped before) that made the alarm go off. D:

Actually most piercings are made of surgical steel, and surgical steel does not set off metal detectors or work on magnets.

@ Grim Troll: Thats a lot of of piercings. eek

Thats crap, because Nate had scoliosis, and they had to put surgical metal in his back for his spine; and he had to wear a necklace explaining the surgery for when he had to walk through metal detectors they would alarm.

I already told you I am not completely sure about metal detectors. gonk

However, the steel could have been mostly sergical steel or but not 100%.

It could be that the metal piece they put in his spine was so big that it would set alarms off? Piercing jewelry is quite small in the end, and maybe not as dense as Nate's metal piece, so could be why they don't beep. I asked the security guard in London would my bellyring beep when I'd first got it done and he said no, it's so small.

I don't know, that would be quite odd, but would look cool if done well. I don't think I'd do it, but I could see it looking good on you. However, if I were you, I would wait until you are more certain on wanting to do it.

yeah, size of the piece would matter. also, metal detectors are getting more sensitive all the time, and my info could be outdated. i know a friekd who has surgical metal in her spine, and it doesnt cause a problem at airports yet, but she says in a few years it probably will, given the current trend of increasing sensitivity in metal detectors

Kinda necroposting, but I didn't want to make another thread when there already is one.

I just got my nose pierced! I already had my tongue. Darby Pain does my piercings, if any of you know who he is. He's quite popular around here at least.

Did it hurt? :0 The worst pain I remember having was the industrial, since it needed two holes punched in the cartilage with a needle before the bar could be placed.

I've probably posted here somewhere, but I have 6 (4 lobe, 2 cartilage) + industrial on my left ear, 4 on my right (3 lobe, tragus), tongue and bellybutton.

If I didn't have glasses and if I wasn't doing the line of work I am now, I'd probably get a unicorn or a bridge. You know, the between of your eyes either vertically or horizontally. But I don't think assistants should have visible piercings and tattoos.
