Day Three - Dawn

(Another long scene, but it was fun to write. Enjoy! ^^)

Jack and K-9 walked down the left corridor, ever vigilante. They thought they saw someone moving about, but it was only the shadows created by a flickering lamp.
K-9 suddenly stopped, and Jack halted and looked back at the tin dog. “What’s the matter?”

“I cannot move forward.”

“Nonsense, there’s nothing here.” Jack walked past K-9 several times, however, the little machine was unable to do the same. It almost looked like he was rocking back and forth with the way he moved. Jack stooped down and noticed a small device attached to K-9’s front. “What’s this?” The device was beeping at a steady rate, but after listening to it, Jack noticed that it was speeding up. He couldn’t pry it off, but he knew one thing that would stop it.

“Come on, we need to find the Doctor. He said these passages connect, and we’re on the left, so we’ll just turn around and find the next left corridor.” They both turned around and made it to the next passageway. Jack noticed that the little dog was slowing down. “Are you tired?”

“Negative. I cannot become tired.”

Jack thought about that for a moment, and then realized that he still had his scanner watch from before he landed in the Death Zone. Hopefully it still worked. He punched a few buttons on the dial, and then held it to the device on K-9. All it told him was that K-9 had about five minutes before the device activated.

“Come on, we have to speed up.” Jack hesitated one moment before picking up the little dog and increasing his step down the hall.

The next thing Martha knew, she had nearly collapsed on top of the Doctor. He realized it was her, and quickly helped her to her feet as she regained balance.
“Doctor!!” Martha wrapped her arms around the Doctor and hugged him tightly.

The Doctor looked bewildered. “Hang on a moment, you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost...”

“Worse, a Dalek! It was big and black and really creepy and it’s got the Brigadier!”

He returned the hug, with her head on his shoulder, and anger quickly replacing the sadness that he rarely allowed others to see.

“We’ve got to go back for him, Doctor! He’s in trouble!”

“There is no going back, Martha. He’s dead. A Dalek is ordered to do one thing, and that is to kill. And I can’t lose you. Too many people have died already.”

Martha hugged the Doctor tighter, her tears falling on his blue suit, but he hardly noticed.

Jack caught a glimpse of the blue suit, and an obviously distraught Martha, and ran up to meet them. The device on K-9 was ticking very quickly now, and Jack started to explain about the strange thing. He and the Doctor got into a long technical conversation.

Martha realized that there wasn’t much time before the thing on K-9 activated, and she got down and started yanking at it. It wouldn’t budge, so she grabbed the sonic screwdriver out of the Doctor’s large coat pocket and attempted to use it on the black box. After a minute or so of frantic prodding with the sonic screwdriver, she was able to pry it off K-9, and it was quickly tossed down the long corridor.

She got up and handed the screwdriver back to the Doctor, and then they all heard a loud, booming sound. Large amounts of smoke were flowing from the box, and she had to cover her face to keep from coughing.

"It was a bomb." The Doctor's tone echoed the feelings of Martha and Jack.

"A Dalek couldn't have done that..there's someone else here.." Jack mused.

“There’s only one way to go now, and that’s forward. Fortunately I know that there are still several more corridors that will keep us from a dead end.” The Doctor led the group down the shadowy hallway, after making sure that K-9 was alright. Grim determination took over his features as they went forward.

Wow, that was quick, Ceribri. Looks like we caught a break, and the doc blocked the night kill. If I'm reading the story right, it looks like the Mafia went after Martha. I'm actually surprised (and mildly insulted) that they didn't try to take me out. xp

Anyway, here's what we know, based on the storyline.

We know that the confirmed characters have to be in the game, because there's no NPC's in the storyline (except for the dead soldier from day 1). Since no one's contested those roles, for now I think they're the least likely to be Mafia. AttemptedPerfection almost certainly K-9 due to clue #1.

I'm 100% sure we need to lynch Touch My Seizure, and 90% sure about Fourtysecondscarf. They seem to be in league with each other (look back at their posts... they seem like a team), and were the ones who wrongly initiated the lynch against Stresshog (and, yeah, I had my doubts about him too, but I still thought we needed more discussion before jumping on him). In fact, they were the two most vocal against having everyone reveal their identities, were among the last to declare themselves, and always seem to be eager to jump on someone prematurely (first me, then AttemptedPerfection, and finally Stresshog).

edit: actually, after re-reading the story, I'm not sure I can figure out who the Mafia targeted. It reads like K-9 was the target, because he had the bomb stuck on him. Maybe the Mafia's intended victim wasn't written into the storyline after all.

I don't know who I think is mafia yet. I've definitely got suspicions.

This has been bugging me since Hairy said it, and I'm sort of getting an idea. Hairy said that TMS was probably mafia earlier because Cow Demon (the original) was banned about the time of the start, which Hairy guessed delayed the nightkill. However, I think it easily just as likely that it was delayed either by it being the first nightkill and thus the mafia people had to learn the ropes (like we had to here with how to write down our votes and how to get started) or that SamuraiButterfly, who was unaware at the time that the game had actually started, was possibly mafia and slowed it down. Any of those three are possible. All of those three could also be wrong. I don't know.

We all need to get together (in this thread, I mean) and discuss this some more. Don't want us to make another mistake by lynching a townie/hero.

I don't know what to do now. I need tea and maybe a cucumber sandwich. Oh, and, off topic, I finally saw three episodes of The Last Detective today. I like it. 3nodding The decent-guy detective dealt a bad hand goes through life, apparently trying to make the best of it.

rainyeyes29: Actually, as much as I'd like to take credit for it, it was actually Stresshog who suggested the whole Cow Demon/TMS thing. At the time I didn't really think that was good evidence (plus I prefer not to use that sort of metagame thinking), particularly since I remembered that the last two people to check into the game were actually Stresshog and SamuraiButterfly (according to the front page, where Ceribri had placed an X next to the names of those who had yet to check in).

Lullabee: I'm not only 100% positive that TMS is mafia, I also know which one...

And yes, I'm now asserting that I'm the cop. I'd have come forward sooner, but on day 1 I investigated Roobarb (because I was suspicious that she initiated a 'no lynch' so quickly).

So, my suggestion to the town is this: lynch me or lynch TMS. Either I'm telling the truth and TMS is mafia, or I'm lying, in which case I must be mafia. You'll find out the truth by lynching one of us and checking the corpse. Hopefully it won't be MY corpse. gonk

Anyway, if I do get hanged (or night-killed), don't forget what I've said: TMS for sure, and 42scarf most likely. If there's a 3rd mafia player, it'll probably be either Lullabee, Triska, or SamuraiButterfly, as they're the only ones not currently attached to a character that's already appeared in the storyline.

And whoever's the doctor, don't expose yourself if at all possible. The town's screwed if the mafia bump off both the cop and doc.

after we lynched the brigadier, sorry by the way, stress hog, I was certain of t m s needing to be lynched anyway, I'm glad hairy initiated the lynch first so that on the off chance he's not I don't have to be all suspected, that annoys me. Oi, and by the way, thanks doctor and Jack for having a technical conversation while there was a bomb strapped to me, lot of help you were rofl
