I helped Audentes level grind today D8< I shall get my say in first!

I'm a Lord of the Rings fan, so I normally have a very high tolerance for long books: Dragonriders of Pern, Ender's Game, Legend of Drizzt etc. But as of late, i've really gotten into the fast-paced ones. I couldn't get through book 6 of Harry Potter despite my former love for them. It just dragged on for me.
And for me, Twilight was a lot of nothing happening and her ignorance to her popularity just made me angry D8< I think the thing that TRULY bugged me about it was not so much the book, but the HYPE. I hear girls talking about it like it's a miraculous piece of literature and i want to take that book and break their nose with it! Sure, it got people reading again, but they won't read another damn thing in most cases!
Maybe it's just my bookwormish attitude and the fact that I was read the Hobbit at age 3... but I can certainly say that there are plenty of other books out there that have not been given the chance.
I'll stop now before I explode. I'm sure that at work i'll see another damn twilight tshirt and i'll drop shoeboxes on their heads!

i got bored of the books partway through Order of the Pheonix. started it, but i don't think i got past the first 5 or so chapters. my brother and mom read through it i think, but i stopped caring. my grandmother's read them all though.

i used to read a lot more in depth books when i was younger, but i've regressed thanks to anime XP i've been trying to get into other books recently though, like Terry Pratchett biggrin he's funny as hell!

i'm sick of those accursed Twilight shirts, and what's most annoying is that i have to pass a display of them (along with other memorabilia) everytime i want to go to the manga section in Chapters. not to mention i keep seeing them in stores in the local mall. they seem to inspire some latent pyromania urges everytime i see them. i think we need to start a phenomenon of t-shirts with this:

Yeah, vamps shouldn't sparkle. they should burn from the rays of the sun. :3
I'm okay with them having extra super-powers, though.

How about Team Underworld? D:

I agree with Seedy on this, the only reason I dislike the Twilight series is the hype. Twilight was actually on my read list RIGHT when it came out, but after a year or so, I just couldn't look at it.

And I don't think reading Manga is a regression, have you read works from Mizu Sahara / Sumomo Yumeka(Same person, two pen-names)? Her stories are just beautiful, and psychologically draining, not to mention her art (Gorgeous). If anything, I read manga because of the engaging story lines and art. Heck, at the age of 14 I was reading Malcolm Gladwell, and then about a year later I was reading Michel Foucault. I find Angels and Demon to be BORING as hell, and before you say anything, YES, I get the story and the symbolism and all that 'cause when I was in middle school I was BURIED in books about myths, legends, faith, social science...etc etc. So in my opinion, manga isn't really a regression, it's just another form of art that I can appreciate biggrin [/endrant omg I'm such an otaku, shoot me now >___>"]

Anyways, what happened to all the spam? D; Did Auden eat it again? >3>

owo; I didn't notice that..., XD Seedy... Seddy... nyan

I do like my intelligent literature on the occasion, and I also love my actionfests so long as they have some decent plot to them :3

Battle Royale = the only book i've read twice

I still must go out and buy one particular book... it's witty and funny and based off a book i was forced to read a long time ago.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

ALL OF YOU! GO READ A CHRISTOPHER MOORE BOOK!!!!111ELEVEN

Lamb is my all-time favourite by him, but he also has a very HILARIOUS vampire romance called 'Bloodsucking Fiends' along with it's miraculous sequel: 'You Suck'.

And don't say that Manga is not intelligent! Death Note takes the cake for thinking manga <3 Kind of like Watchmen *squees a bit and twitches*

Anyone going to see that 'Blood the last vampire' live action movie?

Oh... right...
*fires spam artillery*

i'm not saying manga isn't intelligent; i just don't read as many novels or books full of text anymore thanks to it. hence, the regression.

i need to read Battle Royale...i saw the movie, and someone mentioned that the original book was banned in Canada for a long while XD

depends on your definition of "intelligent literature". if you mean the great classics that the critics always praise, those often bore the hell outta me -.- read Hemingway, The Great Gatsby, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and The Metamorphosis in my English Lit class last semester and none of them caught my interest. reading them all seemed like a tedious task. then again, i hate reading books to make reports about them or overanalyze everything, so that also plays a big part. i like to read books for fun.

Death Note bored me after *spoiler*L died*/spoiler* and i haven't finished it since i got to that point. plus, it didn't really make me think, it just made me marvel at the clash of minds happening. heck, FMA makes me think more than Death Note ever did.

CHRISTOPHER MOORE IS ******** HILARIOUS! XD I think the first book I read by him was A Dirty Job, have you ever read it Seedy?! I DIED laughing xD And omg! I've wanted to buy Pride and Prejudice and Zombie's for EVER XD It just sounds so brilliant >3

Oh, yea, Might go watch that movie, donno yet, heard it wasn't so good D;

WAHHH!! *Is being shot at*

I donno, I find manga to be intelligent 'cause I'm somewhat of a psychology / sociology nerd, so whatever I read, I analyze, even if it's manga, human / character interactions interest me as a whole biggrin

Also, if you guys want a good classic to read, read The Wars by Timothy Findley, we had to read that in English last year but no one complained 'cause the whole book was just amazing as hell, and there was just so much symbolism and themes and...oh it was just beautiful *wipes tear* Although I was only three outta my class of 32 who liked it xD Like, I had NEVER read a novel before that mentions the four horsemen of the apocalypse, but the author slips them in so subtly it's amazing <3

then you need to read "Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. it's about the apocalypse mrgreen with a twist; they lost the Anti-Christ. definately one of the best books i've ever read, to the point i was sad i finished it D: actually, i think i might go out and buy it with a couple other Pratchett books...

what's with Hollywood and live-action versions of popular animated series (particularly anime) nowadays? first it was the superheroes kick, now it's this...and NA live-action anime movies make me think of the rumours about Zac Efron playing Light in the Death Note movie. and then the one that blindsided me; Zac Efron playing Sousuke Sagara from Full Metal Panic! crying that's just not right!
