"Roger, Katie. Closed? I hope that's only for those trying to leave, otherwise I'll have to sneak in," he said, walking into the bar and looking around from inside his helmet, "and of course I haven't climbed in awhile, so- ah, I think that's him."

Finding this Stephen, a long, grey haired man, he took off his helmet and retrieved the comm device from its slot, then held it out for him.

"Just press the left button and talk into it. It's Katie, she needs to speak with you."

Stephen had been fairly quiet up till this point, looking at the map and contemplating the danger that they faced ahead of them, but shifted his attention when a man handed him a communication device. He smiled, grabbing the object and pressing the button.

"Katie, you there? This is Stephen. Do you copy? Over."

He rubbed a hand through his hair, taking a moment to lower his guard for a bit to check on a friend. Danger was afoot, and Katie was in closer proximity to it, but he still felt like he had to check up on her.

"I'm pretty sure it's just for those trying to leave.."

Katie didn't want anyone to worry about them because for now she thought they would be fine. Though, she would keep her guard up, which she always usually did. It was a given.

Stephen's voice came over the speaker. It sounded different, but she knew that it was him.

"Stephen, I'm here. I saw you at the Firebrand just before I left. I just wanted to make sure things were well, and to tell you that if you needed anything that Quinn gave me a communicator, so you could contact me through there. Karin is in good hands?"

She knew he hadn't brought her, so that was good. The little girl didn't need to be right in the middle of all of this.

Malice the Immortal
For a few awkward moments, the dark swordsman would continue to stare, unblinkingly mind you, at the pilot John.

Before his gaze wandered to Lucind.

No expression. No interest. No fear. Just emptiness. As one who hated art might regard a rather bland piece in a gallary he was dragged to against his will.

Then, his gaze would travel back to the pilot.

"wwWhheerre iissss thiisss... trraannsspoorrrt gooiiinngg? wwWiiillll iitt goo ttoo thhee sssaamme deessttiinnaattiioonn aasss thoosse twwooo drraaagoonnss aaannnd theeiirr ccrreewww iIi sssaawww eeaarrrlliieerrrr?"

The voice itself seemed to be carried along the wind; not vocalized like normal voices, it seemed to resonate everywhere equally.

After the swordsman finished his question, he would turn to gaze in a Southwesterly direction.

"What the hell?" John would vocalize from inside the copter, taking off his headset to check his ears, not sure if what he heard was electronic disturbance at all. A flashing light indicated a message, but he hesitated, going for his hostlered beretta instead, ever so cautiously. "Yeah, I'm armed. Who is this loser? How did he do that thing with his voice?" He would scan the area the swordsman had turned, spotting Lucind, looking back and forth between the two.

So it was really the guy she had seen earlier at the stadium, very much looking like he did right now, and later at the forest...with much less skin and flesh attached to his bones.

Her face equally blank she stated calmly: "What does it matter to you?" (She needed to use her whispering technique to have her words being transported to the dark guy.)

"Ignore his voice, John. But I have to warn you that, if he decides to stop us, it's going to happen by means of magic."

Lucind didn't like this at all. The stranger belonged to Viktor and Ra'kar. Sunstrike had assumed that they, and therefore also the shades, knew about their every move...that it didn't really matter, though, that the people that had united in the Firebrand meant less than a nasty fly landing on your breakfast.

"What do you want?" Another factual question without any hint of hostility.

Why was he here?

Max? We've got a problem here, one of Victor's men came. We're not yet under attack, maybe he's just a messenger...it still smells of trouble.

The Siren knew that, with her being out in the daylight, Maximos likely would receive a message containing emotions rather than coded words.
But it hopefully was enough to get her message across.

Poor Maximos.

There was Rum, Rae, and Sun.

All in the time it took him to finish a bite of his apple.

He didnt even have time to speak, no time to move, no time to react before everyone was off in different directions. Lu was off with her Rum, Sun was leaving for a room it seemed. Rae....was she okay? He could tell. He'd seen Hono like that, but never Rae. She looked broken, scared to the core. Her tough exterior melted away like so much ice in the heat of the Sun.

He wanted to help her. She was a friend, a close friend. He may even own her his life. And after all she helped him. But no sooner than he stepped forward did a voice resound in his head.

Daylight did not effect the necklace, that was why Lucind's shadow was missing a spot where the necklace lie. It simply had worse reception, but she was so close that the voice came clearly. Urgently. And rather loudly through his skull.

He stopped in place clutching his head for a moment.

"Max? We've got a problem here, one of Victor's men came. We're not yet under attack, maybe he's just a messenger...it still smells of trouble."

He stood, shaking his head a bit and then responded, his lips moving but no sound escaped them. Lucind would hear though, as he made his way to Raven.

There is no use or point in attacking us right now. Whoever he is, is over powered and out numbered. Lets pray he's that stupid. For now find out what he wants, and see if we cant dismiss him amiably.

Minions were nothing to be concerned about. You do not march a single pawn against a whole army. If it became a threat, he'd be there. And so, with concern, honestly deep concern Maximos reached a hand out to Rae's and said.

Are you alright?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 08, 2008 3:49 am

A whisper on the wind, a thought halted before it could fully form...down that path was a road to madness and pain.

Rae watched Sun shut down, and then walk away, knowing that he knew as well as she did that this was not just a case of a bad head wound...although they both wanted to blame themselves it seemed.

Rae turned to look up at Max, a polite but very fake smile in place as an unnoticed tear rolled down her cheek. "Ill be alright Maxi... I just have to learn to keep my shields up tighter...too many wild emotions in a place like this..."

Unnoticed?

No. Not quite. Not much truly went unnoticed by Maximos.

It was quite a caught tear. Caught in all regards, in that Maximos saw it. And in that his hand quickly, though gently rose up, index finger leading to swipe it up as it tried to slip away into obscurity.

The same hand fell down down onto her shoulder and Maximos positioned himself, so that mismatched eyes were staring into hers. He knew that kind of smile. Even without magic eyes to tell him that she was lying, he knew it completely. And he had let entirely too many people this night walk away wearing the same cheap mask.

Call this a stand. A line in the sand. Though a kind and gentle line. He was knew to this kind of battle, no sword here to swing. No magic to win the day. But he was willing to try his hand. Maybe he'd start here and work his way back across the path to the others. His eyes said "I understand." And in a real way. Not in that he understood what she said, but in that he understood what she meant. And it was with that sentiment that he spoke.

I'll listen, if you can trust me with it.

And then a very real, warm smile.

And if you cant, I'll listen when you can.

His hand squeezed, not roughly of course. Reassuringly.

Your not alone.

And thats all he'd say. The next sound to escape his mouth was the sound of an apple being bitten. He'd wait for a reaction of course, of some sort, of any sort. A smile already waiting for whatever it may be.

The smile faded away as sun touched eyes met mismatched and she nodded slightly, blinking away the rest of the tears that threatened to spill out of her eyes. "later...."

It was all she could manage at the moment, having to gather her own thoughts before she could try to go through them with Maximos.

HonoRaven
Well you see, something funny happened... Rae asked me to help her heal her captain after the HoH elimination round... he lost an eye, and alone neither of us have the ability to regenerate such a difficult body part. Eyes are such a bother..." That comment was more for Rae than anything else, knowing how bad her double still felt about not being able to really help Kas...

She listened and nodded in agreement about eyes being particularly tricky.

"Eyes are not only intricate in their physical nature alone. But I'm sure you've heard the term 'Eyes are a window to the soul' yes?

It is an organ that is connected to both the physical and the spiritual self. One's mental state can manifest and directly effect the physical. The way you think of the world, is how you will see it. Perception becomes sight.

Sometimes, the problem lies not in the realm of the physical, but within the realm of the mental. Such cases are more easily overlooked but even when they're found, they are the most difficult to treat, but not impossible."

It was a hint.

A hint at what she suspected was wrong with the Scion, whom she'd been monitoring for some time. But she would rendezvous with that party later, and she would inspect the man for herself.

It would give the Raven's something to think about, and hopefully help ease any strife. It was also something to look out for in the future in the course of their duties as healers., even if her hypothesis was wrong in this instance, it might have bearing on another individual down the road.

HonoRaven
"At any rate we figured on combining our efforts, doubling our strength to get the job done, and what we got was quite unexpected..."

Now Hono did lean forwards against the table, her voice dropping to the point that even the elf might have trouble hearing her. "The power didn't really combine like we thought it would, and it defiantly didn't double... there was like an echo effect, our powers bouncing off each other gaining a metaphysical kind of momentum, even feeding off each other so that it was much more than just doubled...If I was to think in mathematical terms I would say that the power was squared, increasing by a factor of four times instead of just two..."

Hono leaned back with a little shrug as her voice went back to its normal pitch. "Neither of us know the how or the why, but when it was done there was a new connection between us, what I know she knows, what she remembers I can recollect as well...right now I would have to say that we are two different people only because we choose to be, so our powers overlap when we are close unless we concentrate on keeping them apart. It is a very difficult thing to see things differently when we know that we really are the same person, it is strange to know that the exact same thought running through my mind is running through hers at the same time!" sweatdrop creepy, creepy creepy was more accurate than strange, but Hono was trying to be polite... xp

She leaned forward as Hono'o did, listening intently. Pursing her lips together, she sat quietly for a moment, thinking on the phenomenon.

"How are you two related to one another? You are the same yet not... I cannot tell more than that without playing metaphysical detective. What is the story of your sameness? Perhaps the answer lies in your origins."

HonoRaven
"What I use I have to replace... that is the simplest of natural laws governing hunger, even this sort of hunger." Rave shrugged again, but there was a tightness to her shoulders that had not been there before...

Reiyvian smiled reassuringly, and scribbled something down as they discussed the nature of her feeding.

"As long as you don't feel like you have to feed even when you're not expending energy. That would be a slightly more complex matter. But replenishing is somewhat simpler."

She didn't speak out as the Salamander left, or as others departed. She kept her focus and remained where she was. Dealing with what was within her ability to change at this very moment.

But that wasn't to say that she was not observing, nor planning ahead.

"My origin just went upstairs for a nap....hers is more...complicated." sweatdrop Orange eyes with tiny sunburst at their centers stared right through the other woman as she thought about eyes, and how they could sometimes be more than just windows.

"Fate decided to take a more personal hand in the outcome of Eden, despite the fact that, as I understand it, that sort of thing is not allowed at all. Rae is me, I am Rae...with a few slight differences in our pasts." Hono blinked, breaking her gaze and smiling again as if this was all just another little bump in the road that was her life.

"Just because I feel hunger does not mean that I have to feed just then, I can wait for my meal times like a sensible adult!" xp

Stephen smiled as he heard Katie's voice on the radio. "Good to hear. All that amazon strength should come in handy." He glanced towards the man whom she was referring. "I take it you're Quinn then. Nice t' meetcha. I'm Stephen Lasanti. Friend's call me Sutiiven. Take your pick. Looking forward to working with you." he said extending a hand and a smile.

Always one for an introduction.

After the pleasantries, he pressed the button on the comm and spoke again. "Yeah, Karin's fine. She's in good hands, I made sure of it."

Meanwhile...

"Silly dragon! Put Mister Rice down!"

Kids will be kids.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 08, 2008 1:30 pm

"Hopefully."

Katie was glad to hear that Karin was in good hands. She nodded on her end, though he couldn't see it.

"I'm going to get back to looking for a place to stay for the evening. Maybe we'll see you guys later when we meet up."

She was always trying to be optimistic, even in pessimistic situations. This was one of those situations. She knew they could be easily faced with anything, but she was going to be ready.

"You and Quinn take care. Tell him I'll keep in touch as we go."

And the call would end.

Nodding his head to Stephen, Quinn shook the mans hand. "If you want, I'm going to Reen in a few minutes by myself. I have room for you should you want to join."

Hearing Katie end the conversation, he awaited his comm back and stood straight. He was eager to get there; in the old days, he was a frontlines, covert agent. He dove in, he got the job done so others didn't have to. While this wasn't a human war back home, he was still relevant.

He had to be. What else would he have left?

Realizing he was showing his consternation, Quinn perked up.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 08, 2008 2:02 pm

Stephen returned the communication device to Quinn. He nodded, a serious look on his face. One could possibly read the mixed feelings of concern and determination on him, unsure of what lie ahead but knowing that he couldn't back down. He wanted to help, and now he was in for the long haul. And he was damned proud to do whatever he could.

"All right, I'll head out with you. I've got some weapons on me, but if you have anything else, it'd be appreciated too. Gotta be ready for all situations, right?" he said, now smiling and hiding his true concern. He was good at that, pretending to be okay on the outside. He didn't want others to see him down and lose hope.

He casually saluted with a cheeky grin on his face.

"Orders, Captain?"
