It's a good thing the Aiel view life as a prelude to something else; if they said "May you sleep and wake" to someone from the continent, and they misinterpreted, it could be...well..misinterpreted as 'In a strange way, I hope you die...but not really.' Maybe that's another reason they're called savages...or not...ignore my rambling.

Possiblitys of darkfriends ppls:

We can discount any characters who we have seen through the eyes of for significant ammounts of time (Rand, Mat, Perrin, Faile, Elayne, Nynaeve, Egwene, Moiraine, Min, Morgase and Egeanin - there are probably more but I'll never get all of them). Then there are other characters whose actions and connections make it very unlikely that they are darkfriends (Lan, Elaida, Galad, Gawyn, Tuon, Logain and Birgitte to name but a few). Some we already know are darkfriends (Taim, Alviarhin, Elza, Suroth etc...). There are also a few that RJ has discounted himself (such as Masema). That leaves a few notable subjects to discuss...

Verin - The Prime Candidate. Her motives have always been her own, she has lied (in TGH), contemplated poisoning (Cadsuane) and can be reasonably suspected of using Compulsion on the Aes Sedai captured by the Aiel to make them turn to Rand. We also know that she has been planning for the arival of the Dragon Reborn for over seventy years when he rebirth has may not have been known for that length time (Gitara Moroso's prophecy that the Dragon will be reborn within the lifetimes of sisters now living - exact date unknown). There is also the possiblity that she is of the so-called Purple Ajah, a group of sisters who forgo the oath rod for special purposes (such as fighting the black ajah). She also left half way through KoD for no given reason.

Cadsuane - she has been around for a long time and is very powerful and we know (from New Spring) that she has associated with Black sisters (though whether she knew their true loyalties is unknown). Verin was also considering poisoning her at one point until (for no clear reason) she suddenly changed her mind in the middle of the scene. This would seem to suggest that whatever Verin's alegance (black or purple), Cadsuane is the same.

Sorilea - falls into the same group as Cadsuane and Verin. We can assume this from her motives towards Rand, both her and Cadsuane want to see Rand re-discover his humanity - though this seems a benign goal, you never can tell with RJ.

Other Aiel Wise Ones - Unknown, we have no evidence suggesting any of them are, but they could just be there to supprise us.

Aviendha - I partially suspect her simply because we rarely see through her eyes. However, there is evidence against that; stemming from the fact that we know she survives for Rand's 'funeral' (from Nicola's fortelling) and we can suspect that any darkness within would have been sensed by Elayne when they became sisters.

Alana - acted very suspiciously in the Two Rivers during SR (though this could be put down to her losing a warder). We just don't know about her at the moment.

Sheriam - she seems to have been controlled somewhat by Balthamel/Aran'gar/Halima and Delana in the rebel Aes Sedai camp, whether she will now come good and help uncover the true identity of the forsaken or whether Arthama had the foresight to Compulsion her before leaving remains to be seen.

Leanne - we don't know much about her at all, but we do know that the black Ajah have gone to great lengths to control both the council and the Amyrlin in the past.

Berelain - not much in the way of evidence for, but no evidence against either. It seems to be that she will fall for Galad, but Melindrha fell for Mat and still followed Shai'tan. Could be one of the suprise ones - would also be pretty cool to see her versus Faile.

Dobraine - the fact that he was almost killed in a darkfriend attack would seem to suggest he is not dark himself. But darkfriends aren't always known for being nice to each other.

Thom - he's been in it from the beginning and yet we have seen through his eyes for less than a chapter. We know that he's helped Rand and co on numerous occations against the dark (but so has Lanfear and Asmodean and Semhirage and Osan'gar). Plus, there's always the question of how he managed to survive that Fade in Whitebridge.

Gaul, Bain and Chiad - If Bain was then this would certainly help Gaul to end up with Chiad, but again we are left to guess how much first-sisters really know about each other.

Gareth Bryne - it's unlikely Rahvin would have had him removed if he was a darkfriend, but there's also the question of why he didn't die in some mysterious accident where Rahvin just happened to be holding a big bar of balefire.

Dyelin - Could be. Her motives aren't always clear.

Talmanes - Mat's second in command. Again, there's nothing to prove he isn't (I think).

Anyone from Emonds Field - Highly unlikely because no one bothered with Emonds field until Rand came along.

Loial - People will hate this one, and I don't beleive it myself. But it's not impossible that our kind, friendly Ogier is, in fact, the worlds greatest Darkfriend and was second in the running for Nae'blis after Moridin. No...? Anyone...?

Oh dear...seems a tad grim for Silverstein....
