Devon cringed as the door shut behind him. He didn't go downstairs just yet. He sat and leaned against the door. He listened to the music and her tear almost hidden behind it. All this because of one thoughtless statement.
He rubbed his face and stood. Well he would see what he could do about it. He went downstairs, frustrated with himself but determined to do something about it.
Snatching up his keys he left, the car engine roaring as he pulled off.

Lark had almost cried herself out when she heard the roar of Devon's engine pulling out of the drive way. So he was leaving her wasn't he. The thought only made her cry harder as her inspiration was gone and she didn't want to work on Devon's present anymore. What was the point, locking up the attic she moved silently to her room and locked herself in laying across the bed miserable

Devon returned later with the gift he had special ordered. He was hoping to surprise Lark with this on Christmas, but she was go upset by the ill thought comment that he hoped maybe it would help her calm down and forgive him.
He was hoping to make it more... not awful for her when receiving it, but he couldn't help that now.

By the time that Devon had returned Lark was asleep exhaustion finally caught up to her she had cocooned herself in blanket and have having a fitful sleep. Lark had the door of her room looked tight so Devon couldn't sneak in while she was sleeping. With sleep her walls came down and through the connection she was radiating hurt and anger toward him

Devon tested the door. It was locked. He was tempted to find the key to it he knew was around the house somewhere. Or just break it down. It would be easy, but that wouldn't end well.
He side and pocketed the little box, settling outside the door. It was going to be a long night.

Later that night a little after midnight Lark got up and unlocked the door. She had a nightmare and she wasn't about to go running to Devon just thinking about what happened earlier made her angry opening the door to sneak downstairs for some water she tripped over something that was breathing!?

Devon snorted and startled awake as something kicked him. Abruptly alert he looked up at a stunned Lark. "Are you okay?" he asked concerned. "A nightmare?"

Lark glared at him and didn't answer him as she picked her sore body off the floor and dusted herself off before heading toward the stairs

Devon let her go, standing and staring after her. For a moment he just stood there before going into the room now that it was open. He sat carefully on the bed, turning on a lamp and pulling out the box. He waited.

Lark came up and saw that Devon was gone from in front of her door. She had to ponder for a moment why he was there and not in his old room or the couch. Choosing to ignore it Lark stepped into her room and froze seeing Devon on her bed. "What do you want? Haven't you said enough for one night?" She said to him angrily

Devon shook his head. "What I said was thoughtless. I never meant it to hurt you. I'm sorry." he apologized again. He put down the small box and pushed it toward her. "My Christmas gift for you. I thought you might like it now."

Saying nothing to him as of yet she took the box from the nightstand turning her back to him as she unwrapped it. Noticing that the wrapping unlike last time was very neat and done with care. Opening it she gasped and put a hand to her mouth as tears filled them.

Inside was a gold locket, a bird caught mid-flight carved delicately into the front. Upon opening it, a picture Bo had taken of the two on the right. It was taken some time before the faeries had come. On the left was an inscription:

To my Lark. You forever have my heart.

Devon looked a like self-conscious as he looked at it in the box. "I'm no good at making things. I burn food and only have no artistic ability.
However, I thought I could at least put my heart into something you could keep with you always."

Lark was touched "Oh Devon, it's beautiful. I'm sorry." She told him throwing her arms around him crying on his shoulder feeling bad for the way she treated him and doubted him. The locket was carefully lain on the nightstand.

Devon hugged her and sat back down. "I'm sorry. I'll think before I speak next time." he said, trying to sooth her. He moved so they were comfortably lain out on the bed. He kissed her forehead. "Sleep. We have a busy day tomorrow."
