Eccentric Iconoclast xD I like the shirt. Well, whaddya know? o.O I'm writing an essay about my experiences with orthodox Jewish culture. xD Oh Maaaaaaaaya... >.> xd Just out of curiosity, what do you guys (as in all of the guild members here) think of Judaism? Be completely honest, I won't get offended because there are a few aspects of it I don't like myself >_> Namely MEN WITH BEARDS OMGOMGOMG let's not even go there... talk2hand

I personally like it, for the most part. The few aspects of it that I don't like are things that I have issues with in ALL religions; the belief in the superiority of one belief system and that all other people who believe other things are inferiour, etcetera. I suppose it's fundamentalism that I hate; I can't say that I dislike any particular religion in general. Just the extremes. <---Unitarian
I suppose I've had plenty of good experiences with Jews. xD
We used to live in a -very- Jewish neighborhood (Highland Park in Saint Paul, if you're wondering) and our next-door neighbours were ultraorthodox Jew (Lubavitch). Men in beards is right. xD And black raincoats and tophats. When we first moved in, they built what looked to us like a large ice-fishing house in their backyard, much to our confusion. Later, we found out that it was a "booth" for Sukkoth. They often made agreements with us that whenever the High Holy days fell next to the Sabbath (three work-free days in a row) we would go over and push the buttons on their dishwashers for them (they had two, one for meat and one for dairy). One Friday night, Dad had to go over and open their fridge for them (they didn't ask a favour, they offered him a cookie. No favours on the Sabbath!) because they had forgotten their dinner in it and whenever they opened the fridge a light would turn on. xDDD
As I've said, they were really, really orthodox. Most of the Jewish people I've met haven't been nearly so obsessively religious. xD
Sorry if I'm rambling. >.>

Eccentric Iconoclast No favours on the Sabbath!) because they had forgotten their dinner in it and whenever they opened the fridge a light would turn on. xDDD Why didn't they just unplug the fridge before they opened it so the light wouldn't come on? Or was pulling the plug out also considered work? I have nothing against Judaism. I mean, like all religions, as EI said, I don't like the self-centred approach to their religion as the central and the only true path of religion. They have a set of cultural rules which I of course don't agree with either, but at least they don't have an organisational body that still dictates what they should and should not be able to do, which is what really shits me about Christianity. Errrr, yeah. Large ramples make me lose my position. All good.

I don't think I've ever knowingly encountered somebody Jewish face-to-face (I must have met some by now, even if I didn't know that they were Jewish), but I've got nothing but respect for them.
I don't think I could handle being jewish, though. I like bacon too much. sweatdrop

Not sure if pulling a plug out is also considered work, but anyway, I think if you pulled the plug for your fridge out, your food would go bad sweatdrop EDIT: pulling a plug out is work because it involves turning a light off, which is also forbidden sweatdrop

Good God. I can't stop listening to a Dutch folksong called Het Slurvenlied. eek It's not much different than the horrid excuse for folkmusic that local Mexicans play 24/7, but in Dutch, and for some reason I actually prefer this.

Slippy_Pollett And he expects us to make a rock remix of it with our band. stare Hey! I swear it'll earn us some brownie points for the Netherlands! ...or at least for the older generation who still listen to those songs. Trust me.
