I do what I can to put scum behind bars. Frankly, prosecution is a hell of a lot more sexy than defense. I'd rather be putting dangerous criminals behind bars than defending them. But.... no. I don't... say.. specialize in Homicides

Well, if you're working with Jack Irwin, he must disagree. His journals are incredible. That man hand-picks his courtroom lawyers. I don't know anyone in my program who wouldn't sell their soul to have ten minutes of the man's time.

Oh, Jack ALWAYS disagrees. The man is a better prosecutor than I am, but has always had a soft spot for defense. I tell you... I hope and PRAY that the man doesn't go into a private firm when he retires his position. I do NOT want to go up against him in court. Good LORD, that would suck.

And I can tell you now, if you want a few minutes of his time, the best thing you can do is bring him a box of Wagenaer chocolates. They're Belgian. I swear the man would sell his SOUL for a box of 'em.

Turkey sandwiches and a can of mixed nuts. *Luke opens one of the sandwiches. He smells it.* They smell good.
*He takes a bite.* Alright. They pass inspection.
*Luke grabs a can of coke. He thinks about using his power to pop the tab. He looks at Alex, and remembers Melliandra telling him that there's bad blood between him and Tavin (and how couldn't there be?). Luke holds off and just opens the can normally.*
So what's this case about? Who else is involved?

Well, right now its ADA Leslie Penn's case. But....
*Alex slides a manilla folder towards Luke*
... I certainly hope that you aren't squimish. The police responded to a call for help. When they arrived they found ten bodies. Badly beaten and partially dismembered.

*Luke immediately feels his stomach lurch. He closes his throat, frowning deeply as he stared at the pictures.*
Awwww....Goddamn...
*He's seen some graphic pictures before in movies and television, even in his criminal justice class. But these are real, and these otracities have just taken place recently.*
*Luke can feel the blood draining from his face, but he holds it together. No way is he about to let Alex think he's squeamish, when there might be a job offer in his future. Luke finds an intelligent question to ask, but it takes effort.*
How many suspects did they arrest? *Then.* Is it gang-related?

No. No gang activity. And no suspect, either. You'll notice that in all the pictures there are certain similarities. For example, all have multiple stab wounds and they all have had all the fingers on their right hand cut off. The ADA is leaning towards the possibility of a serial killer.

*Luke probably should have been thinking about any number of traumatic things, but instead his mind goes to work. He's detached from what's personal. He starts to think about this - hopefully - in a way that would make his professors proud.*
*Luke takes a minute and thinks. TEN people died - all before someone could call?* No, that doesn't make any sense. That would mean one person did this - one very insane and incredibly ******** fast person - which couldn't happen. Even if more than one person did it, they'd have to have some sort of help. Even if it's just from a doorman or someone who used to live there.
*shakes his head, as he looks - only - at the names at the bottom of the pictures* And if it's a serial killer .... It's not like he targetted just male or just female or anything specific. Everyone just happened to live in the same apartment building.
*He's on a roll and he's starting to get into it.* And you know... even if they didn't leave anything behind - which is really really unlikely - there's gotta be someone who saw something. No one can do this and just walk away. That's... that's impossible.

*Alex nods* Good eye. That's why I'm trying to get the case. This is definately NOT a Serial Killer, and definately the work of several people. But here's a question. The most important one. Why? Why would several people attack and kill random people in different apartments?
