Faster if I really wanted. I could read each page in about 15-20 seconds if I speed read. But that's not enjoyable at all.

I guess so. I don't speed read. I can just read a good book really fast.

I have to read fast... I prefer subtitles to dubbing... that and for a large portion of my life I took to reading everything I could get my hands on. I'm much more fussy now, i can't read a book if it's badly written, no matter how interesting the story. Similarly, i can read a boring story if it's well written. Most interesting of all is the news tho. I love the news, but not when it's about stupid meaningless things like celebrities or sport.

I'm sorta the same way, though if it's not too badly written I can get through it. I don't reall care if it's dubbed or subbed. I can read fast for subbed and dubbed i just like to understand what people are saying.

It's cause they use characters for words, not individual sounds.

I know. Japanese is actually surprisingly easy to speak, my accents even OK, it's just so hard to read and write. I can barely tell the differenc ebetween Katakana, let alone Kanji or Hiragana.

I think, though, that I'm gonna devote all my linguistic efforts to Mandarin. Now that mainland china is free to trade as they wish, and is teeming up with russia, as far as economies are concerned, I can see them being a superpower in less than fifteen years. I may well end up working for a chinese company.

it would, but I'mm looking past the coolness into the practical. Almost a third of the worlds population lives in china and most of them speak Mandarin. They are free to trade and employ foreigners now, and have huge industrial potential. I'm going to be a chemical engineer which means big industry is big money.
