Yoroi decided that if there was anything he could do, it was make himself stronger. Perhaps this will get me ahead of the class. If I want to be a shinobi I have to train...I must... He looked around and didn't see any equipment that he could use,at least not without someone else there. He figured he would begin the easiest way possible, by doing push-ups. He looked down at the ground and saw the dirt on it. Someone hasn't been doing their job. This place is a mess. He shrugged it off and figured he'd have to wash his clothes anyway.
He got down onto his knees and placed his hands on the ground. He got into the push-up position and checked his back for proper posture. If there was going to be training going on he wasn't going to do it the easy way. He lowered himself down to the ground, his nose just touching. He slowly brought himself back up, "One..."

The small amount of pain went up into his arm. He could already feel the exercise working on his muscles. He went down once again, his nose just touching the ground. He tried lifting himself back up, but the muscles in his arms and his abs couldn't get him off the ground, and what was worse was that the dusty dirt got into his nose. He almost had it when his nose couldn't hold it any longer. "ACHOO!" He face planted the floor with a thud. He made a fist and pounded it on the ground, "Argh! Doesn't count...can't fall on the ground..." He readied himself to begin again.

Andou walked into the school. It was empty as usual, which disappointed Andou, but then again he figured that no family would be raring to send their children to become shinobi after that attack that had practically razed the village to the ground. If it hadn't been for those Senju from Konoha - he owed them a huge debt, by the way - Kirigakure would still have no working infrastructure. Actually, there were still huge problems considering staffing shortages but that was better than staffing shortages AND no buildings. He took what he got.
Anyway, Andou entered the main office and shrugged his bag off, placing it on the table. No need for lockers or any fancy stuff. I mean, they were all shinobi. What was one paltry lock against a truly determined ninja? Of course, the seemingly innocent bag was loaded with booby traps, but any ninja should have expected that too. With that done, Andou set off to go student-hunting. This ninja shortage was serious, and maybe he'd have a talk with a couple of his former students that had quit. Damn. Knowing that he'd just alienated two of the stronger of the next generation the previous day really sucked.
Before he could leave, though, he heard the unmistakable sound of a sneeze, coming from the gymnasium. Someone was here already? Andou immediately went to check, and saw a boy in a kimono doing push-ups. It was definitely a Fubuki from his appearance. So this was to be a new student? Andou hoped that this one proved to be more hardworking than his previous two Fubuki students...
He strode forward and tapped his foot on the floor in front of Yoroi to get his attention. "Hello," he said in a flat tone. "I trust you have something to give me? Papers of entry, perhaps? You can continue that later. Right now, I wish to just gauge your abilities. Tell me about yourself." Truth be told, Andou rather appreciated his work ethic, but then again he was never one to praise people. This was a person who had poisoned his own students as a form of 'training' after all.
[You can continue that training later XD]

Yoroi looked up to see a man standing above him. Yoroi immediately stood up and wiped off his kimono. He pushed the hair from his eyes and reached under his kimono to reveal a small folded stack of papers. He unfolded them and handed them over to Andou. "As you can see in the entry forms...both my parents are now deceased and am in the care of the clan. I survived through the bravery of my mother and now hope to become stronger to defend my family." He spoke in a low tone just enough to be heard. His voice didn't quiver or show any emotion...just emptiness.
"My name is Yoroi Fubuki, sensei," he continued on, "I'm of the age of twelve, and looking to start my training." He bowed his head out of respect for his elders. He wasn't fully prepared for class, not knowing if there really was much of a class anymore.

"Fubuki, huh?" Andou said, with what appeared to be a disapproving expression on his face. But then again Yoroi would soon learn that it was his default expression. "I've instructed a couple of your relatives. I hope you don't turn out as disappointingly." He fixed Yoroi with an intense stare as he accepted the papers, flipping through them until he was satisfied. "I hope you're set on being a shinobi, because the council has declared that even students are counted as shinobi, and are therefore eligible for taking missions," he informed the boy blandly. The reason was obvious: Kirigakure was having a shinobi shortage after the invasions, and Andou did not elaborate. "You'll be privy to sensitive information that you must never reveal, upon pain of death.
"That said," Andou continued, stuffing the papers in a pocket, "we will begin training now. I expect a lot of extra training at home, for stuff you can easily do then such as those push-ups you were doing just now. However when you are under my instruction you will be learning as efficiently as possible. We need to secure you on the basics so that we can send you onto the frontlines. Come with me to the classroom; it's a much more conducive environment for what we're going to do."
Once in the classroom, Andou pulled out a few books from the bookshelf, all to do with chakra. "As I said earlier," he explained, "I expect you to do physical conditioning at home. We will be focusing on chakra and its application for the next few lessons. I'd like you to tell me all you know about chakra, so I can see where to start."

Exodus looked at his teacher. I remember my father telling me all about chakra... "It's produce when physical and spiritual energies combine and in order to use it you must perform the basic hand seals. Everyone has chakra flowing through their body, but not everyone can control it. There are also many different kinds of chakra that different shinobi can use." He was now enrolled in the academy. There was no backing out now and he was a shinobi now. He was beginning to live his dream, one little step at a time.
"If I may ask...what happened to everyone? The rest of the students...and teachers...where are they?" He was clueless as to what really went on in the village after he was placed in the boat. He was expecting the worst from the sights that he did see before entering the boat.

Andou nodded in approval. "Good, you know your stuff," he said. "The books will have much more and it'll be best if you discover their contents for yourself. I'll give you a short summary though. There are 12 hand seals, one for each animal in the zodiac, and I expect you to know them all by tomorrow. You can't do anything as a shinobi without them... except basic taijutsu." Andou was assuming that the boy knew the differences between ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu. "There are 5 elements in the world, and 5 corresponding elements of chakra, which affects what jutsu one can use. For example, I'm Water Affinity. Therefore, I'm naturally more in-tune with water and can control it better," Andou said, casually making a water clone to show the boy. "You'll be learning this jutsu later, but a simpler version. It'll be a while before you can learn this form." Andou was talking about the Bunshin no Jutsu of course.
Then Yoroi asked his question and Andou sighed mentally. Well, it was a perfectly good question so he might as well answer it. "Unless you've been under a rock for the past few months, you would know that Kirigakure was under attack. We lost many shinobi trying to repel the forces." Andou would be blunt. "Around 80%, actually. From all ranks, especially the higher ones. I don't blame the villagers for not wanting to enroll their children into this dangerous job, even if I would prefer that they did..."
THen Andou changed demeanour again back to his normal self. "At any rate," he said, flipping open one of the books, "Here's a chart of the hand seals. I want you to memorise these as quickly as possible. You don't have to get them all instantly today, but at least one for the afternoon. Then you can manipulate chakra."

Yoroi grabbed the book and cracked it open. It still had that new book smell, even though it looked used. The pages were filled with all sorts of things about chakra and its manipulation. He turned to the page with the hand seals. They looked more complicated than what his father had showed him. He tried to do each one but each time one or two fingers would be out of place. He then decided he would have to try them one at a time and really study how the postion of his fingers would have to be. He got a smile from the challenge that would be before him.

Yoroi looked at the first one on the page, the rat. He looked at the positions carefully and saw that it wasn't to hard to do, just simply hold your middle and index finger up and then with your right hand cover it up. He held it up to his teacher, "Like this sensei? Is this the rat handseal?" He was sure he had it done correctly. The first step to using ninjutsu was through this exercise and he could see the end result in his mind. He gave a smile at his joyous thoughts of fulfilling his dream. His father would be proud of him...if he was there... Alright Father... I did it! You tried so hard to teach me and now I am able to do it. I'll be like you in no time. Just watch...

Next on the page was the snake. He looked at it, "This one is a piece of cake! Just do this," he said as he put his hands together. "So sensei, after doing all these different hand seals will I be able to do any jutsu?" He knew that chakra was needed for jutsu and that if he used all of his h would die, but he wasn't sure if that meant he needed a base amount of chakra before being able to use a jutsu. "Can anyone do any jutsu if they tried it? I know they would probably die doing it, but could they?" He remembered watching his father perform some jutsu once and how amazing it was to be able to see it. Even seeing his own teacher use the water clone technique. I can't wait to be able to do that!

Yoroi continued on with his training by looking at the next one, the ram. He took both his middle and index fingers on both hands and pointed them up leaving the others curled into his palm. He placed his left hand on top making the pinky finger and the ring finger cover the same two on the other side. Ha! Done with this one, let's go right to the other! He looked at the next one on the page, which was the monkey. He looked carefully at the picture. It looked confusing at first and he put his hands together. It didn't look all that well at first, but he used the book as a guide. He placed the left hand over the right and crossed the pinky and the thumb, "I think I'm getting the hang of this sensei."

The next one Yoroi was to work on was the Ox hand seal. The picture was slightly faded from previous use. He took a close look at the picture and made an attempt at it. Something didn't look right. Was it his fingers or his whole hand? He couldn't tell. He looked closer at the picture and tried to reconstruct it in his mind. He realized what he was doing wrong. He was supposed to put the middle two fingers and bend them down to touch his hand. He looked at the picture and then looked at his hands. Five down... seven more to go...

[Stick to 1 dice per post, please. XD I'll let it slide this time. But don't do it again~ >_>. Also, someone's lucky. =P]
As Yoroi opened the book and got busy, Andou merely settled down in his chair and observed Yoroi. This had always been his least favourite part of teaching. Just not doing anything and sitting there, waiting for his students to just get on with it. But he also recognised that this was an essential part of his students' education. It seemed that Yoroi was really enthusiastic about it, since he was tackling his assignment with gusto. It wasn't every day that Andou had students who liked reading and studying, and he appreciated that Yoroi was a conscientious, quiet worker instead of a loudmouth prankster like some of his old students had been. He continually asked Andou questions that could be answered noncommittally ("Yes", "Mm", "Ah", "Mhm" and others) as well as some that couldn't. When Yoroi asked about doing jutsu, Andou thought about how much he wanted him to know at the moment, then answered, "Yes. The hand seals help you control and refine your chakra in certain ways, making it simpler to perform jutsu. Theoretically... you could," Andou admitted. "But that isn't saying much. It's like saying any old guy could carve a detailed small figurine with a hammer. For some jutsu, failing to control the chakra is fatal, and you die without having even succeeded at the jutsu." Yes, this kid seemed to like to learn.
Since he would be there in the classroom for a while, while knowledge and theory were imparted into Yoroi's brain, Andou decided that he might as well do something useful. And educational. He himself formed the rat seal, his preferred seal, and chakra began to pool about his two hands. It was of a sapphire blue colour, very matching with the decor actually. Andou wasn't concentrating hard or anything, but you could tell that ninjutsu totally wasn't his forte. He heard Yoroi say something that was probably answerable vaguely, so he gave a vague affirmation sound and a nod, before he remembered that he was supposed to be teaching his student. It wasn't only Yoroi that needed a lot of work.
"The rat seal is especially good for directing chakra within yourself," Andou informed his student. "When you want to enhance the functions of certain body parts, for example. The snake seal is found in many genjutsu. And the ox seal is what really puts the power behind the chakra."

Andou had not forgotten about his water clone. As he made himself comfortable in the classroom, concentrating on his sapphire chakra, he sent the water clone out so that it would disintegrate in peace, preferably on some plants. Kill two birds with one stone you know. Andou then broke off his concentration again and created another clone, this time just a normal one, before sending that one out. Andou may be teaching, but he needed to keep an eye on the village too. And he also had a couple of slacking students to taunt out. He should really learn that other technique that he'd heard Konoha had, the one where one could create a solid clone of themselves. A lot easier to handle and control than a formless basic clone. But of course, it was a secret village-specific technique, so there wasn't much point in hoping for that. Idly, Andou wondered if yoroi would notice his curious multiple clone creation, but decided not to say anything unless he asked.
With that taken care of, Andou looked briefly at Yoroi and how he was doing before returning to his chakra molding. Andou wasn't particularly in-tune with his chakra circulatory system, not as well as Batou and his grandma was, but he did all right. He liked to ensure that the chakra was evenly spread and that there were no stray clumps of chakra anyway in his system hindering the circulation. Experimentally, he sent one spark of chakra from his hands back into his system, focusing intently on it as it travelled. Granny Despada had taught him this trick and the first time he'd done it he'd come out feeling like a totally new combat machine.

((oops, sorry sweatdrop ))
Up next was the horse seal. He attempted to do it, but he couldn't get his thumbs to bend right. He became slightly frustrated and looked away from the book. He noticed Andou doing his water clone technique. "Will I get to learn how to do that next?" He looked at him hoping that he would, although he doubted it due to the training he would need to learn it. He just started and had a long way to go, but he was excited to learn all the new stuff and go out on missions.
