Plates upon plates were piled high with delectable dishes. Well, as exquisite as you could get with cafeteria food. He had his main-stays; potato salad, sandwiches, a few slices of pizza. Oreburgh City's Pokemon Center also had rock candy, something he had never seen before. It was just solidified sugar with light flavorings, but it was absolutely delicious! All of his Pokemon had burst from their Pokeballs to dig in as well. Grovyle had chosen a leafy salad, Monferno had started digging in to a large bowl of noodles. Cable, his trusty Electivire, had gone with the same amount of food as Kilik and just as large a variety. Drifloon chose to quietly pick at the remains of Kilik's food as he passed the plate to the end of the table. Klink and Exeggcute, however...didn't eat anything. The boy raised an eyebrow at the two Pokemon, who were quietly sitting at the edge of the bench.
Five of the six eggs huddled around one, very large egg. Their pupils dilated and then completely vanished, leaving nothing but the whites in their eyes. The central egg's eyes, however, grew large and shined blue. You are...my new master? he whispered telepathically to Kilik. He took note of the boy's surprise. Do not be alarmed. I am the Overlord Brain. The central control. I command the others with brilliance.
Kilik swallowed his food and turned to face the Exeggcute. A chill went down his spine at the sight of the smaller eggs having nothing in their eyes. It was as if they were possessed by the central one, which by the sounds of it, they were. In his mind, he could hear the 'Overlord Brain' speaking to him with six distinct voices. It was as if they were all communicating with him at once. "Y-yes." Kilik nodded. His other Pokemon looked strangely at him. Why was he talking to himself? They didn't hear the voices. "My name is Kilik. I'm your new trainer. Are you okay with this?"
Affirmative. Kilik, as you have spoken, my disciples are being reconfigured to obey only your voice and mine. The smaller eggs slowly lifted up and circled the largest one like some sort of barrier. "Egg. Egg. Xcute." Each one chimed in, audibly, for the others to hear. And each distinct voice matched one of the six in Kilik's head. We are pleased. The other Pokemon you possess look very powerful. We look forward to sharing this strength.
Kilik nodded, still a bit shaken. Suddenly, the smaller eggs regained their eyes and fell onto the bench. They bounced excitedly, their 'reconfiguring' apparently complete. "You certainly weren't what I was expecting!" Kilik laughed, scratching the back of his head. He glanced over at Klink, the gears slowly turning as they examined the eggs.
The gears seemed genuinely curious about how the eggs functioned. There were no bones, nothing keeping it together. As a machine, he knew how he worked, despite having only lived for a few days. The eggs were a perplexing mystery. How could six separate entities function as one unit without some sort of mechanical binding? Even humans were bound by flesh and bone. It was a strange occurrence that would need to be closely examined and regulated.
How odd that he had come into possession of two Pokemon with seemingly split personalities, in such a relatively short amount of time. He sat up and removed his Poketch, holding it up at Monferno, who placed his hand in the shape of an L on his forehead and stuck out his tongue. "Haha, perfect," Kilik laughed, snapping a picture. As it came up, he immediately chose to send the picture to Katie.
"Told ya we'd catch up! Watch out! -Kilik R.
A little winking face with his hair style (the avatar he had chosen) was placed next to the R. The note and picture were folded neatly into an envelope and a little Starly whisked it off to Katie's phone. He put the device back on his wrist, and tapped a few buttons and stretched. "Okay, gang. Think we should go tackle Roark now?" It felt like it had been forever since he'd arrived in Oreburgh and it was high time he finally went to get his badge. The boy recalled everyone into their balls, except for Cable, and stood up. It was time!

If there was any credit Scarlet had to give Bugsy, it was that the kid most definitely knew how to design a gym. An actual forest inside the little box even gave the boisterous redhead a little pause. After he finished spinning around in a circle a couple of times to take everything in, he grinned to himself and gave a nod of approval to no one in particular. “Heh, I guess being a gym leader has its perks.”
“Yeah,” a voice, soft but brimming with confidence answered from Scarlet’s left. “One of those perks is havin’ a few trainers around to keep out the riffraff.” How he missed the blue haired girl who sat against the base of one of the countless trees growing up from the gym floor, Scarlet decided he’d probably never know, but he had come to the decision that blue haired people were probably his least favorite in the world.
“My name’s Holly, and I’m gonna help decide if you’re even worth Bugsy’s time!” The bug catcher reached into her picnic basket and drew her hand out with a pokeball. “Go, Spinarak!” And with a flick of her wrist and a flash of blinding white light, a little green spider took the stage, a rather fierce expression etched onto the false face that seemed painted on its abdomen. It even shrieked at him.
Scarlet’s eyes narrowed for a moment as he halfway glared at the little thing. Then he smirked, following it up with a lazy, closed eyed shrug. “My name’s Scarlet. It’s not terribly important I tell you that now, though, since it’ll be totally famous. The man who’s gonna be league champ’s got no real reason to be afraid of a glorified door man. … Or woman. … I’m gonna win, is the point.”
The redhead reached for one of the sphere’s on his belt, namely the one that contained his trusted fishy companion. Then he heard an inquisitive click from the ground beside him. He glanced down and found his new teammate shuffling from behind his leg. Sledge faced the Spinarak with what Scarlet assumed to be determination, before bumping up against his leg. Then Sledge descended on the battlefield, a white sheen overtaking him.

“Heh, sorry bout that! I guess my little roggenrola decided to kick things off,” Scarlet grinned apologetically, though the pride he felt in the little guy taking up the initiative and starting off with the small defensive hike Harden offered made the apology not as sincere as he might’ve hoped.
“Not at all,” Holly shrugged, only momentarily observing the odd foreign pokemon her opponent had brought out. After all, geodude, roggenrola (boy she hoped that was a nickname), what difference did it make? A giant rock was a giant rock, and a terrible match up was just that. “Well, Spinarak, let’s start off making sure that thing can’t catch you so easily! Scary Face!”
The dopey looking spider raised his not so dopey back-face in the air, balancing his weight on his front four legs. The fake face’s mouth seemed to tear open in a jagged grin, its eyes narrowing to slits, and like that, a terror inducing aura exuded from it.
“Never thought I’d be so happy you couldn’t see, Sledge,” Scarlet frowned. After all, how was something like Scary Face gonna affect his blind-
It was about that moment in his thought train that the Mantle Pokemon shuddered, as if he could feel the terrible face leering at him, and Scarlet’s jaw dropped in sheer shock. “What!? Oh man, okay, don’t freak out, Sledge, let’s try another Harden!”
The shaken Roggenrola complied. After all, if his defenses were high enough, what in the world could hurt him?
“Ugh, that is the most annoying move! Spinarak, I doubt he’s dodging, so let’s follow up with a poison sting!” They had a pretty okay chance of poisoning the little rock (though she wasn’t entirely sure how that worked physiologically, she wasn’t going to tempt the universe by asking how). Spinarak nodded, and as quickly as his stubby little legs would carry him (which was not very quickly at all), he approached Sledge, his mandibles taking on a deep purple hue. And with the most vicious chomp he could muster, he bit Sledge.

Apparently, the worst thing that could happen was actually very, very bad, as everyone in the room was about to find out. The light shining from Clefable's dancing fingers peaked, and for a moment there was nothing but a deafening silence. The look on Clefable's face seemed to say it all, however; the Fairy Pokemon knew something was about to go terribly, horribly wrong, and all she could do was close her eyes and brace herself as her whole body had started to glow with a white-hot light. Both trainers seemed to clue in to what was happening at the same time, and they could only stare helplessly as Clefable detonated in a loud Explosion (not literally, of course as they would have had trouble explaining that one to Norman), and the wave of expelled energy rocked the room.
When the dust settled, Clefable was curled into a ball on the ground, KO'd into the middle of next week while Artemis had retreated to the farthest corner of the room possible, managing to suffer only minimal injuries. Keegan had somehow managed to remain upright through all of it and he opened his eyes and looked around. The wall to their immediate right had a large chunk blown out of it, and the two trainers that had been sparing with a Delcatty and Linoone were staring at him, mouths agape. Unable to think of anything to say in his defense, the redhead quickly took a step back and pointed at Alexia accusingly. "She did it!"
As the trainers turned their eyes on the girl, Keegan quickly recalled Artemis into her PokeBall before anything else could happen. "Everybody all right over there?" he asked, looking back at Dante and the kids. "I guess we're done here, what do you say we move on before something or someone else decides to explode?" Patting both Hades and the young Turtwig on the heads, he turned and walked across the room toward the far door, stepping over a fallen piece of wall as he did so. "Don't sweat it," he whispered to Alexia as he passed by her. "One of the more interesting battles I've been a part of." He chuckled and continued on, only just reading the sign above the door before opening it. "Attack Room," he muttered as he stepped inside. "Gee, I wonder what that means?"

It was a short walk to the entrance to the forest, and although Jett wanted to let Viy out of his Pokeball, he feared that the bug's inquisitive nature would have him wandering around and getting lost. Granted, that could happen in the woods, too, but he would cross that bridge if he came to it. The raven-haired boy passed through the significantly cooler building connecting the small town and its forest, nodding at the attendant sitting at his computer. He was never quite sure what their job description was, but it certainly didn't seem lively. At least, not right now.
Ilex Forest was comparatively darker than Azalea Town had been -- Jett immediately looked up as he exited the building and noticed that its trees stretched far up, making a heavy canopy of leaves. "All right, Viy," he mumbled, clicking open the Pokeball on his belt. The oddly-colored Venipede was out instantly, and although he looked around this new environment with unrestrained curiosity, he immediately returned to his perch upon his trainer's head. "Sorry for keeping you cooped up for so long, but we won a gym battle! Isn't that exciting?" There was no verbal response from the bug, whose expression would have shown his own disinterest. "Anyways, I figured that while we're here, we can train! I realized that we haven't even battled together before." Again, little response. While that boy himself was very nice, the Venipede had no interest in such abstract, trivial things like victory and glory. If the rest of his team was strong enough to win battles, why did he have to participate in such barbaric practices? It was decidedly below him. Fortunately, Jett could not decipher his bug's thoughts and thus, his spirits were not crushed. Instead, the two of them were content to walk a bit into the forest, Jett looking for opponents and Viy examining everything he could, his feelers twitching away. And although the both of them were looking for different things, the sight of a Caterpie excited them both. An opponent for Jett! An organism in its natural habitat for Viy!
The Caterpie in question, perhaps not as brave nor as wily as the already-caught one Scarlet had encountered previously, spotted the pair and finished its descent from a tree branch, aided by the use of its String Shot. It squealed happily, wriggling in front of the two in its form of a challenge. "All right, buddy, go for it!" Jett grinned, grabbing his surprised Venipede and setting him down on level with the Worm Pokemon. The two stared at each other for a moment, the Caterpie's expression eager and Viy's annoyed. After what seemed to be an eternity to everyone, Caterpie bolted forward with as much speed as it could muster, landing a solid Tackle. The Centipede Pokemon's eyes opened up all the way after he had been knocked back, astonished. But, instead of retaliating, he curled up in a tight ball. Is... is he afraid? Jett wondered, frowning lightly. He didn't want to step in and issue commands yet, just to see what his Pokemon was capable of. But if he didn't do something soon...
And then Caterpie had the audacity to Tackle her (Viy had deduced its gender, even in her brutal onslaught of attacks; Jett could have used his observational skills a long time ago) opponent again. The tiny ball that was now Viy rocked back and forth a little. "Um..." Jett was honestly unsure of what to do. The Venipede had never seemed shy or scared before. Right when he was about to get his Pokedex to find an appropriate attack to order, the little ball began to spin in place, picking up speed until it was angrily kicking up dirt. Viy found himself making contact with the Caterpie again, but this time, he was the aggressor, using Rollout ruthlessly. And, with the Defense Curl used before, it only made the hit pack that much more of a punch. And that infuriating little worm's shriek was reward enough for the centipede, but Jett's approving cheer was nice, too.

Of course biting a rock whose ridiculous defenses were even further increased by its harden went about as well as Scarlet hoped. The roggenrola simply awaited orders at he was fruitlessly chewed on by an angry spider.
“HAH! Okay! Let’s go for a tackle now, little buddy!” Sledge clicked once, then threw his weight directly into the offending spider’s face. Spinarak cried out in pain and rolled backwards, the face on its abdomen grimacing in agony.
“Tch, okay! We’re not done yet, Spinarak!” Holly spat as she pulled herself from the ground. She thrust a finger toward the offending little rock, anger plain on her face. “Try for constrict!”
Spinarak shot a line of webbing out of its mouth, earning a distressed grouping of ticks, clicks, and clacks from Sledge. And it drew itself in, all six of its legs binding the little rock as best it could. It squeezed tight, or as tightly as one could squeeze a rock, which wasn’t all that tightly at all. Watching the poor thing made Holly resolve to go out and buy her spinarak a decent TM.
Scarlet was in a similar boat, an annoyed frown passing across his face as he absentmindedly wondered how long it would be until Sledge at least had a rock move to work with. Ah well. Tackle does okay damage, and constrict can’t really interfere with that, now can it? Scarlet clenched his fist, then took a breath. We’re almost there. “Sledge! Another tackle!”
The Rock-type didn’t seem too concerned now that he was relatively sure he wouldn’t be deafened in a cocoon of webbing again, so he did just as he was ordered. The Roggenrola simply decided to fall over, and directly on top of Spinarak, who screeched and flailed wildly underneath for the few seconds it took Holly to find his ball and recall him. “Tch… Don’t think this is over! Pokeball! Go!”

Okay, so his very-generous opponent had given him a much-needed second chance to not continue to screw this up on an epic scale, and Jasper's fingers twitched lightly as he went over his three options. Zorua had seen a lot of action lately and to be honest, even he didn't feel like dealing with her Illusions right now. Ditto transforming into a Tangela, Yanma or even another Koffing would just be a waste and he finally settled on Croconaw, hoping she was feeling up to fighting after eating part of the decor of the Violet City Pokemon Center. "All right Croconaw, have at 'em," he called - oh snap, he even got he name right - as the gator appeared in front of him. She was picking at her teeth with her claws but didn't look terribly put out by the fact that she'd just been called to battle.
Allan adjusted his glasses as he studied the newcomer. Perhaps this hadn't been such a good idea after all? As he glanced between his two Pokemon, however, an idea quickly came to mind and he even grinned a little. "Tangela, give Koffing a toss," he said, for the Vine Pokemon was still "snuggling" the poison type. Tangela, completely unhindered aside from the fact that it could not move, wrapped its vines around Koffing a little tighter before hoisting her into the air. Koffing didn't weigh an awful lot so it didn't take much effort to throw her, and the snoozing poison type sailed through the air before crashing right into Croconaw, who hadn't bothered to start paying attention yet, and both of Jasper's Pokemon hit the ground at the same time, grunting and groaning from the impact.
"Teamwork at its finest," Jasper muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger. The upside to all of that, however, was that the impact had finally awoken Koffing and she chortled as Croconaw shoved her away. "Koffing, how about you go bother Yanma? And Tackle it, while you're at it; you and that Tangela were a bit too friendly for my liking. As for you..." he turned to the irritated gator as she clambered to her feet, "go give that thing an introduction to your Bite attack." Allan watched from his side of the field, scratching his head in awe. Jasper hadn't been kidding when he said he'd never done a double battle before. The paralyzed Yanma was no match for Koffing's tenacity (if that's what you wanted to call it, anyway) and she rammed into it, laughing as it was temporarily helpless to do anything to stop her. Croconaw, meanwhile, had darted forward the moment she'd figured out what her command was (sometimes Jasper could be a bit too verbose), eager to chomp down on Tangela. She didn't get any closer than about three feet before the Vine Pokemon rudely interrupted her attack with a well-aimed Vine Whip that swept her feet out from under her, introducing the water type to the ground for the second time in about sixty seconds. * * * * * * * * * * Kaylee's weak cry was difficult for Hayley to listen to, and the brunette watched with sad eyes as her brave electric mouse slumped to the ground, the toxins from Sandshrew's Poison Sting already beginning to circulate through her body. The Pikachu feebly pulled herself to her feet, all four legs wobbling dangerously beneath her before they gave out, the poison having not had to work hard to steal away the last of her stamina. With a shaky hand, Hayley recalled the mouse. While Kaylee had performed admirably, she'd really hoped the Pikachu would have been able to overcome her type disadvantage, though it did occur to her that Sandshrew didn't seem to be able to use any ground type attacks just yet and that might have been why the Pikachu had done so well.
Refusing to let the loss get her down, Hayley decided to test her luck with her other mouse, clicking Kaylee's Pokeball safely into place before taking hold of Mya's. A flick of her wrist and a flash of light later, Mya the gutsy little Rattata appeared, raring to go. Hayley was fairly certain it wouldn't take much more to take Sandshrew out, as Kaylee had done quite a number on it, including paralyze it. "Mya, Bite attack! You can do it," she called. The tiny purple mouse zipped forward, closing in and sinking her teeth into Sandshrew's tough hide before Jerry could finish calling out his command. Too weak to continue, it was Sandshrew's turn to topple over.
Frowning, Jerry recalled his Pokemon, thinking for a moment before he sent out his second and last Pokemon as well. It was a little difficult to see at first, as it was so small, close to the ground and fast, too; but when she finally did see it, Hayley smiled - she'd never seen a Diglett in person before. "Mya, Quick Attack!" she called, and the Rattata sped forward. Though the battle wasn't over yet, she couldn't help but feel relieved that Jerry's second Pokemon hadn't been a rock type.

Falkner had already been keenly aware that one little zap from the Pikachu would put an end to Hoothoot's day, and as the owl spiraled toward the ground (his altitude having climbed in a failed attempt to escape the Thundershock) the blue-haired gym leader calmly recalled it before it could hit the ground and be hurt even further.
Now, this was not the first time that he'd faced an Electric-type, and he knew it wasn't likely to be the last, either. Falkner closed his eyes for a moment, centering his focus before he tossed up his last Pokeball. His trusted Pidgeotto made its presence known, trilling loudly as it glared down at the electric rat with obvious dislike. "You know what to do," the gym leader said quietly. Pidgeotto's wings began to flap as it moved forward, kicking up a fierce blast of sand and dust from the floor and right into the troublesome Pikachu's face.

Holly grinned fiercely as she drew another Pokeball from the shadowy depths of her picnic basket and freed her next pokemon from the confines of its sphere. In a flash, there was the second member of her team. Standing on the field now was a fuzzy purple ball, giant red eyes curiously eyeing Sledge, its two massive fangs twitching.
“Oooh, a Venonat. Been a while since I’ve seen one of those,” Scarlet muttered. “Come back, Sledge! You did really well! I’m proud of you!” This click sounded excited. Sledge shuffled back to his comfortable spot behind Scarlet’s leg. And as his trainer knelt down to pat his head, he also fished another sphere from his belt. Scarlet clicked the button on the front, and the red light that issued forth from the ball heralded the arrival of a red fish.
“Karp,” the Magikarp mumbled, her jet black eye dancing around the field before zeroing in on who she assumed would be her tango partner for the afternoon.
“You cannot be serious,” Holly muttered, not entirely sure whether to laugh or be completely insulted. “Venonat, we’ve got no time for this,” she said after a moment’s pause and a sigh. “Confusion!”
The Venonat made not a peep in reply. Its eyes just took on a crimson glow, segments shining bright as a violet aura overtook its body.
“Uh oh. Oh man, uh, Halibel! Jump over it!” Scarlet panicked, flailing his arms as a psychic bolt of energy blasting toward the fish. She complied as quickly as she could, though, slapping her tail on the ground and vaulting up into the sky. If this were an Olympic high jump at the Pokeathlon, it would’ve been great. Amazing. Beautiful. But as a dodge for a psychic strike, it was more a 3/10. The blast clipped her in the dorsal fin, and though she’d avoided a chunk of the blast, she was still spinning, hurtling even, through the air, landing in the grass behind the Venonat with a loud smack. Scarlet winced, nervously staring down the battlefield, and Holly could only watch with half-lidded boredom as the big talker’s magikarp went down as expected. Scarlet even heard a sharp intake of air from the Mantle Pokemon.
“… We’re not done yet, right Halibel? You wanna try for a tackle?” There wasn’t so much surety as there could’ve been in the redhead’s voice. After all, Magikarp were widely regarded as the weakest pokemon there were. But no one told this particular Magikarp that. She shot the Venonat’s back a glare that would make a Gyarados proud and slapped her tail on the ground with all the force she could muster. And like a small crimson cruise missile, she crashed into the center of the Venonat’s back, sending it stumbling forward.

Surge's gaze moved back and forth between the girl and his Pokemon, truly hating the guesswork that was involved when one had to try and pinpoint both the exact time and place a digging Pokemon would resurface. It didn't help that Marshall wasn't all that big, so there wouldn't be many signs of where he'd be showing up. And then, right in front of Raichu, a blue missile launched itself out of the ground, catching the mouse right in the gut.
"Raichu, use Mega Punch!" Surge thundered. Growling fiercely, the Electric-type swung his glowing fist at Marshall, but in an odd turn of events, it appeared that the Wooper actually managed to springboard off Raichu's stomach, and the powerful punch hit nothing. Growling, sparks flared from the mouse's cheeks; about the only thing he and his master could hope for at this point was contact-induced paralysis.
=-=-=-=-= As Jade turned, Jaeshan felt his heart nearly stop as he was certain she was about to yank her hands free and walk away from him, but this wasn't the case as she was gently pulling him along with her until they had reached the bench she'd occupied only moments ago. Every passing second where she didn't run away from him only helped him to feel calmer, even though she hadn't said much of anything yet. He looked down at their hands, marveling at the warmth he felt from the dark-haired girl and his heart fluttered wildly in his chest. He looked back up at her as she told him that she didn't hate him, and a small floodgate of relief let go in his chest, but it was easy to see that she had something else on her mind. Her voice was quivering, and he could feel her hands shaking and he gave them a light squeeze with his own, trying to reassure her, even though he didn't know why. He did know that it was very unlike Jade to get worked up like this, even with the bombshell he'd more or less just dropped on her. Normally, she would have made jokes and poke fun at his expense, but this wasn't the case this time and he nodded as she suggested that they return to the Pokemon Center.
"Yeah, that sounds good," he agreed, allowing her to pull him up and he sighed. He was feeling significantly better now, even if his mind almost felt more blank than it had before Lisa had shown up with her familiar voice and blue hair and her newspaper clipping. Spotting the offending piece of paper still lying on the bench he grabbed it and folded it up before cramming it back into the pocket of his aviator jacket. He wasn't sure what it could be that Jade wanted to tell him, as he didn't feel like he'd earned any sort of trust from her, but at the same time, he was very curious as to what it was she had to say. Despite his ever-growing feelings for her, he still didn't know very much about her, which was rather ironic considering his own situation.
The center itself wasn't very far, and they walked in a silence that was both awkward and comforting - a very strange mix, indeed, but Jaeshan felt calmer with Jade by his side nevertheless. They arrived back at the red-roofed building shortly, but rather than going up to the front desk to get their Pokemon treated, Jae headed over to the vending machine and got two bottles of water, and he looked around the fairly busy lobby with a frown as he offered Jade one of the bottles. "Uh... okay," he said, giving a light shrug of his shoulders. "Where to?"

"Hm..." Mike scratched his head at the mention of Alphonse's poor track record. "Well, I know you've already beaten Brock, so that would be a little bit awkward to just kinda kick down that door again." That wasn't very helpful, he thought as he ground a piece of bacon between his teeth. Normal people chewed, Mike. "We could run around Mt. Moon a bit." he offered somewhat jokingly. He was sure that this time around neither of them would run into the same issues that plagued them during their last trip through that miserable dark cave. He could just have Beacon light the whole thing up with his tail and blast any inquisitive Zubat to dust. "If you're looking for something a bit more structured, you could try taking Roxanne down a few pegs-wait, unless you've already gotten that badge. Stone Badge? Rustboro? I lose track sometimes." To be fair, with all the region hopping that went on, he sometimes forgot which badges he had. Make that most of the times. He snuck a peek just to make sure. "Surge, Koga, Nina. Right."
When Kasiya turned the question back around to him, the gear inside his head started to smoke a bit as he tried to come up with an answer. "Nothing pressing, really." he said after some noticeable effort. "I'd like to take a swing at Brock myself to give Camerae some more experience, but I can do that anytime. However..." he smirked at his girlfriend's last comment, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Some more normalcy doesn't sound like a terrible suggestion." he fluttered his eyebrows suggestively, more playful than serious. "I do love the thrown together look you have going on right now."

For a while, the two continued on without any encounters, which was pretty lucky. Eventually, though, she heard some rustling off of the path and slowed a little, looking towards the sound. A Bellsprout jumped out in front of the girl and her Pikachu, very clear looking to challenge them. Pikachu jumped off of Train's shoulder, ready to fight.
"No, wait," Train said, leaning down and picking the Pokémon back up. He squirmed out of her grasp and landed on the ground again, turning to face her, displeased. "This will be perfect for Growlithe," She informed him, motioning for the mouse to move back before the Bellsprout attacked him, which it looked very prepared to do at this point. Pikachu obeyed, moving a little behind the girl. He supposed he didn't have to battle (but he wanted to, humph).
The dirty-blonde-haired girl unclipped the fourth PokéBall off of her belt, enlarging it before tossing it up lightly. Growlithe appeared in front of her, and the Bellsprout had no hesitation as vines shot out from its body in a Vine Whip attack. Growlithe had no time to react, only crying out in surprise and pain as the vines hit him, but as they retracted he realised that, while that had certainly been unexpected and unpleasant, it seemed not to have done much to him besides, well, be unexpected and unpleasant.
"Ember!" Train commanded, and Growlithe was happy to comply. He loved using his Ember attack! He opened his mouth and shot out a small stream of flames directly towards the Bellsprout, who was very aware of what fire did to his plant body and was not at all happy about this.+=+=+=+=+ Leon only turned slightly as a very loud voice suddenly rang out. She asked him a question, but then continued speaking (practically yelling). Oh. She had a whole speech planned out. That wasn't surprising, as she must have a lot of time to think about what to say just sitting there in the dark all day.
"Muuma," Leon said simply after the girl released a Pokémon, and continued to talk. Unworthy weakling, huh? She was certainly quick to make assumptions. Muuma floated forward, looking at the girl very briefly before settling her focus on the opposing Pokémon. "Use Psybeam." The Misdreavus' eyes began to glow red, and a multi-colored beam quickly shot out straight for the Machop.

The final conclusion of that battle almost blew Dante away. The force of the explosion pushed him a little further back into the wall, making him glad he was leaning against it in the first place. Looking at the results of the explosion Dante could guess that Norman would not be to happy when he saw the huge hole in his gym floor. Seeing Keegan approach he felt a small bit of pressure release on his arm as the baby Turtwig let go of her bit to look up with adoring eyes at Keegan. Grinning Dante followed Keegan into the next room. "So you could say that battle was explosive Keegan. A real blast. The kids and I were almost blown away at your battle prowess." The smug and teasing grin on Dante's face was pretty much enough to get almost anyone pissed off in just a second. Seeing the next room was the attack room he wondered if this battle would be over faster then this last one, after all the defense room lasted much longer then the speed room. "Plan on blasting your way through here as well? That didn't work so well in the defense room." A small thought in Dante's head was telling him to shut up because Keegan wasn't known for his patience.

Before Amy had a chance to even comprehend what a Mega Punch would do to her poor little Wooper, Lady Luck smiled upon her and Marshall was literally bouncing off of the Raichu's belly, giggling all the while. That giggling promptly ceased, however, when he realized that he would not be landing on his feet. "Flip!" Amy called, and even though he heard her, he did not follow commands. Instead, the Water Fish Pokemon landed harshly on his back, skidding a few feet before laying still. His breathing grew labored, and it was an apparent difficult for him to get up. "Marshall!"
"Woop," he gasped, slowly standing. Despite his usual indefatigable nature, the Wooper looked almost exhausted. Amy didn't understand; although he had taken some heavy hits, so had Raichu, and the mouse appeared to be in much better shape. Were they that outclassed here? The bespectacled girl ordered for a Mud Bomb, and just as the Water/Ground-type began to ready the attack, static electricity sparked around him. He's paralyzed, Amy realized, eyes narrowing. Although that explained a lot of his behavior, there was still something else about it. Whereas he had been playful for most of the battle, Marshall's expression had grown quite determined now. Amy decided she could not worry about it now; Marshall's paralysis had left him wide open for attack, and she feared that all it would take to end this battle was another Iron Tail or a solid Mega Punch.

While her companion (it was still difficult to think of him as Jaeshan and not Jake) seemed to grow calmer by the minute, Jade was the opposite. All the while to the Pokecenter, she grew more and more anxious, rephrasing the speech in her head, trying to figure out how much she should let him know. Would he know who she was talking about if she told him specifics? From the sounds of it, he was far more experienced than she had originally anticipated, but...
The sight of a crowded Pokecenter did not bring her any solace. Jade stood rooted to the spot, gratefully accepting the bottle of water Jaeshan offered her. "Thanks," she mumbled, looking around when he asked where they should go. She noticed that she couldn't catch sight of the girl who had been so preoccupied with her previously, or that blue-haired girl. "Come on," Jade said, leading them down the hallway, back to the room she had gotten when she first came into Eterna. The silence that greeted them was better than the noisiness outside, at least in the dark-haired girl's opinion. "You can sit down, if you want." She waved her hand dismissively at the bed, instead opting to stand despite how weak her legs felt. It was obvious that there was something to say, from the way she began to pace, that it was her turn to confess the truth about everything. Finally, Jade stood right in front of Jaeshan, her expression almost resigned.
"I'm a runaway." It seemed almost childish, the way the word sounded. Runaway. Like she was a child, trying to get attention from absentee parents. "I didn't... it isn't what it sounds like. When I was born, my parents, or at least my mother, they didn't want me, so they gave me away. I was taken in by this... group that raised me instead. They wanted me to become one of them, and for the longest time, I wanted to become one of them, too. I was so stupid." It was strange, how she was almost hysterical moments ago, but as she spoke, a strange sense of calm began to spread through her. It was like accepting her own death; a sudden clarity overcame her, like she was an outsider observing her own life. Running so far from the truth would change nothing, because even if she looked back, it would still be there. It would always be there. "I swore an oath, a sacred vow. It isn't like what you're thinking. When you swear it, you swear to serve them for life. I was fifteen. I didn't know what I was doing, what I was giving up at the time. And after two years, all I knew was that I couldn't take it anymore. So I did it. I ran away." She stopped speaking then, sitting beside the blonde on the bed, looking down at her lap. Her voice did not sound panicked or hysterical anymore; it had the soft surety of sadness now, the weightiness and finality of only someone who seemed to know their own fate. "I don't think I've been happier than in these past few days with my Pokemon," she said, and then added, as if it was a secret, "and with you." Jade didn't think it needed saying, but considering how the blonde had reacted to her alleged rejection before, she needed to help him out a little.
"You're the only friend I've ever had, you know." It was only then that she could look Jaeshan in the eye. "The only real one. The only good one." Unthinkingly, she took the boy's hand again, almost smiling. "I'm scared, Jaeshan." She could not bear to think what would happen if all of this was ripped away from her, but at the same time, this entire life seemed so precarious, a bubble waiting to be popped. Truth be told, she had no idea what the future had in store for her, but either way, it frightened her to her very core. And she was frightened of the silence was followed, waiting for Jae's response, filled with uncertainty.

Caterpie was quick to struggle to get up, although it was clear that the Rollout had hit her pretty hard, due to its super-effectiveness. "Good job, Viy!" Jett called, and Caterpie squealed again, although this time it had definitely taken on an angry tone. She very obviously did not agree that this was a good job. Was this boy raising a murderer? A monster? If so, then, by all means, good job to him! Indignantly, she turned back toward the still-rolling bug, spitting a String Shot at him in order to slow him down. Her attempt was in vain, as the Rollout onslaught was not interrupted, but rather driven faster by Viy's desire to end this battle as quickly as possible. What an annoyance.
The next collision with the Worm Pokemon went about as well as anyone could expect: Caterpie was sent flying, her high-pitched screeching echoing throughout the forest as she landed in some tree branch far, far away. The ball unrolled, revealing the Venipede in top form, his expression quickly taking on the same detachment that was the norm. "Wow, you don't mess around, huh?" the raven-haired boy asked, undeterred by his Pokemon's almost frightening nature. He picked him up, smiling. Luckily for him, the centipede was not angry and instead humored him, making a strange sound that was akin to purring. It grew tiring after a few moments, and he ceased all noises, instead beginning to wriggle free from the boy's grip. "Fine, fine," Jett said, setting the bug down on the ground once more. "Ready to move on?" Before they could take two steps forward, however, both were alerted to the sound of some bushes rustling and out came a boy even younger than Jett, wide-eyed.
"I thought I heard the sound of battling over here!" he crowed, grinning eagerly at the older boy and his Pokemon. "What a weird lookin' bug! Do you wanna battle? Wait, don't answer that! If a challenge has been issued, you can't refuse!" Before Jett could get a word in edgewise, he was already throwing out a Pokeball, releasing a particularly feisty looking Rattata. "Let's go!"
"Geez, okay," Jett said, wincing a little at how noisy and overeager this kid was. He remembered when he was like that. Well, considering it was around like, last week, back when he was in Rustboro and getting his a** kicked every which way by Roxanne and that sour, purple-haired dude, the memories were fresh in mind. Didn't mean he still didn't want to relive them, considering how embarrassing he was. "All right, Viy, let's go!" The Venipede looked at him incredulously. Hadn't he just battled? However, he was not going to let his reluctance get him unnecessarily hurt, as it had in the last battle. The Venipede crawled forward, catching the purple rat's eyes, now deciding to wait for his trainer's orders. He could not win every battle on his own, now could he?

"A Ghost-type, huh? In a Fighting-type gym, you must think you have all of the advantage here..." Tessa continued, grinning wolfishly at the laconic trainer and his Misdreavus. "Machop," she said, and the Superpower Pokemon nodded, kicking off of the ground and, with the aid of his superior strength, dodging the psychic attack. What was a big hassle was the recent change in her Machop's movepool, for some unknown reason. Now, he was too weak to know Foresight, and he was a newer Pokemon of Tessa's, so she didn't have the benefit of having an older one who already knew the move. But that would not stop them! "Use Payback!"
Machop grinned, fists glowing with a black aura. As he descended from his high jump, he attempted to swipe at Muuma with his fists, and since he was attacking after her, the attack would have done double the damage. "Trainers come in all the time with their newly-caught Sableye, thinking that they can walk all over us! But we're not that stupid. We have TMs that we teach our Pokemon, so now you don't know what to expect!" Tessa's eyes narrowed as a thought occurred to her. "I suppose I never introduced myself. I'm Tessa. You don't have to tell me your name; it doesn't matter anyways." She grinned again, a challenge clear in her voice. "You can tell me after I defeat you."
