Punch Buggy

"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matt 6:33) NKJV.

Has there ever been something that no matter what, you just had to have it? Something that you just couldn't live without? Doesn't it seem funny when our wants sometimes turn into stuff we think we need, and that so-called need is changing every week? Well, this week I had a really nifty idea! If I really begged my dad and could somehow convince him that this umm new tow was to cool to pass up, then maybe I could get it. Yes, it is the one, the only, new VW Punch Bug!

Yea, you know that sexy little babe magnet that gets about 50 miles to the gallon. It's Herbie the love bug with a complete makeover. The first time my eyes gazed towards the new vehicle, I was in love. I looked like one of those cartoon characters picking their mouth up off the floor. I'm talking this was one sweet car.

How was I going to get this thing though, and how was I going to par for it? Well, let's just say I hadn't thought about that part yet. The only thing I was thinking about is I want that car. I need that car. But, what is the real purpose for it? Did I just want to look cool? Did I think that having something like that would solve all of my problems? Well, if anything it would make them more. How long would it be till something else, newer and better came out? Would I then scurry out to get it?

As I get older, my needs stay the same as wants continue to change. When once all I took was a He-man action figure to get me fired up, now it takes a little bit more and I see myself sadly laying the toy out to give away or sell at a yard sale. Yet, it was once a must and a need that I was going to treasure forever, now it's just a low profiled grin about what once was. With things changing in every aspect of looks, style, and price, one has stayed the same. That was the look of love on Jesus' face, the style of grace that would never leave His heart, and the price we would all remember on Calvary. With a message hat could never be doubted or traded in form something new. May peace be with you.

Getting to God

"When Aaron enters the sanctuary area, he must follow these instructions fully. He must first bring a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a whole burnt offering. Then he must wash his entire body and put on his linen tunic and the undergarments worn next to his body. He must tie the linen sash around his waist and put the linen turban on his head. These are his sacred garments. The people of Israel must then bring him two male goats for a sin offering and a ram for a whole burnt offering. (Leviticus 16:3-5) NLT

Shew...that's a lot of work just to get to God isn't it? Actually, to get to God they had to do a lot more...this was just to enter the sanctuary. Think of how much you have to do before entering your church. Hmmm...maybe put on some clothes? I mean, come on, how many of you actually have to put forth effort to enter God's sanctuary? Not me...and most likely, not you either.

Before Jesus (in old testament times) in order to get into the Holy of Holies (where God was) you had to go through more work than I put forth in a week. The book of Leviticus is full of tons of rules that must be followed in order to reach God. Besides the obvious need for a sacrifice for sins, this is one reason we need Jesus. Jesus says in John 14:6 (NLT) "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." Jesus became the way to get to God. That's a whole lot easier than going through all of the steps, isn't it?

Now that it's been made so easy for us, I think we sometimes forget how special it is. You see, back when it took hours and even days to ever reach God, they were full of awe and appreciation by the time they got there. Now, we take God for granted. He is still just as holy and just as amazing. We just have easy access through Jesus. So next time you say "Hey God," or whatever your greeting may be, remember who you are talking to and the sacrifice made for you to get there.

Mine

Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:25-28 (NIV)

Living the life God intended for us to live means that we put the wants and needs of others ahead of our own. This is not an easy concept to grasp and it’s even more difficult to live out. God calls us to empty ourselves for others. And we need to be doing that very thing.

A couple of days ago I was at my niece’s birthday party to celebrate her turning 4 years old. It was a Dora the Explorer themed party. There were Dora plates and napkins, Dora decorations, a Dora cake and Dora wrapping paper. My niece was busy opening up her presents when an excited kid came to help her and tried to open one of the presents for her. The following moments were intense, as the air grew thick with hostility. My niece nudged the other kid away with her elbow and said in a loud voice “MINE”. There was no questioning to whom those presents belonged.

It’s in our nature to be selfish and not share our things. We want to be first, we want to be the best and we want to make sure we are the one to die with the most toys. We are like the seagulls in the movie “Finding Nemo” whose only sentence is “mine, mine.” Selfishness seems to be at the root of our nature and is one of the major character defects God begins working on as we begin our journey with Him.

Selfishness and love are at odds with each other and cannot coexist within a person. As our personality grows more like that of Jesus, our selfishness gives way to love. This is one of those situations where feelings follow actions. Once we accomplish the action, the feeling will follow. We must first make the decision we are going to put the needs and wants of others before our own. If we make the decision before we get into the situation it won’t be hard to do the right thing in the moment of truth. Today pray that God will reveal to you the areas of your life that are selfish and ask Him to help you grow out of them. Make the decision to change them and walk in the footsteps of Christ. You will find that your true rewards don’t come in the presents that you get, but in the presents that you give up.

He will sustain you

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” Psalm 55:22

What a verse! It seems pretty simple at first and most of us wouldn’t look twice at it. But as I was sitting on the bus on the way to school at 7 am in the morning I read it again and realized there was more to it then what it first seems. Let’s break this verse down into two parts and see what we can get from this.
Well what does cast your cares on the Lord mean exactly? Does it mean to tell God your problems? Well that’s what I thought initially but there is more than that. It is more than just simply praying about your problems. It’s whole heartedly SURRENDERING. It’s one thing to tell God your problems but you need to give them to Him as well. Lay every aspect of it down for Him and ask him to take it, take all of it. You need to trust Him with it.

Now, let’s look at the second part of the verse, ‘and He will sustain you.’ Some of us might like to think after we whole-heartedly give our problems to God he will just make them go away. However, that is not what “sustain” means. It doesn’t mean that you won’t feel pain; it doesn’t even tell us that He will make it alright. What it does mean is that He will take care of you. He will hold you in his loving arms and just keep you there – if you let him. You need to trust that He knows best and He will sustain you and with Him you can make it through anything.

So I ask, what is it that you are not handing over to God? What is it that you are holding back on? Maybe you should go talk to our loving Father now and surrender some of your burdens, trust me you will feel a load lifted off your shoulders.

To give or to Recieve

*To give or to Recieve*

When I baby sit my brothers at this time of the year, its more challenging than any other. I believe that their whole goal in life in the month of December is to get to the presents under the tree as soon as they can.

Then I look at my sisters, who sneak around the Christmas tree, when they think no one else is around. They find all the presents with their names on them, and shake, rattle, and turn them until they are positive that they know what is in them.

Its sad though...I look around and see all the things that we are getting for Christmas, all the parties that I go to. All the cards and little gifts that I exchange with my friends. The new dresses and outfits that we get for Christmas card pictures, and get toghters.

I look under the tree and I know that the new rollerblades that I wanted are there. Along with the stereo, and cloths I thought were cute at the mall. There are all the newest fisherprice toys for my baby brother, a Furby for my sister, and a remote control car for my brother. All the material things that they could ever want.

Our society has given Christmas an image of shopping and Santa, candy canes and carolers.

But then I think about some thing that my school did. I live in a small town called Wayzata, which is on a large lake, making it a very tourstie town. As well as giving it a reputation of being very rich and preppy. Our high school is thought that way among all of the others in our sports conference. So our high school ever year has what we call a class cash war. Each grade’s student council members carry around Christmas buckets for one week, and everyone brings in money for these buckets. At the end of the week we count up the money and the winning class goes shopping. Not shopping for themselves though. We adopt five families, five families with children, that cant have Christmas because they can not afford it. This year we collected $ 8,956 for those families, and got them things for their Christmas.

Isn’t that what our grandparents use to tell us when we were little and so excited that we couldn’t wait for the 25th to roll around? “Its not the getting at Christmas but the giving.”

As teens we especially tend to be material orented, and focus mainly on if our shoes are in, or if we are wearing the right jeans. But there are those who cant have those things, and much less the name brands.

Friends everyone can spare something, weather it be $1 or $100, everyone can give something at Christmas time.

“The rich are not to give more than half a shekel, and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the Lord, atone for your lives.” Exodus 30:15 NIV

A line I in the Lords prayer says “Give us this day our daily bread” The lord provides for us all that we need, as Christians we want to do the same for those around us, because of the great love that God has and what he gives to us. He is our example and we are to live like him.

Dealing With Our Anger

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19-20

James writes to the church to help them understand how God feels about the subject of anger and his expectations of how Christians should deal with this subject matter. The phrase "Being quick to listen" can also be understood to mean "open ears before engaging mouth". I have often explained this to other individuals by asking a simple question: "why do you suppose God gave man two ears and one mouth"? The answer is an obvious one, however, not everyone comes to an understanding of it immediately.

If we were listening to others instead of trying to subdue them, shout (or shut) them down, or ignore what they are saying while we prepare a bomb to send back to them, then perhaps we might actually hear the reason for the conflict we are experiencing with them. Going a step further, it might just cause us to curb our anger and respond to individuals in a more Christian-like way, as God would desire for us to do. It's clear in the last verse that God wants us to do the right (Righteous) thing about anger.

In Ephesians, Paul addresses this subject to the church of Ephesus, "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry." That essentially, is God giving us a warning to take care of matters, before something worse comes our of it. All that being said, let's look at what the impact might possibly be for us. On the one hand, we can listen, deal with our anger, and resolve the conflict as God would want. We might also be an example to other Christians and non-believers in the process.

Now wouldn't that be an awesome way to glorify our God? The next time you find yourself entangled in a dispute, or an argument, try making an effort, at least to be willing to listen to the other party and attempt to work things out with them. God honors those who try to please Him. Be faithful to God's Word on the subject of anger, and see how He responds to it.

Pursuing the Blessing

So many times throughout my life I have had opportunities to reach others for Christ. Many through music, witnessing, or just helping out with a Christian affiliated event. I believe the Bible teaches that when we do such things, God desire's to bless us. Yet time and time again, we "miss," the blessing. I believe there is good reason for this. So many times when we do God's work, we are in it for the blessing. Whether we realize it or not, the motives of our hearts are often times impure. Although other's may still be reached for Christ, it is originally our selfish intent to receive God's blessing that motivates us to , "do God's work."

Another common mistake or downfall in our motives are the people around us. What I mean by that is, for instance, we go and usher at a Christian conference, because the guy or girl we like is going to be there. I encourage you to strive for holiness. Do things for God because you are so totally in love with Him and so consumed with Him, that you desire fellowship with Him in every way possible. God created us to have fellowship with Him and if the motives of our heart are impure, that builds a wall between us and God. Thus, defeating the sole purpose for our creation.

Let's reevaluate our motives and desires. Let's stop pursuing the blessing and start pursuing Christ. It is then that you will find happiness and peace in Christ. Then you truly will receive the blessings of Christ. Don't limit God, He desires to bless you so don't give Him any reason not to.

Keeping Your Cool

And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities. Acts 26:11

Oh I was mad. Furious even. I was about to lose it all. I am still amazed to this date how I kept it all inside. But, I have to give credit where credit was due. My step-dad fooled me pretty good.

It was April 1st, also known as April fools day. I woke up to the sound of my door being beat on. I slowly got up and tried to figure out what was going on. I was about eight years old and still in my night clothes when I was told that our cat got outside. So with just a t-shirt and underwear on I was told to hurry up and run around the house after him.

I took off not wanting to lose my cat. When I made a lap around the house I was informed that the feline took off around the house again to keep going. I must have made about seven trips around the house when my mom came out of the house holding him. "OH I am so glad you caught him!" But, then she laughed and said april fools. I then realized that I spent that last ten minutes running around my neighborhood with practically nothing on. What was I thinking!

I realized that getting upset didn’t do me a bit of good. My kitty was safe and that was all that mattered. When we lose our cool we lose control of a situation. That is when things can get ugly. Even when things do not go the way you want, stay focused and stay level headed. Because if you don’t, then April fools day will do more than just pull one over on you.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

This week, as I'm sure that you all know was the most terrible high school shooting spree, ever. In Littleton, Colorado. I know that a lot of us are asking a lot of questions, and wondering why it happened. I can't tell you why it happened, but I do know a start of making sure that it doesn't happen again. We need to get on a crusade to pray for public schools, and those of us who are in public schools need to take a stand for Christ! Tell people about Jesus. Who knows, the one person that you share the Gospel with might be the one that was planning an awful crime. God changes people, through Christ, and through their belief in His Son. I know that way too often, people don't talk about religion, and God in school, and at work. I wonder though, if more people did talk about Christ, what could be prevented from happening? We need to have the attitude of Paul!

"For I am NOT ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, it is the power of God to everyone that believes...." (Romans 1:16) We need to not be ashamed of it. It's God's power, and it can do miraculous things! You might not think that you are acting ashamed of the Gospel, but I ask you, if you had a friend, or relative that you hid away, and never talked about, or related to, would that be acting like you were ashamed of them? I think so!! That's what many of us do in our places of school, and work. We need to stand up and shine our lights! Christ is our light, and we need to be willing to shine for Him. Let's stop wasting time, and get to the point of us being here! "Go into all the world, and preach the good news to every witness." (Mark 15:16) We need to go!

Lord, help us to take a stand for you, where ever we are. Help us to tell people about you, and give us the words to say. Father, I ask that you give us the desire to continually uphold our schools, and workplaces to you in prayer, and that you help us to glorify you in all that we do. Thank you for sending us your Son, and guide as we go and tell others about Him. In Christ's blessed name. Amen

Are you Weary?

Come all who are weary and I will give you rest. It is a Bible verse and part of a lyric of a song. We walk around so weary with our heavy burdens of life. No one can escape it. Life makes us weary.

We try our own ways to make things work and end up working twice as hard. We can't sleep because we are so weary even though we are exhausted. We promise ourselves that tomorrow will be better but does it ever get better? Tomorrow brings it's own problems on top of yesterday's.

Now get the hint here? All who are weary come to ME (God) and I will give you rest. REST from the worry, exhaustion and problems life brings. You don't have to do this alone, God wants to take the weariness from you, He asks you to give it to Him. It is so simple, go to God in prayer and give Him what is making you weary and He will give you rest.

Beat Down

1 Peter 5:8 - "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

A few years ago, I flew out to Florida to minister at a Youth Event. Since we had a few days before the event itself, the Event Coordinator decided to show me some of the sights of Florida. Upon our departure from an amusement park, an argument broke out between two large men. One man was crossing the street with his (based on assumption) sister, wife, and infant. As they crossed the street with the infant in its stroller, a car drove up and the driver -- shouting obscenities -- demanded them to get out of the way. The other man saw it necessary to protect his family, but the driver was insistent on a fight. Pushing came to shoving, shoving came to hitting, and hitting came to wrapping a Road Block Barrier around the drivers head.

It was as if the driver waited for this man come to a crossroad before engaging into battle. Reality is, Satan is real. He is steady creeping around waiting for you to get to a crossroad before he attempts to beat you down. As a hunter waiting for its prey, Satan will go for the slowest, most weak creature. By living a life that is not devoted to God, you wave the white flag and fall to the ground -- waiting for Satan to shred your life to pieces. This scripture points out how you can protect yourself: Be self-controlled and alert. Be aware of your spiritual status, watch for areas of your life that fall short, tighten up loose ends. If there is a place for evil to rear its head, it will. Ephesians 6:13-18 gives Christians a description of the things God has given us to protect ourselves. Upon reading this passage, notice that in the description of the armor, NOTHING protects the backside. Why? Because God does not desire you to run, but to "Stand Firm in your faith." Also notice that there is ONE offensive tool, the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.

Wisdom is extremely valuable. Being able to pass on wisdom may mean saving someone's life. Just as police use lights and sirens to notify folks that they are en route to an emergency, use your spiritual wisdom to notify others about the reality of Satan. He's there and He's ready to rock your world. Know that with God...You can ROCK HIS!!!

You Matter

Matthew 5:5 (The Message)
"You're blessed when you're content with just who you are--no more, no less.
That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't
be bought.

Our teenage years are filled with frustration, pain, anguish and growth.
And that's the easy part. To say the least, its not an easy time of our
lives. But our teenage years are the years we find out who we are. They
are very important to us and teach us a lot, if we're even able to make it
through these severely trying times. Some sadly don't.

The world paints a picture to us of what success is. They say success is to
be rich, good-looking, skinny, in shape, to have the coolest of clothes, to
have seen the newest movies, to have the newest things and to be popular.
When we don't reach these expectations, we feel like losers. We feel like
were not successful and don't measure up like the rest of the world (like
they measure up either).

This scripture verse tells us not to worry about what we have or don't have,
or the way we look or don't. It gives us permission to be happy with
ourselves because of who we are. God made us each very uniquely. He made
us so special that no one else in the world is just like us. Other people
may have similar traits or interests, but no one else is just like us. God
made us each to be individuals.

You may not measure up to what the world says is success. But dear child of
God, you do measure up to what God calls success. God made you to be who
you are, dig in to that and find out where your niche is. Don't try to
fight against it by trying to reach the world's version of success. Just
like the ZOEgirl song "plain" says. "You are a jewel, you're a treasure,
you are one of a kind and you shine just as bright as the stars in the sky.
You're a rare kind of wonder created just right, so keep your head up over
the pain, there's nothing about you that's plain." Once you realize how
special you are to God and the big plans He has for you, you'll realize how
important you really are.

If God Forgave me...

Psalm 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our
transgressions from us. (NIV)

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance
of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience
and having our bodies washed with pure water. (NIV)

Colossians 1:22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy,
and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—(NKJV)

I John 1:7 says, “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light we have
fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all sin.” (NIV)

When we ask for questions for the Sunday Special request, it seems that this
question comes up very often in my mailbox by a number of people. Why do I
feel guilty if God forgave me? I talk to hundreds of students and I know
that there are many people who feel the very same way about this very
subject. I hope that my insight will help many of you.

It seems that we all understand what guilt is and know exactly how it feels.
Especially when we have committed a sin that we know that we should not have
really done. But, guilt with God is taken care of when it comes to
forgiveness of sins.

First, we have to understand that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior,
God promises that He would never stop forgiving you, no matter what you do
wrong. I John 1:7 says that the “Blood of Christ purifies us from all sin.”
That means that God purifies us from the time that we are saved and as we try
to live the Christian life. Also, our sin is forgotten and cast as far as
the east is from the west.

Second, we have to remember that Satan (“the accuser” Rev. 12:10) wants us
to feel guilty. He wants us to feel like that we are separated from the
forgiveness and love of God so that we may begin to believe his lies and
deception. He knows that these feelings of guilt will keep your mind too
busy to actually be where it is supposed to be glorifying God who gave you
the forgiveness.

Finally, when we are presented before God, he looks at us blameless because
of the blood of the lamb. We are blameless in God’s sight. Think about
that for a second….Is there a reason then to feel guilty? Absolutely not!
So you see, God has done an absolutely awesome thing by making sure that we
have no reason to feel guilty, and done it through the blood of His Son.
Just another benefit of being a child of God. Isn’t that awesome? May God’s
Grace Abound in You.

My 7th Heaven

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 34:7)

OK, before you read any further, check out that verse again. Pretty awesome, huh? If we will delight ourselves in our Heavenly Father, He will give you your heart's desires. Now if that doesn't get you excited I don't know what will.

After reading this verse, I began to think of some of the desires my heart has. Of course the first thing that pops into my mind are girls. Do we have any 7th Heaven TV Series fans? Well, there isn't a girl that takes my breath away like the one named Beverly Mitchell (also known as Lucy) on the show 7th Heaven. I keep telling my friends I'm going to marry her one day, just haven't gotten around to telling her that yet. But, He will give me the desires of my heart, right?

One great thing about this verse is that you really can't take it out of context. It really means what it says. But we must realize one thing. Even though I personally think that without a doubt Beverly would be the perfect match for me, it may not be in God's eyes. When it says desires of your heart, I say 7th heaven girl. Except God looks deep into my heart. I realize that even though I'm infatuated with the girl, God knows that what I really want is someone to love me and care for me and will always be there. Someone who is a strong Christian and will lift me up and follow me when the road gets rough.

The world looks at this verse differently. It views other things as desires. Music says, "Listen to me and I will give you the desires of your heart." TV says, watch me and I will give you the desires of your heart. But, we must realize that this verse tells us the only way that we can receive the desires of our heart and that's to delight ourselves in the Lord.

In other words, my desire may be Lucy from the show, but God knows what I really want and need. It may not come in the form of Beverly Mitchell, but it will be the desire of my heart. Believe it or not God will meet our needs and one day whoever I do marry, I'm sure will surpass all my expectations. Because no matter how many times I try to deny it, our Father really does know what He's doing up there. May peace be with you.

His Masterpiece

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do." (Ephesians 2:10) NIV

Each one of us is God's masterpiece. We were carefully
planned out before God's brush ever hit the canvas. He
designed us to fit in where He wanted us to be. What
would have happened if Moses was born today? You don't
have to answer that. It is just an example. God has
placed us in the right time at the right place. It may
not seem like it but He has.

A few weeks ago God put it on my heart to learn how He
sees me. This is key in learning the fear of the
Lord. So I decided to find out where in the Bible it
tells me who I am in Christ.

Psalm 139:14 tells us that "...I am fearfully and
wonderfully made, marvelous are His works...." (NKJV)

We were also created in God's image.

God loved us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus
to die for us. Jesus died the most agonizing death
ever. He was crucified on the cross for our sins. He
took all our sins upon Himself. What a loving God we
serve. He was nailed to a tree for what we did. If
that doesn't tell you how God sees you than I don't
know what does. How could such a perfect God love such
an imperfect me?
