Armads the Doom Bringer

4+1 = 5 FAIL

Again Devadas' hand slipped as he grabbed onto a bird instead of a branch. He really would have to watch out for what he was using as hand holds. Simple as it seemed, Devadas still had a while to climb before he made it to the top. As long as his stamina didn't give out he would be fine. But with over a hundred feet or so to go, it was beginning to look like this was an unachievable goal. Nonetheless Devadas pushed forward as transparent beads of sweat dropped to the ground below him. At least it isn't blood for once... With any luck I’ll be done this training within a few more minutes. At least the other ninja seem to be leaving me alone.

NAT 20 AUTO PASS

After a few minutes passed Devadas had managed to get about another ten feet up without any trouble. He may have been getting tired, but his stamina had never been good when it came to long periods of activity. Nonetheless Devadas vowed to change that aspect of him even if it killed him in the end. Everything can kill you. Just live and worship as if Armageddon was tomorrow. No point in waiting for things to happen. As Devadas he began chanting in step with his breathing in order to pace himself. If he could keep himself from becoming winded he would have a better chance of staying conscious once he ran out of stamina.

9+1 = 10 PASS

Being about half way up a tree was pretty exhilarating when Devadas stopped to think about it. Considering he was using his body as a dead weight, he was going pretty strong. At least he wasn't having any problems finding hand holds as he went farther and farther up. Despite not using his chakra he seemed to be able to climb pretty well. Not like I ever tried doing it in my free time. I might as well try jumping off the top when I get there. What better way to show off my dedication than to show that I have no fear of dying? Devadas increased the speed of his hymns as he climbed towards his god. Not that he could actually get closer, but being able to break through the canopy and basking in the rays of the sun was good enough in a pinch.

Devadas may have discovered something he was naturally good at as he continued climbing. It appeared that it was far too easy for him to just climb using only his hands. Devadas let his left hand fall to his side as he began to climb using only his right hand. Sure it was slow and inefficient, but he had to at least try it. He could always use his other hand again if he fell down or something. Crazy as it sounded it wasn't like he needed to worry anyway. Devadas had a purpose in life, however shaky a premise that purpose was built on. Even if he briefly thought about just free-falling towards the ground at this point, he continued on slowly as his fingers pulled him ever so slowly towards his goal.

14+1 = 15 PASS

After ten or so minutes Devadas had to switch to his left hand only. It was just too hard to pull himself up the remainder of the distance with one hand alone. As he let his left hand take up the work, his right hand fell down limp. This had to be a great way to increase one's physical capabilities. Of course it was also a good way to get yourself injured or killed, being seventy-five meters off the ground and all. Perhaps I overdid this a little bit. It isn't like I have anything to prove to anyone but myself, and even then I don't matter all that much. If I ever become useless I’ll have to find another way to spread his message, if that's even possible.

As the minute ticked by the sun began to shine more and more through the canopy. The warmth from the rays made Devadas sweat more and more as the heat increased. Reluctantly he switched back to using both hands, since he didn't want to exhaust himself any more than he had to. Even if it is a good work out, I should be pacing myself. No need to spend all my energy getting up here just to die trying to get back down. How comical that would be in the grand scope of things? Devadas continued his chanting at a slower pace so he wouldn't over exert himself and fall one hundred feet to his death at the hands of the earth itself.

7+1 = 8 FAIL

For a split second the world around Devadas spun and his grip tightened on the tree to prevent himself from falling all the way down. He was beginning to feel the effects of exhaustion, even if he refused to admit it to himself. It wasn't like he enjoyed feeling like he was about die, but pushing through physical weakness could only make you stronger in the long run. I can still do this; I'm too close to fail now. Giving up wouldn't be worth it anyway. As long as I can push forward I’ll be fine. As the bright rays of sun hit his eyes, Devadas began shifting his gaze to the tree in front of him to prevent blinding himself as he approached the top.

As Devadas broke through the canopy he was awestruck by the beauty of what he saw. It was like gazing upon a whole other world above the one on the ground. He allowed himself to grin a bit as he looked at how little he had left to go. At most he had five or six feet of climbable trunk left to climb. Any higher and the tree wouldn't be able to support his weight. Most people would probably stop climbing around now, but most people didn't tattoo their bodies and carry skulls around their necks. Maybe that was why everyone looked at him funny. He didn't need their snickers and backstabbing talk; Devadas knew he had the approval of the only one being that mattered anyway.

10+1 = 11 PASS

As he reached the top he took in the feeling of warmth that spread through him as the sun hit him unopposed. Devadas would have to make sure that he sacrificed so his god knew how appreciative he was of everything he had done for him. Reluctantly he climbed down using his entire body and departed the dojo, since he had nothing more to do there at the moment. Surely there had to be somewhere else to train himself. Maybe he could work on finding a temple or something where he could pray freely. There seemed to be a severe lack of religious servitude in Oto, or at least Devadas couldn't find many people who were touched by the divine.

"Well, duh that's the way I was planning on doing it. You just didn't make it very clear." he felt like this was going wrong and that they weren't getting along like they were supposed to. "Okay, okay! Let's go." he turned toward Kimiko now. "Yo, Kimiko you wouldn't mind if we tied up. Just in case you know. I don't want to do something stupid. And I wouldn't feel good if you got hurt either. Better safe than sorry?" he held up the rope as he rose his shoulders questioningly. It wasn't like the restless fist fighter to worry about precautions but he was having trouble with the mission so far and wanted to make sure nothing else happened.

Kimiko nodded with a encouraging grin. "Sure thing... and..." she pointed over her shoulder at Maboroshi "Don't worry about him. He's really cranky and selfish, but he's not as bad as he seems right at first."

Xenon's brow twitched a little "I most certainly am!" he called across the rushing ford. Honestly, impossible girl.

Kimiko waved her hand dismissively she stood close to Raine "Okay, I'm not really good at tying ropes and stuff... so... I guess I'll just leave that you." she looked at him with a gleam in her eye "And don't worry! There's no way that I'll let you fall okay."

At this point Xenon was looking off in another direction. 'This entire exercise... he let his eye lids drop slightly, showing suspicion. It's entire premise seems to be forcing us to cooperate in order to succeed...which means earlier when he asked us about our specialties... he already knew the answers...' he looked around with a mild interest. 'I wonder...is he trying to teach us team work...or test our teamwork...perhaps both...' he recalled the annoyed expression on their sensei's face. 'He seems rather irritable...but he seems more aware than he was letting on...in fact...on that logic..." Xenon cast his gaze about yet again. 'He's probably watching us right now...' he didn't bother actively searching. Ninja had other ways of watching areas they were familiar with, he didn't even have to be present... still...something to think about.

Raine smiled, laughing at their bickering. "Yeah, it's nothing big now. Just a normal knot should do. It doesn't have to be too strong." Raine simply made two loops at either end of his rope, wrapping them around so the more you pulled the tighter they got. Pulling one over his head, the small boy took a breath, grabbing onto the rope hovering over the river and plunging his legs into the water. A turret of force and icy water hit him up to his waist, he moved forward though. Forcing himself through the massive weight. Raine help tight to the rope looking over to kimiko. "It's not so hard! And you don't have to worry about catching me now!"

Kimiko nodded, but she was looking at the water... almost a little...stale smiled. She didn't seem to hear Raine's words, she was still smiling certainly, but she wasn't entirely genuine, there was a strange look in her face as she gazed at the water.

Xenon seemed a little bewildered at first when he remembered "That's right Momoe-san... you don't like water do you..."

Kimiko seemed to snap out of it and countered "I can swim fine!"

Xenon didn't seemed swayed, his smirk shimmering through his smile "I never said you didn't...but I have a rather long Memory, Momoe-san."

Kimiko turned a little red. It was true... she didn't like water... she didn't like it all. Even as she and Raine past over it she felt out of her element. She didn't mind pools... but she didn't like untamed water... she always felt like their was something waiting for her beneath the surface... thus was the second of weaknesses. Ghosts... and natural bodies of water... still she couldn't be afraid, she held tight to the rope as she and Raine continued their crossing...

(I guess I'll roll next then... then you go? If my follow up post counts as part of your roll and post I mean...)

Kimiko held fast to the rope as the current rushed about her legs. Steadily but surely they were cross the rambling waters. She just decided she wouldn't think about it. She'd just focus on the task at hand. Getting across... there was no reason at all to think of what might be lying in wait down there... just like...just like...

"Momoe-san." Kimiko looked at him and he tilted his head with a rather taunting air. "If you like I suppose I can rescue you? Hm? A quick Shunshin from where you are now wouldn't be so hard? Perhaps it would be best hm?"

Kimiko suddenly seemed to completely erase her fears. "No way! I'm not afraid Maboroshi and don't you forget it! I don't need saving! She seemed suddenly ready to cross a thousand rivers. "Let's keep going Raine!"

Xenon shook his head. 'Ahh, you're predictability never ceases to amuse me... and your occasional unpredictability does so even more...' he looked away again, his thoughts wandering toward the flags... they should be around here somewhere...

"Yeah, come on we can do this! And I haven't fallen yet, that's a great sign!" He tried to be audible over the roar of the river, making a joke to maybe ease Kimiko of her obvious discomfort. The rope rolled in his hands their weight pulling it back and forth. He felt the other rope tight around his waist, his muscles hardening a bit with the stress. They were now in the middle of the river, the water rising to his stomach. It was a horrifying experience if nothing else. "K half way there." he meant it to help Kimiko but ended up only saying this to himself.
