I'm conscious enough to post, but there's nothing for either of my characters to do here, and I'm waiting for posts almost everywhere else. Actually, what I need to do is post in another guild...

I suppose the lull gives me more time to recover. What bites is that my family always gets sick in the exact same way: Bro gets sick first from "being macho" and not wearing jackets (I know CA winters are relatively mild, but really!) and/or I get sick first from not sleeping enough, and then Mom gets sick, and then Dad. So predictable, yet we can't break it XD

Hehe. My brother is here from CA right now with his wife and he continues to try to culture shock her with TN stuff, but since his wife is actually from Vietnam and doesn't understand much US culture in general she's basically like "All of America is silly to me~! Teehee! eue" There is almost nothing that surprises her and we're always more excited about her homemade Vietnamese food so we don't cooperate with him about trying to force her to eat traditional southern cuisine. He keeps trying to make me cook fish and grits with fried green tomatoes and other stuff like that. XD

Hm... Maybe you should try to get a job in other areas than graphic design? I know my only legit edge/appeal is I know both history and Chemistry so even if they don't need straight up history people I can still be useful because I'm familiar with cataloging data or how to handle preservation/restoration chemicals. That sort of stuff which is useful no matter what.

I don't know much about graphic art, but if you can get a job which will benefit from you knowing how it works and will help build up your credibility that might be good. Then eventually ease into the profession.

yeah, that's kinda what I'm trying to do but no dice. =w=;; The skills I can use from my degree is just making graphics, basic art designing rules/tricks, and traditional photography with knowing how to cut, mat, and frame. Outside of it I just know how to do some basic apparel, and fine arts (like pottery, crafts, painting with acrylics and watercolors)

Chris keeps suggesting retail stores that does printing like Staples and Office Depot. I've already applied to Micheal's craft store and Hobby Lobby.... twice (months from each other of course)

I dunno... I'm not sure what sort of jobs are out there for graphic art and design, but Staples and Office Depot sound like they'd have limited room for advancement. I think if you got into designing websites you could make a lot of money and maybe even operate outside of your house.

Your bro at Northridge, right? I wonder if she grew up in Vietnam or lived here a while? My parents left in the aftermath of the war, and they went to HS/U here, so they're pretty used to US peculiarities. My bro is soo American(ized), you might guess he dislikes being Asian. XD

What are grits? .__.?

Homemade Viet food is the best, isn't it? I'm so glad my mom stays home at least long enough to cook. Does your bro's wife know how to cook bun thang?

tsk tsk, Cali and Florida are already in hot water. If they leave, and the adults find out they're gone, there's a good chance they'll get expelled.

Hot water, indeed... No pun intended. I don't know about FLA, but CA will probably remember that and choose not to go, especially since WA and RC may not want to tag along.

Go ahead! If WA takes offense to CA's games with RC, you could add that too. xd

pretty much if not working for a company it's signs shops or places that does stationary/printing. I have no actual work experience but lots of volunteer stuff... just not in the past 2 years >.>;; True Staples and Office Depot wont be adding to my degree but it's a start in the job experience and a pay check for the time being.
*heart sinks at "designing websites"* ..... *frozen* think I just heard something break... yeah... *feels like a disgrace to the graphic design world*

Designing websites is my weakness because we weren't really taught all that well to begin with so I'm really not confident plus it's been years since I last did computer programing... And due to all the crazy projects, I just barely made a passing grade for Flash class because our last project was making our personal website and I wasn't able to complete it in time... Now if I owned the programs at home that would be great for me to practice however those programs are freaking expensive. crying

Yeah, that one. I think she has been here in the states maybe since she was an older teen/adult but she and her family have stayed pretty tightly clustered in an ethnic cave of Vietnamese people to the point even some of the kids born here speak broken English... She's Americanized enough to get along where she lives but she wasn't educated in an American school and there are lots of things she doesn't get. Usually if you talk politics she'll talk about China or Vietnam instead of more local stuff because she doesn't always understand the root causes/history of some controversies.

Lol Grits are a Southern staple food that's kind of hard to explain unless you've had it... I personally only like grits with fish or shrimp but a lot of people put in jam/honey or just cheese then eat it like that. You can do a lot of different things with grits.

I'll have to ask her if I can figure out how to pronounce it... My eldest brother drives me insane about that sort of stuff because he's like, "YOU CAN SPEAK JAPANESE WHY NOT VIETNAMESE?" and I'm always like "I dunno. Maybe for the same reason you can speak English but not French. c_C"

My family likes eating cheese grits with pieces of sausage and we usually eat it for breakfast. ((I'm the odd ball that doesn't like grits... it's because the texture is very griddy and reminds me of the texture of oatmeal)) Chris will only eat it after throwing a lot of bacon bits.

Lol, my mom too. She blames many wrongs in America on China. (debtdebtdebt jobstealjobstealjobsteal)

Bún thang isn't too hard to pronounce, but it might not translate well into phonetics... It's kinda like "boOn Tang". (hard T, rising oO pitch) You'll probably get away with saying Boone, like Daniel Boone. Vietnamese is probably one of the most complicated Romanized languages to learn, I think. No good teachers (except in San Jose) and so many accents, you can draw a face with them all. WITHOUT repeating.Get the inflection wrong, and you get the word wrong--but I bet Japanese does the same. Here's a recipe if you or his wife wants to try.

randomprincess~^_^~
Hmm, I should try that sometime. My family hardly ever eats Southern/Eastern food because we eat so much Vietnamese stuff. Rice with everything XD Thanks, you two!

*pats* It's okay... I get a lot of people asking me what does a graphic designer even do a lot... and to be honest it can be anything from products, to stationary, to advertisements, to websites. Anything that has like a company/personal logo or brand name.... and trust me, you see it all the time... of course with that in mind, you'd think it be easy finding a place to work at =w=;;
