"Well the creepy thing at the stadium beat the snot out of Kaz, and Maxi and the big dude with the swords... Sorry to bring this up again dear." for once she did look sincere as she nodded to Maximos and returned her attention to Sun. "So if three of the big boys working together didn't have a chance...why are we sending all the little kids out when we still don't have a clue how to keep them alive?" sweatdrop
"I mean, do we have a clue as to how to beat these things?" Perhaps she missed it while she was trying to kill Hono, but Rae still didn't get why they were heading for this town when they all still appeared to be missing an important element.... like a weapon of some sort to keep them all from winding up dead ><
((I really am sorry if I did miss it...I am loosing track of things that I know ICly and OOCly crying ))

"They tend to respond to attack, it just takes a lot of stamina to wear them down. And...well...there aren't a lot like Alpha, and believe me, he'll be slightly distracted."
Sunstrike's smile was genuine as he leaned down to speak to her. "Not all of us are so kiddy anymore. Maybe it's time some were allowed to grow up and be big boys and girls of their own, right?"
He held his arms out, pointing to himself and Max. "Sides! You've got us to go up against the heavy hitters, right? The big guys only come out if they're certain of winning, or if there's nothin left for them to lose."
He placed a warm hand on top of her head, hoping his own hope was infectious.
"We'll make sure it'll be the second reason he comes out this next time."

Quinn heard a beep from the comm device, then heard the helicopter overhead. Smiling to himself, he walked out without a word and saw them approximately seventy feet away in a clearing, dropping the hummer. As the chinook turned around, he saluted the pilot, who then returned it and flew off. Quinn picked up the comm again and raised the pilot.
"Hey John, care to stick around for a few minutes?"
"Not really, mate."
"Would you do it for a scooby snack?"
There was silence for a few minutes.
"You know what I like, Quinn. I'll land approximately a mile from here. Call if you need me."
"Roger."
The man felt bulky. Taking a minute, he released the pauldrons on his shoulders, as well as his left bracer. He left the breast plate on for now, tossing the equipment to the side as he approached his bike. He also took the Schwarzenegger and attached it to the bike. Lifting up the comm device, he spoke into it.
"Alpha tree niner."
On the front and back of the bike, the sides closed in underneath of the bike to form wheels. Taking off the falchion at his side, he slid it into a slot on the side of the bike, hilt sticking out. Sighing, Quinn walked back inside, then took a seat.
"We're ready to go whenever you guys make the call. We just need to hop in and go. The Chinook is primed up should we need it."

Why did he have to be optimistic about an almost certain death situation? xp Why couldn't he have saved that optimism for the next time they were at the mall and there was a surprise shoe sale, or he could have been optimistic about there being a salad bar at an all you can eat meat lovers buffet table? sweatdrop
"You are buying the drinks if this turns out badly and we all end up in the big bar in hell!" blaugh Raven had to shake her head slightly under the weight of Sun's hand, hope was infectious, but Rae was used to losing every fight she was stupid enough to commit to, so it was hard to see the bright side of this gamble they were taking, even if she really wanted to belive his forsight on the matter.
"Oh, um and Vahn did something to his eyes... when we parted he was blind as a bat, and I couldn't do anything to help...." now would be a good time for some of that optimism...since she was more than a little worried about someone else coming down with injuries that she couldn't fix...

Sunstrike could field the strategic questions. Reen. The like, Max didnt have that intel, but the godling did. Max did however know a thing or two about killing, and had quite a bit of confidence in his ability to do such.
"Soooo... that begs the obvious question. We can kill these things, right?"
He let Sunstrike answer and then followed up.
Yes, we can.
A smirk slipped on his face.
Everything dies. We see to that.
And then bit his apple briskly. The entire sentence leaving the opinion that the "we" he was referencing was perhaps not the group at hand. But, Maximos wasnt dropping any clues.
He stood for the most part quiet, until ventured her question, and he looked at her with a bright smile.
Sun's right. Besides, there are circumstances in our fight with Alpha that dont exist now.
An adjustment of his glasses.
First off being the element of surprise. We did not know what we were truly dealing with. Alpha seems to have the ability to ignite magic into a powerful explosion, and was able to defeat us so quickly by igniting a sword saturated with millenia worth of magic....in our faces.
There was a grimace of sorts. Max remembered the blast, the wounds were gone but there was still a sort of Phantom tingle to where they once were. And a memory of a great deal of pain, all at once.
I doubt he has many more of those lying around.
Max said, passing the grimace off for a smirk. He turned to Quin. And offered a stout nod. It was all waiting now. He found points of curiosity at Hono's conversation, but though it rude to interupt. At Damion's book, but thought it best to give the man some peace. And at Lucind, who he decided to address first. And then took a few steps form the table, stopping at Stephen to pat him on the shoulder and say.
Good to see you here Mr. Lasanti.
Before making his way over to Lucind. He approached softly, and took a seat beside her saying, equally softly, his eyes away from her for the moment.
When I was asleep, you called.
And then slowly his eyes returned.
What did you say?

It was too bad she couldn't have a peek at the helicopter from her place on the windowsill. Still, Lucind kept gazing out until she heard Maximos walking over.
"I didn't get to say anything. In fact, I was forwarded to the mail box." She turned her head to faintly grin at him. "You can tell him he has a sense of humour I can almost share.
But what I wanted to say is uhm..." Sucking on her bottom lip, Lucind looked down at the floor before raising her head again.
Can I be weak one last time before we go out to maybe never come back?
She couldn't bring herself to say it aloud, but her eyes probably gave her away. The next second, a she produced a calming smile, adding: "Small, dark rooms easily manage to bring up rather moody thoughts.
There is something else, though."
At this point, the woman shifted so that she was fully facing Maximos, both hands resting on the sill's edge, left and right of her thighs.
"What was it like, fighting this shade? This...Alpha. He gave you all a hard time, I know, but...what I mean is..." She frowned, carefully picking her words. "What did it feel like?" The Siren wasn't using any vocal technique to keep secret what she was saying, but she nevertheless lowered her voice. In the same way, a certain form of barely hidden intensity went with her questions.
"He talked with the three of you, didn't he? What was it like? On what level do those shades communicate?
And...did you look at him? I watched those we met in the forest through the lhor aven. It was..."
Lucind's eyes wandered around while she was trying to find a word fitting what she had felt.
Scary? Weird? Intriguing?
She couldn't say.

" Well, all things aside gentlemen and Ladies, I for one can't go out and fight with a tired body, I'd be even more worthless to you than I am now." Damion stated as he stood up in a rush, as if some thought occured to him, a smile wide on his face. " So if anyone objects, I'm going to hop on that copter and kindly pass out, or something like that. I'm not sure what inhuman power keeps you folks running, but I am not blessed with the same ability."
That was quite a speech for the earth elemental! He had hardly paused for breath during the entire thing, and a quick inhale brought his air back in a rush. His smile returned instantly afterwards before he began to plod towards the door, intending to follow the noise of a 'copter as he had before. Hopefully this one was holding still.

HonoRaven " Just a touch of earth that might actually be the reawakening of an old ability that I thought I lost when I gained fire, or I could have gotten it from Rae..." Hono tipped her head slightly to the side like she was looking behind Rei, her eyes unfocusing as she turned her sight inwards. " But I have noted that the others all work the best when I am at full power...and I just don't get there if I am skimming off the humans like Rae does, I refuse to risk killing them just to top up my power when I can survive as I am now!" Reiyvian watched Hono'o from the corner of her eye as she wrote down what the woman told her. "Did you feed off of Raven or vice versa?" She set the quill down for a moment and looked up, and watched as the other woman looked within herself. "Since you acquired or reacquired this 'touch' of earth, have you felt the need to feed more often?" The elf was putting together an understanding of the woman's hunger, because without that understanding she had no way of knowing what to offer her to satiate her appetite. She'd formed several potential plans for her, now she had to see what would suit her best, if they'd work at all or of there needed to be tweaking done. Only the answers Hono'o gave her could help her, help her. " Oh, um and Vahn did something to his eyes... when we parted he was blind as a bat, and I couldn't do anything to help...." Rei's ears twitched slightly but she didn't say anything. Only a slight firmness of her lips betrayed her attention. She'd received such a report, but this confirmed it, and coming from another healer it was cause for some concern. Shin was with the Scion currently... She would see him later. She had others in her care to check on first... 'Besides...' she thought to herself. '...It might do him some good. Everyone needs to look inside themselves from time to time, and if ever there was a time---'Her amethyst eyes were still fixed on Hono'o as she reminded herself to keep focus on what was in front of her.

Reiyvian "Did you feed off of Raven or vice versa?" She set the quill down for a moment and looked up, and watched as the other woman looked within herself. " Well you see, something funny happened... Rae asked me to help her heal her captain after the HoH elimination round... he lost an eye, and alone neither of us have the ability to regenerate such a difficult body part. Eyes are such a bother..." That comment was more for Rae than anything else, knowing how bad her double still felt about not being able to really help Kas... " At any rate we figured on combining our efforts, doubling our strength to get the job done, and what we got was quite unexpected..." Now Hono did lean forwards against the table, her voice dropping to the point that even the elf might have trouble hearing her. " The power didn't really combine like we thought it would, and it defiantly didn't double... there was like an echo effect, our powers bouncing off each other gaining a metaphysical kind of momentum, even feeding off each other so that it was much more than just doubled...If I was to think in mathematical terms I would say that the power was squared, increasing by a factor of four times instead of just two..." Hono leaned back with a little shrug as her voice went back to its normal pitch. " Neither of us know the how or the why, but when it was done there was a new connection between us, what I know she knows, what she remembers I can recollect as well...right now I would have to say that we are two different people only because we choose to be, so our powers overlap when we are close unless we concentrate on keeping them apart. It is a very difficult thing to see things differently when we know that we really are the same person, it is strange to know that the exact same thought running through my mind is running through hers at the same time!" sweatdrop creepy, creepy creepy was more accurate than strange, but Hono was trying to be polite... xp Reiyvian "Since you acquired or reacquired this 'touch' of earth, have you felt the need to feed more often?" The elf was putting together an understanding of the woman's hunger, because without that understanding she had no way of knowing what to offer her to satiate her appetite. She'd formed several potential plans for her, now she had to see what would suit her best, if they'd work at all or of there needed to be tweaking done. Only the answers Hono'o gave her could help her, help her. Her amethyst eyes were still fixed on Hono'o as she reminded herself to keep focus on what was in front of her. " What I use I have to replace... that is the simplest of natural laws governing hunger, even this sort of hunger." Rave shrugged again, but there was a tightness to her shoulders that had not been there before...

"I didn't get to say anything. In fact, I was forwarded to the mail box." She turned her head to faintly grin at him. "You can tell him he has a sense of humour I can almost share."
I'm sorry, I think he throws away all of my letters.
He said honestly apologetically in return. Max still didnt get voicemail. But he listened. He watched her hesitation. There was something swirling behind those eyes, something other than blue in the calm shore that usually was her soul. It felt like rain, doubts or questions pinging on the surface and leaving streaks as they road down.
Sure, Maximos had sight, but sight was not necessarily understanding.
"But what I wanted to say is uhm..."
It looked like something was fighting to slip free, but Lucind didnt want him to see. His left hand rose, a finger under her chin to lift her head gently so she could see the care and concern in his mismatched eyes.
And then she smiled. A smile would normally have made Max do the same. But this smile seemed to deflate him.
"Small, dark rooms easily manage to bring up rather moody thoughts."
It seemed...empty, in a way he recognized all too well. He wondered at what point she learned that trick, and for a moment let his attention be pulled away.
"So if anyone objects, I'm going to hop on that copter and kindly pass out, or something like that. "
Maximos turned his head, lifting up his hand and said.
Damion! Mr. Hedley!
Before Damion could leave the Tavern.
Its experience.
He said with a smirk. It was true on a wider perspective, the hours he spent KO'd and Raven's energy and medical healing were responsible for his current wellness but otherwise.
Some of us have done this for years, for our lives even. Your young. You'll get used to it. In the meantime...
He gestured toward the stairs.
There are rooms up that hall, with comfortable beds and I would presume possibly even showers. Beds. Like back on the island?
A smirk.
It might be a great deal more comfortable than waiting hours in a chopper.
Before her voice called him back.
"There is something else, though."
His eyes looked down at her hands, the window, and then back at her. Unable, maybe unwilling to face a fake smile of that sort.
Hmm?
"What was it like, fighting this shade? This...Alpha. He gave you all a hard time, I know, but...what I mean is..." She frowned, carefully picking her words. "What did it feel like?"
Maximos cocked an eyebrow. Thats really all he could think to do, what did she mean by all that?
"He talked with the three of you, didn't he? What was it like? On what level do those shades communicate? And...did you look at him? I watched those we met in the forest through the lhor aven. It was..."
Maximos was stunned. It wasnt what she was saying. It was how she was saying it. Lucind questioned about the Shadelord in the same way a little child would question another about a trip to an amusement park. It was like the forces mounting to destroy the world were a most interesting topic of conversation. Not monsters. Not a threat. Not a danger. Not the causers of countless of ended lives no....just a very interesting curiosity.
Max could say with all confidence and truth, that he did not like the sound of that. And the answer he gave was the quickest and easiest way to sum up the everything the experience with Alpha left him feeling.
Empty.
He said, directly, with all the heaviness it deserved.
It like staring into the face of Nothingness. And doing all you can to keep it from dragging your body and soul and mind into it.
An equally heavy statement.
Alpha is the purest creature I have ever met. His goals, his intentions, his desires are all framed toward a singular purpose...and all by choice. Not design. Not fanaticism.
He closed his eyes and shook his and then said.
Why so curious?

"I want to...understand, I guess." The eagerness was wearing off as quickly as it had come - just like the absentminded state she'd shown while talking to Anuksu - to expose her normal thoughtful self.
"And to collect information to use them.
So I thought, if Alpha maybe revealed a bit more, unintentionally, about the shades' 'construction', what they react to, it might've been helpful.
The book doesn't do much against them. Means, I should probably spare my throat until I face someone who's really evil in the oldfashioned way - still have to get my eshaton back from Ra'kar.
The only thing making me worry is that we don't seem to know what they need to revive The Forgotten One. We're going to search for whatever is needed to stop them - but what if they're faster? Well...if they really want to bring an end to everything, literally, it wouldn't matter then anymore, anyhow."
Until that point it seemed Lucind was partly talking to herself. Then, however, she firmly held Max's look, as if searching for an answer, a truth in his eyes.
After a moment, the Siren went on, now completely being back to the tiredness and worry that had been there before she had put on the smile.
"I just...don't want to bring more suffering...this time.
I want to stop all this needless killing and devastation...all this pain.
I am willing to give what is needed. To give everything."
It was a genuine statement. Yet, her shoulders slumped down and her navy blue hair hid half her face while her eyes pierced his.
"But what if it isn't enough?
What if we're ripping ourselves apart, just to see they go on harvesting soul after soul to turn them into a new battery?
We...
Max, we're not missing anything crucial here, are we?"

Beds sounded better, and thus a redirection would take place, Damion spinning on his feet to head towards where he had seen a dwarf earlier. Behind the counter in other words. And over he would go, no grace, just kind of rolling over it in the most lazy fashion possible until he landed in a three point stance with his book.
" No objectors? Well fine." Ignore the dwarf, in laymans terms, and if the dimunitive creature objected to his presence, Damion would do just that, searching for keys to rooms and such until finally giving up and just deciding to ransack a room, hopping back over the bar to head up towards the rooms and away.

The islander went upstairs to rest.
Tall Dark and TwoEyes and the dark-haired woman were chatting amongst themselves.
This little blond girl and buxom red-and-black haired woman were discussing something about energy.
Quickly, people were discussing this and that, most of which had no real bearing on the young mage.
Turning to the tall, firered-haired man, Cecil would ask him an important question, aside from everyone else, so the hope that was starting to build within them wouldn't be tarnished.
"Umm... sir? I was wondering..." he started, pausing and averting his gaze before continuing. "What are our chances of success? Not that I'm backing out, just... I don't know... I'm getting the impression this is anything but a cake walk."

Maximos listened.
It was perhaps his greatest talent beyond combat or swordsmanship. His eyes stood focused on hers, blinking perhaps twice. His hand moved to adjust his glasses once.
He did not flinch. He did not falter. He did not back away. And true to Maximos, the smile on his face never once diminished in the slightest. It was a simple thing, more of a grin really. It showed no teeth yet gently, softly, warmly even, presented the incredible yet definite feeling that it could not be beaten.
Lucind wanted to understand. Understanding brings clerity, it removes the need for sentiments like hope, and faith, and trust, and boiled a situation down to facts. Maximos didnt live that way. He didnt understand. He just knew what they had to, and would do.
Lucind also made good points. All of them, what if the enemy was more prepared? What if they were so many more steps ahead than the heroes were? What if there was no weakness, or no hope? What if they won? What if we were all doomed?! What if every mounting second the darkness was creeping close and closer!? Good god! In Nocturne's name, WHAT IF THE NEXT DAWN WASNT COMING!?!?
She finished. And Maximos' smile cracked into a chuckle, which rolled into a light hearted laugh. He shook his head, and then lifted up one finger. Using it to slide his glasses up the bridge of his nose, but leaving it there for a moment.
You...
He said, his eyes looking past his finger at Lucind. His finger moving across the distance to poke her square in the forehead.
...worry entirely too much.
Another poke.
What has it earned you?
Another poke, followed by a smirk.
We do our best, and what happens happens, my dear.
He said as if it was the easiest thing in the world. And then finished off with.
The rest is up to Fate, I suppose aaaand that's not my department.
He lift his hand, as a bottle of some Rum, of some sort flew into it. A shadow had assisted in tossing it from behind the bar. But smoothly he plopped it down on the window sil, right near Lucind's hands and said.
Try and relax.
Then leaned in to give her a peck kiss on the forehead where his finger had been, and began to walk away. Yes its true he was a strategist, and part of that meant knowing what to plot and plan on. And what not too. There were so many unanswered questions here that mulling over them all was only going to lead to fear, and doubt, and other useless emotions. Maximos chose to accept the now, the current, and worry about what else must be dealt with, when and if it was to be dealt with.
And at the moment, he needed to deal with fetching another apple. And so if not called upon, he did.
