Hey, um, Ty? You may have not realized this..but...
Many saints were martyred...
So...I don't know what point you were trying to make, as it's not at all that surprising that St. Valentine was murdered....

Saint Patrick day may be a good holiday but the guy that made the holiday got it in the first place because he killed people, I wasn't talking about saint Valentine at all, all he did was try marrying people and ya I already knew he was killed >_> I thought you knew about that saint...

You mean the guy who instituted Saint Patrick's Day enforced it by murdering people? Okay then, I didn't know that one, but it's not entirely surprising.

But Ty, the day is not a festival of the man that instituted the holiday, it's a festival of Saint Patrick.
While the murders are a shame, they are separate from the meaning of the holiday. That's why we continue to celebrate; it doesn't lessen the meaning of the holiday.

He is responcible for the deaths of many people, I consider him a murderer. Its not right to give him a holiday because of those peoples religions. Still I'm not insulting the holiday, just the man behind it. I rather injoy the holiday. Most holidays have rather bloody beginings though.

Um, Ty? Did you do your research? Here, let me quote Wikipedia about him- "Patrick wrote that he daily expected to be violently killed or enslaved again. His Letter to the Soldiers of Coroticus protested British slave trading and the slaughter of a group of Irish Christians by Coroticus's raiding Christian Welshmen, and is the first surely identified literature of the British or Celtic Catholic Church[2]. Patrick gathered many followers, including Saint Benignus, who would become his successor. His chief concerns were the raising up of native clergy, and abolishing Paganism, idolatry, and Sun-worship. He made no distinction of classes in his preaching and was himself ready for imprisonment or death. He was the first writer to condemn all forms of slavery." Wikipedia's Article on Saint PatrickAll right- so the man who expected to possibly be violently killed or executed is responsible for the deaths of many people. The same man who PROTESTED slave trading and THE SLAUGHTER of Irish Christians. The same man who was the first writer to condemn all forms of slavery. Yeah, now that's DEFINATELY the profile of a murderer.

I read the Wikipedia article as well and I think that that whole mass slaughter would have been mentioned at some point...which it wasn't. So...I'm thinking either Wikipedia is wrong, or you've got your story mixed up, Ty...

Heh... ^^;;
I'm not trying to be mean and evil and such but... It's kinda hard to just sit and not try to correct mistakes when they're out in the open and can still be corrected, you know?
If it comes off as condescending or arrogant, it isn't meant as such. I just like to be thorough. That's all. Not trying to pick a fight or cause trouble.

Sug, if he wants to begin a debate, he should be prepared for people to oppose him. You can't yell at us for backing our side.

You mean to say he was sainted for killing Pagans?
Saint Patrick's Day may be widely celebrated, but Saint Patrick isn't special in having a feast day. Pretty much every saint you can think of has a feast day. There are the famous & celebrated ones like the ones for him, Valentine, & Nicholas. But there are also obscure feast days like the ones for Francis of Assisi, Joan of Arc, Anna, Elizabeth, Cecilia, Anthony, Jude, Christopher, John the Baptist, Joseph, Theresa, Vincent, Narcissus, Quintus, Simon, Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Anastatia, Lazarus, Caius, Firminus, & the other Saint Patricks, Valentines, & Nicholases that no one seems to notice because of the famous ones. That's barely even the tip of the iceburg.
