"Now that's no fun! The best teacher is mayhem! GWAHAHAHHAHAHAA!!!" The voice cackled, and for an instant Gael would almost swear he'd heard the rumble of thunder. "USE PSYCHO-CUT!" The voice screamed, the sound akin to nails upon a chalkboard; yet it didn't seem to bother the Spinda any. Swaying slightly in a zombie shuffle, the undead Pokemon would raise his left arm, an eerie pink-purple glow appearing upon the tip of it's paw. Staggering slightly, the Normal-Type would spin, and as the motion brought him back around to the front a deadly blade of psychic energy would be released. "No matter the carnage you can bring, it's always the fastest that can rend flesh first! GWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" The voice cackled, even as the Psycho-Cut made a beeline for the little Litwick!

[Alright as you likely have already realized this guild uses a turn based combat system. When one Pokemon is attacking the other must defend. Which Pokemon attacks first is decided by the SPD stat. Whomever has the highest SPD moves first.]

[To better explain. Your Litwick's SPD is 5. Spinda's SPD is 8. 5<8 so the Spinda goes first. This means the turn order will follow as follows.]

Spinda Attacks - Litwick Defends
Litwick Attacks - Spinda Defends
Spinda Attacks - Litwick Defends

[And so on until someone faints.]

[Now secondly during each post we will both roll 1D20. This is called an Accuracy Roll and is used to decide whether or not an attack hits or misses. Simply put if the person attacking rolls higher the attack hits. If the person defending rolls higher the attack will miss/be blocked. In the event of a miss/block they take no damage. If they're hit damage calculation will follow. I'll explain damage calculation in the following post.]

With Litwick still cradled against Gael's chest, the boy watched as the Spinda came at him and his small Pokemon with growing claws. Releasing the Litwick and doing a single-handed back-hand spring to get himself clear of the situation, he watched as the Spinda came in quick on the little one. "Dodge it and use Ember!" With their opponent being a Normal type, the other two moves his little Litwick knew would be useless. Hopefully being dead would also increase the flammability of the thing in front of him. Litwick's small flame blazed for a moment as it tried to use its small stature in order to avoid being hit before launching a flurry of small flames from the flaming wick on its head.

Luke watched the Grimer as it went towards him. Koemi watched, eyes wide, and the Grimer was almost upon Luke before she manged to sputter, "Bite!" Luke quickly responded. He growled and rushed at the Pokemon, ready to strike with small yet extremely sharp teeth.

( 14 - 3 = 11 dmg ( this is the differences in the dice rolls)

( 8 - 7 = 1dmg ( differences in my pokemon's attack and your defense)

overall dmg = 12dmg)

The first attack would hit with the force of a wave ...it would threaten to flatten and to kill all in one swift movement ...as the Grimer pushed the pokemon's body down beneath her.. The sharp fangs that might have hurt if she hadn't already chosen to allow her form to take on a less material form ...would be flood with her slime as she made it a point to cover mouth, nose, and eyes in her slime ...suffocating even as she would curl off of the poor pokemon with a smile on her face.

She would shift herself into a defensive stance, afterall, she couldn't see what her opponent had up it's sleeve until she had gotten herself off of him.

Zack Okami

Zack entered into the battle room with his Chimchar Flare riding on his shoulder. The teen had a calm and collected sense about him. He knew the dangers that he was about to face. This 'trial by fire', to him, was the only real way to prove himself as a capable trainer. The world had been collapsing around him, and while he wasn't all too thrilled about how things were run, he knew that he wouldn't be able to accomplish anything if he didn't grow stronger and more skilled. Things wouldn't ever get better on their own, not without someone to try and become a catalyst of change.

Zack crossed his arms, going over in his head how he could work Flare to the best of her ability, given what few moves she knew. The two moves she knew he could work well in tandem, but he would need to see what his opponent would be before he could decide whether or not he would need to work on evasion, defense and counter-attack or if an all-out assault to quickly end the fight would work best.

Flare took a look at the surrounding area. There were signs of battle everywhere. Simply by the atmosphere, she could tell that battle was what lay ahead of them. The place was new to her, but she held utmost confidence in her trainer. He had been with her since the day she hatched. She knew he would steer her down the path to victory so long as she did as she was told and kept her eyes on her opponent.

[We've been over this elsewhere but I will begin by clearly stating that under no circumstance do you EVER use one of your Pokemon's moves during your defense. A defense post is just that, a defense, you either dodge, block, or distract your opponent in hopes of negating their attack. You never use a move to achieve this end. Your attack, in this case Ember, belongs in another post entirely during your own attack turn.]

[There is a method by which you can attack during your defense, however it is both dangerous, and incredibly ill advised for a student not yet used to the very basics of the combat system as miss-use of it is more then likely to get your Pokemon killed.]

[Now moving along I shall now show you the finer points of damage calculation.]

[In this particular case the move of your opponent missed. Whenever two people roll precisely the same for accuracy, such as our 20 vs 20, the roll will go in favour of the defender.]

[When an attack damage calculation will follow using the this simple formula.]

(Attack Accuracy - Defense Accuracy) + (Attackers ATK - Defenders DEF) = Damage

[To make this a MILLION times clearer, lets say the Spinda rolled a 12 instead of a 20, and you rolled an 8. The damage calculation would go like this.]

(12 - 8 ) + (8 - 7) = 5 DMG

[Of course in the event of a 'special' move like Ember, you would use SP-ATK and SP-DEF instead.]

[Next I will explain criticals and fumbles. As you well know the highest point on a d20 is 20, and the lowest point is 1. When and if you roll either of these your accuracy will be subjected to a slight modifier for the remainder of the battle.]

[Simply put when you roll a 20 you gain a 'Critical' which will place +1 to your Accuracy Rolls for the appropriate phase for the remainder of the turn. Allow me to clarify. I rolled a 20 for my attack, this means I'll gain +1 to my Accuracy Roll for the remainder of the battle, but only during my Attack Turns. You rolled a 20 for your Defense, this means you'll gain +1 but only for your Defense Turns.]

[Opposingly if you roll a 1 you earn a Fumble. This will place -1 to your Accuracy for the appropriate turns.]

[Any questions so far?]

The moment the Litwick released those flames she'd see them turn to ice, a spectral hand appearing from the darkness to slap both her and Gael roughly in the back of their heads. "WROOOOOONG" The voice rang clear in the darkness, seeming to reverberate directly in their eardrums "I know you are a Strike hopeful, however even those battle maniacs no when to defend!" The voice seemed harsher this time, more like an irritated murderer then a beast playing with it's prey.

"Since you are so eager...let us see how you do...." The voice regained it's malicious purr "Spinda, defend!"

Reacting to the order in an instant the Spinda would raise it's decaying arms, surprisingly the only thing that seemed to retain the entirety of themselves, and slid into a very basic defensive stance.

Covering his ears as the loud voice rang clearly in his head, Gael bit down a curse from escaping his lips and waited until he was able to hear again before dropping his hands. The last he caught was the voice telling the deadish Spinda to defend itself. Apparently NOW it wanted him to attack. Not thinking about it for a moment, he pointed towards the defending Spinda and called out to his little flame. "Again! Ember, Litwick!" The little candle wiggled a little and set out a few spit fire flames towards the decaying Pokemon before her.

"Not baaaad....GWAHAHAAHA! Now this is getting interesting!" The voice cackled on the sidelines...though which direction those were would be difficult to discern. "Spinda use Psycho-Cut!" The voice barked sharply, his voice continuing to echo from all around the pair. Clearly he was attempting to make himself both mysterious and creepy as he could manage.

With the command given the Spinda would react quickly, staggering forward as he sliced his arm through the air and released another deadly blade of pink-purple energy at his foe!

[Time to move on. Next on the list is the Death Penalty. Yes. DEATH.]

[Now as you no doubt are aware once a Pokemon's HP drops to 0 they faint. Here at Akumu however things going a step beyond that. When hit with an overkill...that is to say an amount of damage which exceeds their remaining HP....a Pokemon's HP will drop below 0 into the negatives.]

[If at any time a Pokemon's HP should drop below -7, that is to say if it drops to -8 or lower, that Pokemon will meet an untimely and brutal demise. Once a Pokemon dies, that's it, they're dead, and no number of Revives or trips to the Pokemon Center will bring them back. There are a few items which can prevent a Pokemon from dying a single time, however these items are few and far between.]

[The only exception to this rule is Ghost-Type Pokemon. No matter how low a Ghost-Type Pokemon's HP drops they will not die...simply because they are already dead. However if a Ghost-Type's HP does fall below -8 they are still very much down for the count.]

The Ember hit on target, but didn't do a whole lot of damage. It was a little disheartening, but not enough to distract the new trainer as much as it could have. For his first battle, the young boy seemed pretty aware of what was needed of him. As soon as the voice began to talk, Gael knew that an impending attack was on its way. "Litwick, prep up." Litwick nodded and tried to shrink itself up to look smaller before trying to hop out of the way of the attack. She was slow, but with her small stature it there was still a decent chance she could dodge the attack coming at her.

With a little luck in the absence of any real skill, the shimmering purple blade would fly passed the Litwick without causing any harm to the ghost's waxy form. Twice now the spectre had managed to evade the strikes of her attack, this time more resoundingly then the last....though how long could she keep it up? A ghost most of all had to understand one couldn't defy fate!

"Spinda Dizzy Dodge!" The voice barked, prompting the undead Spinda to begin shuffling and staggering about in something oddly resembling some sort of strange dance. "Yes! Dance for me my puppet! DANCE! GWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" The voice once more cackled, the sound ringing louder then ever before.

[Now for the final part of your current lesson. Items.]

[During combat you will of course be able to use a number of items, however there are a number of rules which go along with this. First and foremost is the types of items you can use. TM's, certain Key Items, and Held Items other then things like berries cannot be used in the middle of battle. If you intend to use or equip such an item to your Pokemon it must be before or at the very very beginning of a battle. Keep in mind that the 'beginning of a battle' rule becomes non-applicable in the case of an Ambush, in which case your opponent won't give you the chance to use/equip such items.]

[Items that can be used during combat are the standard, Pokeballs, Healing Items, and Battle Items such as Dire Hit. Keep in mind however that these items can ONLY be used on your own Attack Turn. Using an item such as a Potion or PokeBall will use up your Attack Turn. To clarify this means you CAN NOT use a Potion, and then use a move like Ember. If you use a Potion that uses up your Attack and moves straight to your Defense.]

[Now then. At times you will want to capture a Pokemon. This will require that you possess an empty PokeBall. Please not that PokeBalls are single use, and if you miss, the ball is destroyed. To use a PokeBall it must be your Attack Turn. When throwing the ball roll 1D20 just as you would for an attack or defense. This is called a Capture Roll. To successfully capture a Pokemon your Capture Roll must be equal or higher then the Pokemon's Capture Rate.]

[Example. You're fighting this Spinda. At the begnning of the battle this Spinda's Capture Rate would be 16+. This means that in order to capture it you would need to roll a 16 or higher.]

[As you battle and weaken a Pokemon their capture rate will drop, making them easier to capture. Presently the Spinda's capture rate if it were wild, would be 13+. This means that you would need to roll 13 or higher to successfully capture it.]

[Any questions?]

Gael's hand formed into a fist as he saw his Litwick dodge the attack that had been coming in quick. As the Spinda began to dance around, Gael's brows knit together. Going in with a simple attack and hoping for the best wouldn't work here. He'd need to make sure to give himself the best possible chance of his attack hitting. "Wait until there's a slight lul and attack with Ember. If you can't hit it, let's at least make it have a reason to dance around the floor with some hot feet." Litwick nodded and released another flurry of fire spits towards the dancing Spinda from the flame atop its head.

Try as she might however the Litwick would miss in every possible way. Swaying and stumbling about the battlefield the Spinda would manage to wobble out of the way of each and every one of her attacks. Undead or not, it seemed that when the Spinda went right back to it's nature it was quite the opponent to face! "EXCELLENT! Now PSYCHO-CUT! GWAAHAHAHAHA!!!" The voice cackled, now seeming to do it merely for his own amusement. The Spinda would prove no less obedient for it however, promptly staggering forward and slashing one arm through the air. A blade would form, streaking across the space between them in hopes of striking down the Litwick with a decisive blow!

Gael's fists balled tight until his knuckles turned white. His Litwick was missing every time it tried to land a hit on the dancing little freak of nature. Just as soon as he heard the voice beginning to speak and call an attack, he called out to his own Pokemon, "Litwick, dodge it!" The Litwick awknowledged the command and swiftly tried to move out of the way of the Spinda's attack and stay in a good position for an attack of her own when she got the chance.

As luck would have it the Litwick's attempt would take her far and clear of the Spinda's attack. Staggering a few steps more after his swing the undead Normal-Type would hit the floor, simply lying there rather then standing up. Not exactly much of a defense.
