The Fierce Deity

PostPosted: Tue Jul 18, 2006 11:38 pm

@Nilly: The thing is that you're using information from a different source than Deity (a science book ninja ). Even Googling it, some places refer to mach speed as 720mph, and some place it closer to 760mph... /=;

...it's not our method, it's that you think it's faster than Deity thinks it is. o o;;;

Isn't Mach speed relative to something? Yeah, it is. If it wasn't, they'd just call the speed what it was, rather than give it a specific name.

I know it's a bit more complicated than just a number at least, I'm a dull math student.

720 must be from a different altitude as I started from the standard 340 m/s and worked through the equations.

Mach 1 refers to the speed of sound which is 340 meters per second at sea level.

They use the systems of Machs because it is easier then rambling off a long list of numbers.

Mach is something like the speed of sound going through a fluid object, I suppose in this case air. I think altitude affects pressure/density. Yeah, I really do need to start taking serious Physics and Chemistry classes if I plan to be an engineer.

What type of enginerring? I once considered, and still do kind of, aerospace engineering.

Mm...Deity's info was more'n likely referring to different possible circumstances...okee then...well, that helps considerably. domokun

"Mach Speed" is different depending on altitude, heat, and air resistance. (<-pretty sure) Its relative to how fast sound travels. That's why they do the landspeed records in places like death valley (or whatever) that are so far below sea level. Its actually a smaller number to reach.

Mach 1 is when you first break the sound barrier, and is accompanied by a sonic boom. Which is a... formidable force of nature.

Oh... and what I came here to post...

XD YAY! GO DRESLIN!!!

Man's got a head on his shoulders, three cheers!

Who the hell is Dreslin?

Probably mechanical, but aerospace would be a dream. It could possibly be a secondary, or something I come back later to learn.

I'm not sure, though. It's only my second year of college, and I'm working on the basics. I could make a random shot for game design, because I do love it, or go to some form of writing. And then there's always that weird, out-there ambition, for me it being voice acting.

Looking at the numbers now, I dunno what to place Curse's speed limit at. Reaching Mach 1 in the tourney seems a bit much, but I'd definitely leave it in there for him at his highest level. I'll have to make conversions to feet per second. Then again, I have said his speed escapes human eyesight, but I don't think a human traveling at Mach 1 or less could do that. Perhaps only for a few seconds in an enclosed space like the arena. I dunno. I'll stick to not labeling the number and hope my opponent doesn't get too technical on me.

Ahh, I'm doing a Political Science and History. So I'm not in the egineering program, but I'm going to take as much physics as I can.

It doesn't matter Jak.

Deity, that's one of the reasons why when I want to perform a calculation I look at what the generally excepted standard is. There are equations to help determine the speed of sound under different conditions, but the standard is usually under the ideal.

Not getting techniqual is the way to go in most cases. Other wise you'll end up against someone who know's their s**t and tears you apart for it.

And this is why I'm an English student... How did we all get so off-topic?

Pray you don't fight Kharn or Gunter then, both of them could follow you with ease.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 18, 2006 11:53 pm

Can you really get out of topic in OOC? Oh, and I said it was Curse's limit for this tourney, at least for normal match-ups; self-imposed. Consider it something like weights.

Jak, the only character I'd ever be concern about fighting of your's would be Kharn. And I'm sure Iucunditas could fight him to beyond a stand still due to the difference in power.

Now that Daemon Prince of Khorne may be another topic.
